Reviews for The Cott Inn

Review 1:The rooms were very comfort and of the highest quality. The staff were very helpful and try to ensure you are completely satisfied . The food is to the highes quality.

Review 2:A really lovely country pub. Location is ideal for a short break. Friendly and efficient staff, comfortable rooms, great food and a log fire - perfect for a winter weekend away.

Review 3:No negatives at all

Review 4:If only all other hotel staff were as considerate, friendly and helpful as those at the Cot. Lovely rooms, dinner and what a breakfast!

Review 5:Mattress had a broken spring but this was rectified as soon as they knew about it.

Review 6:Staff very pleasant and rooms, whilst small, are perfectly equipped.

Review 7:Everything and everybody was and were delightful - will return. Young lady serving food was wonderful with our little dog as were all the staff from the beginning to the end. One of the best!!!

Review 8:Everything was fantastic, couldn't have had better service. From the minute we arrived to when we left we were very well looked after. Food was delicious and highly recommended. Room was very clean and had everything we could ask for. Added bonus was the Morris men coming into the bar in the evening to play music. Wish we could have stayed longer but we will be back.

Review 9:Would have liked a different bath/shower arrangement, but due to space understand this isn't possible.

Review 10:friendly staff & lovely food. Very comfy, large bed.

Review 11:The only thing was that the wifi was not operating unless you went into the corridor to log on

Review 12:The very very helpful staff.they could not have been more pleasant.nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent

Review 13:The only negative is that rooms are above the pub, so on the very busy Saturday night I stayed it was 11:30 pm before things became quiet and I could hope for a bit of rest.

Review 14:Staff were fantastic and went out of their way to be helpful. Loved the history and the charm of this facility. My room was immaculately clean, in spite of the rather tired carpet and furnishings.

Review 15:A minor point only: less than fresh fruit at breakfast.

Review 16:A classic English inn full of character but with beautiful modern bedrooms. The staff working at the busy bar/restaurant gave us a very warm welcome and their full attention for check-in. The delicious supper, real ales and ciders available.

Review 17:Unfortunately we only stayed here for one night to break our journey up to Falmouth but we were made very welcome on arrival, shown to our room and was offered help with luggage. We were offered a table to dine that evening even though there was a wedding reception taking place, the food was delicious and so was the breakfast after a very cosy nights sleep.Highly recommended.

Review 18:Anton and his staff were more than welcoming, going the extra mile to help. I would highly recommend staying at the Cobb Inn I will definitely be visiting here again.

Review 19:No phone reception and intermittent wifi. Our room was over the bar but then it was the last room available.

Review 20:Great to be in a pub with good atmosphere and plenty of customers.

Review 21:Tea & coffee sachets in the room were not checked each day which meant that we ran out by day three and had to ask twice for replacements. There was a potato chip under our table in the breakfast diner on Day 1 and it was still there on Day 3

Review 22:Interesting historic ambiance. Pleasant atmosphere in the bar arrears and the food was good. Staff friendly.

Review 23:Lack of proper reception or method of greeting new arrivals. No information book in room. Wi-Fi code scribbled in visitor book. Access to rooms is through busy pub. Steep stairs to access rooms, definitely not suitable for anyone elderly with limited mobility or disabled. Some rooms overlook the smokers in smokers corner. There are no reserved spaces in car park for residents. Polyester duvet and pillows. Extremely long time for hot water to reach room

Review 24:Recommended? Yes provided you take into account that this is a a pub that serves food, and offers accommodation. Its not a B&B or guest house. Comfortable bed.

Review 25:The whole experience was superb. My 60th Birthday.Staff were very friendly. The room was excellent. The food was very good.We even slept in,but,we're woken by the staff so we could not miss breakfast which again, was lovely.Cannot fault this at all. Will definitely visit again.Walked into Totnes from hotel, had a great day.gorgeous place.

Review 26:Being elderly and disabled we had trouble with the stairs. If we had known how steep they were we would not have come - and we would have missed a very nice experience.

Review 27:Excellent food and helpful staff

Review 28:The room was on the small side.

Review 29:Staff were very helpful & friendly. The thatched pub has a real rustic feel & is full of charm. All very clean & no charge for our dog.

Review 30:We could hear the music from the pub when we were in bed. The room was compact, people smoking outside could see your every move,no hairdryer or info on the accommodation.

Review 31:The pub had a great atmosphere in the evening, although it looked fairly grim on arrival when empty. The food was delicious. The room was nicely styled.

Review 32:We couldn't use the wifi because we had no service. Although it wasn't a real problem it would have been nice to have known in advance about the lack of head room as my partner is 6'4'' The sausages at breakfast were not traditional English sausages and I wasn't keen on them.

Review 33:The bed was huge and very comfortable. The building itself is quaint and pretty which was lovely. The garden was pretty and well kept. The staff were all helpful and very cheerful.

Review 34:A| beautiful old Inn, all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our bedroom was very comfortable especially the large bed. Delicious breakfasts and a good menu for evening dining. We enjoyed our four night stay.

Review 35:Nothing. I had a minor problem with an evening meal and it was dealt with quickly and efficiently without quibble, so 10 out of 10!

Review 36:Good size comfortable bedroom, great staff and an excellent breakfast and optional evening meals. The Cott is in an excellent location for the South Devon Coast and for anyone who wants to explore Dartmore. To cap it all there was live music on Sunday evening and a lovely 2 mile walk to Totnes and the Steam Railway!

Review 37:Nice to escape the "sameness" of chain accomodations - however, if you are not prepared to give up some space for this unique experience then it may not be for you.

Review 38:Can't expect Wi-Fi to be too good with 2ft thick walls - but it was advertised so we did expect it to work - it hardly did. If you're getting a cab in to town use the station cars - we had one arranged for us and it was twice the price.

Review 39:Very cosy and welcoming. Lovely building and homely pub with great food!

Review 40:Having lost our way, we phoned The Cott Inn - they couldn't have been more friendly or helpful! Our room was delightful. Staff were lovely as was the breakfast!,

Review 41:We couldn't stay for another 5 days!

Review 42:Everything about the Cott Inn is aimed at quality in a relaxed perfect country Inn atmosphere. The staff are lovely, the food is great and the Inn is beautiful.

Review 43:Dogs in the bar and noisy floorboards which cannot be helped as the place is so old. The rooms were quite noisy and you could hear conversations.

Review 44:The staff very pleasant and the facilities excellent beautiful old place

Review 45:Considering what an old building we were staying in how many good facilities, warmth and comfort we had without loosing character. I am hoping we come again.

Review 46:Breakfast a little lacking in taste mistakes in bill a bit worrying!

Review 47:Nice welcome. Good food. Child and dog friendly - relaxed atmosphere. Clean and comfortable room.

Review 48:Didn't like the pillows very hard and the greasy fry in the morning. The bacon had the taste of steak of it , obviously cooked on the same hot plate that cooked our steak the night before.Too much oil on the breakfast plate. Had to try and wipe it off with paper napkins.

Review 49:Beautiful pub and with loads of character and lovely guest rooms and friendly staff.

Review 50:Spiral staircase to first floor, but it was only difficult because of our age and to be expected in such a lovely old building.

Review 51:Owner and staff very friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious. We'd stay again.

Review 52:Nothing!

Review 53:We loved everything about the Cott Inn, the food was excellent, the Staff were not only friendly and helpful but made you feel really special - would definitely stay there again!

Review 54:Everything, the food, breakfast, the staff were very welcoming and helpful, the rooms were very comfortable and they obviously liked dogs which is a plus.

Review 55:From the moment we entered The Cott Inn we were treated as though we had arrived in a 5* hotel. The rooms had a boutique feel whilst maintaining the rich history and cottage ambience.

Review 56:Room was lovely, very comfy bed. Pub was very characterful with colourful locals, and although we didn't eat there in the evening, the food look good and the breakfast was wonderful.

Review 57:the following is only a minor point! It would have been nice to have had a wardrobe rather than hanging our clothes behind the door. However this did not really detract from our overnight stay and not only would we stay again but would recommend the Cott Inn to family and friends.

Review 58:Right from our arrival someone came out of the inn and helped us in with our luggage. They then reserved a table for us for an evening meal - food was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was 'olde worlde' which we enjoyed and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 59:Not sure where to start. You melted into the bed so comfy. Great food and drinks. Its amazing how the hotel keeps the traditional look externally and also around the bar area but manages to create brilliant modern fit out rooms. Highly recommend staying here. Would love to return with the other half sometime in the future. The WiFi was also good.

Review 60:A very warm welcome. Staff friendly, polite and attentive. Great food. Excellent pub. Comfy bed. Sunny room. Amazing historic building. Well looked after.

Review 61:Didn't like having to fight through the queue at the bar to check in.

Review 62:Very helpful friendly staff. Comfortable bed and room had everything including creaking floor to add to the character and feel. Very tastefully decorated and furnished and kept in keeping with this 14th century inn. Good choices for breakfast offering alternatives to the 'full English' which was great. Good portions and very fresh.

Review 63:Bar and restaurant were very busy for Valentine's Day so we didn't have the quiet drink downstairs we'd envisaged. Scrambled eggs at breakfast were plentiful but a bit watery.

Review 64:Cosy room and kind hosts

Review 65:The staff were extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome, I would not hesitate recommending the The Cott Inn, for comfort, friendliness and good food.

Review 66:There was nothing we didn't like about our stay.

Review 67:Great food! Cosy and warm, stylish room. Very helpful friendly staff. We would certainly like to return.

Review 68:The brekky tea was a bit sour.... But might be the local water.

Review 69:The staff were amazingly helpful, the historical feel of the place superb and the bed was the best I have ever stayed in

Review 70:A very warm welcome by staff, the attention to detail, the effort made to resolve any problem with a smile and a solution to hand. I cannot fault a single member of staff on friendliness. Food is excellent !

Review 71:Room was a bit noisy, from kitchen staff below. But quietened down in plenty of time for sleep.

Review 72:Dinner was EXCELLENT (pate, fish pie, toffee pudding). Room was very comfortable.

Review 73:The room was very hot and the noise from the bar was a bit of a problem. Then early next morning there was noise made by cleaners. But since rooms are above the bar it can't be helped.

Review 74:The atmosphere, staff and bar food

Review 75:My wife would have liked a small wardrobe in the room but this is a very minor point and didn't detract from our enjoyment at staying here.

Review 76:Made to feel very welcome throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Great breakfasts and dinners. Well kept beers and wines. Beautiful looking pub.

Review 77:Couldn't get the wifi to work in the dining room for breakfast - no signal and little in the way of gluten free options for breakfast.

Review 78:Fabulous history and beautiful location in Totnes. Everyone very friendly, room clean, modern and comfortable with everything a single female traveller would need. Restaurant menu lots of variety and food good.

Review 79:Not applicable - it exceeded our expectations.

Review 80:The inn was very busy when we arrived, but Mark and his friendly staff welcomed us and showed us to our room straight away. It was charming - warm and comfortable and with all the character of a 13th century inn plus modern comforts. The breakfast was really good with lots of choice and generous portions.A very enjoyable stay - we would love to go again!

Review 81:There was nothing that we didn't like

Review 82:The friendliness of all the staff, the excellent food, both breakfast and evening meal. The excellent facilities and the lovely room. We will certainly consider returning again.

Review 83:Staff are very friendly and helpful. Anton the duty manager was lovely. They insisted on bringing cup of tea to our room on arrival even though tea making facility provided. Great period property and location. Great food and real local atmosphere.

Review 84:(1) noise and smoke from hotel patrons under hotel room window; (2) disinterest by hotel staff; (3) inadequate servicing of room for the tariff paid; (4) generally overpriced (£110 p/n) for the location & quality of facility.

Review 85:The picture on the internet, which sadly misrepresents the location which is on a busy road.

Review 86:The down side - poor wifi! This needs to be sorted out we were using BT to connect but just could not get the bandwidth. Rooms are a bit small 1 night fine a week a bit pushed. Had to repair the cistern to flush the loo, mould around the bath/shower seal. Our bathroom had the loft access hatch that should have been painted! Shower a bit powerful and soaked the bathroom when put to full power. So a bit over priced but would stay again. After all it is a pub! and a good one at that.

Review 87:Good staff, excellent quality of food at resonable prices. Breakfast was very good quality with plenty to choose from, the full english was well cooked and served very tastfully. Beers on tap were in good condition and wines reasonably priced with a good selection. Good nights sleep and felt relaxed next morning.

Review 88:Couldn't possibly give a comment as it was all excellent

Review 89:Just brilliant - will definitely return either for a meal or to stay when we are next down. Anton the duty manager and all the staff were superb, the rooms are lovely and the food was just wonderful. Plus a very generous breakfast and nothing was too much trouble

Review 90:While many establishments combine the twin functions of village pub and country hotel quite effortlessly, for all its charm I never felt that I was staying in anything other than a rather expensive B & B with character. The Cott's core business is pub and restaurant which is done supremely well. You are bound to love the beer and the cuisine (and the staff should be singled out for special praise,) but if you are planning to spend the night don't expect any frills.

Review 91:The Cott Inn has a lot going for it.The building goes back seven centuries, the staff are welcoming and efficient, and the food is excellent.(I particularly liked the white onion and parsley soup, and the haunch of venison with vegetables perfectly cooked and imaginatively presented.)

Review 92:Plumbing dripped - but this could easily be remedied. TV too small to see from bed

Review 93:Food fantastic, staff friendly, great atmosphere and old fashioned comfort.

Review 94:Nothing to dislike.

Review 95:Very comfortable room, friendly staff, excellent food, creme brulee' (not sure if this is the correct spelling) was to die for. Plenty to choose from on the menu. The breakfast was very good.

Review 96:Nothing

Review 97:We were given a very warm and friendly welcome by Mark who very kindly lugged my over large case to our light and airy room. An excellent supper, superb service and to cap it all off a personal send off with a lift to the station. Faultless!

Review 98:Nothing. Mind your head if you are tall - it is obviously an old building so has low ceilings and beams.

Review 99:Everything was good. Dinner and breakfast the following day was well cooked. Nice to see a pub so busy, but imagine this was due to Tuesday fish and chip offer. Friendly staff. Small room and en suite but nicely decorated and clean.

Review 100:Noise from bar into the bedroom Broken door on shower Shower took at least 15 minutes on our first morning to get the hot water running through Cobwebs on ceiling Only net curtain on bathroom window, not enough privacy

Review 101:Staff were very helpful and friendly Breakfast and dinner was excellent, much more than traditional pub grub Picturesque thatched inn

Review 102:Wonderful blend of a really old English pub with tastefully blended modern facilities. Stunning exterior with a wonderful display of annuals in full bloom. Good breakfast.

Review 103:Nothing.

Review 104:Fantastic atmosphere and an incredibly well prepared full English breakfast, simple but cooked to perfection.

Review 105:Staff were very friendly, made me feel very welcome. Rooms nicely decorated and furnished. Food was great

Review 106:Fabulous ancient pub with beautifully appointed modern bedrooms

Review 107:lovely room, fabulous food, really friendly staff, a great atmosphere!

Review 108:the staff were very attentive - they have been well trained to think of everything you might want, but do so effortlessly and with good humour.

Review 109:The service was excellent and personable

Review 110:The Cott Inn is a wonderful building, friendly and efficient staff. Rooms are great and the food is brilliant!!

Review 111:The Cott was very convenient for our visit to a relative. The breakfast was excellent, and very relaxing. All staff very pleasant and helpful

Review 112:No Problems

Review 113:Very homely atmosphere and welcoming staff. Bedrooms very clean

Review 114:Friendly staff tranquil location excellent food comfortable room

Review 115:Bar area was not welcoming.

Review 116:Rooms were well appointed. Bathroom clean.

Review 117:Local pub atmosphere...young staff that were very good and went above and beyond to look after us.

Review 118:Room was a little small and seemed expensive.

Review 119:Food was lovely and service very friendly.

Review 120:No complaints

Review 121:Friendly staff..great food
