Reviews for The Old Stocks Inn

Review 1:Friendly, clean, comfortable and excellent food. Centrally located in Stow which is a great base for Cotswold area. Recent refurbishment (Mar 2015) fabulous.

Review 2:Food in the restaurant for dinner was a bit mixed. Inventive menu but very small portions for some things (venison main had a tiny amount of meat) although my wife had a lovely rump steak

Review 3:Lovely rooms - brilliant refurb, all mod cons, comfortable and clean. Loved the design and feel of the hotel. Breakfasts were great, as was selection of beers on tap in the bar. Ideal location in Stow and friendly helpful staff - Charlotte and Richard were very welcoming and positive. Would happily recommend and look forward to staying again

Review 4:Nothing

Review 5:This is a wonderfully renovated inn. It is in a great location - perfect for exploring the cotswolds. The breakfast was amazing. We also had dinner here and the food was close to being the best we've had in Europe (having eaten in some very posh places!!)

Review 6:They do not refill the minibar. You pay the same room rate each night but only get mini bar on first night - very wrong and very misleading. Very expensive

Review 7:Very clean, refurbished to a very high standard with lots of attention to detail. Great Location. Very friendly staff

Review 8:No room service or evening bar food on offer for residents. If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing couples break, note Old Stocks advertise in the small print children of upto 16, + £10 supplement (2 extra beds per room), it spoilt our stay ! children who were crashing the doors, shouting and running up and down stairs in the evening and at 8.00am on a bank holiday, not what we expected from this luxury Inn.

Review 9:Lovely inn, decorated in a very modern style inside. Breakfast was very good quality. Room was quite small, but very nice furnishings with an excellent shower and soft drinks fridge, good hairdryer. Great view across the square.

Review 10:Wifi not great but that's for the area as a whole and not unique to this hotel

Review 11:The staff were so friendly and helpful and our room was beautiful. Recently refurbed and they spent the money in the right places. Shower was amazing, massive bed, big tv and a quirky boutique style. Would definitely come back

Review 12:Would have liked a mirror by the dressing table and a few more hangers in the wardrobe. The room was too warm without our radiator even coming on. Even the coolest setting on the shower was too warm for us.

Review 13:Lovely hotel with beautiful and spacious room, bathroom and comfortable bed, felt very homely. Nice big towels and dressing gowns. Mini bar with local gin was a nice touch. Great to see glass bottled drinking water rather than the dreaded plastic bottles of mineral water. Located right in the heart of the square which was ideal for shopping in the village and close to cafes, tea rooms and restaurants. Good parking in the square and behind the hotel. Friendly bar staff always glad to make whatever drink you fancy. Breakfast cooked to order was so much nicer than a buffet. Also nice fruit, bread, pastries, tea and coffee. We enjoyed dinner although felt that the dinner menu was a bit limited for those that prefer simple food, or for several nights in a row, although I'm sure they would make something different if you asked. Would happily stay again.

Review 14:The only negative that I had from the whole weekend was that it did seem a little noisy in our room at times. When we got into bed on Friday night at about 11 we could still hear music from the restaurant below until about 12 and we got woken up very early both mornings because the people above us were early risers and we could literally hear every movement they made! The shower sounded like it was on top of us. Certainly wouldnt put me off coming back. In a charming old building like this it is not something that can be helped! The weekend of our stay was very cold and rainy so we did opt for some pubs over the Old Stocks that had cosy fires for some of our daytime relaxing and evening drinks.

Review 15:We stayed in room 15 and I absolutely loved the comfortable, stylish and spacious room. The beds were heaven, everything was spotlessly clean and the attention to detail in terms of the styling and home comforts was brilliant. Modern but cosy and in keeping with the old Cotswold feel of the building. I even asked for the make and color name of the paints that had been used throughout so that I can try to copy at home! The staff were friendly and attentive and if we did have any problems I think they would have done everything they could to help. We ate in the restaurant on the Friday night, it had a good atmosphere, the food was tasty and well presented and there was a varied wine list. Breakfast both mornings was also very nice!

Review 16:They never cleared dirty glasses in our room and never replaced toiletries and stuff in the mini-bar. For an expensive hotel, this seemed cheap.

Review 17:It's really beautiful and in a wonderful location. The food was also wonderful.

Review 18:Limited parking

Review 19:Trendy little hotel that features a great Restuarant and with the added bonus of a lovely little coffee shop. Lots of quirky design features.

Review 20:Nothing, I literally can't fault this hotel.

Review 21:We returned to the old stocks inn after or visit a few months ago as we loved it so much. We were 3 friends and stayed in the family room which is beautiful and spacious. Great food, beautiful facilities, friendly staff. I'm sure we'll return for a third time.

Review 22:Perfect, tranquil inn with excellent staff! Every detail is thought of, the rooms are lovely and the staff couldn't do enough for us to make our stay great! Great location to go and explore the Cotswolds

Review 23:Cafe was overpriced. £7 for a tea and coffee and a cookie!

Review 24:Stylish hotel with an excellent bar and restaurant. Great location on the square. Great breakfast!

Review 25:My parents said that the staff were not very helpful when asked for breakfast which wasnt off the menu. Bit disappointing.

Review 26:Great decor and facilities within the bedroom. Staff did offer to bring room service even though they do not offer.

Review 27:The second time we stayed there we were put in the loft room which we told them whenever we returned we would prefer a different room. This room had too many stairs and only had a bath tub.

Review 28:We returned to this Inn on our return trip because we found everything so comfortable in this Inn and the staff so friendly and helpful. Even moved our car to a safer location in the car park.

Review 29:the room (17) was very cramped, not enough light to sit in bed and read, the windows faced the square, no voile to pull across to stop people looking straight in, which they did, so had to close the blinds, there was complimentary drinks in the mini fridge, we only drank the soft drinks and not the alcoholic ones, so was surprised when on the second night the soft drinks were not replenished?, only water put back in, we paid the same for both nights? room 17 photos were not on booking .com , only the photos of the larger rooms, leading you to believe the rooms are spacious , we wouldn't have booked to stay if we had thought the room was going to be so cramped.

Review 30:Beautiful hotel, great food, great staff

Review 31:Couldn't have been happier with our choice. Felt like a modern boutique hotel with excellent staff who were warm and gave fantastic advice on what to do and how best to spend our time.

Review 32:Would have LOVED a bath - shower only.

Review 33:Well designed; friendly professional staff; great location; small but perfectly designed rooms with good selection of services.

Review 34:N/A

Review 35:It has been very well done, quality beds, furniture, fixtures and fittings top class. Couldn't fault it! Friendly helpful staff. Great food.

Review 36:It was a lovely place to stay, the decor was lovely and there were loads of extra touches which really made our stay very enjoyable. The free mini bar, homemade bath salts and a free coffee as we checked out were great and unexpected. It was as if they had thought of everything! We also really liked stow it self as it seemed less touristy than other places in the area.

Review 37:Bedrooms small and no drawers. In addition our room had no fridge and the fresh milk in a small bottle was off when we went to use it on our first morning.

Review 38:The area, the staff

Review 39:Fabulous remake of this 17th Century building. Décor, furnishings very tasteful. Bedroom beautiful. Appreciated complimentary drinks in room. Staff faultless. Breakfast and dinner superb.

Review 40:The bedroom looks very attractive but the bed is too big for the room and no comfortable seats - impossible to sit comfortably to read or watch TV. One evening meal was awful. Continental breakfast without croissants!!!! No tourist information whatsoever

Review 41:Very comfortable bed, superb double shower. Bar area pleasant and comfortable. Bar staff very obliging. One evening meal excellent

Review 42:Bed slightly hard for me but the rest of my party loved it.

Review 43:We had an excellent stay at this newly refurbished hotel. The facilities and decoration of the rooms were excellent and the staff were great. We definitely return.

Review 44:The wifi did not work at all.

Review 45:We came for a weekend and we are already planning our next visit to the old stocks inn. I think it has been recently refurbished as the rooms are beautiful! The staff are very friendly and helpful, the breakfast is amazing (as is dinner at their restaurant!). Everything about this hotel was just stunning. The perfect countryside getaway!

Review 46:This is a fun place to stay. The rooms are delightfully decorated and comfortable. Great breakfasts! I'm bringing my husband next time. He will love it!

Review 47:We found the WiFi signal poor.

Review 48:Such a lovely old fashioned Inn but updated to offer every comfort. The staff were welcoming and attentive, the rom very comfortable and the food just amazing. My flat iron steak was so good I had to have it again the next night.

Review 49:The WIFI - the wifi was terrible, but sometimes it's nice to get away from technology so not entirely a negative!

Review 50:The staff were very friendly and we had a lovely meal in the restaurant. The restaurant is small and very noisy when full but the food was delicious. It's a very pet friendly place. We had a courtyard room which was fantastic. Loved the pizza oven in the courtyard and all the small touches (blankets to snuggle up with in the evenings, complimentary minibar)

Review 51:There is nothing that I did not like.

Review 52:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, modern and comfortable, had everything I needed. The little bottle of milk in the fridge is a great idea.

Review 53:Long wait for hot breakfast on the Sunday morning. When it did arrive it wasn't as ordered, although correct order provided quickly.

Review 54:A good and comfortable hotel in a great location. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 55:The room was very small, the facilities within the room were poorly thought out. The Coffee machine was virtually on the floor, coffee/tea/cups etc were also very low and poorly positioned. A bright emergency light illuminated the room the whole night. £180.00/night, and not a complimentary biscuit in sight, one good point, the shower was excellent. Overall experience of sleeping in this room was very disappointing. Breakfast was hit and miss irrespective of table time, evening food was nothing special, and food was expensive when considering the quality. I travel regularly in this area, and would not consider using this ever again for stopover or dining. The overall opinion of this establishment is over-rated when considering the experience and related costs.

Review 56:Stowe on the Wold.

Review 57:Room overlooked the beer garden so it would have been nice to have been told it was a possibility as we would have packed some ear plugs... Breakfast was served with freezing cold beans as the cook forgot to microwave them... Was a nice breakfast when it cone back warm.

Review 58:Room was lovely and very comfortable, location great.

Review 59:Beautiful location and decor. Staff very friendly. Lovely!!!

Review 60:Room heating was turned off too early in the evening

Review 61:The staff are excellent. Very friendly nothing too much trouble.

Review 62:Bathroom was cold.

Review 63:Staff very friendly and helpfull. Food was fantastic.

Review 64:Size of room for price.

Review 65:Location ideal for town.

Review 66:Everything!

Review 67:Great rooms, lovely shower, comfortable bed. Really nice food. Wonderful customer service.

Review 68:garden rooms are very nice but a bit slippery when wet it needs hand rails by the concrete steps and anti slip strips on the wood steps

Review 69:Friendly staff, great rooms, central location.

Review 70:Food, friendliness, decor, location

Review 71:Lovely garden room. Well appointed and lots of attention to detail. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Review 72:Excellent staff. Nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was good value. Dinner not so good!!!

Review 73:Beautiful setting, access to tourist places, interesting walks, good food, friendly staff

Review 74:Nothing. Cocktails are too tasty

Review 75:Everything! This place is just a great hotel.

Review 76:Room 17 was just too warm , had to sleep with window open all night which in turn kept us awake :-(

Review 77:Food was lovely, served with a smile and a fantastic atmosphere

Review 78:The Inn is beautifully done, decor charming and comfortable, location offers much to do, walks are carefully chosen, welcome was very nice.

Review 79:Friendly,welcoming staff, nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent, would definitely visit again.

Review 80:A great place, like the style of it.

Review 81:Central location. Nearby parking. Quiet room although very small and good food.

Review 82:Lovely inn!

Review 83:Staff were really nice.

Review 84:Approachable and helpful staff as wellas everything described above

Review 85:Rooms a little small especially with an extra bed but very clean and comfy

Review 86:Staff and service were excellent. A great place to stay in the Cotswold

Review 87:Incredibly stylish.

Review 88:Fantastic stay .comfortable room lovely staff and beautiful location

Review 89:Shower not really suited for disabled.

Review 90:Everything

Review 91:Modern, fresh, quirky design. Relaxed ambience. Welcoming.

Review 92:Slightly overpriced for the location and facilities on offer. Breakfast wasn't amazing either.

Review 93:Bed was amazing! Massive and really comfy. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 94:Our room was next door to main toilet area for public use, noise of hand drier etc was a little disturbing into the evening.

Review 95:Location and food. Staff all very friendly and helpful.

Review 96:Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was clean, comfortable and full of character. Food was lovely. Excellent situation within a beautiful area. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 97:Excellent location and very welcoming staff They sent an email prior to our stay and made changes to suit our needs. Would recommend and stay again Evening meal and breakfast lovely

Review 98:The shower was poor and difficult to regulate, either to hot or to cold. The bed was very creeky and the floor of the room above also very noisy when walked on making for an interrupted nights sleep. The first serving of breakfast was luke warm, when I complained it was remedied immediately.

Review 99:The location was ideal and the staff where welcoming. The room was generally clean and a good size.

Review 100:The bed wasn't the comfiest and the breakfast was a bit small, and not the best fry up I've had in the countryside either- where usually You expect really tasty farm fresh prOduce. However it was still nice and we didn't really have any cin

Review 101:Location was great , very central . Our room was cosy, quaint , spotlessly clean

Review 102:Not catering for my father's partial disability. At the time of booking I requested an easily accessible room. He had to endure various steps up and down to reach his room. + poor lighting in bedrooms for reading

Review 103:Food, size & cleanliness of rooms, location. Warm.

Review 104:The room was very hot with no initial explanation on how to control the heating. Poor TV reception.

Review 105:Location for our break. The best Hotel Towels ever. Car Parking for a small town excellent.

Review 106:Place could do with a bit of an update, it's slightly shabby and not in a stylish way. Shower was pants. Room wasn't massively clean

Review 107:Location, parking, and a nice breakfast

Review 108:Unfortunately we stayed in Room No. 5 and I think this might of put us off a bit. There were a lot of stairs when taking our luggage up to the room and you had to make sure that you didn't hit your head when climbing the last set of stairs to our room.

Review 109:The staff were very helpful and very polite.

Review 110:The location in the centre of the town on the market square. Ease of parking, comfortable room, friendly staff and a superb breakfast cooked early as we needed to be at a meeting.

Review 111:Small negatives only. Bedroom furniture not really in keeping with the character of the hotel. Sink in room 4 really needs replacing. Would have been nice if all tables at breakfast were set and therefore giving a choice of where to sit.

Review 112:Location, couldn't be more central. Great standard of food and value for money. Cleanliness. General character of hotel.

Review 113:The garden room we booked was cold, the radiator in bathroom got hot but the heating in the bedroom was cold. We had to put an extra blanket on the bed, we asked a member of staff to mend the heating but they never did!! Not comfortable at all, in hindsight I wish I had booked a room in the main hotel.

Review 114:The hotel was in a good location with parking to the rear of the hotel. Friendly staff, lovely bar lounge with open fire. Great breakfast.

Review 115:There was nothing not to like.

Review 116:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the facilities in our room were very good, especially the lighting which we usually find in hotels to be fairly poor. It made a very nice change also to have a dressing table with a mirror - a rarity these days!

Review 117:Heating was permanently on making room unbearably hot. When I mentioned this to staff I was told they couldn't turn it down. We had to sleep with three big Windows open in mid February. The pub was really noisy till late and because we had to have Windows open it was too loud to sleep. The bed was too short (I'm only 5ft 11) but couldn't lie straight.

Review 118:Room size and location

Review 119:The walls were quite thin, and on our second night we were in a room next to the downstairs ladies bathroom - we could hear the hand-dryer which was VERY LOUD through the wall. Also, the heating (which we were told we could control from a box in our room) seemed to be controlled by the hotel and we didn't really have any say in the matter. Also, some extras (shampoos, biscuits, etc.) in the room wouldn't have gone amiss.

Review 120:The Old Stocks Hotel was in a brilliant location, right in the centre of Stow-on-the-Wold. It was very clean, impressively so. The breakfast was decent as well, and there was a simple but good range of options. All staff were friendly and helpful.
