Reviews for Southbank House
Review 1:We liked all of it, could not fault it in anyway. Made to feel welcome, nothing was to much trouble. Added extras like toiletries, there was fridge with drinks in that you could purchase, and fresh milk if you didnt liike long life milk.
Review 2:The only very slight fault we experienced was that the rooms overlook the carpark and you can see right in, so we felt we had to keep the heavy curtains shut most of the time; it would have been nicer if there was a net curtain for more privacy that still let light in through the huge window.
Review 3:Beautiful building with spotless rooms, excellent breakfast (with vegetarian options), good location not too far from the city centre.
Review 4:A bit out from the Town Centre, about a 20 minute walk. Also, we had a very tiny bathroom.
Review 5:This was a lovely venue with lovely staff, with lots of very nice touches. They went out of their way to provide us and some family (non-guests) with some tea and coffee before a funeral. Definitely very happy to stay there again.
Review 6:Slight smell of drains in en-suite shower room. Chiming clock in hall. Would have preferred not to have to choose breakfast the night before but understand that this is practical. Found the sheer amount of other items being marketed a little offputting ( jewellery, Pandora jewellery, biscuits, preserves, paintings etc). However the owners perhaps feel that they need these extra potential sources of revenue.
Review 7:Attractive house and well presented garden. Large room with comfortable bed. Fresh milk available for hot drinks. On site parking. Homemade jams. Nicely cooked breakfast.
Review 8:I'm afraid the wifi was sooo slow that I could not even load my email programme. This is a shame as I would be keen to return but this is a big problem to me
Review 9:Lovely cottage, very comofrtable
Review 10:The beautiful decor and appearance of the house. The hosts who were very, very welcoming and pleasant. Breakfasts were delicious and attractively served.
Review 11:We had a warm welcome. We loved the personal little touches like the biscuits in a tea cup with ribbons. Breakfast pre order on a scroll! Lovely fresh milk for tea/coffee.Thank you both. We look forward to next time.
Review 12:15 min walking from the centre, but it's a nice walk.
Review 13:Very kind atmhosphere in a cosy place where cleanness and looking after small details are done with care. Good value for money. less than 5min from the train station.
Review 14:Nothing

Review 23:Quality of room furnishings, attention to detail and welcome/ information given by owners. Excellent breakfast, high quality food.
Review 24:Everything! The warmth and hospitality made it perfect. Excellent breakfast choice and what a superb range of jams. Little touches - like a vase of fresh sweet peas and other flowers in my room - made this quite a special hotel. I would certainly stay again.
Review 25:Wardrobe hanging space rather limited.
Review 26:The house and gardens were lovely. Beautifully furnished and spotless. Breakfasts were excellent - plenty of choice and nicely presented. You were made to feel very welcome and relaxed. On-site parking.

Review 28:Beautiful House, Our room had lovely views over Hereford. Bed very comfy, good large tv. Warm (but not gushing) welcome. Breakfast was very high quality indeed and well cooked.
Review 29:Amazingly friendly staff, lovely big rooms with a massive comfy bed. Lovely views in a perfect location with little traffic noise yet still within walking distance of the town. Topped off with a lovely breakfast.
Review 30:A little clinical, lacked warmth and ambiance, little personal connection with hosts or intercourse with guests.Rather ordinary breakfast was ordinary with good fruit but porridge out of a packet and toast overdone.
Review 31:Clean, efficient, all necessities available. Attractively presented. Quite well positioned in a pleasant area. Good parking.
Review 32:Everything is excellent. The rooms were perfect as were the facilities. The breakfast was fresh and locally sourced and cooked to perfection. Robert and Hilary the owners were fantastic would stay there again.
Review 33:Quiet location, but very close to everything. Train station, shops, restaurants. EXCELLENT steaks at Miller & Carter.Try CHARLIES BAR for a roof top view.
Review 34:We didn't look what time checkout was, assumed it was 12 but it was 10.30..the owner got a bit funny over it but it was a genuine mistake on our part as I would never do anything like that on purpose (the breakfast was good though).....
Review 35:The only negative was that we were on the ground floor which was quite noisy in the morning as it was opposite the dining room and kitchen.
Review 36:A beautiful house set within immaculate grounds. The room we stayed in was lovely and the breakfast was second to none!
Review 37:We received a really warm welcome with lots of help. Lovely old building yet with modern facilities. Lots of lovely extra touches made it feel more like a hotel than a Guest House. Knowledgeable and informative hosts. Handy for town but quietly situated. Breakfast the best ever
Review 38:Effortless stay in a lovely, clean, modern B&B, close to the railway station and 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Hereford. Peaceful at night, in a nice residential area. Breakfast was divine, with locally sourced full English ingredients and no judging when you took more than your fair share of complimentary chocolate eclairs. Friendly owner very helpful when you needed him, but luckily not there when we were eating all the sweets. Thank you for a wonderful, effortless stay.
Review 39:very little not to like. our ground floor bedroom had french windows opening onto a small area of garden by the carpark, which was not a problem, but it meant that we were not able to keep these open overnight so on a warm night no ventilation.
Review 40:location. it was easy to find and close enough to the city centre [and cathedral] to walk in about 15 min. friendly helpful proprieters. a good sized room and all very clean. excellent breakfast.
Review 41:Not a thing.
Review 42:The location was perfect (near the rail station and not far from the cathedral.) The room and breakfast were wonderful, and the hosts, very "accommodating".
Review 43:Difficult getting out of drive onto road. View obscured of oncoming traffic.

Review 48:Convenient for city centre but in a quiet road. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 49:Nothing not to like! A second chair would be nice but that's just 'nit picky' as there was ample room to sit in the lounge and garden

Review 56:There was some damage caused to a book in an accident. Before we left the owners had ordered a replacement for us on the internet. This was an example of the treatment we received which was all good as was the food and facilities
Review 57:Finding the place was a bit confusing as I did not know the area. This was solved with a quick phone call to the owner.

Review 61:The en-suite was tiny - couldn't be helped in a property of this period. It was fine for me; but could be a bit of a squeeze for some!
Review 62:Welcoming host; brilliant breakfast with little pots of jam made locally instead of the usual commercial stuff; fresh milk available for tea/coffee.
Review 63:Beautiful B&B, warm, friendly welcome, perfectly appointed, comfortable, delicious, freshly prepared breakfast, convenient location. Definitely would stay again.
Review 64:We liked the sumptuous, country house feel - it was more like a 5* hotel. Our breakfasts (we stayed 2 nights) were delicious. Our room was immaculate and quiet facing the back garden with a view of the cathedral. Hilary was very welcoming and helpful making our stay memorable! We shall return soon and would thoroughly recommend a stay at Southbank House.
Review 65:Hilary is an excellent hostess with nothing too much trouble for her. Her attention to detail is amazing. I will certainly stay here again if I am in the area Michael McLaughlin

Review 73:There was nothing really not to like.
Review 74:The convenient location close to the station and City centre, the comfortable and well-appointed room, the excellent breakfasts using local produce, and the friendly and welcoming hosts.
Review 75:Only change we would make may be larger room next time.
Review 76:Style of the hotel.Great shower and ensuite.Tv good size.Bar ok ,location just right sort walk into town
Review 77:As one of the other guests commented, Southbank is more like a boutique hotel than a B&B. The attention to detail with everything from furnishings to the way the breakfast was served was consistently excellent. The staff were courteous, efficient and super-helpful. Room 4 (double) provides great views towards the city and overlooks the small but lovely garden, which while a work in progress is already very stylish to match the charm of the accommodation. Ten out of ten!
Review 78:NOTHING !
Review 79:We run a 4 Star Gold B&B ourselves, having booked Southbank House for one night only as we needed a place to stay following a trip to a furniture supplier, we were amazed at the EXTREMELLY ABOVE STANDARD CLEANLINESS and WONDERFUL BREAKFAST they are offering. The bed was excellent and the high quality cotton bedding did not go unnoticed either ! Excellent private parking, lovely Victorian building, modern En-suite with good pressure in the shower, what else can i say ? Carry on doing what you're doing, we're very picky people and we loved it. The only thing i would say is raise your prices, you're cheap cheap cheap cheap. Thank you for a great stay and my properly cooked poached eggs !
Review 80:Finding the place - Southbank Road does not appear continuous. Didn't like the burning smell coming in the window before breakfast. Front door security lock a bit tricky.
Review 81:Information about local attractions - including research carried out on opening times of the chained library. Great breakfast. Good to have use of fridge when traveling with cheeses!
Review 82:This is simply the finest b&b I have ever stayed in! Outstanding in every way. Faultless! Superb facilities, gourmet breakfast and fine hosts. How could anyone wish for more?
Review 83:One small complaint - the room we were given had a very confined en-suite, but I believe when we booked it was the last room available
Review 84:The care given to every aspect of our stay.
Review 85:Wonderful location. Nice quiet area. Such welcoming hosts. My room was lovely. Everything you could think of was supplied, Hairdryer, Iron and ironing board, bathroom supplies. Kettle, tea, coffee, cookies. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, a menu to choose from. Definitely will stay here again next time I'm in Hereford. Very good value.
Review 86:Hilary and Robert have done a marvellous job. They not only made me immediately welcome, but as soon as I went through the door I entered a peaceful, comfortable and spotlessly clean guest house. My breakfast was excellent and I was particularly pleased to see that they were using locally-produced products (i can recommend the honey!). I intend to re-visit next year.
Review 87:Stayed in the Tewksbury Room which was lovely and light with double aspect windows. Spotlessly clean with those extra touches. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 88:Absolutely perfect stay, to be really commended! Full English breakfast, tea and coffee making facilities in room, very knowledgeable hosts, ample parking on grounds. What more could you wish for! Would definitely stay there again.
Review 89:Room was a bit small.
Review 90:The facilities - sitting room, conservatory, garden - were lovely. The breakfast was comprehensive and the cooked portion was excellent..
Review 91:Having to decide on breakfast the night before - although I know this is because they want to provide a quality service.
Review 92:Excellent room with one of the biggest beds I had ever seen. The owners were lovely, the space was really comfortable and the breakfast was lovely.
Review 93:The welcoming atmosphere and interest in the guests as people. Nothing was too much trouble. The tidiness and great attention to small details eg precise making of bed; topping up of tea, coffee and biscuits. The cleanliness of the room and the en-suite. The breakfast was well-laid out and full of anything you could possibly need. The cooked breakfast always hot and appetising.
Review 94:having to leave so soon!
Review 95:I was warmly welcomed, the room was lovely and well kept and clean and had everything I could need and lovely touches which spoke of care for the customer. nice lounge and honesty bar was a lovely touch. breakfast was spot on with lovely homemade and local produce to enhance a well cooked meal
Review 96:I just wanted somewhere cheap and cheerful as I was only staying a night for a wedding in Hereford and the stay massively exceeded my expectations. A lovely little guesthouse, friendly and helpful owners and a delicious breakfast. Would recommend!
Review 97:Warm Welcome was appreciated. Our room was warm and comfortable. Hillary thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable. The house is beautiful and the view from our room expansive and appealing. Breakfast was supurb and nothing was any trouble to Hillary.
Review 98:Our room was a little on the smaller side. Maybe if the TV was wall mounted it would have given us a bit of extra space to manoeuvre.
Review 99:Room was beautifully decorated. Just a short walk into town. Breakfast was delicious and such a great range of food and drink. Would definitely recommend and revisit if in the area again. Thank you.
Review 100:there was nothing we didn't like.

Review 102:What's not to like!
Review 103:Easily the best guest house we have ever stayed in, wonderful warm welcome, plenty of relaxed communal areas to enjoy as well as a sumptuously furnished bedroom, and the breakfast was first class. Superb value for money
Review 104:Hilary and Robert were the perfect hosts at Southbank. Situated very close to the fantastic historic city centre and within easy travelling distance to other Olde Worlde towns and villages. Breakfast was brilliant and kept you going until a late lunch. Rooms large very well presented and maintain their Victorian character. Definitely our number 1 choice for a return visit. Thank You Hilary and Robert.
Review 105:Small bathroom.
Review 106:Very nice bedroom with style, very kind personal, good breakfast, only five minutes from central station, ten minutes walk from city centre, very quiet.
Review 107:Couldn't stay longer, but suspect if we had asked we probably could have!
Review 108:Every aspect of our stay was outstanding, but the hospitality and friendliness of our hosts was the stand out feature...nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was close behind in terms of attention to detail and quality.
Review 109:No one to greet us on arrival. I asked for scrambled eggs in stead of a full english, although very tasty was on the small side.
Review 110:The house was lovely with many of the original features still in situ. Bedroom was well designed and the furniture to my taste.
Review 111:Very friendly owners, although a short stay ideal for what we required. Breakfast very good, infact too much to choose from spoilt for choice. Rooms fantastic.
Review 112:Absolutely nothing.
Review 113:Totally exceeded expectations. Owners were so friendly & attentive (but not invasive). Our superior room had open views to cathedral, top quality bed-linen, (HUGE) comfortable bed, everywhere was immaculately clean with many thoughtful touches. Breakfast was excellent (with tasty local produce), skilfully cooked. Table-cloth & napkins were also best white linen, we particularly liked flowers on all tables (2 x dk. yellow roses freshly picked from their garden, to mark our 50th Anniversary were typical of the thoughtfulness) and they insisted on taking trouble of obtaining a particular brand of v. sausages for myself (quorn allergy).
Review 114:Friendly welcoming owners. Attention to detail. Not left wanting for anything. Excellent facilities. Amazing breakfast in beautiful surroundings. Took a hamper home full of delicious local products; gift wrapped at no extra cost.
Review 115:Was able to park at Southbank House. Was able to leave luggage there before our room was ready.Friendly and not rushed at breakfast.A real pleasure staying there
