Reviews for The Crown Hotel
Review 1:The food was good and of fine quality but too a la carte to want to eat in the holtel every day. A mix of more traditional fayre would be more enticing.
Review 2:Convenience to town and links to major roads
Review 3:No bad experiences just if the TV could be up dated as picture was not good quality in the room we had.
Review 4:Staff were excellent very friendly and very welcoming. The food was very good and the eat the season menu was very good value indeed.
Review 5:Found nothing bad
Review 6:The staff were very good and nothing was too much trouble. The Menu was superb and excellent when served. The accommodation was excellent .
Review 7:Could do with some better blinds, very bright in room as light on outside all night.
Review 8:Food good staff very good, everything you could require in room even coffee percolator, bathrobes &slippers.
Review 9:a bit expensive , 1 half of the secondary double glazing missing but it was quiet and not too cold so no problem. Forgot to mention it to hotel.
Review 10:good size bed and room (twins fitted together) Friendly, helpfull staff. Effective, controllable central heating radiator
Review 11:A tad expensive, particularly on the food and wine.
Review 12:I stayed in this hotel/pub over a year ago(after the refurbishment) and have been impressed both times. The food and the bedrooms are excellent.
Review 13:The staff are simply lovely - very friendly and accomodating. It is a very vibrant cheerful place - there are people - old, young and in-between, hanging out at all times. The food is of a very high standard generally. The breakfast is particularly excellent. The decor is very attractive and of course the setting is perfect.
Review 14:Unfortunately the menu was not to our liking, could not find anything on the two menu's suitable, No soup or good wholesome plain food without the fancy bits. Had to resort to the bar area and have chips. Breakfast not to good either. Such a shame the restaurant/food lets the hotel down as everything else was perfect.
Review 15:The staff were excellent, they could not do enough for us, when we could not find anything on the menu to suit us, the staff did their best to try and please us, which we very much appreciated. Very clean and modern room. Would stay again but would not eat there.
Review 16:Reception was poor - no clear signs and if you arrive when the pub is busy you will not really know where to go as the reception is tucked away in the corner at the far side of the pub
Review 17:Location can not be better and the breakfast was amazing, Also a very comfortable room with all the facilities one needs.
Review 18:There were some maintenance issues that I wouldn't have expected at this price point. Shower rail came off the wall, loo roll holder loose, skylight really cobwebby, nothing major but just let it down a bit.
Review 19:Location, style and size of the room
Review 20:Room was a little small. Room needed better lighting. Remote on TV didn't work. There is no real lounge area to sit in downstairs.
Review 21:Location/Area. Friendly staff. Nice and clean.
Review 22:Rude Staff. Couldn't get a reservation in the restaurant even as a paying guest but after the breakfast that was served the following morning, we were quite relieved!
Review 23:The bed was very very comfortable & the room/ bathroom were lovely.
Review 24:Nothing really. The view maybe from the room but that's expected.
Review 25:The decor, the vibe, the friendliness and excellent level of service. I'm usually quite critical of hotels and restaurants when it comes to service and facilities but the crown is quite possibly the best hotel I've stayed in for all around excellence
Review 26:Our Sunday Lunch was really disappointing grossly overpriced, we were also charged for extras that we didn't have.At breakfast the service fell away a little as the waitress seemed to be more wrapped up with the customers off the street than those who had paid to stay.
Review 27:The Hotel was warm and cosy and very clean. The staff were all very friendly especially Daniel on Bar and Reception. It was also great having Sky Sports .
Review 28:1)Bidet missing in bathroom.2)Disappointed in Menu choice. Our guests said it was better before the new chef!
Review 29:Lovely room with en-suite. Location ideal, staff lovely. Car parking. Lovely Town.
Review 30:The staff didn't understand English and were rushed off their feet trying to check people in and serve behind the bar. Any complications were quite beyond them.In our bedroom it wasn't easy to open a window.
Review 31:It was very convenient with good parking. The food was good. The staff were very pleasant.
Review 32:Very varied breakfast menu including good choices for non meat eaters (local kippers, smoked salmon, vegetarian 'full English' ). A little disappointed with the tomato and mushroom on toast. It was literally that, ONE tomato and ONE mushroom!
Review 33:The Crown has been comprehensively modernised and retains little of its original character. We found the dining room very noisy (hard surfaces + jazz band next door).
Review 34:Our double room was spacious with a comfortable bed and good quality linen. The bathroom was modern, spacious and well equipped. The restaurant was full and buzzing on an October Thursday and offered a varied and interesting menu, well presented and efficiently served.
Review 35:No complaints.
Review 36:Friendliness of staff which gave the impression they enjoy working at the Crown. The comfort of the bed and other facilities. Overall cleanliness and quality of food.
Review 37:The staff were overworked and we had to wait 20 minutes at the bar to be served; no toast with breakfast until we asked; no water placed on the table until asked. The service generally did not match up to the sort of ambiance that the hotel are trying to portray.
Review 38:The décor and location are great. Bed very comfortable and complimentary tea making facilities top quality.
Review 39:I had to change rooms as across the road to the room I was booked into there was an office refurb and the noise was impossible to live with, I asked at reception how long would it last they said till 2230. I changed rooms.
Review 40:nothing specific , but a couple of minor faults with the room...the roller blind came off the wall! Not terribly impressed with the bar area...too modern pour moi, and the wine was eye wateringly expensive
Review 41:Location and general ambience . Breakfasts were good . Staff friendly
Review 42:I had booked two rooms, one as standard at £110.00 pn the other as a executive room £130.00 pn both rooms looked the same was unable to find any difference in either room.
Review 43:Service and food at this Hotel was first class would certainly stay there again.
Review 44:The sofas were too low. A hand rail in the shower would have been helpful A shame you have to sit on the bed to watch the TV
Review 45:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The decor was gorgeous. The food was delicious
Review 46:my wife and I are both vegetarian, the breakfast was appalling, the meat was taken off the plate -which were cold -we were left with 1 mushroom, a few beans, and a small amount of scrambled egg the breakfast was certainly not value for our money (15 pounds p.p) for breakfast.
Review 47:the location
Review 48:Evening meal was poor quality and not value for money - the mussels were the smallest we have ever seen and both steaks were fatty
Review 49:Location / bathroom / Ann was extremely helpful
Review 50:Wi-fi (in room 2) fitful at best and useless for downloading anything. Had to ether go into the main bar or use a nearby BT hotspot to get any worthwhile signal. Staff agreed that this is not uncommon. Breakfast was disappointing. Speciality teas but no basic English breakfast tea. Both fried and poached eggs had solid yolks. I asked for new eggs but they were only a little less solid - as were at least two other diners. I think that the chef is too health and safety conscious or just not the regular chef. Considering that the kitchen knew in advance how many breakfasts were required that morning, and that there were not many diners at any one time this was poor.
Review 51:Good location. Parking. Nice room - but not brilliant. Nice staff. Good bar. Restaurant in the evening good.
Review 52:Exceptional! Modern, boutique hotel located in the heart of a charming small Suffolk town of Woodbridge. All staff, without exception, were very friendly and helpful. The building - though clearly old - has been tastefully modernised throughout and provides every conceivable comfort. The food was absolutely knockout and very reasonably priced. Overall highly recommended.LAF
Review 53:Breakfast was a fiasco, when we arrived no one was on breakfast reception and according to other guests had not been for 10 minutes. It took longer to find a member of staff who eventually appeared with minimal apologies and no explanation. It took a further 20 minutes before our order arrived- no breakfast items available to help ones self. From arriving to leaving was one hour and twenty minutes. When we tried to settle our account shortly afterwards there was no one on reception and we had to wait again. We felt that the attitude was one of hard luck. A pity when it should have been such a good experience
Review 54:The décor was amusing, the location was excellent, the hotel was very clean and the bed was excellent
Review 55:Nothing
Review 56:Everything! Location excellent, parking, very well organised, comfortable, modern, great attention to detail - without pretentiousness - exactly right. Dinner was really good - excellent chef. Will be going again.
Review 57:All aspects of our stay were excellent. The atmosphere in the hotel was relaxed and welcoming. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the bar well stocked. We will be returning and would highly recommend The Crown for a short break.
Review 58:No bad experience. The only small negative was there was no toiletriesin our bedroom. However, I called the reception and in no time at allsome arrived. Great service
Review 59:I thought the staff were fabulous. The lady who served breakfast wasgreat - really lovely.
Review 60:Hard to critisise, if pushed I might just mention some of the staff could have been a little more professional in the restaurant. The high bath edge mighht prove a little tricky for more elderly residents to get in and out of but we liked the victorian style of the bathroom.
Review 61:The hotel gave us a warm welcome and enquired if everything was to our satisfaction which it was. The rooms were very comforable, spacious and clean. Food was of a high standard and a good selection for breakfast.
Review 62:Beautiful, well-decorated room in a quiet town. We ate dinner as well as breakfast here, and both meals were some of the best during our visit to England.
Review 63:Expensive in general for what basically is an old coaching inn. Bar staff (blonde girl, Daisy? and bearded young chap) need to cheer up, crack a smile and interact in a friendly manner with guests, all seemed an effort when I stayed (28 July 2015). Beds very soft and not the most comfortable
Review 64:Fantastic Food, Pleasant Atmosphere, easy to park. Room size good.
Review 65:Exceptionally welcoming and friendly staff. Delicious food and wine and scrumptious breakfast. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed and pillows the best I have ever slept in.
Review 66:Wifi wasn't easy to pick up - that's all. Everything else was beautiful.
Review 67:The location is great on the Main Street. Beautifully decorated and delicious breakfast!
Review 68:Only issue was the weak WiFi signal in our room (3), but this didn't cause any problems.
Review 69:Heart of town, close to the river, all amenities and local pubs and restaurants; plenty of parking spaces; friendly, welcoming and helpful staff and a fantastic breakfast! A pleasure to be served rather than the usually buffet-style version.
Review 70:Unfortunately, we had a problem with the bedside lights which couldn't be fixed during our 3 day stay.
Review 71:Great location, great room (no.7) very helpful staff, great breakfasts.
Review 72:situated in an ideal spot at the top of the high street with parking. very nice bar/restaurant area with helpful staff. excellent breakfast. beautiful room with thoughtful finishing touches like magazines, bottled water, toiletries and dressing gown/slippers.
Review 73:Only one little gripe , no where to sit in in the evenings for a drink after dinner, only a couple of chairs by the front door , not really a place to relax.
Review 74:From the outside it looked quite plain but inside it was a different story; very modern and sleek. The bedroom was clean and light and well equiped, The restaurant was well worth a visit ,in fact we ate there every night and could have still enjoyed eating there if we had stayed longer;a very imaginative menu.
Review 75:The only very small point I would make is that we couldn't pick up the hotel's wi-go very well from our room, much better though in the public areas.
Review 76:The service at the hotel was excellent, especially from Joanna who served our breakfast, which in itself was a feast! The hotel and our room was very stylishly decorated. The hotel is very centrally located within Woodbridge and even though our room was at the front it was very quite. I would certainly recommend a stay at The Crown .
Review 77:Only plus would have been a few more sofas to chill out read the papers /have coffee out of the room environment. The existing three sofas were in a very public position, but I understand space is the problem...no negatives otherwise.
Review 78:Location, staff service and room size Liked the style of decoration.
Review 79:We had booked a room with a sofabed for my daughter. The room was modern, spacious and clean with a large comfortable double bed. We hadn't booked for dinner but the friendly staff arranged a table for us even though it was a busy bank holiday weekend. The location was excellent for town and free parking behind the hotel. Breakfast was delicious and our waitress was really friendly.
Review 80:We felt the outside could benefit from redecorating but on saying that we noticed as we left, the side door was being painted, so maybe it is in hand.
Review 81:The staff were all very friendly from the moment we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. We were even upgraded just because it was our first visit. We are looking to move to the area and the staff gave us some very useful tips.
Review 82:Stayed in room 5 which is located above the bar with a glass roof. Even without drinkers in the bar every door shutting vibrates up. Room 6 would have the same problem. Either be the last to bed or ask for room at the end away from the bar. The room will be on a road but it's quiet at night.
Review 83:We stayed so experienced 2 great breakfasts and an excellent dinner. the wine list was good and the barman suggested an excellent alternative to my usual. The staff are attentive but not overly so.
Review 84:Service at dinner was unacceptable as waiting staff also serving in bar. Kitchen duct should be always switched off at night.
Review 85:Quality of bedroom and friendliness of staff. Breakfast outstanding!
Review 86:Dinner and breakfast were really rather poor. Apparently they were short staffed and they did give us a free desert as compensation. Its not a bad place by any means but we expected a lot more for that sort of money.
Review 87:Comfy bed and a good shower. Nicely redecorated.
Review 88:Service poor...no greeting on arrival. Had to ask for bread which arrived after starter finished, wrong wine bought twice!
Review 89:Food very good. Clean room and comfortable bed.
Review 90:The location, food and staff were excellent, particularly the South African barman and the lovely lady who served breakfast the next day. We had a really enjoyable anniversary dinner in the Hotel's restaurant with great food and wine.
Review 91:Noise from kitchen ventilation carried through to the bedroom. On all night by necessity which led to interrupted sleep.
Review 92:Food, decor, location, comfort
Review 93:The blind cord in the bedroom fell off!
Review 94:We've stayed at the Crown before: the staff are lovely and the kitchen is well worth a mention. On this occasion, they made us cheese sandwiches to speed us on our 6.45am departure, which was a real kindness.
Review 95:The heating in our room was slightly below par.
Review 96:Rooms are clean & confortable. Service was excellent, nothing too much trouble and the breakfast was very good. A chic, well appointed hotel with some interesting architectural features internally. Good location.
Review 97:Room was at back and had no view except from the bathroom. Very close white painted brick walls from one window and rather grotty roofs from the high bedroom window! Only a half blind at bathroom window! Felt a little lacking in privacy.
Review 98:Excellent staff, food and decor.
Review 99:The downside was that our room faced the 'high street' and there was quite a lot of noise at night and very early in the morning. The room was so light that I had to buy an eye mask to be able to sleep.
Review 100:Friendly staff. Excellent location and good attention to detail. Lovely food.
Review 101:Being awakened at 1.30am by rowdy persons shouting and banging doors in the corridor outside the rooms.
Review 102:The staff were excellent and very welcoming and the food and facilities were great. The room was very comfortable, the hole place had excellent decor and was very clean.
Review 103:You get what you pay for - it's not cheap.
Review 104:Peaceful, comfortable, spacious and well-equipped bedroom and bathroom (we were in room 10). VG teas on the in-room tray. Cheerful, welcoming and efficient staff. a good meal on Friday night and an outstanding breakfast on Sunday. The central location with ample parking.
Review 105:The bathroom was a little chilly despite the underfloor heating.
Review 106:Breakfast was superb, the room was clean and spacious, the bath and shower were excellent and Joanne was lovely.
Review 107:You could hear the bar downstairs clearly in the bedrooms which didn't bother us but may be annoying for others
Review 108:The rooms were well equipped, designed and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and the area was in a great location
Review 109:There simply wasn't any aspect of our three day stay we disliked!!
Review 110:Staff very welcoming and helpful. Food delicious. Lovely atmosphere in the communial areas of the hotel and the bedroom very well equipped .
Review 111:The way the accommodation was laid out, the warm bathroom! The staff were warm and friendly throughout our stay. All our requests were met with a smile.
Review 112:I loved the town and The Crown has been part of it for hundreds of years, yet it has kept pace with modern changes and beautiful clean lines and design.
Review 113:The young lady at reception upon arrival was the most unfriendly & unwelcoming person I have yet to meet in a hotel. It wasn't until we returned to reception later when a young South African guy was in attendance that we met a welcoming and friendly person. Both he and the breakfast waitress made us feel welcome and the stay more enjoyable.
Review 114:Very comfortable and stylishly decorated room with all amenities. Excellent food great surroundings. Would recommend the accommodation without exception.
Review 115:Took a while to service our room, despite being out for 5 hours. Was given a complimentary tray of coffee whilst we waited.
Review 116:Very central to Woodbridge. Room 8 was very comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast freshly prepared.
Review 117:Although the staff were good there were too few of them. Breakfast was very slow with only one waitress who doubled as receptionist and served coffees in the bar. On two occasions we arrived back and found no staff anywhere so helped ourselves to our key so on these occasions security was non-existent.
Review 118:The location.
Review 119:Reception a bit hit and miss. Noise at night. However, given the number of people in the bar it really wasn't too bad.
Review 120:Very good food. Happy to provide extra bread. Good service. Central location.
Review 121:The evening meals lacked colour in their presentation and also lacked flavour. The choice of meals available could be widened and could also include more vegetables. On a minor, but important point, the availability of one spare toilet roll in the room could be increased in order to avoid having to ask for someone to another roll - especially if the room staff forget to replace the rolls!
Review 122:The room had all the usual hotel facilities and the bed was very comfortable, including wi-fi. The en-suite bathroom was excellent. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice and the staff were willing to accept any personal preferences,
Review 123:wine menu only has 175ml glasses of wine with no 250 ml option, makes wine very expensive if wanting more than a glass but not a whole bottle
Review 124:service was great the staff are a great asset to the business nothing was too much trouble Room very comfortable, nice and clean. the food was excellent, great all round stay
Review 125:Slow service at meal times No toast/croissant offered with first breakfast Random sock under bed Overcharged on restaurant bill, rectified on being pointed out by us but no apology received
Review 126:Decor Comfortable bed Clean bathroom
Review 127:The service was terrible. It took for me a long time to check in and when my partner arrived 10 minutes later, no one was available to tell him which room I was in. We asked the staff to book us a taxi and were not informed of it's arrival time or where it would be waiting for us (despite stressing that we had to leave promptly) and were therefore late heading to a wedding. At breakfast we had to ask to order and then our food arrived 20 minutes before our drinks, despite repeated requests. It took 35 minutes for two juices and filter coffees to arrive although the food arrived quickly. It is a shame as the venue and setting are wonderful and so with better service this would be a gem. As it was, we felt it was not good value for money.
Review 128:The hotel and room were absolutely stunning. Our room was big, light and airy and very quiet and we were very happy with it.
Review 129:Being a warm night & needing the windows open made it more noisy than we're used to (we live in a quiet village so just not used to being in a town) and there was an air conditioning unit from an adjacent property making a constant hum.
Review 130:Nice large bedroom in the main part of the building. Decor was very tasteful without being too formal. Great breakfast. Comfortable bed.
Review 131:The prices were akin to London and the coffee even more expensive than what I would pay in London by my office - would expect something more in-line with a rural price!
Review 132:Great location, comfortable bed, great breakfast, contemporary
Review 133:Small cramped room with one window directly behind the bed; the bath was very high to step out and there was scarcely enough toilet paper; noisy badly fitting doors everywhere, noisy bar below the room; cramped dining room
Review 134:Very comfortable bed, good breakfast, bedroom and bathroom very clean.
Review 135:The staff were helpful, friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and all facilities were provided at this newly renovated centre of town hotel - including good parking. A very comfortable stay - We would certainly revisit again.
Review 136:Soft furnishing in dining rooms would work well however it is very nice . Place mats or table cloths would make it feel more comfortable and elegant. Our room was quite small in comparison to our guests (friends)in room 8 for only a £20 difference in cost .
Review 137:Decor ,staff and atmosphere .
