Reviews for The Bull Hotel & Restaurant
Review 1:The welcoming and helpful nature of the staff was superb. We arrived with little time to spare and within 2 or 3 minutes we'd checked-in, got our keys and had a taxi ordered for us which arrived within another couple of minutes later. Excellent service.
Review 2:Room very cold and provided bedding inadequate barrier to the cold. State of bathroom left plenty to be desired. WiFi connection unusable.
Review 3:Friendly staff, nice breakfasts.
Review 4:The only problems were a temperamental internet connection and a dodgy TV signal at times, and we could manage to survive without either.
Review 5:The staff were friendly and put themselves out to circumvent a problem which would have diminished the pleasure of our visit to Woodbridge. The bed was comfortable, the room and the general atmosphere warm - and the water was hot!
Review 6:Shower - Very Low Water Pressure Parking Spaces - Very Limited Room Decor - Basic but functional (Not really in keeping with the building)
Review 7:Fab Location - In the heart of Woodbridge Free Parking Lovely Building Friendly / Accomodating Staff
Review 8:Greeting/reception Staff were rather business like and functional , no one offered to help with the bags .
Review 9:The building, location, nice and warm , good breakfast, comfortable room, the price , Girl on breakfast in the morning was lovely .
Review 10:The staff were all very pleasant. The breakfast was excellent! The rooms were comfortable, a home away from home and it was quiet. The bed was very comfortable and I had a good night's sleep every night I stayed. I look forward to staying there next time I visit Woodbridge. I
Review 11:We had a lovely warm welcome by extremely friendly and helpful staff. We were able to check in early to get ready and were helped to sort out taxis etc. A comfy room everything we needed for an overnight stay for a wedding. Lovely warm fire and great English breakfast to top it off.
Review 12:Towels are a bit old and grey though clean. Music gigs at night meant noise until late.
Review 13:Location was perfect for us. Market Hill is a beautiful sight with St.Mary's church behind.
Review 14:Radiators didn't work, so cold couldn't sleep, water pouring through ceiling in breakfast room, rooms and bathroom need decorating and updating, could be a lovely place but very run down
Review 15:Character of building, location, breakfast, bar
Review 16:Thought it could be updated inside as interior was a bit dated. Was also kind of noisey in the morning with people talking loudly
Review 17:Location was very good to the town centre with loads of places to eat and drink
Review 18:A more luxurious bathroom would be good!
Review 19:The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. The bar area and dining room are pleasant and peaceful during out mid week stay; menu for dinner good and varied, also full English breakfast in the morning. The location is excellent, right in the middle of the market square. This is an old hotel though the public areas have been modernised in a tasteful way. Our bedroom was plainly furnished though comfortable and the bathroom a bit dated frankly but clean and water hot.
Review 20:The evening meal menu looked really good but the dining area seemed a bit austere which is why we didn't go for an evening meal. Only stayed for two nights though and I suspect that if we had been in Woodbridge longer and had evening meal at hotel we would have been very pleased with it. Maybe next time as definitely would choose to stay here again.
Review 21:Pleasant staff, pleasant room, good location. Our breakfast was delicious. Value for money couldn't be beaten.
Review 22:The TV in the room was faulty (sound didn't work properly) Door to the bathroom didn't shut properly Hot water wasn't hot (ONLY GRUMBLES,NOTHING TO PUT US OFF STAYING AGAIN!)
Review 23:Nice friendly staff Hotel was accessible and easy to get to. Dinner was fine with plenty of choice and reasonably priced
Review 24:Town centre location does mean it is noisy at night, but we had stayed before and were aware of that
Review 25:Perfect location in centre of Woodbridge. Very helpful and welcoming staff
Review 26:Third visit to this hotel..Really enjoyed the location to the train station and the town.Always very helpful and friendly staff.Food always very good too !
Review 27:The room was looking a little tired and the shower/toilet room and separate sink were very tatty. I know that the building is old but these facilities were not good enough for the price charged.
Review 28:Excellent breakfast. Excellent location in the centre of town.
Review 29:The radiator in the bedroom didn't work, but a fan heater was provided already in the room, so we used that. The menu was great but unfortunately, the fish grill had both under and overcooked elements to it. The staff were great, but hogged the most comfortable sofa in the bar...(I'm sure they deserved a rest from their work as we all do!) The bar does not serve proper bitter or ale.
Review 30:The staff were friendly and helpful. Great value for money. Great breakfast and evening meals. Great location for getting into town for coffee, shopping, pubs etc. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed.
Review 31:car parking very tight. Dirty pillows on arrival not a good start even though they were washed immediately.
Review 32:great breakfast, staff helpful, room large.
Review 33:Room overheated, and the radiator valve did not work. Decor shabby, bathroom rediator rusty. Room very small. Breakfast coffee dreadful.
Review 34:Location - near to church, where we were attending a funeral. In the town centre, for walking to shops, restaurants, etc. Breakfast food good. Bed comfortable.
Review 35:Cracked tiles on bathroom floor. No sink in the bathroom - it is on the other side of the room. Precarious steps to the bedroom - you needed to be very careful when carrying a suitcase.
Review 36:The location
Review 37:Room on 3rd floor walk up. needs renovating. They said that would be done next year. white wire hangers in wardrobe!! Slippery bathtub. Powdered eggs for breakfast!
Review 38:Convient to grandchildren and daughter.
Review 39:The room was old fashioned and needed an update, not like the rooms advertised on the website. The en suite was very small, however the shower was powerful and warm. The room was cold as the temperature had dropped and there was no heating on.
Review 40:It was only an overnight stay to attend a nearby wedding. So for the money it served a purpose. The staff were friendly and pleasant.
Review 41:Unfortunately the building is in a poor condition and could benefit from a total refurbishment there was water coming through the ceiling in the breakfast room from a shower above
Review 42:The staff were very pleasant and helpful the cook breakfast was good and the hotel was located in a good central position in the town
Review 43:Whole property was extremely tired, we gathered it is about to be taken over which could explain this. All very amateur, more the service of a poor B&B and never saw another customer!
Review 44:Nothing I'm sorry to say.
Review 45:Tiny room for 2 people, bed was awful. Ensuite was very grubby round the edges, mould/mildew and paint coming away from woodwork and radiators.
Review 46:Value for money, location.
Review 47:The staff were very friendly and even though we arrived early for check-in prepared our room whilst we relaxed in the bar. The building has so much character.
Review 48:Happened to be particularly hot and humid that day, and no a/c. Would not normally be a problem.
Review 49:Very large bedroom and bathroom, 4-poster bed with windows overlooking the town. Very well furnished.
Review 50:Wi-Fi was a big issue not available above the ground floor. Staff didn't seem to care, with the exception of one member of the waitressing staff. Insufficient car parking. Holes and mildew in bathroom.
Review 51:Breakfast was OK.
Review 52:Evening meal mediocre and would not recommend. Parking facilities were limited and needed to get to the hotel early to get a space.
Review 53:It was clean and tidy and staff were helpful. Breakfast was good. location was good.
Review 54:Parking was a problem! Some of the carpets looked a bit 'tired', and we didn't like the artwork on the walls. Old-fashioned we felt, and may not seem important to some! All-in-all, though, a good stay. Thank you.
Review 55:Liked the traditional feel. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Room had ironing board...impressive!( Tho' didn't need to use it).
Review 56:The rooms are dated wall paper peeling off, the manager/owner rude, unprofessional, gives basil fawlty a good run for his money!!!Didn't even stay for breakfast it was so bad.
Review 57:Their is a young lad with glasses who went out of his way to try and benice and helpful....
Review 58:Would have preferred if the curtains had kept out more light in the morning. Bathroom could do with a refurbishment.
Review 59:Breakfast was excellent. Best i have had in hotel for many years. Bed very comfy and a lovely large room. Staff all very friendly and polite. Lovely position in the town.
Review 60:Nothing really, the only thing that I can think of breakfast is only until 9.30 in the week, which we missed.
Review 61:The hotel was a great location for what we needed. The room had a four posted bed, great. it is ready for a face lift, but is clean.
Review 62:The building is old there are lots of stairs. None of the floors are level-part of the charm.shower had some cracked tiles but water hot, bed a bit old and lumpy.
Review 63:Olde worlde part of town. Staff great. Found space in car park, yay! Food lovely. Quaint old town, well positioned in the centre.
Review 64:There was a limited and cramped amount of parking. Twisty stairways made it difficult to get a suitcase up.
Review 65:Nice staff but under staffed. Old feeling which was nice and quaint!
Review 66:Bathroom had some tiles loose. Breakfast a bit too self-service (pour own juice, coffee, make toast, etc). Stairs steep and not for the faint-hearted !!
Review 67:Friendly staff, upgrade on arrival - we got a four-poster which was really comfy (Room 14). Parking on site, breakfast tasty. Were told about roadworks and apologized to (they really couldn't do anything about that). We didn't eat there, but menu looked lovely.
Review 68:The ultra steep stairs, but that was a feature of the lovely old building, so not a criticism, more an observation.
Review 69:Friendly & v helpful staff. Comfy bed & pillows. Great breakfast with just the right mix of table service and serve-yourself - loved being able to make my own pot of tea just how I like it, ditto the toast. Great central location.
Review 70:Room on top floor really stuffy & warm - needs air conditioning. Banisters a bit wobbly - would be worried about safety with these if I had young children with me.
Review 71:Really well situated for coast & surrounding villages & attractions. Woodbridge is lovely too. Lovely breakfast. Beds comfy. Tea/coffee/hairdryer/iron - Room facilities good.
Review 72:The bathroom was rather worn with a broken shower.
Review 73:The bed was comfortable and everything you need was in the room, including ironing board, iron and hairdryer. Breakfast was a full English.
Review 74:Lacked a shower and some of the decor was in need of attention, but it is a very old building! Slightly over priced perhaps for what it is.
Review 75:Lovely helpful friendly staff, great location.
Review 76:No shower in the four poster bedroom, large bathroom though and I prefer a soak in the tub anyway so not particarly a problem for me, but some might count it as a negative.
Review 77:Welcomed by the lovely Wendy for whom nothing was too much trouble. Great location right in the middle of the picturesque town of Woodbridge. Very reasonable rates, a building steeped in history, four poster bed and a hearty Suffolk breakfast.
Review 78:I liked all of it
Review 79:The staff, very helpful The room nice clean and simple The breakfast excellent The location excellent The quirky old parts of the building
Review 80:Room shabby shower tiles cracked and black did not feel clean. There was no shower pressure. Heating pipes clunking for over two hours early morning. Toilet door did not close properly and often stuck when trying to open it.Sash windows did not open fron the bottom (fire escape.
Review 81:The hotel is a little tired and the bathroom in our room (no.1) definitely need updating! There was slight mould around the bath and although there was a shower screen the shower head couldn't be used as a shower! There was only one staff member on arrival and she was stretched as had to cover the reception, the bar and managing the parking as each new guest arrived!!
Review 82:The location and staff were fantastic! The room was massive and bed very comfortable! It was an ideal venue for a wedding we attended locally. It's in the middle of the quaint town so ideal if exploring Woodbridge.
Review 83:I didn't like that I couldn't use the sink as there was no way to let the water out. I didn't like that their was only one set of towels for two people. I personally didn't like the breakfast choice as it came straight out of the 70's with no attempt to offer fruit other than tinned grapefruit or prunes, Coffee that sits on a percolator for the morning.
Review 84:The location was very good. The building was quirky.
Review 85:Things for improvement: The room did not look at all like the ones in the website. Very old and in need of some urgent updating. Would expect more for the price we paid for it.
Review 86:Positives: Location Friendly staff Nice breakfast Quite clean
Review 87:The bed, very uncomfortable. A cheap base with a topper on the top. Far too soft, so much so my husband sank in the middle resulting in me sleeping up on one side with our feet higher than our heads. The reception area... what is that about. I had to sit on the floor to sign paperwork!!
Review 88:Hotel staff were very friendly, the rooms are decorated nicely, the breakfast was ok.
Review 89:Just one thing, the smell of floor cleaning whilst eating breakfast (however it wouldnt put me off going here again)
Review 90:The location was great, our room was huge, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was good(especially the scrambled eggs).
Review 91:My booking was for my daughter and her child. Only objection was that breakfast could not be provided befor 8 o'clock on day of departure. They liked the accommodation and will use the hotel again. Thanks.
Review 92:Would've liked the lights to have been fixed in the shower room - friends stayed in the same room the night before and said they had already reported the fault.
Review 93:Big room, comfy beds, good location close to Prezzo and other restaurants, friendly staff.
Review 94:The hotel entrance at the back was slightly tired looking and the bathroom was rather dated.
Review 95:Good location, good size room. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff.
Review 96:I could not figure out how to control the shower.
Review 97:Nice big room and bathroom. Good location. Off-road parking. Excellent breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 98:Everything felt a bit unloved and basic, rooms are adequate but not in any way plush, bathroom could do with a bit of attention (grouting mouldy etc), rooms fitted out very cheaply. Breakfast decent although tea bags a bit cheap and nasty! Had to go out to get morning cuppa elsewhere...
Review 99:Location is good in the centre of Woodbridge
Review 100:The bed was a little uncomfortable, the mattress felt a bit old and you could feel some springs when you lay down
Review 101:I stayed 2 nights in the hotel while on business in the area and had a really pleasant time. The building itself is gorgeous with original exposed beams and crooked hallways! The staff were friendly and helpful. I will possibly be moving to the area so wanted to know what it was like and after a good hour spent chatting in the bar with the owner I was feeling pretty positive about it
Review 102:Understaffed - waited 10 minutes while the single front of house guy served four meals and tended the bar before getting round to me at reception (not his fault). Bed small, low and at a slant. No chair at the too-small desk. Everything seemed cheapest possible except the bill which was mid-range (£67.00 B&B for one). Wifi password did not work. No decent beer - in Adnams country! Dismal, I am afraid.
Review 103:It is in the centre of Woodbridge with free parking. Reasonable breakfast.
Review 104:The only thing we would have liked was a shower in the bathroom. BUT that is just a small thing compared to what we did get!
Review 105:It felt as though we were visiting friends. We were made to feel so very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was magnificent and our hosts were magnificent!
Review 106:My only negatives are, that there was no lift, so on the third floor it could be quite tiring, and although the bathroom was vast and beautiful, there was no shower or shower fitments, so washing hair and such was a chore.
Review 107:The room was amazing - huge room, four poster bed and despite being so close to the centre it was really quiet in the room. The room was very clean and the breakfast was brilliant.
Review 108:Inside the hotel and the bedroom - gloomy, dark and cold. We had room 10 on the top floor - long and narrow, basic and featureless. It resembled very much the solders quarters. Not what one would expect for over 100 per night!
Review 109:The location in the center of Woodbridge was great, car park for the customers at the back.
Review 110:Remember that this is a 600 year old building and not a modern hotel. The room was very small and cramped and the bed was a small double. My wife complained about the comfort but I thought it was ok. Aspects of the room were shabby. Awkward and uneven stairs and corridors. BUT. The hotel is a historic building and as I said to my wife, you can't stay in a historic building and complain that its old.
Review 111:Location was perfect for our needs. Breakfast was excellent. Good value for money considering its location. Staff were good. Room had all the basic needs.
Review 112:We tried to go outside to see the new in but the doors were locked and by the time the man in charge had been found and he had gone to reception to get the key it was after midnight. For us a concern in case of fire, there were lots of people there that evening.
Review 113:Festive evening
Review 114:Despite the mildness of the weather the room was very cold. Also, I appreciate older buildings with their charm and character, but there's no excuse for the old and frankly very worn fittings - the owners need to take a good long look at the details as a refurbishment is well overdue.
Review 115:The location and availability (given that we booked the day before NYE).
Review 116:tired hotel.Room was nothing like the photos on website.breakfast poor quality for Suffolk.Did not like the failure to notify us of live music that night ,when I rang to confirm the day before. ,especially as it was underneath our room.!
Review 117:not much. The front approach looks good
Review 118:Very limited onsite parking, first come first served and you could get blocked in. We parked in an adjacent side road with no problems. There was a loud disco Sat evening but didn't effect sleeping as the rooms seem to be quite.
Review 119:Very central location in Woodbridge. Excellent staff and very accommodating to our change of plans. Satisfying full breakfast, good value for money.
Review 120:Very steep staircase-just as well we only had light luggage! Cold in restaurant and long wait because of big parties in. It would be nice to have 2 chairs in double bedroom!
Review 121:Reception staff extremely obliging and helpful. Simple but good quality food at dinner. Delicious freshly-prepared breakfast. A peaceful night.
Review 122:Only 'slight' niggle would be to improve the flow of hot water in the shower.
Review 123:Most everything was great, including a full and lovely breakfast on both days.
Review 124:Did not spot the car park at the rear through side entrance (Tunnel) and got caught up in the one way system and was being mislead by Post Code using a Sat Nav (Took me down street opposite!)
Review 125:Car parking good if you spot the entrance (LOL) inside very cosy at the bar next to the log fire
Review 126:Knocking sounds coming from radiator or central heating pipe on landing outside room
Review 127:Very attentive staff and good service Comfortable room and bed Evening meal
Review 128:The reception for the TV meant all BBC channels were unavailable. The lovely bed squeaked quite a bit just turning over. the Bathroom didn't have a shower and the temporary attachable shower converter didn't fit the taps properly, but I was only staying one night and the bath made a change. Given the size of the bathroom though a bigger bath would be suggestion for the future. Wifi didn't reach the room and was best received in the sports bar. Car park was a bit tight getting in and out.
Review 129:Large spacious room with 4 poster bed and large screen high def TV. Warm spacious bathroom and free WIFI. Menu was interesting and food was nicely cooked and well proportioned. Staff were very helpful and tried to improve the tv and shower situation and allowed me sole use of the sports bar instead.
Review 130:Television had bad reception & radio kept cutting out - in room, very annoying! Bathroom door didn't close properly and bed was quite hard.
Review 131:Good location - can walk everywhere easily. Lovely log fire in the bar. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 132:Pressure of water in the shower very poor but it is an old building! Arrived back at the hotel at 10 pm after a family visit. Could not park! No room in the car park and nothing in the market place. Had to go back round the one way road system and got lost. Very stressful! Eventually wedged my tiny car in front of the hotel behind a bigger car. Not ideal but only option .
Review 133:Friendly lady booked me and my daughter in on Saturday. Same lovely lady served our breakfast! Room very nice and twin beds as requested. Liked the decor.
Review 134:The mattress was probably overdue a change and the carpark on the Saturday night was totally full with limited on street parking but generally it is very good.
Review 135:The staff are really nice and helpful. The building is full of character with sloping floors. The breakfast is very good. It is very handy for the town centre.
Review 136:No shower Food in restaurant was not particularly appetising and probably had too many dishes on the menu.
Review 137:Owners helpful position of hotel very big twin bedded room, with sitting area and tv
Review 138:The hotel was very old (think the manager said it was 800 years old). Our room was clean, bed comfy and overall was plesent. I would reccomend and stay again.
Review 139:My sister and i were attending a wedding at the woodhall mannor and chose the bull hotel as it was one of the cheapest places to stay in woodbridge. The staff were friendly, bar and breakfast room were nice.
Review 140:Very noisy at night, with lots of drinkers from the pub in the street outside the pub.
Review 141:Large comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Hotel allowed us to check in early for a wedding and staff were very helpful.
Review 142:There was a party on until 1:30pm which was very noisey! Also, fighting and commotion outside until 2:30am in which the Police turned up at one point. I am sure this is not a regular thing, I guess I was unlucky at this time. Mattress was very old and every time I moved or rolled over the springs were making a huge noise and sounded like they were about to come through. The radiator in the bathroom was very rusty and old. The shower was nice and big but very slippery ( I slipped twice) I think a rubber bath mate or a handle inside would of stopped me falling on my backside. The TV was unwatchable as it had very bad picture break up and lost it signal every 5 seconds. That was very annoying as I just wanted to relax at watch TV at a few points during my stay. The whole place has lots of petencial, it just need lots of TLC. The reason I've made all of these point were because of it £87 nightly cost and I didn't think it was worth that much. In its current condition I think £50-59 would be fair. As I have said in the positive part, the staff and owner were very nice and very helpful. Full marks for them.
Review 143:Manager was very attentive and had a late check out with no extra cost. Staff for Breakfast was very friendly and attentive.
The Fine Print
