Reviews for Grapevine Hotel

Review 1:We didn't think it was good value however we were there the weekend before Xmas so naturally it was going to be expensive but was way too much. We had a room at the front of the hotel, woke up several times in the early morning with traffic.

Review 2:I needed a stop over on a cold wet midweek business trip and the Grapevine more than met my expectations. The car park is round the back but is very handy. Its a clean cosy place and my room was lovely with modern facilities and a low light in the bathroom, I hate crashing around in pitch dark rooms when you don't know the geography for a night pee. Breakfast was great and served in the sister hotel opposite. Great visit really. But I did only pay £60. If I'd have paid weekend rates I might be a bit more picky but probably not much.

Review 3:Can you sort the weather out. Haha

Review 4:Lovely and clean helpful staff, the menu didn't give a lot of choice but the food was wonderful , breakfast great too. We had a dog and they we're very helpful we don't mind eating in the bar , it's a nice bar and in the morning we eat in the bar again and they we're so lovely running into me and my dog us serving breakfast. Great stay. Shower Fabulous.

Review 5:Area was very expensive , seem to be a lot of Pubs with resturant prices . average £5 per pint and £14 for a burger. £8 for a panini.

Review 6:Hotel was clean , staff were friendly .

Review 7:The overall décor was very mixed with some rooms like bar and sitting room very worn and uncared for. Not somewhere you would want to sit.

Review 8:Room was great with lovely bathroom

Review 9:It's not a dislike but a suggestion as you leave the car park you can't see the approaching traffic from either direction it may be an idea if possible to fit a couple of mirrors

Review 10:Private parking/ friendly staff/good accomerdation/ seemed to be plenty of local amenities

Review 11:Not a bad experience however would suggest a more varied menu and signs to the car park as had to park up and check in to get the information on how to enter the car park

Review 12:Loved the location and how friendly the staff were

Review 13:Nothing :)

Review 14:Love the friendly welcome we received the lady on reception was exceptional! She showed us to our beautiful 4 poster beds, we were made up and such a treat for my parents. Could tell she had hand picked the rooms for us! Brilliant! Also love the decor made very homely.

Review 15:The staff did everything to make our stay comfortable, friendly and a lot of fun. The service and food were excellent and we hope to be able to visit this wonderful hotel which is full of character.

Review 16:Bedroom became somewhat over warm at night even with the radiators off.

Review 17:Very friendly staff. Reception was well prepared for a simple check in and we were kindly shown to our room. The room was large and very comfortable with quite excellent shower, washing facilities etc. Particularly liked the heated bathroom mirror so one could comfortably shave post shower. Our request for special dietary needs had been noted and were acted upon.

Review 18:The hotel needs a lot of refurbishing. All the paintwork, the conservatory roof. Hardly any xmas decorations - I could do better myself - it doesn't cost a lot. No atmosphere in the bar - so went out.

Review 19:We were meeting up with friends and eat out.

Review 20:poor welcome, cold dining room , poorly trained staff bar not manned food variable could not use hair dryer and look in mirror at the same time . noise from upstair rooms as people moved about

Review 21:Location Comfortable bedrooms Good shower

Review 22:The Grapevine was situated in the market square with access to all the pubs and shops. The Old Butchers restaraunt was close by and give an execellent venue for a party.

Review 23:There was a lot of noise from other guests and a dog barking very late that went onto 2 or 3 am. We had room 1 so everybody came passed the room very loudly with no consideration. We come for the weekend for relaxation and not to be kept awake half the night with Karaoke!!

Review 24:Very good location, nice rooms and good staff

Review 25:Big bed but Mattress bowed in middle - faded carpets. Tired. failed to give us the right door key to get back in

Review 26:Location lovely public area with real fire New bathroom

Review 27:Nothing

Review 28:We liked the staff verry helpful and really pleasant , food was nice although we had only breakfast as we had other arrangements. We had a beautiful room and was in a lovely location.

Review 29:Whe we came back from a nearby restaurant it would have been nice for one of the staff to come and make up the fire in the bar/lounge area as it was a cold evening and needed a little cheer

Review 30:Great breakfast and very nice, helpful restaurant staff

Review 31:Crumby service, poorly maintained, worst breakfast including weak coffee, forgot my requested newspaper. Couldn't manage tea and toast on arrival as would take too long, had to move rooms due to a water tank issue causing an unacceptable level of noise throughout the upper floors and in the room. Frankly run down, needs re-staffing and updating. As leaving, another couple had a very poor experience too, even worse from the sounds of things.

Review 32:Stow on the Wold

Review 33:Beautiful hotel, lovely decor, the room was beautifully decorated with a four poster bed. Both dinner in the restaurant plus the breakfast were superb. The staff made us feel extremely welcome.

Review 34:A shame the open fires were not lit (cold November weather, website showed roaring log fire!) and room was chilly at times.

Review 35:Friendly staff, fairly central location, lovely meal in restaurant, room very clean.

Review 36:Friendly service without being fake or over-the-top, excellent location, nice facilities, nice building, plenty of car park space at rear of building.

Review 37:No shower in the bathroom.(room 7) Hand held shower tap in Bath not working. Deep corner bath but no hand rails to assist getting in and out of bath which is difficult with a bad back. Low sloping ceiling to one side of room next to bed.

Review 38:Lovely food. Friendly staff. Comfy bed.

Review 39:Breakfast quality of produce not great. Room and communal areas were not cleaned to a great standard. 2 out of 3 lights in bathroom not working. Reported it but issue not resolved by time of checkout.

Review 40:The bar area and evening meal were good.

Review 41:Being woken up by smoke alarm and informed by one of the bar staff the next day that they had to go in and check our alarm why didnt someone come to our room to tell us this if we hadnt gone for a drink would we have ever been informed

Review 42:Food where it was situated

Review 43:Our room was small, which was as described, but also v basic. There was no shower, just a bath- and felt overall that for what we got in the hotel it was pretty overpriced. Bed was comfortable, but walls extremely thin (most likely due to the age of the building more than anything else) meaning noises from all adjacent rooms could be heard leading to a lack of sleep! Room could also have done with a lick of paint- there were bits peeling off, that wouldn't take a great deal to sort.

Review 44:great central location, with on site parking. Has a great breakfast selection, and very helpful staff.

Review 45:The room was wonderful, large and comfortable, the location good and the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely go back.

Review 46:The breakfast on the first day wasnt very tasty. Seemed like it had been prepared the night before then warmed up the next morning.

Review 47:Good location. Parking at the rear. Cleanliness. I fell ill on the second day and did not fancy the breakfast. The owner kindly brought some porridge and tea to the room.

Review 48:The bar was shut before 11pm we arrived back at 22.45 and was told they had shut the bar. Had to go out to have a nightcap in local bar with our friends who were also guest . We had asked on arrival if the bar would be open when we returned and was told yes to residents. Didn't spoil our night too much but was not ideal .

Review 49:Nice and comfortable ,Cosy.

Review 50:The hotel was superbly located in the village and the staff were extremely helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. The restuarant was beautiful with lovely food and service - perfect for couples and with families. A wonderful experience and would highly recommend staying here.

Review 51:Only slight complaint would be room could do with a little better dusting.

Review 52:Friendly and efficient staff. Restaurant food excellent. This is our second visit and would definitely stay again.

Review 53:Beautiful room with a view across the green. The staff were very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We were upgraded to a premier double without extra charge. Had a lovely stay and will be going back.

Review 54:No draught beer or lager on bottled, had to point out light build need changing and security chain did not work, a lot of cobwebs in the room. Staff seemed inexperienced.

Review 55:Location for business activities next day

Review 56:Warm welcome from staff who upgraded us as it was our 35th Wedding Anniversary and gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly with our evening meal. Very tasty evening meal and a hearty breakfast.

Review 57:Receptionist wasn't friendly. No shower, just a small bath which at 5'1" I could hardly get in. No electricity point by a mirror so couldn't dry hair properly. TV control rubbish couldn't watch telly, so watched news on kindle.

Review 58:Location of the hotel. General ambience, historic features and car park.

Review 59:We didn't sleep at all in our two night stay. A herd of wilderbeast roaming across our ceiling would have been quieter and sleeping rough on the serengeti would have been more comfortable than our bed, or at least we may have been bitten less.

Review 60:The staff and in particular overworked manager Tracey, were exceptional. The food too was excellent and very good value.

Review 61:Our room was a lovely 'cosy' room at front of building -very nice. One observation bar area directly below and for those who want total peace and quiet during their stay this room might not suit - although we did not find it problematic.

Review 62:Warm welcome - friendly accommodating staff - great food, will be returning without doubt.

Review 63:we thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay, very prompt attention when requested hairdryer as non in room delicious food both in the evening and breakfast.

Review 64:The first room we were shown had a very soft bed well past its best. Could not have slept on it but fortunately staff found another room. Bathroom could have been cleaner. Had to ask for toiletries the second day. Stair carpet was spotted, looked dirty. Food presentation was poor -a- little garnish would have made it look more appetising, both breakfast and dinner.

Review 65:Conveniently situated for visiting the Cotswolds. Staff helpful. Good breakfast choices.

Review 66:Our bad experience was my husband falling getting out of the shower. He is 78 yrs and quite fit. He is going to write to the Hotel Management team about his fall as he thinks the modern shower was at fault with water flowing onto the floor

Review 67:We liked the food. The Grapevine staff are excellent. They went out of their way to help us, particularly the receptionists.

Review 68:I thought the bar closed a little early .

Review 69:I left some jewellery in the room when we left and the hotel called to confirm my address to post to me . Couldn't help enough and even refused when I offered to pay postage .

Review 70:Although the menu seemed good at first, many of the items were not available during our stay.

Review 71:Location was ideal for seeing the Cotswolds and browsing the local shops.

Review 72:The only thing was the noise from the room below on our first night, but once we told reception it was sorted straight away.

Review 73:Location was perfect for where we wanted to go during our stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay there again if travelling there again.

Review 74:Loud droning noise from the water system when other guests using bath/shower. At 11pm went to reception & asked staff member to witness the noise which often continued for many minutes. Nothing they could do about it at the time.

Review 75:Excellent breakfast & very attentive staff.

Review 76:None.

Review 77:Everything. Staff very friendly. Food excellent quality and superbly cooked. Room very spacious and bed comfortable. Staff went out of their way to ensure you were looked after well.

Review 78:we were charged a deposit of £50 when booking without being told, meal very average for a hotel.charged for 2 glasses of wine each when we only had one

Review 79:great position in the town, very good in appearance in hotel reception and restaraunt

Review 80:Rooms overpriced for fairly mediocre rooms - premium rooms not really premium at all and garden rooms very noisy on ground floor from room above. Not as much character as you'd hope for a Cotswold hotel

Review 81:Good location in Stow, breakfast is OK

Review 82:Just a lack of plugs for phone chargers and hair dryers etc , in fact there were no visible ones at all only when I plulled the lead from the big kettle and found an extension lead

Review 83:Room was a lot better than expected very clean and well decorated and smelt very fresh

Review 84:A wonderful stay. Great location in the Cotswolds. Greeted by friendly and welcoming staff on arrival. Room was clean, warm, comfortable and well decorated. Our favourite hotel in the 4 weeks travelling around the UK!

Review 85:Was upgraded to superior room, found it very small so hate to have seen what the standard room looked like and the full English breakfast, found it didn't taste nice.

Review 86:Like the old traditional stone work

Review 87:The free wifi was useless you could not log in anywhere with their password. Although the room was adequate I found thick dust on the bottom shelf of the Bedside cabinets. I wasn't keen on the Italian theme for the evening meals in the restaurant which I found to be overpriced. maybe a more general menu and then I may have eaten there instead of using the local pubs.

Review 88:The breakfast was absolutely blooming marvelous. The location was Perfect. The staff were the friendliest we have come across. The shower and bath were really nice

Review 89:Windows were not open leading us to believe at first didn't open. Spent a rather hot stuffy night.

Review 90:It was in a very good position. The decor outside hotel was very welcomi g.

Review 91:Bedroom was dusty with many cobwebs had inadequate lighting and was not soundproof in relation to the bedroom above. Shower unit had mould round the base and no proper seals between the unit and wall.

Review 92:The friendliness and politeness of the staff. The food was enjoyable.

Review 93:not a bad experience ...just a little lack of communication when we ordered a Sunday paper , it didn't arrive not a big deal as the guy was only 3 days into his new job , we didn't ask for a paper on the Monday as we we were going home but got one ? at first I thought it might be complementary but we paid 60p ! for it hey ho

Review 94:fantastic central location ...good parking facilities round back of hotel , lovely hotel too would recommend

Review 95:The beds weren't to the same standard if the hotel. Mattresses weren't not as comfortable.

Review 96:Friendly Staff and location and cleanliness was the great pros of this hotel. Breakfast was also really good.

Review 97:This isn't bad so much as annoying. We waited 45 minutes for our meal to arrive (no starters) which we felt was far too long especially as we saw another couple who ordered after us receive their starter before our meal. The food when we did get it was delicious and beautifully served but we still don't understand why it took so long.

Review 98:1. Location 2. friendliness/helpfulness of all staff 3. quality of food (see other comment)

Review 99:We have stayed at this hotel before. The friendly staff who can not do enough. The location and price suit us very well, and we would not hesitate to return.

Review 100:We loved everything about this place. The staff, the location, the breakfast, and the room were excellent. One of the most satisfying places we have ever stayed.

Review 101:During our stay there was no draught beer available and all bar snacks were past their sell by date

Review 102:Not the most picturesque town but a good base for exploring the Cotswolds

Review 103:The room was very small and at the back of the hotel. It was noisy from machines all night. The food at dinner was awful. wanted Cotswold atmosphere and it just didnt have it! Expected a little more for the money. Very disappointed.

Review 104:Nice breakfast.

Review 105:Not a bad experience, but we booked the restaurant on our first night which was busy (we counted six tables, including us) and we waited fifty minutes for our first course to come out. We didn't complain but the table next to us did. I only mention it as an observation. But the service was slow. On our second night we ate at the Stow lodge hotel and they were a lot busier but managed to serve all tables in good time. No draught beer.

Review 106:Staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially the young lady on reception who found us another room when I discovered we were located on the third floor with no lift. I explained my wife walked with a stick and would find it difficult to make all those stairs, I should have checked to see if there was a lift, so it was my fault really, but she found us a perfect alternative room which was upgraded at no extra cost. Thankyou to her. The room was smart clean and the little extras in the room made it a little bit more comfy,

Review 107:Reception staff were vague with there instructions which were very quickly given..not professional

Review 108:The waiter was polite considerate and very professional

Review 109:We have known The Grapevine (especially the restaurant) for more than 25 years. The menu now has a poor selection for this quality of hotel, which seems to be staffed on a 'shoestring': when we checked in there seemed to be only one (very helpful) member of staff on duty and when we went for dinner, found no staff in the restaurant, at reception or in the bar. We dined out on our second evening.

Review 110:Very pleasant and helpful staff. Pleasant room and well equipped bathroom. On site parking and very convenient for the town.

Review 111:Such a welcoming staff, such a comfortable small inn w parking in rear, and the charming village of Stow on the Wold steps from the front door. Perfect.

Review 112:Arrived for breakfast at 9.30 (10.00 last serving) but most items had been used up. We had to ask for more fruit juice, more glasses and more bread. there were no croissants left. Hotel was expensive for what it was!

Review 113:Location and general look of the hotel. Reception staff lent us a pair of cufflinks!

Review 114:Very welcoming staff on arrival. We hoped for an early check in to get ready for a midday wedding service we were attending in the town. The staff did their up most to find us an empty room in which to get changed. We were also able to add a third bed to our twin room to accommodate all three of us which was an added bonus

Review 115:Bed wasn't the most comfortable but still has a reasonable night sleep

Review 116:Excellent staff very attentive Food was excellent great menus Great location Friendly and helpful advice on local area

Review 117:Pity there was no natural yogurt at breakfast. A beautiful bathroom, but struggled to find a place to put my toilet bag!

Review 118:A lovely, comfortable room and bed, excellent shower, very good food. A good selection for breakfast. Very welcoming, friendly staff

Review 119:Steep staircase to our 3rd floor room. Limited choice of bar drinks.

Review 120:Good breakfast; comfortable room overlooking street at front. Parking off-road at rear of hotel. Pleasant restaurant, serving excellent food.

Review 121:The accommodation area was looking a bit shabby 'Wear & Tear'

Review 122:Very friendly & professional staff. Comfy room with nice bathroom. Nice breakfast Stow on the Wold is a delightful town. Many eating & drinking possibilities near by

Review 123:Dimly lit; maze of steep, windy stairs (difficult with a large bag); bedroom carpet was dirty and stained (badly in need of replacement), automatically made whole room feel really grimy. I couldn't wait to leave. Greatly overpriced (stayed at a much cheaper and vastly superior accommodation in Lower Slaughter the previous night).

Review 124:Free parking. Lady on reception on morning I checked out was very friendly.

Review 125:There was some confusion re. the booking as at first they thought we had only booked one room , when we arrived they had no record of my name only our guests even though it was booked by my e.mail but this was quickly sorted out and everything was fine .

Review 126:The room was clean bright and spacious , the staff were friendly and helpful

Review 127:We stayed a couple of weeks ago and found our room very pleasant and accesible. I have had a knee operation so found the trip up to the top of the house too demanding. Plus a four foot six inches bed!!! Surely we all expect at least a five foot Carpet not too clean.in bedroom.

Review 128:The nice girl inreception carried up our luggage without a request to do so.

Review 129:Bed, really soft and poor quality, pillow was a cheap piece of foam Breakfast looked nice, but poor waiter was on own with 20 guests, gave up after 45 mins wait to order hot food

Review 130:Location, reception staff

Review 131:We stayed last year for our Honeymoon and came back this year because it was so good. We were not let down, Food, Service and Room was great. Nice touches with card and champagne - would definately stay again

Review 132:Room surfaces covered in dust. Was not impressed told I had to sign to pay if I smoked in room. We are non smokers!.

Review 133:Well situated hotel in Stow. Ample parking good breakfast.
