Reviews for Hopbine House
Review 1:Extremely helpful and flexible - we were gong to a wedding - we phoned and asked if we could check in early - they made it possible for us (3 couples in 3 double rooms) to book in so that we could get changed etc AT 11am - THEY WERE RUSHING AROUND TO GET THE ROOMS READY FOR US AS WE ARRIVED. Delicious and hearty cooked breakfast. Lovely welcome.
Review 2:Spa bath and excellent breakfast, but a bit quirky: - no reception, access by 'phone then security keypad; large bedroom with four-poster bed minus even mock curtains; room lighting by ugly low-energy bulbs, two missing, without shades.
Review 3:No hot water either nights for a bath or shower. Breakfast was very poor compared to other b & b of same price in same area
Review 4:Location was great, good parking. Beds and rooms large and comfortable.
Review 5:Some minor issues with the shower, but sorted it out.
Review 6:Great place to stay for a couple of days. The landlady is awesome and super kind, would visit again.
Review 7:Could only get a trickle of hot water out of the shower head. Breakfast was generally OK and plentiful, with a good choice; but the water in the urns had gone warm - and the cup of tea was just lukewarm.
Review 8:The location was good, and there was plenty of parking
Review 9:No reception when we arrived, just a phone number to be given a key pad code. There was no local information in the rooms about local dining facilities. only a Beef Eater pub within walking distance.
Review 10:A very warm welcome from Doreen, always with a smile & a chat. Lovely white sheets, clean & tidy although a little dated. Lovely cooked breakfasts with plenty of choice. Thank you Doreen.
Review 11:The need to have a mobile 'phone to register arrival and thus gain access to the hotel. Poor maintenance of bathroom fittings (reported to staff).
Review 12:Comfortable with plenty of room for two.
Review 13:We were admitted to the property via a phone call at the front door giving us a code to open the door. There was no human contact until breakfast the following day. Breakfast had been pre cooked and kept warm. The room was dark and gloomy with black bed coverings and dull painted walls. Dark wood furniture added to this feeling of gloom. Generally shabby and worn.
Review 14:The bed was comfortable. Good gardens.
Review 15:When I arrived about 4.30pm on Fri 11th the front door was open but there was no one on reception. I rang the bell a few times but nobody appeared. I then phoned them & a lady answered telling me I was in room 5 & how to enter the room. I didn't actually see anyone until breakfast the next morning. The rooms were not cleaned & tea etc replenished on Saturday 12th & again there was no one on reception to tell.
Review 16:The breakfast was excellent & the bed comfortable.
Review 17:No one to greet you on arrival, bedroom was dusty, cobwebs etc. Damp patches on walls, Bathroom badly refurbished, dirty towels, water pressure so low shower was just a trickle. Linen had been washed in heavily scented powder so smelt awful
Review 18:Dark room, smelt dank, no opening windows except French doors onto public smoking area. Plain glass, had to keep curtains shut. Black furnishings and low ceiling, dark wood and brick. Could be better if lightened up and cleaned and aired. No proper welcome, entered using code given by phone and told key in the door. Breakfast served from a buffet (not very hot) not cooked to order but ok.
Review 19:Good sized car park. Fairly easy to drive into the centre of Hereford.
Review 20:ZERO welcome. Having to ring a bell for 10 minutes, then phone from outside and be told the code to enter and find your own room is not any level of hospitality. The smell of the house and some bedrooms
Review 21:Bedroom furnishings new and in good state but overall ambiance not pleasant. Breakfasts were fresh, plentiful and good.
Review 22:There wasn't much I didn't like about the place but there were some miner things such as the blind in the bathroom didn't work properly, the shower head wouldn't stay up and there was a hole in one of the lampshades, nothing major and nothing that affected my stay but just odd bits and bobs that just needed seeing to.
Review 23:The place had a very comfy cottage feel about it and looked quite posh but with a resabable price and in a good location with a ten to fifteen minute walk from town.
Review 24:We extended our stay, but only had one lot of tea and milk and were unable to get into the breakfast area to help ourselves to some more. The room wasn't cleaned on second day, nor the bed made. The bathroom needs attention, with a loose toilet seat, a heated towel rail held together with tape and a shower head that won't stay upright. And dead spiders in the bath are not an inducement to join them.
Review 25:The french doors onto a sunny terrace was a lovely place to sit and read. The large garden was a nice place to take a walk, although it is a shame a lot of the trees are dying. A good choice of cereals and fruit and beverages for breakfast.
Review 26:Staff where lovely and made you feel at home. Building is really nice. Like a home from home. Would definitely use again. Staff very cheery and nothing to much. Food was great and plenty of it. Lovely place.
Review 27:Wall mounted TV needs to be repositioned. Difficult to view unless lying on poster bed.
Review 28:Old world charm with large courtyard and rural atmosphere while still close to all amenities.
Review 29:poor service, no one to greet had to phone for room allocation. very cold rooms, no hot water for shower. shocking people skills. only spoke when wanted payment. not once asked if all ok....
Review 30:rooms were big bathrooms good size
Review 31:The wi-fi was VERY weak throughout the location. The scrambled eggs were microwaved.
Review 32:GREAT value for money. The staff were extremely helpful, pleasant and welcoming. The room was exceptional.
Review 33:danp dark poorly maintained room, minimal direct human contact. WiFi was poor not available in room. breakfast, everything present but poorly presented and unimaginative. Soggy bacon and sausages in hot buffet, tin mushrooms, tomatoes and backed beans. bread displayed in plastic bags for self toasting. requested 1 gluten free diet when booking but NO gluten free bread. one person in kitchen who cooked and took payment of bill. It was a cross between "The Bates Motel" and visiting the Marie Celeste.
Review 34:nothing
Review 35:The plumbing needs attention - we ran the hot water for up to 10 minutes in the shower, but never got any. The wifi signal was almost non-existent.
Review 36:Spacious room, more like a suite! Friendly, spacious staff. Quiet location.
Review 37:NO hot water or pressure for shower. Single bed in both our rooms was uncomfortable. No place to plug in hair dryer in bathroom so if you plugged it in elsewhere there was no mirror.
Review 38:Very pleasant staff. Breakfast was O.K. but the same every day; didn't find out until the last day that they would make eggs to order.
Review 39:No one there to welcome us. We had to ring a phone number and were told the door code. Didn't see anyone until the next day.shower fitting didn't work properly.
Review 40:Poor plumbing despite being refurbished recently: (1) Toilet seat loose (2) Shower head loose (3) Water pressure very poor (4) basin tap loose. No central heating - had to rely on electric heater
Review 41:Breakfast was excellent. 4- Poster bed very comfortable.
Review 42:The hot water didn't work. When we went to have a quick shower and the shower didn't work ( the bracket bit was broken). Wifi wasn't the best either. But I would still return
Review 43:The room was beautiful we stayed in room 6. With a 4 poster bed and double doors opening up on to veranda. Stunning property and gardens. Was really looking forward to a jacuzzi bath but ....
Review 44:It looks great on the web site. Our main complaint was about the cleanliness of the room - it wasn't clean at all. It was dusty and smelled musty. We couldn't get the shower to work properly and the room was very dark.
Review 45:The location was ideal for the wedding we were attending at nearby Lyde Court. There was plenty of parking.
Review 46:There was no-one to greet us on arrival and show us around. We had to call a number and be told our room number over the phone. Not a very welcoming start.
Review 47:Clean, comfortable room with a well appointed bathroom.
Review 48:when we arrived we have been told that the shower head holder was broken, that is it. The breakfast was on a buffet.
Review 49:it is a very nice house. If you are by car it's ok. 5 min to Hereford center. The lady is lovelly.
Review 50:Very accommodating hostess. Amazing room with four poster bed and en suite with spa bath. Fabulous cooked breakfast in delightful dining room . Can certainly recommend.
Review 51:Very pleasant and obliging staff Comfortable 4-poster bed Very good breakfast (these were the views of my friend Stuart Beardmore who stayed at Hopbine House - I stayed at the Three Horseshoes, Thruxton)
Review 52:When we arrived we were locked out despite having called to inform of late arrival, Called number on door - no response & waited 15 minutes. Went to another hotel who called and made contact with owner. We returned to apologies. Would not go back.
Review 53:Shower not very good. The low water pressure kept re-setting the shower lever. Downpipes outside noisy during rainfall.
Review 54:Our room (no.6) was spacious and comfortable and access to carpark was good. Staff very friendly. Breakfast excellent, including a good choice for my vegetarian wife.
Review 55:No one being there when we arrived. Had to phone to get a door code so we could get in. Grouting around the bath was horrible. Our ground floor room smelt musty
Review 56:The rooms were impressive, large and well furnished. Bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well. Breakfast was excellent and staff when we eventually met them were very friendly and helpful.
Review 57:Was in superior room but know where to sit apart from two converted single beds which I think were supposed to be sofas. Not sure this is a don't like or not just different. Arrived at 5.30pm didn't see anyone from the hotel until 08.45 next day at breakfast and that was the person cooking it. No request for payment had to ask the cook and she took payment, no registration really odd not bad just odd.
Review 58:Bed was clean and comfortable. WiFi connected but had to be redone each time.
Review 59:I did not like that the lighting in the room was poor not to mention that 2 bulbs were not working from the chandelier! The shower was not strong enough, I had great difficulty washing my hair as the flow of the water was just too slow! Great location from where I was working but I would never return there nor would I recommend this place!
Review 60:Could have done with a mirror in the room for make up, as the only one was in the bathroom. Toilet seat was a bit precarious, just needed some adjustments.
Review 61:Roomy space, 4 poster bed, spa bath, nice decor.
Review 62:Initially, although we had arranged to arrive early (between 2pm and 3pm) there was nobody there to greet us. But, after a quick phone call, the owner gave us the code for the door, room number and all was well. The wifi didn't work at all, I think there were major problems locally so not the fault of the b&b. The bathroom needs a little updating but was OK. Shower was above the bath but I don't remember there being a shower curtain/screen. We didn't use it.
Review 63:Bedroom was large with a very comfortable bed. Lady at breakfast went out of her way to ensure that we were happy with the breakfast - she cooked the poached eggs twice as she wasn't happy with the first ones (we got to eat both!). Coffee/tea- making facilities and biscuits were very welcoming.
Review 64:The wifi didn't work when we were in our room
Review 65:The jacuzzi bath. The comfy bed. The huge room. The breakfast was unbelievably good. Lots of parking. Peaceful sleep after a long haul flight.
Review 66:Bit odd having to phone someone to get the door code maybe this should be emailed in advance? Entrance is hard to see from the road, drove past 3 times before we spotted it.
Review 67:Beautiful building & garden, lovely room.
Review 68:The Reception. Nobody to greet us, waited over 15 minutes constantly ringing the bell. Eventually a couple more guests arrived and rang the telephone number on the reception door to find out our room numbers etc. Very Poor.
Review 69:Superb breakfast with plenty of choice. Excellent room with very comfortable bed for a good nights sleep. Excellent bathroom with a great whirlpool corner bath
Review 70:No reception, waited 10 minutes with no answer to bell, had to phone the hotel to get an answer. Was told over the phone which room I was in. I ver saw a member of staff until breakfast. I was greeted at breakfast by a sullen face telling me in no uncertain terms "if your after a cooked breakfast you are too early (07:15) so started a long business day with a cup of tea. Taps were loose in the bathroom, toilet seat loose. lighting was poor and the room smelt stale, fusty and damp.
Review 71:NOTHING! I couldn't wait to leave.
Review 72:Everything
Review 73:When I arrived I waited for 20 minutes for staff to come to me only to say they had no room for me. I booked this room in advance. Very unhappy
Review 74:A bit too much clutter felt like it needed a good spring clean . A bit noisey in the morning could hear early travellers leaving .... Could really do with a make over bathroom fittings old .
Review 75:Location and potential of this type of property . Great breakfast choices . Clean sheets comfy bed
Review 76:No one on duty when we arrived. Apparently not unusual according to other feedback. Was then shown a room that was not acceptable and then offered an alternative. There were good rooms in the premises. Money has been sent upgrading the plumbing but toilet seats and a tap need attention in the two rooms we saw.
Review 77:convenience if you had a car . We did not but were prepared for using taxis and buses to get to the centre of Hereford. Good breakfast and staff friendly
Review 78:No reception for 2 hours, guests had to let each other in. We got details of our room over the phone. Room very dark toilet and sink taps loose.
Review 79:Breakfast with helpful staff Bed comfortable Quiet surroundings Near town centre. Room clean
Review 80:We loved it as it was a garden room with patio doors and four poster bed so comfy!! The jacuzzi bath wasnt bad either!!!!! Doreen and staff were so pleasant and help yourself to breakfast buffet was a real good idea and cant wait to go back!!!!
Review 81:Room was not as advertised. No four poster bed or spa bath and very dark. Doors to garden were difficult to open, so in the end didn't use them. We were told on line we had a special price then found out we paid more than the others staying at hopbine house and they all had nicer rooms. No one to meet and greet and no welcoming abd personal.
Review 82:Large room with french doors. Friendly lady at breakfast.
Review 83:For a modest price I was treated to a four poster bed, spa bath and patio. I was comfortable and slept in peace. Breakfast was served with a smile at my convenience and was delightful. Staff and Doreen are very pleasant and when I come back to Hereford I will stay here again.
Review 84:No drinking glass in room. Tea in room not replenished. Some items for the Cooked breakfast not very warm. Had to wait on arrival for entry.
Review 85:Comfortable room. Doors onto garden.
Review 86:There was water dripping from a leak in the ceiling and the room smelt damp. Also a couple of light bulbs had "gone" and not be changed.
Review 87:Comfortable bed
Review 88:she wasn't there when we arrived at 3 45 pm had gone to the dentists!! we were told there would be toiletries but no shower gel. asked for this the next day as nobody around previous afternoon!! also asked for bath mat as floor very slippery. asked for a 2nd hand towel as well but we received nothing. no mirror in room and mirror in bathroom very poor. bad lighting!! husband could not see well to shave. going in for breakfast on 2nd day young girl spraying under her arms where eggs were to be cooked!!!! All in all very poor!!!
Review 89:breakfast ok owner pleasant enough but not there very often
Review 90:When we arrived at 3pm, there was no-one in Reception and we had to wait an hour to book in, missing the start of our family gathering. Also the room prices seemed to vary from £45 to £75 with similar facilities.
Review 91:Good location for our family gathering.
Review 92:Shoe-string economy - eg minimum milk on teatray, no shower cream. Breakfast - again, shoestring. Egg on toast was a SMALL egg on THIN toast, sure fresh cooked but hey! this is 21st c. I'd advised vegetarian re. cooked b'fast, but mushrooms were the only thing .......Had been looking forward to a decent cooked b'fast. A shame. Not inclined to recommend, as b'fast is a prime 'saver' when journeying.
Review 93:comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, dark outlook.
Review 94:Location is on Roman Road Hereford and traffic can be noisy until midnight - bring your ear plugs. In connection to decor and bathroom facilities, TV's 'Hotel Inspector' might have fun but all you really need top know is that they are very warm and friendly and, all in all, good value for money and plenty of parking space.
Review 95:Very friendly and welcoming owner and staff. Comfortable bed and filling breakfast. Plenty of parking space. There is a Co-op petrol station and store about half a mile away (first exit at roundabout towards town).
Review 96:Sign could have been at right angle to road or a triangle so could be more easily seen from the road.
Review 97:Very friendly and attentive staff who were very helpful and chatty. Lovely well kept grounds. Good hearty breakfast. Room and main building has wads of character. Would definately go back for another stay.
Review 98:Difficult to find fault - for us with no car, it was quite a distance from the city centre - but there is a bus service.
Review 99:The kindliness and personal touch in being welcomed together with the absolutely delightful room!
Review 100:Dark dingy rooms. Very loose power socket. Broken shower holder. Very noisy plumbing. Dangerous step in bathroom with totally inadequate lighting. Carpets filthy. In all whole property needs total revamp. Outside areas run down and poor.
Review 101:Nothing
Review 102:The room was rather dark and we couldn't get some of the lights to work. There was only one chair, although there was a 'bateau-lit' bed, but this was too high to sit on comfortably without teetering on the edge!
Review 103:The location was convenient for the city, but although on a main road, our room was quiet. There was an adequate supply of refreshments provided. The room was large, with a huge bed, which I found comfortable, but my wife found it too hard for her liking - she suffers with her back.. The breakfast was excellent, well-served and plentiful. I would recommend this B&B.
Review 104:Not easy to find in the dark on arrival, ok in daylight.
Review 105:Comfortable good value for money, excellent Breakfast .
Review 106:Breakfast could have included eggs and better service provided
Review 107:General ambience of rooms and facilities were good
Review 108:Web site says check in available from 12 but no one there till 5;30 pm
Review 109:large room with comfortable four poster bed. Good breakfast.
Review 110:The 4 poster bed and the large room And the large bath and bathroom
Review 111:Decor and furnishings a bit tired, shower not great
Review 112:Lovely lady owner, super-friendly and welcoming.
Review 113:Friendly staff Comfortable room Delicious breakfast Good parking
Review 114:good breakfast
Review 115:Friendly welcome, onsite parking, comfortable room great view of woodland.
Review 116:walls bit thin could here everything from next room
Review 117:room was lovely and patio doors opening up on to grounds
Review 118:The room was cold. Shower did not work properly.
Review 119:Not much.

Review 121:Nothing although road was a little noisy
Review 122:The room, the space, the furniture, the bed, the service
Review 123:Tried to have a bath and the water was cold
