Reviews for Papaevangelou Hotel

Review 1:Nothing!

Review 2:Giorgos and his wife are a fantastic team that provide great accommodation, a really delicious breakfast in one of the most beautiful spots in Greece...stunning mountain scenery in an unspoilt natural environment. Our trip around mainland greece ended here in Papingo and it was hard to beat!

Review 3:Parking is a bit difficult. The road up to the village could be a challenge in ice or snow. We didn't have a problem. Careful on the driveway up to the hotel.

Review 4:The cottages themselves were excellent. Unique, upscale, modern but with hints of the traditional. The staff were very gracious and accommodating. The breakfast was second to none. Everything one could want: Fresh local yogurt, toast, meat, cereal, sweet cake, juice, coffee etc. All served in a cozy fire lit cabin dining area bar. Location was very very convenient close to the village yet also close to hiking trails.

Review 5:Wifi was rather unstable and slow. This is the only complaint really.

Review 6:Besides the fantastic mountain views and lovely rooms, the hospitality and friendliness of the owners and staff are superb. We are already looking forward to coming back.

Review 7:Our stay at the Papaevangelou Hotel, during a four-day hiking trip in early November, left us with the best of impressions. Situated at the far end of Papigo village, with a fabulous view over the mountains, the hotel has the cozy atmosphere of a traditional guesthouse. Our room was comfortable, spacious, very clean and tastefully decorated – the entire hotel has been built in accordance with traditional local architecture. The owner, George, was very friendly and eager to provide us with information and tips about activities and points of interest in the broader area of the Epirus region. Breakfast is not to be missed: the alternating variety of homemade local delicacies, ranging from different kinds of jams and marmalade, cakes, savory pies, local cheese and ham, were the perfect way to start the day, before heading off to explore the nearby mountains.

Review 8:A very pleasant stay at this wonderful traditional fully equipped apartment, with a spectacular view towards Astraka mountains. George, a very pleasant nice and warm apartments' owner, is always available to guide you for your walks around the Zagori area and to serve you the local drink "tsipouro", which you have to try. Our stay there fulfilled our expectations and even more.

Review 9:amazing. Jorgas received us like we were long lost cousins with open and warmest arms. seems like he never sleeps. always there to take care of you. it is the home away from home. definitely will be back

Review 10:It is a real nice and cosy location. Authenitc design and a great place with great view. Wonderful breakfast ! Family and kids loved it! And the owner was one of the friendliest hosts I have ever met on my trips.

Review 11:It was quite hot in the room without air conditioning. The walls in the room were dirty :( WIFI was extremely slow.

Review 12:The location and the village and the view are unique. The host is very friendly!

Review 13:The villa does not have a separate room which makes privacy an issue. Would recommend the villa only for a family and not for couples.

Review 14:Owners are very welcoming and breakfast was simple but great.

Review 15:Beautifully located, lovingly restored hotel. The staff, especially George the owner, were a deltight. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is located in the small mountain village of Papigo. It is s suberb part of the country and the hotel was perfect in almost every respect. I did not want to leave. Magic.

Review 16:It can be a bit dicey getting a car up into and out of the hotel driveway, which is rather steep and rough-surfaced.

Review 17:We especially liked the hotel's setting, and its genuinely friendly owner/operator, Giorgos.

Review 18:Lovely hotel in a beautiful spot. Friendly helpful owner. Amazing breakfast. What more could you ask for. The restaurant next to the hotel was lovely too. We ate there both nights of our stay.

Review 19:We traveled Greece for 3 weeks and this is with out any debt the best place we stayed in. We arricved at noon after long drive Yorgus the owner help us to setup in our room and immediately explained us everything we need to know on the area in the morning we had the best homey breakfast we had in Greece and after the breakfast we sat with Yorgus to plan the day When we ran out of diapers for our baby (no diapers to buy in Papigo) he called his friend how were down town in the big city to buy for us We really recommand this place and so our little kids (5,3) who became friends of Yorgus

Review 20:The hotel is at the top of the mountain in an amazing location, Clean rooms, excellent breakfast. George the owner is one of the most charming people we met. It is highly recommended to arrive

Review 21:It was all great, thanks to Giorgos and his wife. -We were lucky to be travelling off-season, so we had our pick of upstairs double rooms and we took one with a lovely view in two directions. -Everything in the rooms is planned with care and we were very comfortable. -Giorgos gave us great advice for two hikes that were challenging, but within our abilities (fit-sixty-somethings) and only a few hours each. -The breakfast is wonderful and healthy. We had delicious strawberries each day. Giorgos was even willing to provide hot chocolate with our cappucinos so we could have mochachinos. -We traveled in Greece for 40 days, and this was one or our top 5 stays.

Review 22:I cannot think about a single thing i would change. Breakfast is a must ( you won't believe what they will prepare for you) and everyone is so nice!!

Review 23:the wifi didn't work well, this was meant to be fixed.

Review 24:The hotel is located in the most beautiful village in Zagori close to several cafe's and restaurants. The rooms are cozy and beautiful. The breakfast is delicious and fresh. and George the host, is to nice to be true.

Review 25:Wifi connection was bad but hopefully it is a short term problems due to some changes.

Review 26:Mr. George and his wife made our stay really comfortable. He gave us lots of pieces of advice on where to go, what to see, and what kind of traditional dishes to try. The breakfast was really rich incl. homemade marmelades. I highly recommend this place!

Review 27:Our studio was beautiful, spacious, clean and very well decorated. The atmosphere was in harmony with the external environment and the stuff was very helpful and kind and they provided us all the information for the village and the surroundings. The breakfast was excellent with various traditional products. The owner is very friendly and he makes sure you have a great stay. This hotel deserves a 10.

Review 28:Nothing. Everything were perfect!!!! Thank you Giorgos for your great hospitality!

Review 29:The hospitality of Giorgos and his family, the romantic and cozy rooms, the beautiful view of the mountains, the rich and healthy breakfast....an experience you should not miss!!! One of the best places we have been....

Review 30:Nothing.

Review 31:We absolutely loved this beautiful hotel: our fabulous studio, the stunning location, the helpful staff, the wonderful breakfasts with occasional little treats made by Giorgos's mother, and of course Giorgos himself, the charismatic owner who runs the hotel with huge charm and seemingly effortless efficiency. He would always make time to have a chat and nothing was ever too much trouble. We would have loved to stay longer in this mountain paradise and will definitely return as soon as we can.

Review 32:An excellent stay in an excellent little town. We loved everything about it. The place is great, breakfats was great, our room was really nicely decorated, but the real difference comes from the owner, George. George gave us such a warm welcome from the first minute we arrived and made us really feel like guests in his house. Papigo is also a fantastic place, and vicos george and the views are amazing. I will definitely recomment this place to everyone.

Review 33:-Nothing. Just to get back again.

Review 34:- George's great service and hospitality in all aspects. -Beautiful and quiet hotel just below Gamila rocks -Very good facilities -The superior room is very large and charming -Good breakfast -Very good value

Review 36:location is unique, owners are soo gently, rooms are perfect, breakfast very satisfying, the village is like to be in the paste centuries ( no any noise, no new buildings, no one electric banner !!!)

Review 37:Papigno is the most magical village in the Zagori and Papaevangelou Hotel is a gem within that. The rooms are beautifully designed and comfortable, the morning breakfast on the terrace overlooking the mountains is very special, and the owner is incredibly friendly. We highly recommend it!

Review 38:It is easy to be disappointed when the expectations are so high, but we were happy to discover that all the great reviews were true, so no need to repeat them. Giorgos and his wife were the architects and designers of the hotel and they created one of the best examples of traditional architecture that respects both the environment and the people living in them. We will come again.

Review 39:Nothing..

Review 40:The great, honest hospitality of Giorgos, the owners, was beyond remarkable. His willingness to help us with all was one of a kind. On top of it- the rooms' cleanliness and design, the great breakfasts, beautiful views and the lovely nature of the Papigo village and people indeed has made our time there unforgettable. We enjoyed every minute!

Review 42:George and his wife, the views, the village, river rafting, being in this magical place

Review 43:The winding road that leads to Papingo is breathtaking, the village picturesque, the hotel wonderful. The owner, George, is a bundle of enthusiastic welcome- he is extremely knowledgeable about the area and enjoys sharing his knowledge. He and his are so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was amazing. There are little tables outside where you can sit and take in the surounding beauty. Our rooms were spacious, comfortable, beautiful and very much in tune with the surrounding nature. We had a gorgeous view from our shower right into the gorge. WOW! My girls, aged 13 and 19, couldn't stop raving about the hotel and George- this was their vary favorite place we visited and we were all so very sorry to leave.

Review 44:The drive up to Papingo is breathaking. Papaevangelo is at the very end and is gorgeous! , George, was charming, enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. My girls, aged 13 and 19, adored him and cannot stop raving about him and the hotel. He was so helpful, so generous and so nice-- it added an extra glow of pleasure to our stay. The place itself is delightful. The rooms are airy, clean and comfortable. The breakfast delicious. The Vikos park magnificent (do the rafting in the gorge-- it's great)-- we had a huge window looking out into the gorge from our shower! All I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW!!!!

Review 45:that we stayed only 2 days in the area and zagori needs at least 5 days. It was not easy to leave this paradise behind thanks Giorgos and Markella

Review 70:Beautiful. Friendly. A treat.

Review 71:best part of our vacation. beautiful place, clean, comfortable, excellent location George is so welcoming, I wish we could stay longer...

Review 72:The wifi is intermittent but this is probably because the hotel is in a remote mountainous area.

Review 73:The hotel has wonderful mountain views and is a collection of stone buildings with lots of colourful planting. We stayed in a studio which was very spacious and comfortable. The hotel owner was outstandingly helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delicious with home-made jams, cake and rice pudding. We liked the remoteness of the village which is very well positioned for some challenging walking.

Review 74:As the local young man whom I asked for directions said: "Ah, you've picked the best one." It is at the end of the village but worth the trip as George is a welcoming and knowledgeable host who has constructed the striking buildings in traditional Zagori style/architecture. The room was spacious and comfortable and the views or the area superb and breakfast was a treat with several homemade items. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 75:that we need to ended the vacation

Review 76:George is a wonderful host it's location is fantastic and allows trekking ,rafting &horseback riding for youngs, families and those seeking a relaxing holiday tours & nice villages

Review 77:Nothing serious to mention. Maybe wifi could be better, and access to parking was a bit challenging for my Jag (not the best car for mountains).

Review 78:George, the host, was great; Excellent quality breakfast; Nicely decorated room; comfortable bed; actually, we liked everything

Review 79:This hotel is ideally situated with some of the most stunning vistas in the Vikos Gorge! We visited in the springtime and were rewarded with flowering trees and cool temperatures: ideal conditions for hiking. After exerting ourselves on the trail, Papaevangelou's generous and comfortable bedding felt even more luxurious. We also loved the made-to-order breakfast and friendly service. The trip to Vikos Gorge was the highlight of our Greek vacation!

Review 80:We arrived at night time, and the actual plcae inside the village was hard to find. Not enough indicating signs. In the room, bath tube lacked a curtain...

Review 81:Unique village style htoel, very beautiful, comfortable, quite, all new facilities. Owners (Jorgos and his wife) are super welcoming and friendly. Great breakfast. Amazing surrounding and view. Recommended!!!

Review 82:No curtain in the bathroom

Review 83:The Papaevangelou Hotel is nothing short of amazing. It is located at the very end of Megalo-Papigko village, with breathtaking views of Mikro-Papigko and the overlooking Astraka Cliffs. We stayed there for 5 nights at the end of March a week after a stormy weather in the region, but luckily the weather was perfect, and the scenery breathtaking and inspiring. Astraka cliffs were covered with snow, as well as the peaks of the surrounding mountains.Giorgos, the owners, was very friednly and welcoming, always offering advice and help. We reserved a twin-room, but were upgraded to the Studio - which was fantastic, since it is spacious and very nicely decorated and lit. It has all you need, including a kitchenette, a dining area and a couch, and also a small collection of books and DVDs (ideal if you're travelling with kids)! The studio was kept very clean and warm, and its windows overlook the beautiful scenery. The breakfast really stands out as being one of the best we've ever had (after travelling throughout the whole of mainland Greece): Giorgos goes out of his way to please his guests, including freshly squeezed grapefruit and oranges juice, freshly brewed coffee and tea, delicious local cheeses and breads, and - above all - home-made marmalades, which are very unique and exquisite - don't miss out on a chance to taste all of the different marmalades Giorgos' mother prepares. If you're lucky, you may even get a chance to have some delicious home-made bougatsa (sweet-cheese pie) that was freshly baked by Giorgos' mother :-)If you're travelling with a car, be prepared for a little bumpy ride on the way to the premises as it passes through Papigko village, whose roads are cobbled (as are all the roads in the traditional villages of Zagori), and be sure to have manual transmission (the last bit is a steep uphill ride).

Review 84:Only the fact that you have to book quite early if you wish to reserve a room for high season!

Review 85:The view from the hotel is breathtaking. The staff is friendly and very welcome.

Review 86:Perfect location, with a breathtaking view of the mountains. The host, George Papaevangelou, is ever present, charming and smiling making you feel completely at home and among friends. Ideal spot to explore the wealth of great places near by - from picturesque stone bridges over crystal clear rivers to the tasty cuisine and home made rakia of the zagoria.

Review 87:Located uphill at the end of the village. Access is not easy. From the entrance of the village keep going forward untill you find a sign directing to the hotel.

Review 88:Super friendly owner will make you feel at home! Good breakfast, good wifi, Beautiful garden. A great place!

Review 89:NONE

Review 90:Beatifull flawless rooms, design with wood and rocks. Nice dvd collection to watch at the end of the day. A great staff that will give you all the information about hiking trails, resturants or just relaxing. The hotel manger is a lovley person that will help you with any trouble you have. IF YOU R IN PAPINGO YOU MUST GO THERE!!!

Review 91:We had a perfect retreat at Papaevangelou hotel, one of the most breathtaking places I know. The natural beauty together with the warm welcome created an unforgettable vacation. It's secluded and peaceful, and George makes the best coffee in Greece! Every detail was taking care of, and george creates a personal and intimate atmosphere.

Review 92:Absolutely nothing!

Review 93:Giorgos is one of the kindest people we've met during our trip so far. Warm harted, generous, always with a word of advise and knows everything about the area. The place itself is absolutely charming. Full of character, lovely rooms and amazing view. We have only good things to say and recommend you to visit!

Review 94:Incredible mountain views, spacious & exceptional furnished rooms, quiet and peaceful area, clean, comfortable, very friendly owner, best breakfast in epirus.

Review 95:There is absolutely nothing wrong about this place!

Review 96:The best place to stay while visiting Zagoria!!! Driving up to Papigko in the long and winding road is a small price to pay for staying in this amazing place. The lovely rooms are specious, well equiped and well maintained. The view is terrific! Breakfast is splendid, rich, hearty and tasty. Iorgos (George), the owner, is the most friendly and smily person. We stayed here for 3 days and enjoyed every minute! Don't miss the opportunity to pamper yourself...
