Reviews for Seckford Hall Hotel & Restaurant

Review 1:Nothing really. If I was to be picky I'd say certain things in the room were a little tired (carpet) and shower in the room was lacking pressure but small things that really wouldn't put me off.

Review 2:Staff were all so wonderful. From check in, right through our stay, in both the hotel and the spa we were so impressed by the attitude and helpful nature of the entire team.

Review 3:The lounge and bar areas were sooo hot and the key fob was plastic. Not the end of the world but could look better.

Review 4:The lounge areas were comfortable, cosy and staff very attentive. The Swimming pool temperature was perfect for a leisurely swim and the Spa area was contemporary with friendly staff.

Review 5:Staff service from front desk to restaurant was terrible, no one seemed to be in charge or organising anyone. Conplete disaster to be honest.

Review 6:The room was lovely and the spa staff very friendly.

Review 7:Getting woken up at 3am on a Sunday morning by a faulty fire alarm..and again at 8am and again at 8.30am. Breakfast service very slow due to lack of staff.

Review 8:Friendly staff. Excellent food in the restaurant. Comfortable bed. Nice spa facilities.

Review 9:Cleaners not reading the do not distrub sign, too eager to do the cleaning on leaving.

Review 10:Feeling away from the rat race, feeling relaxed.Beautiful setting.

Review 11:Spent two nights awake most of both nights due to our radiator making really loud noises. Wardrobe was small for two people and the right hand door would not open due to the door having had fitted a auto closer. Very poor for a hotel of this price range.

Review 12:The staff in the restaurant and bar. Not reception.

Review 13:Very disorganised check-in. Bedroom had not been cleaned properly, discarded biscuit wrappers, confetti on floor. Hairs around the bath and sink. No staff about when we arrived for breakfast so found our own table then told it was reserved (not many guests staying) and we were left to find another table. Waited 20 minutes before waitress arrived. Fresh fruit bowl empty. Staff seemed keen to clear tables and finish their shift. Wrote to hotel manager about our disappointing experience but manager hasn't bothered to write back.

Review 14:Location and setting lovely.

Review 15:Staff in breakfast hall slow to react to requests. Previous guests' comment card left in our room showed that the guests next door complained to them about a noisy extractor fan. We had this issue too.

Review 16:Gorgeous location. Grown up and relaxing. Wonderful interior

Review 17:Not bad but the food menu was the same everyday and some of the combinations didn't work very well. Dress code of the staff was a bit slack as was some of the serving technique. But these were minor points overall

Review 18:Facilities, location and friendliness of staff were all excellent

Review 19:Our room (Room 25) wsa supposedly a superior room with a comfortable seating area. This clearly wasn't so but reception refused to consider changing our room. There was a very low armchair and a chair to the dressing table. This needed new supports underneath and neither chair was comfortable. Looking at the floorplan our room was clearly much smaller in size to all the other rooms on the first floor. No lift obviously as a listed building. Booking stated a balcony but there only seemed to be one on the hotel and it wasn't our room. We had to go down to the lobby to relax and read the newspapers. Wi-fi was very variable.

Review 20:We liked the food although it was expensive and we hate the "arty" presentation. Does anyone really enjoy eating off of slate anymore? Staff were friendly and helpful. The Spa facilities were excellent (they reopened after refurb the day we arrived) Parking was nver a problem on site.

Review 21:Although we had a lovely stay and a nice meal in the resturant we were disappointed to see foie gras on the menu. We strongly disagree with the way this is made and would not normally eat at a restaurant that is happy to serve this. The Courtyard room: you can easily hear guests talking and walking around in the room above (arrived at midnight) and cars passing on the gravel just outside is very loud and did wake us up around 11.30pm and 6am (staff leaving/arriving maybe). Afternoon tea had stale bread and cakes.

Review 22:Spa and pool facilities were perfect and we very much enjoyed our spa treatments. Grounds were gorgeous with cosy seating areas inside. Courtyard room decoration was lovely with lovely bathroom facilities and shower.

Review 23:Total lack of visible management . We've lived in East Anglia for many years and visited the hotel for meals many times under previous management. This time we stayed and had a suite in the new block which was tasteless, cheap and basic. Current owners seem to be trading on history and location rather than quality and value for money.

Review 24:Staff charming and restaurant excellent.

Review 25:Appalling staff, apart from chambermaids. Apparently untrained, unsupervised, ponderous, clueless without any attention to detail.

Review 26:Magnificent old building with great ambience, warm, cosy and comfortable.

Review 27:It was very quiet in the Resturant, some low ambient music would have been nice as at times it was too quiet it was uncomfortable. Staff appeared stretched at times to cover the geographical layout of the facilities that were lovely

Review 28:The option of accessing a pool and spa facilities in close proximity. The staff at the spa were excellent

Review 29:Room safe had no instructions despite receptionist's insistence that instructions WERE on the door. No offer to help us use safe. Light on bathroom mirror broken. Side table leaning to side following bad repair.

Review 30:Lovely old public rooms with great characterer. Excellent breakfast. Spa is lovely and recently refurbished. Reasonable value for money.

Review 31:Room was far too hot and couldn't cool the room down. Due to the age of the building air conditioning is not available. Room seemed basic for the price paid I would have expected more. Smokers corner seemed o be outside my room.

Review 32:Food was excellent

Review 33:The breakfast was very poor, Sunday breakfast was not good, over salted and very late coming to the table. However, the staff did apologise. Needs improvement, not enough staff.

Review 34:The room and facilities were excellent. The swimming pool needs advertising though. Mid

Review 35:Attention to detail a little slack in the room we stayed in. Dusty doors, large cracks in plaster, damaged wall light and bathroom silicone in bathroom needs addressing

Review 36:Peacefull and relaxed surroundings Friendly and helpful staff

Review 37:Our room was a bit close to loud air-conditioning fans near the kitchen. Breakfast should have been included in room price.

Review 38:Beautiful grounds and a nice room in a lovely old building.

Review 39:Being telephoned the day before our arrival to say they had not read our booking details regarding us bringing our dog and therefore had no dog friendly rooms for us to stay for the confirmed 4 nights However booking.com tel. the hotel and thankfully managed to secure dog friendly room for 3 nights. Reception staff were young unprofessional and not bothered by their mistake.

Review 40:Beautiful location with lovely walks across golf course

Review 41:staff in the restaurant. For breakfast I had a poached egg which wasn't cooked and yet ended up not having any breakfast because I couldn't get anyone to help. There were a lot of disgruntled people waiting for tables and coffee/tea

Review 42:The hotel is stunning. Beautiful grounds and rooms. Beds are very comfortable.

Review 43:Indifferent service in restaurant, general cleanliness poor window sills and dining room tables not wiped down. Came back at 12.15 one night and couldn"t get in, took 20 mins to make night porter hear.

Review 44:Beautiful old place, lots of lounges, 4 poster bed, lovely grounds and spa

Review 45:Unfortunately the toilet hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests. An oversight I'm sure but not very nice. Also, although the room was very comfortable especially the bed, there was no shower, only a hand held one. Although, to be fair, the website did mention some rooms didn't have showers.

Review 46:The ambience of this beautiful Tudor building was very relaxing and enjoyable. The swimming pool and changing rooms were way above expectations. The food was excellent especially the quality of the breakfast ingredients.

Review 47:Room had very low ceiling and the door to the bathroom was about 150 cm and you could not shower standing up. Service in restaurant very slow.

Review 48:Very nice location. Quiet Good food Good internet

Review 49:Breakfast was expensive for what was on offer although saying that there was plenty there, in busy times staff struggled to cope it I think this was a management problem and not the staff fault,

Review 50:The setting and layout of the rooms. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff which made a very enjoyable stay.

Review 51:Service in restaurants was dreadfully slow, staff not proactive in monitoring tables and needs of customer. Breakfast we had to ask about 10 times for different items which should be provided or how long before the toast arrives etc. this let down an altogether lovely hotel and great staff in other areas.

Review 52:Beautiful buildings, well maintained. Reception and spa staff very attentive.

Review 53:Not very accessible for disabled guests due to the age of the building, uneven floors etc. but there is nothing they would be able to do about that!

Review 54:Beautiful rooms, very old and quaint. A real taste of English gentry. Gorgeous setting.

Review 55:The room we had was small and tired looking, bed in an alcove with almost no room at the sides to get out, shower very slow. Service at breakfast was poor, we waited over an hour and then were not told that some of the full english breakfast items were not available, they just served it hoping we would not notice

Review 56:Location and grounds are perfect although small lake needs cleaning, the water was disgusting

Review 57:We paid for superior room, which was over the kitchen, lots of noise late pm and early am, plus cooking odours. Don't book room 6

Review 58:The spa, fantastic facility, open at 7am until late, beautiful setting, friendly staff.

Review 59:Disappointed with our room. We booked late and got "horrid number one" bedroom, overlooking flat roof and car park. The room was clean and presentable but tired and needed updating.Reception staff could have been more welcoming.

Review 60:The attractive old worldy type hotel, with delightful gardens and area to sit outside. Excellent food in restaurant. The young manager did everything he could to be helpful.

Review 61:Arrived as a family were having tea and cakes. The dirty crockery still hadn't been removed at 9 pm. Otherwise a very pleasant stay.

Review 62:Seckford Hall is in a beautiful setting, the grounds are well maintained and there are lots of places to sit and relax. Highly recommend room 24 as it over looks the lake.

Review 63:Young waiters in restaurant who were not properly trained to serve or understand the menu and how to pour wine at dinner. Not their fault but the management. Breakfast staff were super.

Review 64:Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 65:At this room price would like to see better in-room coffee service e.g. Nespresso not instant sachet. Heavy wooden Venetian blinds on windows provide poor black-out and make opening windows for ventilation very difficult. No "History of Seckford Hall" or hotel information in the bedroom. (Apparently an omission since they are available.)

Review 66:Quality of food at both dinner and breakfast. Cleanliness of room. Staff all friendly and helpful. Outside tables and grounds really good. Lots of pleasant lounge space. Beautiful building and ambience.

Review 67:What I didn't like was the administration error causing us to book an alternative venue and then to be offered an upgrade the day before. All very nice I'm sure, if I hadn't had to find somewhere else that wouldn't accept a cancellation at such short notice. Thanks!!

Review 68:I am sure that it is a very lovely place. Sadly due to an administration error our stay never actually happened.

Review 69:Extremely comfortable. Superb full English Breakfast in the widest sense...we observed some French guests photographing their neighbour'splate, before ordering a similar breakfast themselves...which they wereunable to finish. Delightful and helpful staff. It was nice to find ahotel which for once did not stint on the quality of the loo paper!Small details such as these are noticed.

Review 70:Not enough staff, no tables cleared for us to sit and have afternoon tea. 10 tables outside, most empty but all covered in used crockery. No staff at the pool. Had to scout around to find towels. Loads of used towels littering the pool surroundings.

Review 71:Lovely building, staff polite

Review 72:I'm a born and bred Suffolk girl and my family lived in the adjoining village of Little Bealings for 30+ years. Seckford Hall was always an incredible looking property but as we lived so close at the time, staying there was never a necessity. When my family moved going back to visit friends was always very important and this hotel has become invaluable to these visits. Don't be put off by the grandeur because within it's walls is one of the most comfortable and homely places to stay. Staff are exceptionally helpful, food is good and the grounds are stunning. Definitely worth using the pool whilst you stay here as it's just perfectly refreshing and relaxing. First class hotel which is now my home away from home

Review 73:Was expecting the spa to have been opened by our visit but unfortunatley was not

Review 74:Loved the setting of the Hotel, beautiful grounds, quite and relaxing.

Review 75:swimming pool shut for refurbishment full english breakfast excellent value, however asked for poached eggs and mushroom and got one egg and one chopped mushroom very nice but could have gone to 2 of each

Review 76:the grounds are amazing dinner excellent very friendly

Review 77:My room was very dirty, the carpet was filthy, the pillows smelt of sweat, there were other people's hair in the bath, a dead fly floating in the toilet. I stayed two nights, housekeeping removed the soap from my room and didn't replace it, they also left very damp towels in the room. Overall it was disgusting.

Review 78:You can not find them on your SAT NAV as it leads you to a dead end a mile away.

Review 79:Lovely period hotel. Great evening meal and perfect breakfast Will stay their again

Review 80:Although nice the carpets in the room could do with replacing The room was quite small

Review 81:The staff were very helpful and friendly The hotel was lovely and clean The restaurant was excellent

Review 82:Leaving!!

Review 83:Ooohhhh Wow! The grounds are lovely and so well kept! The hotel itself, almost as many lounges as there are rooms, it's more like a stately home than a hotel. If you don't like this place there is something wrong with you!!

Review 84:One receptionist on phone when arrived, had to wait to check in. Lovely suite, TV in bathroom but not bedroom ! (strange)

Review 85:Excellent room, lovely setting, good food, pleasant staff, will definately visit again.

Review 86:The first point is call is the receptionist on the front desk. Unfortunately, she was disinterested, writing something on the desk at the same time as talking to me. She failed to give me my room number, just directing me up the stairs. And it was a bad start. However, everything else made up for it.

Review 87:The food is excellent. The chef should be given credit for it. The building is charming. The grounds are beautiful and well kept.

Review 88:£115 for room only seemed expensive given that there was no pool or jacuzzi at the moment, and all the building materials were stored outside at the front of our studio room.

Review 89:Restaurant, lovely studio room, location. We have had lots of good stays here.

Review 90:Booked a superior room with balcony with Booking.com. Offered a standard room without balcony on arrival. Helpful reception managed to find us a room with a balcony (albeit a standard room). Not impressed with Booking.com !!!

Review 91:Ambiance of hotel, service and quality of room.

Review 92:Tired furnishings and poor garden management - extensive grounds in poor condition. Cramped reception area and downstairs especially during busy periods. Rooms expensive considering facilities.

Review 93:Location

Review 94:I found nothing to dislike but some aspects of the hotel will need updating soon

Review 95:It is a character building in a very attractive setting very handy for Woodbridge. The staff were very attentive and helpful

Review 96:On booking site it did not state that the wellness centre was closed for refurb which was disappointing! The hotel postcode takes you to the wrong place, I am not the only one who got lost!

Review 97:Staff were realty friendly and efficient, grounds outside were lovely.

Review 98:Having to leave.

Review 99:We liked the overall feel of the Hotel, everyone we met was polite & friendly nothing was too much trouble, the room was well appointed with a view across the front & side gardens. The evening meal was exceptional, all food choices were cooked to perfection, the presentation of the food was very good, the waiting staff were very professional & well trained. Well done to all staff, we will certainly stay again.

Review 100:The single bedroom that I was allocated (15) is in serious need of upgrading. The bathroom was modern and functional. The bedroom was shabby,u comfortable small armchair, mismatched furniture. The small wardrobe door had a magnetic catch that didn't work.

Review 101:Great location, friendly efficient staff, impressive interior public rooms, good food

Review 102:A warm welcome on our arrival. We were given cottage in courtyard which has been refurbished. Comfortable, tastful,& warm. Service, food & setting could not fault. Would definitely stay again.

Review 103:Sadly the pool was closed for refurbishment.

Review 104:Staff very helpful. Comfy beds with thick downy matress toppers. Lovely old building and pretty grounds. Dinner was excellent.

Review 105:Food - amazing - lovely full English breakfast and good evening meal. Bed - large and comfy - we stayed in the coach house. House and gardens superb - beautiful and well kept

Review 106:The floor of the restaurant (too modern) and the newer bits of the building. It would have been better to keep the theme of solid, waxed wooden floorboards.

Review 107:Stunning building, particularly the Great Hall. The grounds were beautiful too. We particularly liked the sympathetic furnishings and that the building had NOT been overly modernised or made perfectly but blandly functional. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was excellent.

Review 108:Evening meal was not to the standard that would elevate the hotel. Mash potato very salty. Duck tough. We had 3 cold puddings ..all very sweet and almost inedible . Service very friendly. You need to sort this!

Review 109:The room and view

Review 110:No info about the history of the building, lots of traffic noise for a 'country' house hotel.

Review 111:Friendly staff, amazing building and grounds, wonderful bed in huge room (no. 24), delicious dinner.

Review 112:Exceeded my expectations... you can tell that it is not owned and run by a large company. I like the attention to detail..wi-fi that you could just log straight on to without passwords etc..quality toiletries that are so much nicer to use and well worth the few pence per unit extra cost..and nice quality period furniture wherever you looked..

Review 113:The only minor issue was the fact that the bathroom floor got a bit flooded once the shower had been on a while due to the way the spray bounced.

Review 114:Nice room, comfortable bed, nice views, nice staff, amazing (if pricey) food.

Review 115:Lukewarm hot water in the morning (wash basin), and the need to be a contortionist when taking a shower given that there's no curtain/screen..! (room 18)

Review 116:General all-round experience, especially customer service levels, and an excellent breakfast to kick-off the day

Review 117:Mediocre presentation of bar meals and drinks. Service for hotel guests suffered when a large function was also being catered for. Lack of any explanation/apology for false fire alarm and failure to respond to telephone call to 0 and 240 to report.

Review 118:The friendly staff. The superb location and historic character of Seckford Hall. The recognition of our Golden Wedding by staff and the unexpected presentation of a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate.

Review 119:Wasn't really a bad experience and this is really being picky but could have done with some butter for the toast at breakfast and some baked beans but as I said that's being really picky about things.

Review 120:Everything was perfect to be honest, really friendly helpful staff. The location was idyllic, a lovely old building with tranquil gardens, nice sized room with a comfy bed and good facilities.

Review 121:the chef ordered two fillet steaks for us and cooked them even though they were not on the menu after requesting them 24 hours in advance .He also had a wedding party to contend with

Review 122:Sorry the pool was closed. Didn't much like the purple leather in the bar!, but was difficult to dislike anything!

Review 123:The house, the decor, the beautiful well kept gardens. The friendly staff

Review 124:Shower in the room was more of a dribble than a shower but did the job in the end. But in the overall scheme just a minor point from a lovely weekend break. Thanks.

Review 125:Staff very friendly, room reasonable size but very clean. Restaurant and bar staff were very helpful and efficient, as were the receptionists. Lovely peaceful surroundings and even though there was a wedding on when we were couldn't hear any of the celebrations.

Review 126:Poor quality of pillows ( had mine changed ) duvet rather worn. Swimming pool closed - will be great when open again.

Review 127:We liked our courtroom suite, it was light, fresh and modern, beautiful soft carpet ( we removed our shoes) So quiet, no doors banging, creaking floors or other guests talking. Lovely thick white towels, dressing gowns and nice bathroom cosmetics. Bottled water in room daily.

Review 128:Water pressure for the shower not working properly. There wasn't a lift which we were not aware off. We had big bags as we were from overseas n in UK for 2 weeks. So had to repack bags to cabin size type as stairs were also narrow n we were on the top floor. Luckily we have a rented car to store our big bags.

Review 129:Staff friendly but unable to solve the shower problem

Review 130:nothing immediately nearby but lots of interest nearby eg Woodbridge only a couple of miles away

Review 131:- history of the place - the Tudor Room bedroom with its 500 year old 4 poster bed a real gem if you like history & a romantic setting. Perfect for our Anniversary - grounds & lake - peaceful

Review 132:The spa closed for refurbishment but I'm sure it will be amazing when it is open again

Review 133:The staff everything was quite unimaginable brilliant looking forward to returning soon

Review 134:We were shown to the wrong room and later in the day had to pack up our belongings and transfer to another room (a better room) but this was very inconvenient and should not have happened in a hotel of this calibre..

Review 135:The hotel is in lovely grounds and the rooms are extremely well presented

Review 136:The the evening menu was extremely expensive, and the choice very limited. We were woken up at 6.30 to the sound off women talking & giggling loudly outside our room! We thought there must have been an early morning conference going on next door or something, but when we opened the door to look, it was the chamber maids!! I mentioned it to the receptionist when we checked out and she apologised.

Review 137:The location and the wonderful character of the historic building.

Review 138:Pool and gym was being refurbished but I was assured it said so on the website. Booking.com could have made it clearer, not the hotels fault.

Review 139:Staff were very accommodating. Heating was stuck on in my single room. No effort to move me into an alternative room.

Review 140:Lack of lift. Lack of traditional English food in keeping with house. Chef's menu ideas were OTT.

Review 141:Peacefull Tudor House. Clean and comfortable room. Easy car parking.Good continental breakfast.

Review 142:Menu does not change for dinner - no good if you are there for more than 2 nights! Bar menu good but limited.

Review 143:Grounds, building, dinner, staff, location. Homely feel.
