Reviews for The Beach Hut

Review 1:The rooms were a lot smaller than they appeared in the photos. They were so small that there was no room to lay down the suitcases. We paid for breakfast to be included and arrived at 7.30am as asked by the owner. He was not there and the dining area was locked. We had to wait for him to finish cleaning teeth in his room before opening up the room for us to go in. Nothing was prepared. I ordered toast and marmalade. I was given two pieces of toast that had been prebuttered and no marmalade or preserves etc. My husband requested scrambled eggs. They were terrible and seemed to be precooked and dry or out of a packet. I would never stay here again. I don't know what the other places to stay are like in Holyhead. They may be similar so I can't judge. However, I would suggest trying somewhere else.

Review 2:The friendliness of the owner and the location. It was very close to the ferry terminal.

Review 3:Great location for town and ferry. Dave an excellent host helping to transport us and cooking a lovely breakfast. Room basic but spotless. Was ample for our needs.

Review 4:Sorry forgotten name, but the owner was a legend. So helpful and accommodating. Read reviews before I stayed there and they were spot on. Recommend to anyone.

Review 5:Decor needs an update. Stairs a bit steep and narrow for the older client !

Review 6:Very convenient for Ferries. Owner v friendly and helpful even when I arrived late.

Review 7:The room was small but comfortable enough.

Review 8:A quaint guesthouse. A short walk from all facilities and the ferry terminal. The owner is a character and served a hearty breakfast. Ok for a night's stay before taking the ferry to Ireland. Absolutely no complaints considering the price.

Review 9:The room was rather small but good value for money

Review 10:Very good value for money, & the rooms were clean & tidy albeit a little cramped. The port was 100 yards away

Review 11:Great spot. Went there late at night before our ferry and everything was sorted even a wee packed breakfast for the road in the morning. It was basic but it did the job. A lovely wee place and I'd advise it to anyone.

Review 12:Our room was a bit on the small side, so much so that 2 people couldn't be in the bathroom together or over by the window because the space was so tight.

Review 13:Dave was very welcoming and friendly. Couldn't do more for us, was very helpful.

Review 14:Theres wasnt anything we did not like .

Review 15:Excellent customer focus very friendly and informative about the area . The room was small but why would you need big ,had everything we needed including a beautiful view.

Review 16:Our 'double room' was minute. Difficulty in locking doors securely.

Review 17:Dave is extremely hospitable - very helpful. Quiet location. Holyhead residents are delightful.

Review 18:Proximity to ferry terminal very convenient. Dave went the extra mile and a) collected me from railway station on arrival as it was raining and b) located some Earl Grey tea at breakfast. Lovely change from large impersonal hotels - liked the fresh, clean beach-hutty decor.

Review 19:Everything. It's called the Beach Hut but there in nothing that resembles a beach for a long way. Very poor!

Review 20:This B & B is not in good repair. The room was to small to open our suitcases and nowhere to put them. The bathroom was to small to even dry yourself in it and the room not much better. It was however an ensuite and not shared. The room was not very clean and the bathroom has mold. Glad we only booked one night. I would not recommend this B & B to anyone.

Review 21:We stayed on the third floor, where I believe all of the rooms are located, and the walk up the steps with suitcases could be difficult for some older folk. Dave and his young toddler were great and gave us a helping hand!

Review 22:It was the perfect place to lay your head while waiting for the ferry to Dublin. The room was cozy, clean and comfortable. Our room looked out to the bay so the view in the morning was amazing. Dave, the owner, was courteous and pleasant and made us feel at home.

Review 23:We were happy with all of the above. But we did find the rooms much too small to allow for comfort. The size of the room was on the website but we were shocked when we actually saw the limited space. No room for luggage or to move around.

Review 24:David was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were clean.

Review 25:Small! shower felt like a cupboard and was broke, no room at all had to climb 2 very steep sets of stairs with grandmother an a one year olds travel cot ect no good for family's what so ever also only one tiny window which over looked council flats!! Also next door to a pub with very lively entertainment

Review 26:Breakfast was lovely

Review 27:The rooms were extremely small and one has to climb 2 very steep flights of stairs to get to them. This should be mentioned in the "brochure".

Review 28:Friendliness of staff and willingness to help about places to visit in and around Holyhead.

Review 29:the location was great, so close the ferry terminal and town - all walking distance. Dave went over and above for us, with his hospitality, even taking us to the car rental pick up. the room was small but even though on the roadside the noise wasn't an issue. The Mandarin restaurant close by was brilliant. We would repeat.

Review 30:We stayed in 6 venues during our trvelling holiday. This was the worst of them. The room was supposed to be a 'family' room. This was false advertising. The room was so small tat you could not even fit your suitcase on the floor. It was a single room with a double bed and bunkbeds crammed into it. There was no space either floor or surfaces to even put a handbag. It was lucky we had only one child because we could use the bottom bunk to put our bags on. It was so small that we had to take it in turns to get dressed in the morning. The walls were stained and dirty and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly and smelled of urine.

Review 31:friendly host

Review 32:The owner was very helpful and welcoming, the stay was very relaxed and the breakfast was delicious. Only a short walk from the ferry port and railway station. I recommend the Beach Hut to any visitors to Holyhead.

Review 33:Staff/owner was outstanding in arranging our late arrival and early departure. We left an item and he was able to get it back to us with a minimum of hassle. Nothing was too much, great attitude, something feared lost in todays world.

Review 34:Room was adequate but very small. Toilet and shower area was also very small but certainly adequate for a short stay.

Review 35:The hotel is well located near the Ferry Terminal and was very easy to find. Friendly owner and the cooked breakfast was very nice. Parking was right outside the entrance.

Review 36:Great price and location! We rang to say we would arrive late evening, very obliging !

Review 37:We were traveling on the early morning ferry to Dublin , so close to ferry port we could see the ferry! Very friendly and helpful staff, pub next door

Review 38:Owner very helpful and rang the local pub to ensure they were still cooking food for our supper as we arrived late due to motorway delays on journey to Holyhead. He also offered/provided a packed breakfast for us as we needed to leave early (7am) to enable us to eat it when we'd boarded the ferry. Location was close to ferry terminal as stated.

Review 39:Room very small ( family room only 12' 6'' by 8' approx. No storage at all, No glasses in bath room Small Double Bed (more 3/4 ,rather than full size) Beds uncomfortable, Bunk Bed had slates missing. Shower really black and dirty in cracks and crevices. other peoples showers very noisy in very early morning. mattress protector on double bed ripped, lack of pillowcases. Expensive for what it was !!!

Review 40:Breakfast was good Hotel owner and staff friendly

Review 41:Room was a little bit small to be classed as a double room.

Review 42:Great place to stay either for a couple of days or just a stopover to catch the ferry. Very pleasant staff who went out of their way to help.

Review 43:I e-mailed saying that I would like an early breakfast, but nobody bothered to turn up and cook something. I paid for it, but there was not even an e-mail to apologies for the lack of one.

Review 44:The lady that booked me in was very friendly and helpful.

Review 45:Pillows like cotton wool, lovely for some but no good after 9 hours on a motorcycle. Something a bit firmer would have been good but u can't please all the people all the time

Review 46:I arrived at 11pm and a key was left out for me, fantastic customer service

Review 47:The room was a bit cramped, but we were staying only one night so it didn't matter.

Review 48:Dave, the owner, is a terrific fellow. He made us feel welcome, took care of our needs, and was great to simply chat with.

Review 49:No bad experience as such but if I would change one thing (and host is aware when he refurbishes next) the sinks are a little on the small side.

Review 50:Value for money and the room was comfortable. The host was amazing, friendly, helpful and generous.

Review 51:Everything felt grubby, the bathroom, the bedroom, the breakfast room, everrthing! Although the bedding was clean and fresh.

Review 52:The bed was quite comfortable and quiet. The shower was nice and hot as soon as it was turned on. Parking was close and free.

Review 53:Very friendly, owner phoned us to check on time of arrival as needed to go shopping but made sure we were met at B&B. Breakfast quick and perfectly timed for us to catch the morning Dublin ferry. Easy parking as well.

Review 54:Holyhead! Wouldn't visit unless was getting ferry again. Walked out if train station and two men fighting!

Review 55:Dave the owner was really nice and helpful, room small but nice and clean, breakfast lovely. Perfect for staying over before getting ferry.

Review 56:The room was very small, the walls were thin and the toilet/shower needed a good scrubbing. All in all is was ok for a brief stop after getting off the ferry.

Review 57:Dave was very personable and made a very good breakfast.

Review 58:Room tiny and horrible. Bathroom was appalling with mould on the roof and in the shower cubicle. On the plus side breakfast was nice and it's close to the ferry. Cannot recommend this place, it's the kind of place that I thought didn't exist in 2015. There is no excuse for providing a room in this condition.

Review 59:Enjoyed my two night stay there was amazing, beautiful place to see. Well worthy the money and the visit. Thanks Dave for extra help you gave me. Love it and look forward to going back again.

Review 60:The tiniest room we have ever stayed in! And steep, narrow stairs. Lucky we weren't fat

Review 61:Great breakfast. Walking distance to pubs and great view from window of harbour water.

Review 62:Colleagues rooms had no soap in them.

Review 63:Very friendly and welcoming staff, allowing 3 bikes into property for security. Very good breakfast and recommendations of evening meal places to eat.

Review 64:The shower needed quite some time to "wake up" and provide warm water

Review 65:Everything is there but no real abundance nor space. Welcome was rather brief and "to-the-point". Breakfast was fine.

Review 66:Staff does not 'live in' at night, though phone numbers are posted for emergencies.

Review 67:Within walking distance of everything. Full breakfast included Friendly staff

Review 68:Missing out on the breakfast that Sean was going to make for us all because Irish ferries cancelled our initial booking. Had to rebook with another service which meant leaving the Beach Hut at 7am. Apparently as we found Irish Ferries are renound for cancelling at the last minute.

Review 69:Sean when out of his way to help us on our arrival even by leading us to the car rental drop off and bringing us back to the Beach Hut.

Review 70:The room was too small for a twin , had a lot of difficulty getting the suitcases in and also up the staircase . Bed was uncomfortable and pillows flat

Review 71:Breakfast was ok and he allowed us to use washing machine which was a definite bonus

Review 72:I didn't have a bad experience and would have no hesitation in returning.

Review 73:I was catching the early morning ferry so unfortunately didn't have time for breakfast. Dave very helpfully arranged to have fresh bacon sandwiches ready for me before my departure!

Review 74:The Beach Hut is very much fit for purpose i.e. `for those stopping off a couple of nights prior to travelling onwards. It has the potential to be excellent just a few cosmetic tweaks needed.

Review 75:The owner was very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The room had all the facilities you would require.

Review 76:Room small so wouldn't choose for longer stay. Front room noisy when night ferry unloading.

Review 77:Superb value for money Friendly helpful owner, Dave, gave lift round to ferry- outstanding service especially given price of room. Also able to leave car in bay outside premises. Only 10 mins walk back to collect.

Review 78:Nothing! Wish all my digs were this nice...

Review 79:Super friendly staff, great value for money and the bed was very comfortable. Clean and minimal décor in the rooms, and they were happy to tweak the breakfast to suit my preferences.

Review 80:Occasionally the WiFi cut out, but the owners were working to fix it during my stay.

Review 81:The breakfast was fantastic, and Dave and his friends went out of their way to help me out and show me the sights!

Review 82:stuggled to get breakfast out had to wait 40mins and got order wrong but understood he was filling in for regular cook so alls forgiven .

Review 83:lovely room single occupancy and nice double bed fresh and clean dave was lovely host .

Review 84:Date was fantastic, the best host you can hope for. The room was very clean, the bed was super comfortable & breakfast was the icing on the cake. I would definitely stay again :-)

Review 85:this accommodation is great value for money and the full English breakfast is great, we are subcontractors working away from home and we have stayed here a few times. we would definitely use this accommodation again.

Review 86:Wifi not working.

Review 87:Friendly staff. Helpful in accommodating late/early arrivals off ferry. Clean, basic, no-frills room. Good location and free parking outside property.

Review 88:Total lack of incidental facilities in room and had to ask for second towel and cup. No soaps, glasses or storage facilities and tiny room up 2 flights of narrow stairs.

Review 89:Owners pleasant and breakfast nice enough.

Review 90:I have read a couple of negative reviews. which I totally disagree with. I paid £30 per night for B&B so wasn't expecting much, so I was extremely pleased to find a very comfortable bed. A shower that worked and staff who couldn't do enough for you. If you want 5star luxury then pay your money and go elsewhere. But if you want friendly service a good breakfast and you don't have a lot of money this is the place for you.

Review 91:Very friendly service. I had a problem with the tv which was replaced with a new one within 30mins. Dave the owner bought a new flat screen and set it up. All the staff were friendly and welcoming.

Review 92:There wasn't much of a choice at breakfast. The hotel is right in front of the entry to the port so there is substantial noise between 2-3am when the boats are loading and unloading.

Review 93:The ensuite room was very small, warm, clean and had a multi channel TV. For an overnight stay (I arrived after midnight and left at 9am) what more could you want? Dave was professional and courteous.

Review 94:Very handy for late arriving ferry - walking distance from ferryport (6-7 minutes). Owner very friendly and expedited my breakfast as I had an early train.

Review 95:My only quibble was no sink plug!

Review 96:Continental breakfast very good! Way the Beach handled my late arrival ( from ferry) Good communication , prompt response., understanding about late arrival. Room was nice and warm - which given the late night arrival and the weather was much appreciated!

Review 97:This accommodation is amazingly good value, and not intended as "luxury", However, a shelf in the en suite would be good - but I have a "camping sponge bag", and there was a hook to hang it on. A grab rail in the shower is probably more of a luxury, and extra to ordinary B and B accommodation, so disliking its absence is probably too strong a comment - but a small shelf in the shower, for toiletries, would be helpful.

Review 98:Here for Christmas - very comfortable - was even brought breakfast trays! When I asked for a table (extra to the tiny kettle and cups table) a full-size computer desk was provided - big enough for laptop, all my Christmas reading,, and various papers. Wonderful view of the harbour, so lots of fresh air, but also cosy with radiator next to desk and chair. The welcome could not have been warmer, with much kind sympathy for my broken arm in a cast - luggage carried, and kind enquiries about painkillers.

Review 99:I found several bed bugs in my bed and was forced to leave the room in the middle of the night. I've killed most of bugs I spotted but if there's a few, there's gotta be more. The owners did claim that they didn't find any bed bugs. Because of the bed bugs, I had to throw away the clothes I was wearing and an expensive motorcycle helmet.

Review 100:The staff were friendly and check in was smooth. Wifi worked well and everything was provided for.

Review 101:The decor was a little drab and the rooms furnishings were quite basic. It was still very good value.

Review 102:The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The wifi worked very well, I found that most usefulI loved the breakfast and over all it was extremely good value. Very comfy bed, I had the best nights sleep I had had in ages.

Review 103:Room is 30cm wider than the bed! Tiniest toilet room. Narrow halls and stairs to the third level. Absolutely claustrophobic - - had to visualize wide open fields to get any rest.

Review 104:Close to the ferry wharf. Breakfast OK

Review 105:Bedroom about 13 inches wider than the bed. With narrow hallways and stairways rather claustrophobic.

Review 106:Only a two minute drive from the ferry terminal. Key was left out for our late arrival.

Review 107:Great price, great location a short walk from town centre. When I arrived the owner Dave couldn't have been more helpful. I asked about a laundrette and he let me put my washing on in his own laundry. Also a minor issue with shower pressure was fixed right away. Very clean and comfortable.

Review 108:Sorrento, it isn't, nor even Swansea Bay, but the view from the front bedrooms of this cheerful B&B is worth the climb up its narrow stairs. Watch the colourful sunrise over Salt Island, Admiralty Arch (the 'other end' of the A5) and Holyhead's Old Harbour with its imposing ferries. The accommodation is small but sufficient, clean and comfortable. Parking is close at hand and well lit. The owner was welcoming and anxious to please. The cooked breakfast, included in the very reasonable price, was tasty and satisfying. A nice little stop-over.

Review 109:Helpful friendly owner and staff. Close to ferry. Great breakfast. This was my second stay at the Beach Hut and it won`t be my last. Dave the owner is very helpful and will go out of his way to make sure you have everything you need. All the staff have been polite friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend this b&b to others. Thanks for an enjoyable stay Dave.

Review 110:Kinda busy road with truck traffic, but still ok for sleeping.

Review 111:We liked the location. Easy to walk to restaurants, the ferry, and shops. And we liked the friendly advice from Dave.

Review 112:It was difficult to open suitcases on the bunkbed and room was very small.

Review 113:Breakfast was very good, well presented, and tasty. Hilary was friendly and helpful. Room was efficient though small.

Review 114:David (the owner) couldn't do enough to make me feel welcome. The room I had was small and cosy with all the facility needed. Good wifi (free), good little wash room, TV, kettle for a brew etc. View was lovely over looking the port. Overall great value for money.

Review 115:Poor internet. That being said, this has been the case in every place I have stayed in Wales including some accommodations that were far more expensive.

Review 116:Dave and Hillary (staff) were very friendly and helpful. The facility is somewhere between a hostel and a hotel. The rooms are private, clean, and functional. Great value. I have been travelling Wales for a week now and have not met more personable and helpful staff. If you are looking for an affordable place to stay with great value for the money, this is it. Location right across the road from the harbour and a great place to make day trips to South Stack, the Hut Circles etc. The stay was worth more than I paid in cash.

Review 117:Unfortunately the noise from the other room (TV, talking) could be plainly heard.

Review 118:The location of The Beach Hut was good for access to the Breakwater Park and the Maritime Museum. The Café belonging to the Beach Hut looked nice, and this is were the inclusive cooked Breakfast was served. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. Excellent place to stay on a low Budget if one doesn't plan on spending a lot of time in the room.

Review 119:The pillow wasn't that great nor was the water pressure in the shower, but the location was so perfect I didn't care!

Review 120:Hilary was so friendly and accomodating. Breakfast was excellent and the location was perfect. Thanks to Marina at the Boathouse for our warm and welcome service and delicious irish coffees!

Review 121:Wifi didn't seem to work during our stay. Simple breakfast, cooked only no option of cereals or fruits.

Review 122:Ideal location to get to the ferry terminal!! Views were good looking out over the port.

Review 123:Holyhead itself hasn't got many proper restaurants only really fast food places, we found more available at Trearddur Bay which was only a 6 minute drive away. The beach hut is a perfect base camp (especially overnight for the ferry) probably not ideal for large families

Review 124:The staff were extra helpful throughout the stay, informing us that the rooms are not that big (which didn't bother us) helping us decide things to do etc and breakfasts were something to look forward to The bed was comfy, the shower was hot and powerful and I always had a parking space. Who could ask for anything more?

Review 125:Somewhat cramped rooms, but bathroom was nice and clean and en suite.

Review 126:It was convenient to the ferry and the other guests were fun and compatible. Atmosphere was merry. Breakfast was excellent!

Review 127:Noises children across the landing(I'm over 55 and have limited patience lately)

Review 128:Was embarrassed asking for a 6.15 breakfast on a Sunday morning but wasn't a problem with the staff who were up early to serve a full Welsh breakfast .Wouldnt have got this elsewhere!

Review 129:Very noisy, dingy stale smelling stairways with no fire escape. Poor facilities in room eg 1 coat hanger and 1 chair. Very much overpriced and poor value for money.

Review 130:Family room was small, fine for an overnight but I wouldn't stay for a week.

Review 131:Dave who runs the Beach but, is really friendly and helpful. He accommodated an unexpectedly late check in and early morning veggie breakfasts to reach the early ferry. Rooms were simple but clean, everyone slept well.
