Reviews for Blackthorn Farm
Review 1:There are no areas of criticism.
Review 2:The friendly personal attention made it like a home from home. The relaxed and personal approach made for a comfortable stay. While the location is rural, it is within easy striking distance of quality restaurants nearby.
Review 3:Had to go along the corridor to use a shared bathroom.
Review 4:Friendly helpful staff cosy room, comfortable and clean Nice good breakfast great location near the ferry port
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Beautiful accommodation, very pleasant friendly staff, dog friendly, delicious food for breakfast. Absolutely fabulous setting. Delighted that we found this gem.
Review 7:Wonderful pet friendly cottage. Plenty of room for two adults and our two small dogs. Fully equipped with everything that you would need for either a short break or a longer break. Heating is by radiators and were just what we needed as the weather was not that good but we were kept lovely and toasty. Comfy sofa. Comfy bed. Great powerful hot shower. Wifi works great. Secure garden was perfect for our small dogs who can normally get out of most gardens and they are not secure enough for little dogs. It was great for them to be able to wander around. Richard and a lady that welcomed us on arrival were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this cottage and we shall be stopping here again should we venture to Holyhead again in the future. Thanks for a great stay.
Review 8:the en-suite was very small 4feet by 8feet no room for the basen which was in the small bedroom. the dividing wall between our room and the next was one sheet of plasterboard we could hear the next room snoring all night.this year have stayed in 9 b & b this was the worst by a lond way.
Review 9:the view
Review 10:Bad bathroom smells. Shower water went off and then came back extremely hot and then extremely cold, despite a very large boiler in kitchen, suspect it feeds whole complex with us on the end. Not enough table cutlery(one knife). Plenty of cleaning materials, but no washing up liquid or pot scourer. Saucepans and china stained and pot lid was faulty, caused scalding. Fire alarm sounding every time toaster was used, despite having extractor fan full on. Faulty front door lock. Had to leave unlocked. Sea and mountain views so distant, had to stand on tiptoe and look through binoculars. Two great tractors obscuring kitchen window view. View from bedroom window weed infested with glass on ground. Would have complained if we thought it would do any good, indifferent staff. For £120 per night, we could have had luxury elsewhere.
Review 11:Location.
Review 12:Insufficient and cramped space in bedroom, bathroom with sink in bedroom with no space to access it comfortably. The lack of Staff presence and the need to rush away on our arrival. A letter confirming breakfast which we did not get.
Review 13:We did not enjoy our stay
Review 14:Wished they served evening meals because breakfast was delicious!
Review 15:Friendly helpful staff, lovely clean spacious room, relaxed and peaceful location with lovely beaches and walks on the doorstep.
Review 16:Would have preferred our own ensuite as we had to go downstairs every time to the floor below.
Review 17:Loved the breakfast, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the location, the outlook, the general ambience
Review 18:Not a thing .... it was perfect
Review 19:I could have all the comforts while my family very much enjoyed the camping. Will be booking again just for myself to get away for the tranquility & great B & B
Review 20:There was a bit of noise from the other visitors, but that can't really be prevented.
Review 21:The staff member who greeted us was very friendly and accommodating. She told us everything we needed to know to ensure we got some food delivered, and she let us know we could use the breakfast room to eat dinner and grab something in the morning (despite the fact we were leaving before breakfast).
Review 22:To be honest struggling with this!!!!!
Review 23:We were made to feel very welcome right from the start, excellent welcome tray in the room, all rooms were themed and tastefully done, the furniture was real not a flat pack job. Although there was no meals served at night we had full use of the dining room, cutlery etc so we could bring back a take away at any time superb.
Review 24:Our bedroom was an attic up on the third level and up a spiral staircase- not good for over 70's. No view from attic windows unless standing on the bed. No mention that it was also a camping ground with booking.com so very noisy at night.
Review 25:Not applicable
Review 26:Extremely helpful staff Fantastic location We didn't have breakfast as we had self catering facilities but menu did look very enticing and good value
Review 27:Hadn't realised it was also a camp site and unfortunately room was located opposite a group of young people who liked to scream, squeal and shout loudly. Was v noisy until nearly 11 so didn't get the early night we had hoped for. Gravel car park under windows also meant it was noisy. Walls and floor do not deaden sound so were also bothered by other occupants moving around. With breakfast commencing 8.00 had to miss breakfast but in fairness the staff left us the basics for a continental in the dining room fridge which was fine. Have to say the room was very cramped the bed small and the quilt cover far too heavy for august.
Review 28:Great location. Very picturesque Ideal for a night ahead of early morning ferry Very clean and in good order. No parking issues
Review 29:The only downside was the water pressure was really low in our room - which meant at times there was no running water. This was only for a few minutes at a time and we both managed to get showered.
Review 30:We really liked the Pet friendliness of the place. The staff were so lovely to our puppy cocker spaniel who loved her stay. The view was stunning from our room. Also, the breakfast was great - very filling!
Review 31:Not Applicable
Review 32:staff were polite, helpful and very friendly, room was so clean and lovely decor. Breakfast was fabulous and lovely biscuits and drinks in the room - great that you could help yourself to the fresh milk in the downstairs fridge too if you don't like the UHT cartons
Review 33:Unsatisfactory en-suite facilities in our room. Wash basin in bedroom, flimsy louvred door with wide gaps top and bottom to shower and WC so lacked reasonable privacy. Overall, room was small but ok for one night if you are unconcerned about bathroom facilities. We would choose elsewhere another time.
Review 34:Interesting location. Ideal for ferry port
Review 35:Beautiful bedroom, clean roomy and quality furnishings. Friendly, helpful staff. Use of dining room and fridge at anytime. Fresh milk for tea in bedrooms!!
Review 36:The room we had was well appointed but the shower & toilet facilities were very cramped! A piece of the room was walled off to make an ensuite but it didn't really work! The wash basin was in the room itself & the shower & toilet were very small & didn't allow much privacy!
Review 37:All the little touches made the stay very enjoyable! Dining room available for takeaway meals! Host very accommodating!
Review 38:Absolutely nothing!!!
Review 39:We arrived late from the ferry and were delighted when we arrived. The ground floor room with en-suite was perfect. Clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable. We were travelling with our little dog and the owners are very 'pet friendly' Breakfast menu was extensive and we had a beautiful cooked breakfast. We will definitely stay here again. The area is very scenic and only a few mins drive from Holyhead.
Review 40:The personal touch. The comfort of the establishment was not compromised by the rural location. Good view over the fields with horses in the paddock.
Review 41:We didn't sleep well 4 hours max!Doors opening & closing until 1am & started again @ 5am.Bed & pillows not very comfortable.Minute ensuite in our room with louvered door which also interrupted sleep.I really don't understand why they butter bread / toast before it is brought to table I find it quite off putting.
Review 42:Convenient for Holyhead Ferry.Lovely coastal walk.
Review 43:Very friendly welcome, even though we were only staying one night. They laid out a continental breakfast specially for us because we needed to leave before normal breakfast started to catch a ferry to Ireland
Review 44:Had asked for an early Breakfast as going to Port early. Was told its only a short distance to port, I still said I would like an early Breakfast and didn't receive it, so much so when the breakfast did arrive we had to leave it as we needed to get to Ferry.
Review 45:It was Quiet.
Review 46:This was a most enjoyable trip, we visited so many different, sites of interest and history, the tourist board have done a pretty good job, this also helps the local economy. There were several inexpensive cafes, serving good food at reasonable prices
Review 47:The lower bunk bed was uncomfortable and the springs could be felt. All the other beds were very comfortable.
Review 48:Comfortable stay. Seagull Cottage is nice and private. Great shower. Beautiful view. Scenery was wonderful.
Review 49:Cottage was smaller than I expected but lovely. Shame you can't access the coast directly from the site. But these aren't problems just minor points other travellers might be interested to know.
Review 50:Staff extremely helpful, breakfast delivered to cottage, cottage very well equipt & clean, lovely views.
Review 51:The staff and facilities where excellent. We liked the fact that we could order take away meals in the evening and use the dinning room facilities, we chilled our champagne in the fridge and had access to fresh milk for our cuppas, costal walks are on the doorstep as are walks to the main towns and historical sites. We could leave the car and just chill. Breakfast choices and presentation where excellent.
Review 52:Would of liked safer covered parking for motorbike.
Review 53:Clean and tidy. Called asking about arrival time. Breakfast left out for me as leaving early. Very helpful.
Review 54:The optional evening meal was ok, but very noisy environment due to a large group mainly of children from the camping area. Not the fault of the b&b, but very moist and spoilt the quietness needed after a six hour drive.
Review 55:Richard was very helpful, the rooms were very clean and comfortable. Easy to find, good parking. Breakfast was both excellent and good in portion size.
Review 56:Wonderful place to stay. Great location stunning views. Lovely room with all the comforts catered for. Big choice for breakfast and the staff were lovely!
Review 57:The reception closes a bit early, and they would benefit by having more to do at the bed and breakfast
Review 58:Everything was great, close to town centre, but also can see all the beautiful country side
Review 59:Only downside, the room was next to reception and dining room, but wasn't that noisy.
Review 60:Owners could not have been more welcoming, even offering a lift to collect our car which we left at the wedding venue. The choice of breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked to order. Our room was large and well decorated with plenty of storage(unusual)with tea/coffee facilities,
Review 61:We liked everything
Review 62:Great location with beautiful surroundings. The B&B was extremely clean and tidy. Breakfast was great too. We will certainly go back.
Review 63:A shared bathroom may not be to everyone's liking but since we shared with our friends it was just fine.
Review 64:Convenient and comfortable stay with full Welsh breakfast just before catching the ferry to Ireland.
Review 65:Only minor issue was that noise did travel a bit due to the polished floor boards.
Review 66:Easy to find, warm welcome on arrival, room was comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was delicious, staff were lovely. Would stay there again and recommend.
Review 67:Everything. Close to the beach and the lighthouse (~10 minutes drive). Lovely front field for football and kite flying. Saw lots of different wildlife. Good food.
Review 68:The full Welsh breakfast! The farm is close to the Coastal Trail which makes for a nice hike to the South Stack RSPB, Lighthouse, and Elin's Tower.
Review 69:Nothing at all!
Review 70:One of the best b&bs we've ever stayed at, lovely refurbished, immaculate farm house with excellent staff and breakfast. We will definitely come back!
Review 71:The wifi wasn't working in the cottage, but the staff allowed us to use the common breakfast area where it was working. The two bedrooms in the cottage are cramped. The grounds are shared with a caravan/RV/travel trailer park which is between the ocean and the B&B.There is no view of the ocean from the cottage but there is a distant view of the bay.
Review 72:We stayed in the cottage which was comfortable. Staff were very helpful.
Review 73:Very warm welcome, nothing seemed to be too much trouble from the moment we arrived. Friday night fish an chips was lovely and being able to help yourself to some fresh milk instead of that uht anytime night or day.
Review 74:Ideal location for our overnight stay ready for an early ferry crossing. Although we left prior to the sit down breakfast we had a continental breakfast with sufficient food left for us to help us on our way.
Review 75:the room was so nice it would have been good to be able to lounge about in the evening as we had a small child and he needs his early sleep, a comfy couch or chairs would have been a great addition after he was asleep. a bit nosy from overhead.but more to do with wooden floors etc than noisy neighbours. We could live with it.
Review 76:very quiet location. fantastic views over the sea, we had a great sunset - or the snowdonia range in the distance from another direction. walking or riding direct from the location. fantastic beaches for the kids. spacious room, great complimentary tray - little shop to buy the wine with the use of a fridge to keep it chilled for the evening. nice staff
Review 77:The only issue was that the room and bathroom were small, otherwise, no complaints.
Review 78:The location is perfect, quiet and overlooking the sea. The set up is great, with use of the dining area and it's great for dogs.
Review 79:Arrived very late at night ,had not thought about early morning breakfast ( pre- 8 am ) After a call to Richard's phone around 7.30 this was hurriedly arranged for us .Don't repeat our mistake.Think when you book .Dog barked occasionally on hearing disturbances such as voices/cars arriving .
Review 80:Made a lovely add-on to our Irish holiday . Very pleasant hospitality . Can be a very windy spot , dog ( hence myself ! ) did not get much sleep due to wind noise in Treaddurr room which was on exposed corner but it would not put me off visiting again .
Review 81:Relatively easy to find although try to avoid getting stuck in the nightmare narrow one way system/housing estate in Holyhead. Probably partly the SatNav's fault!
Review 82:Warm friendly welcome. Good size room plus quality tea and coffee sachets. Plenty of space to park. Location excellent for access to the ferries.
Review 83:Shower "curtain" was too small, bed too soft (for me), new kettle made the water taste funny.
Review 84:Big, tasty breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, th edecor was stylish.
Review 85:Rare to find a family run business and that makes such a difference in that it really matters to them how your holiday goes. Audrey, NIgel and Richard are such terrific hosts. They have fabulous staff who go that extra mile and more. The area is outstanding with coastal walks, not that you can walk Nigel's breakfast off easily. Friday night is fish and chips with mushy peas, all done on the premises, fresh thick white cod in crispy batter. Just great.
Review 86:The noise carries in this place. We were woken by crying babies, footsteps above us and even normal volume voices.
Review 87:Delicious breakfasts with stunning views. Friendly hosts. Sweet, fresh and pretty room, spotlessly clean with plenty of tea and coffee and bottled water included.
Review 88:We were woken at 5.30am by those in the room above, clumping around for a while. I guess this is a problem with wooden floors but this is the only blot on a very pleasant visit.
Review 89:Communication was excellent and the room was very well furnished and scrupulously clean. The breakfast choice was excellent, tasty and well presented. Local information was comprehensive and the experience will be repeated when we are next in the area.
Review 90:Staff were very attentive and knowledgeable about places to visit. Breakfast was perfect. Room was clean and comfortable and perfect for us as a family of 4 plus the dog.
Review 91:The help and support offered by the young lady on the desk both on my way to Ireland and on my return was excellent. She made everything so easy for me. It was truly appreciated and I will definitely book into your hotel again. Thanks. Mike
Review 92:We had a fabulous stay at Blackthorn and will definitely return at some point. It's in a great location and is incredibly peaceful. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Do visit!
Review 93:Location for purpose Breakfast Room was excellent washing facilities were very good Choice of beds (single/double, choose to sleep in single and it was comfortable. Owner was very friendly
Review 94:We only stayed one night on our way to Ireland, but what stood out for us was the friendliness of the staff. From the very first phonecall to confirm our booking, they were consistently excellent. The self catered accomodation was well set up. Kitchen had everything we needed and they even gave us some milk in a jug so we could make a late cuppa, because we arrived late. Thank you for a trouble free stay.
Review 95:Comfortable accommodation and dog friendly. Excellent location for catching the ferry to Ireland. Extremely thoughtful for travellers needing accommodation at late hours - we arrived about midnight and the bungalow was lit and warm and all we needed was on hand.
Review 96:Location - stunning views over island, peaceful countryside spot All staff helpful and friendly Attention to detail in room service, very clean - good beds Excellent breakfast Efficient checkout
Review 97:Only minor niggle was I would have preferred a plug near a large mirror for drying my hair. Had to use a small mirror at a low height.
Review 98:Lovely welcome Great views Comfy bed Nice room Gave us information about take aways and told us we could use crockery from the dining room Use of fridge if required "Real" milk available in dining room if required. Basically had everything that you would need.
Review 99:Nothing.
Review 100:We rarely stay at B&Bs so we were not sure what to expect. Blackthorn Farm exceeded all our expectations and proved to be an excellent overnight stop in all respects Both the warmth of the welcome and the facilities on offer could not be bettered!
Review 101:Staff were really friendly. We were made to feel very welcome and had a really nice stay. I would definitely reccomend Blackthorn Farm if you were visiting Anglesey.
Review 102:Being able to use the fridge to cool some drinks. Offering the kids to have some cereal when we arrived late at night. Breakfast was lovely too. Very ,very nice people.
Review 103:Everything! Beautiful location close to lots of small beaches. Hotel staff and owner were so welcoming, rooms immaculate, breakfast beautifully cooked. Would definitely stay again! Definitely my Four in a Bed winners
Review 104:Nothing not to like!!
Review 105:Attention to detail Friendly, helpful attitude of owner and all staff Efficient and speedy Check-In/Out Quiet Location Good food, well presented Parking close by Stunning views of landscape
Review 106:Shower cubicle hadn't been cleaned, there was hair from previous customers. Felt more like being in a caravan than cottage and thought a little over priced comparing to cottages stated in before.
Review 107:Excellent location Comfy beds so great nights sleep
Review 108:nice location and good meals pleasant staff with sea views many thanks
Review 109:it's remote so your only dinner choices are take-away if they are not offering dinner at the Inn.
Review 110:location for walks along the cliffs quiet comfortable and clean rooms friendly staff easy parking
Review 111:We had an incident. One of the other guests invited someone back to the B&B and up to their room. Yelling, pounding etc. at 4 AM. Staff in the morning was very, very apologetic, offered and adjusted bill because of disturbance.
Review 112:Staff was great! Location was very private. Food at dinner and breakfast was super. Would stay again.
Review 113:Hardly anything that we didn't like. If I really wanted to nit pick, I would say that the shower door in our bathroom needs to open the other way- made getting out of the shower a little awkward- however that's just me-it may not bother other people.
Review 114:First and foremost it was the location- rugged, but beautiful. The B&B facility is very good- they've thought of almost everything. Excellent tea/coffee facilities in our bedroom. The decor in the room was fresh and clean. Very good breakfast. Very friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 115:A very pleasant short stay with the bonus of decent weather for cycling. Friendly staff and well set out and furnished room. Great breakfast and facilities for the price.
Review 116:Nothing to dislike all wonderful
Review 117:Friendliness of staff, location wonderful views of Treaddur Bay, amenities for travellers with access to kitchen and dining room at all times. Beautiful breakfast and beautiful clean rooms and grounds.
Review 118:The bedroom was very small. There was no lounge and no where to sit outside though there was plenty of space. A bit of imginative landscaping and gardening wouln't come amiss. Seems to be unsure what kind of a place it is.
Review 119:Staff very friendly, breakfast very well cooked and plenty of choice - great ingredients.
Review 120:The accommodation was great and staff and owner couldn't have made us feel more welcome or at home. It is a truly beautiful spot overlooking the ocean. We would liked to have been able to stay longer than 3 days to explore the many walking paths that Anglesey has to offer.
Review 121:Booked 3 days before last minute for a weekend away with a friend. Fabulous location with views across to Snowdonia and the rest of the island. Staff really friendly on arrival, rooms clean and well presented. Evening meal good value for money as was breakfast. Hopefully I'll be back in the future!
Review 122:The new fire door made the use of the bathroom difficult in the middle of the night without disturbing other guests.
Review 123:The friendliness and genuine care of the staff. Also lovely brown toast available at breakfast which is often a real luxury in B & Bs.
The Fine Print
