Reviews for Cara Guesthouse
Review 1:Poorly finished décor, dirty glasses in the room, and over-powering smell of bleach in the room. Conflicting messages were given about breakfast times, on arrival to breakfast staff were initially quite sharp and rude.
Review 2:Beautiful location. Owner not available on arrival however we received a messages to let us know where our keys would be. Comfortable bed, Quite room.
Review 3:Staff member needs some customer service training. We requested a room for two people, got put into a family room with three beds and to our surprise in the morning ended up being told off for using two beds in the room rather than one. This made us feel uncomfortable. Also when advised one guest was a veggie was told quite abruptly we would have to "make do" with cereal as we did not inform the guest house of this prior to arrival.
Review 4:The location is great.
Review 5:Nothing negative to say.
Review 6:Everything ! A great warm welcome from Carol the hostess,a lovely cosy place all round. Quiet, great location.Breakfast was really good . A bonus was that everywhere had great Xmas decorations and lights making the visit feel even more 'home from home' which is rare when staying away from home. Absolute great value at any price.
Review 7:The Lady looking after the guesthouse is a fantastic host. Breakfast was a great experience. Was easy to get from the guesthouse to Newcastle stadium.
Review 8:Slightly dated decor and tiny shower but that bed and the breakfast makes you forget all that.
Review 9:Excellent welcome so friendly and helpful. The bed was ultra comfy and you don't want to get up. Breakfast was first rate and filling. Great location, easy to get into town, open beach straight opposite.
Review 10:Not keen on top floor. Toilet/shower was noisy and very cramped. Found better shower facilities on second floor.
Review 11:Carol was very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Location was awesome.Shame about skylight view.
Review 12:Forgot my keys and was locked out at night felt silly calling Maria the owner. She came to my aid with a genuinely friendly smile and on top went the following morning without settling the bill...called maria to let her know she said come when you can, its ok...how about that as a host. I thought on road parking would be an issue...not at all...the sea front is only about 200 feet across the hotel... Clean tidy well kept guest home.
Review 13:Unfortunately, my stay was cancelled due to emergency repair work. The owner went to the trouble of finding me last minute alternative accommodation and money was returned to me promptly.
Review 14:I didn't mind the dripping tap at all.
Review 15:My partner wouldn't go to Whitley Bay because of its reputation and a past encounter with the town centre, but Cara's is in a different sort of Whitley Bay. It looks at the seafront, with views from St Mary's Lighthouse to the lovely Spanish city dome. The Links are lovely, so its really straight out onto the sea front. Nice to go to the Playhouse and be back so quickly. Fish and chips even nearer. The people staffing Cara's are great, so a warm and friendly place. Facilities are fine. I was looking for a budget gust house and this was perfect.
Review 16:We were expected for breakfast at 8.30 and we were 5 minutes later. The lady who served breakfast was very unpolite. She treated us as if we where schoolchilds. She told us we had to hurry. She had not her attention by the guests, was stressed and told us she was under pressure. There were workman and she had the opinion that the business should have been closed. Maybe she was right but she seemed to forget that we were guests. She did not ask u what we would like for breakfast. We got a full English breakfast although we are vegetarian.
Review 17:A pleasantly quiet overnight stay in a comfortable bed including a cooked breakfast in the morning-just what we needed after a long day out and about.
Review 18:A day before our arrival we were informed that the room we had originally booked (ensuite double) had a leak so was no longer available. We were offered a family room with shared bathroom as an alternative which we didn't want but were left with no other choice so took.
Review 19:My stay was very comfortable and enjoyable. The only thing I think could be approved upon would be clarifying payment. I was very embarrassed to be told, at the breakfast in front of all the other guests that payment was due for my stay. This was not the case as had paid in full through booking.com. I was continually challenged (in front of the other guests) until I produced my bank statement with proof of the full amount debited. With no apology Carol then proceeded to do exactly the same thing to all the other guests sat round the breakfast one by one. This was particularly embarrassing for one young man who's stay had been paid for by his mother. He then had to ring his mother and quote all his information in front of everybody. I am sure there is an easier more discrete way to check payment arrangements.
Review 20:Carol was friendly, welcoming and very accommodating. I had problems with travel times so had to book in later than specified times and Carol quickly sorted out alternative arrangements with no fuss at all. The Cara is clean , comfortable and right on the beautiful Whitley Bay sea front.
Review 21:Room very basic, but hey that is what you expect for the price, BUT I would expect plugs in the sinks and a toilet seat that isn't broken.
Review 22:Great location, great staff, wonderful welcome, good value for money
Review 23:Rooms were a little drab and cheap, but I suspose that is reflected the in the price. Bed very uncomfortable. Can't comment on breakfast because no early breakfast at weekends.
Review 24:Location, price and free wifi. Pleasant and helpful host.
Review 25:room looked dull and contained an old bed settee that was squashed next to the bed so close that the drawers could not be opened,..shower not clean disposable razor with hair in left in shower Room 1. I found the lady who made breakfast little rude..
Review 26:it is close to the seaside and town
Review 27:Parking isn't available but we found some literally around the corner, safe and local.
Review 28:warm welcome, good sized rooms, value for money, great breakfast!
Review 29:Our room was unfortubately not very clean particularly the bathroom, bedside table lamp was cracked and did not turn on. Shower cubicle door could Definately do with being replaced and toilet seat was broken.
Review 30:Lovely welcome from owner. Breakfast is fantastic.
Review 31:Room needed a good clean. Would have liked more choice at breakfast but what was available (cooked) was excellent. Maybe some mushrooms or tomato.
Review 32:Carol was brilliant. Very friendly and helpful
Review 33:Although the rate is low the cleanliness of bathroom (ensuite) and bedroom was very poor- a lot of mould in the shower (plus a blocked drain) which flaked off when shower was on so mould was floating around your feet . Rest of room very dusty and tv remote didn't work.
Review 34:Freindly host and well looked after. Low price.
Review 35:Great friendly staff, comfy bed, decent shower and quiet nights sleep. Rooms are basic but perfectly good standard and for the money a bargain! Excellent breakfast with lovely staff who were always on hand to help. When checking in late the keys were left out for us and it was easy to organise. Would stay again and recommend. Thanks!
Review 36:Didn't care for the fact that three rooms had to share what was no more than a broom cupboard which housed the only toilet and very small shower together. Had the other two rooms on that floor been occupied when we were there, it could have been difficult getting use of the facilities in the morning. There is no car park; we had to park two streets away.
Review 37:We chose the Cara because of its proximity to the Playhouse and because it overlooked the promenade. Good to have free wifi in your room when many 'high end' hotels don't offer this facility.
Review 38:Having a shared bathroom tho we had the floor to ourselves and didn't need to share on this occasion
Review 39:Clean comfy beds great views and fab breakfast.
Review 40:The cleaners attitude is disgraceful to say the least, she's very rude and unhelpful. There isn't a car park as advertised which creates a parking problem. I also booked rooms with an en suite, I soon found out that we were sharing the bathroom facilities.
Review 41:The landlady was lovely, as well as the location. Also the breakfast was quite good.
Review 42:Wifi did not work.. Was in the loft had to share a toilet and a shower the size of a shoe box with 2 other rooms. There was a opened packet of ham in the fridge and looked like it had not been cleaned for a while..Dust what more can I say.. Breakfast was just too greasy for us.. The place I think needs modernising and I felt did not look like the pictures on the Internet.. Sorry very disappointed with the cara guesthouse..
Review 43:Yeah you can not fault the view..
Review 44:Convenient for the Metro (the guesthouse was walking distance from Monkseaton station). Room was warm and bed very comfortable. Friendly hostess.
Review 45:Yet again. practically the same review as last time. friendly welcome. lovely people.clean rooms. plenty tea and coffee. very homely feel. breakfast is great.
Review 46:My booking said check in available to 22:00 so I arrived just before 21:00 - to an extremly grumpy and unhappy owner. This tainted my stay significantly, and as solo traveller made me feel uncomfortable. Bed sheet had blood stain on, washed but not totally removed, and tap required new washers as constant drip through night.
Review 47:The breakfast is great for the price, and the owner apologised for her 'grumpiness' the night before - generally for the money - you get what you pay for and Carol is a great host, aslong as you fit in with her timetable. The location is great - right on sea front at Whitley Bay.
Review 48:We were visiting for family funeral .Carol the manager couldn't have been more accommodating , friendly, cheerful and happy to change our rooms to suit us better. Thank you
Review 49:It was all good.
Review 50:The landlady made my son and I feel very welcome, I've stayed at a few hotels/B&Bs in the area and this one may not have as many stars as some but certainly puts some of the higher stared hotels to shame, well done Cara, I shall be back.
Review 51:We were in a downstairs room and got very little sleep as the occupants in the room above us talked and walked around their room until after 4.30am.
Review 52:Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was very good.
Review 53:Would book en suite another time as toilet and shower room was very small.
Review 54:Very friendly welcoming staff. Good breakfast.Plenty of tea and coffee. We asked for a quiet room, it was. Beautiful view.
Review 55:My stay at this guesthouse was cancelled at very short notice due to a plumbing problem and I was rebooked into another guesthouse which I had not had the opportunity to look at first
Review 56:The lady running this guest house was not the politest we have encountered, treating us more like a bunch of 10-year olds. Shared bathroom was in bad condition, out of two showers, one was only cold water, and the second one with low pressure. The house gets busy quite early (6-7am) and as it is all wood and creaky, it gets noisy. Would not stay again.
Review 57:Good location next to the sea. Low price. Wi-Fi was fast with strong signal.
Review 58:From first introduction, the host was friendly and fun. Room was upgraded without extra charge.Very clean. super rapid wi-fi. Tv large.Plenty of tea and coffee. overall, a little gem. Breakfast was hot, nice size and well cooked. Definately stay again
Review 59:On arrival to the guesthouse we had a very warm welcome from the guesthouse owner. We arrived very early and although our room wasn't ready we were allowed to drop our bags off in the room until it was ready. The guesthouse is on the water front so ask for a sea view if you can as we had a room at the back which over looked a alleyway so the view wasn't great. The room was spacious and clean and even though there was only 2 of us we had a double bed and 2 singles which would be excellent value for a family if four. The shared bathrooms were clean and although the showers weren't very powerful they did the job. Breakfast was a fry up consisting of egg, bacon, sausages, beans and toast, orange juice and tea/coffee. More than enough and excellent value for money. Over all we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. The owner of the guesthouse was the highlight for us. Lovely lady, very welcoming and she made us laugh alot which is always a bonus!!! Would return to this guesthouse next time we were in the area.
Review 60:A few faults with the room such as blocked washbasin, poorly working TV remote. Shared bathroom not ideal but liveable with. I guess you get what you pay for, and on the whole this was very good value
Review 61:Sea views An excellent-humoured hostess Great breakfast Good comfortable bed
Review 62:Very run down b&b. Room was very basic. Woken each morning with noise from contractors getting up for work, sounded like they were showering in my room! Shower door filthy. Although bed was comfortable, bedding and towels very worn.
Review 63:Lady running it was very pleasant and breakfast was nice. Bed was surprisingly comfortable.
Review 64:Really enjoyed my stay here, the room was so cute and comfortable, the food was lovely and the hostess was so friendly, warm and helpful. I couldn't fault the Cara Guesthouse at all, I will definitely be coming back
Review 65:Nothing to complain about.
Review 66:Staff were really friendly and the family room provided on the ground floor was superb. Breakfast was fantastic. Will be back again.
Review 67:Pillows were lumpy & uncomfortable. Fair amount of traffic noise. Curtains were not adequate enough to keep out street lighting.
Review 68:Beds comfortable Breakfast was great & freshly cooked each day. Staff were extremely friendly. The view was stunning - overlooking the sea.
Review 69:I didn't know what to expect but was very happily surprised, travelling with young kids can be hit and miss but glad to report they loved the guest house and it;s relaxed manner, the location is superb with the beach 1 min walk and shops less than a minute also. The breakfast were lovely and over a very happy experience.
Review 70:I stayed only one night in a single room. The location is very good and the room was more than comfortable. I slept well in the bed. There was a shared bathroom. The breakfast was really lovely.
Review 71:The owner was very welcoming and helpful, and I felt well looked after. Great location near the seafront. We were lucky enough to get a room with a sea view. Right next to a bus stop, and about a 15 minute walk from the nearest Metro station, so not bad for public transport, if going further afield. Breakfast was very nice! :)
Review 72:The fact they took a booking for 2 nights and made shift out to another B&B on the 2nd night. There was more bread in the "butchers" sausages than in the toast. And despite asking for breakfast at 7.30am it was 7.45 before the lady started because it took her 5 mins to find a parking space.
Review 73:clean and a reasonable breakfast
Review 74:Excellent value for money the premises was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpfull. The breakfast really set me up for the day. Will be coming back in October.
Review 75:There was bird poo on the furniture and on the bedding, The room hadnt been cleaned properly. When we left, the lady asked us for £60, We said we had booked for £50 online, so she asked for £50. We then told her that we had already paid at time of booking which caused a slight disagreement but then the lady said ok after i said i had the details on my mobile.
Review 76:Location is good, right on the sea front... but thats about the only positive
Review 77:We have made many bookings through booking.com and this is the second time we have turned up to a hotel to discover they did not have the reservation.
Review 78:The guesthouse owner could not have been more helpful as she did not have our booking from booking.com but did have a room which my wife inspected before we agreed to stay. The location was perfect for the sea and town centre.
Review 79:It would appear the housemaid let her down as, having arrived late (9;30pm) with no staff there, it would appear that my room had not been serviced. No towels and only spotted one spare bathroom. It took me over an hour to locate a supermarket where I could buy one. It was a shared bathroom which hadn't been made clear on the booking site. The one I found the shower was in poor working order. Nowhere to hang my wet towel in the room then discovered hairs in the bed. Hot night so I slept on top.
Review 80:Carol the proprietor was really welcoming and friendly. Breakfast satisfying and was happy to cater for my gluten free diet.
Review 81:No onsite parking, no ensuite bathroom, small beds!!!
Review 82:Awesome location across from the beach. Close to amusement for the kids and places to eat! Great cooked breakfast!
Review 83:Breakfast at 7:30 or 7:45am, not later, to suit the host not the guest. Also, only Cocopops or Frosties, no yoghurt or fruit, standard cooked breakfast. Whole place had a worn appearance, maybe OK for contractors, but disappointing for holiday makers.
Review 84:Good location.
Review 85:WIFI not very reliable. Lots of traffic noise in rooms towards the street. Bathrooms could have been cleaner. Breakfast times a little bit restrictive (before 8 or after 9).
Review 86:Good breakfast. Nice hosts. Easy to find. Sea views! Overall good value for money.
Review 87:No parking on site Shared bathroom and toilet up stairs
Review 88:Great price for what you got Nice people good breakfast
Review 89:The lady that checked us in and cooked us breakfast was super, she was friendly and helpful she was the highlight of our stay.
Review 90:Decent breakfast nice warm welcome We were at the play house for a concert was just around the corner

Review 110:The kindness of the lady Manager
Review 111:WiFi not working
Review 112:Fabulous welcome from manager. Had an enormous room to sleep 6, despite being only one. Perfect location
Review 113:Family room downstairs with no en-suite and the toilet facilities were upstairs. Not ideal.
