Reviews for Crieff Hydro
Review 1:knowing the furniture is mismatched was ok but the sofa was really uncomfortable to sit on for all 3 adults no back support at all
Review 2:suitable 3 generation living for a long weekend definitely cosy and warm
Review 3:Heather broken - but we got immediately electric one. View from. The room wasn't great
Review 4:Lovely place. Worth to go and will go back!!! Very friendly stuff.
Review 5:The area of our accomodation was on the garden floor, this appears to be quite a cold area. The carpet in that area and the room were a bit worn. Some advertised items were not available as there were still party nights. On the positive side that was why we were given a room on the garden floor to prevent issue with noise.
Review 6:Staff and porters were friendly and helpful, although more staff at booking in would have been useful.
Review 7:We did not check the hotel website before booking. If we had it would not have been a surprise to find that their main flagship restaurant was closed to guests for the duration of the festive season. That was very annoying. No turn down service, bath robes or water in the room, unusual for a 4 star venue.
Review 8:As a family holiday theme park it's excellent.
Review 9:We stayed in room 14 which was next to a function suite. It was very noisy on the Saturday night and we found it difficult getting to sleep with the loud music playing till early hours of the morning. It's not great especially when you have a 4 year old. However, on the Sunday night it was a lot quieter. The beds were comfy but the pillows were very hard. However, the room was nice and clean & it had a lovely bathroom. I had a massage which was meant to last 1 hour 15mins. It was really nice but the girl took a long time to come into the room once I was in the bed waiting for my massage. It also did not last the full amount of time which was disappointing. Again, after the treatment the girl told me to relax and she would get some water. She was away for awhile. I then got changed after she came back and went to the relaxation room. It was then I realised I was in the relaxation room 5mins before my treatment was meant to end.
Review 10:The cinema, pool and activities for children was excellent. We also had meals in the brassiere on both nights and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The food and our waiter Jose was terrific. Breakfast in the morning was excellent and offered a huge selection. My 4 year old did not want to leave. I had a massage which was lovely.
Review 11:3 of the 4 of us got diarrhoea and vomiting 48 hours into our stay. Awful experience. Also a child with chicken pox sitting in the reception area one day. I have subsequently been told by a number of friends they have had a tummy bug at crieff hydro. Not worth it!
Review 12:Unfortunately, whilst booking.com had our booking correct, when we arrived the hotel had messed up and no family room was availble for my daughter, husband and 2 very young children. They were squashed into a double room with 2 travel cots but no allowance was conceded on the bill. No stunning views from my room :o(
Review 13:Lovely hotel with a sense of luxury and good facilities.
Review 14:The chalets are very comfortable and well equipped. They are near all the activities around the hotel, and our grandchildren enjoyed living 'in the woods'.
Review 15:This was my 70 the birthday party for 11 close family members. The restaurant service and food so disappointing. No dedicated table service. Bar service at Mekle non existent. I have travelled the world and have never had to queue at a bar for a pre dinner cocktail. Disgraceful! My son ordered a Pizza from Picolo and suffered diarroeah and vomiting for 24 hrs. Breakfast: compared to my hotel/cruise experiences was well below average.
Review 16:Activities for all the family. Good Reception, House and Porterage.
Review 17:It was a shame you had to pay extra to take part in a lot of the activities - I thought more would be included in the price
Review 18:Very comfortable, beautiful place and setting.
Review 19:Our room was a little small but very clean and had everything . Did not like having to pay extra for Victoria spa should just be included !
Review 20:Great hotel, lovely staff , fantastic facility's great price . And great food
Review 21:Hotel was fantastic, facilities excellent, food great, and staff always ready to help. It is on the expensive side so it's not somewhere we could visit too often, but it is worth it if you can take advantage of the activities.
Review 22:It would help if it was clear how to use the Victorian Spa, which was great but we missed half an hour as had not been told slots needed to be booked.
Review 23:Very relaxing and excellent food, and helpful staaff, even when we changed our minds about things.
Review 24:Staff at breakfast seemed unorganised. We have to get up and ask ourselves for tea and toast both mornings. Bed was 2 beds put together which wasn't that comfortable.
Review 25:Breakfast food was really good. Enjoy the adult spa as well
Review 26:Front desk experience was just OK, felt perfunctory and no feeling of special service.
Review 27:Fantastic for a family visit. So many activities for our 5 and 8 year old sons. Activity staff were excellent with the kids.
Review 28:The steam room needs updated
Review 29:Liked everything. The staff were nice, the pool was good (just really busy), food was amazing and the beds were really comfy. Best sleep in a long time. Great place for relaxing.
Review 30:Bed not the greatest and if fuction on and in room 4 this is not good if you want early night thats only downfall
Review 31:Great time catered for every need lots to do food great great staff would return
Review 32:Bit of a walk from car park. Lifts need some ventilation (stuffy and claustrophobic). Bit busy if your looking for peace, quiet and solitude.
Review 33:Wide range of facilities. Great for families.
Review 34:Was not happy at paying £189 for room and then finding out we had to pay £10 each to use adult only pool. The pool only has a small steam room, small sauna and small spa bath. Didn't use them as other people monopolised. Disappointed.
Review 35:Room was fab. Food was really good and staff friendly and professional.
Review 36:We first stayed at the Crieff Hydro in 2002 when our twins were 9 and it was a great place for children and families then - it still is, and although we don't travel with young children any more, it's still fun to see young families having a great time.
Review 37:Wifi very slow and limited range. Room prices are quite expensive.
Review 38:Beautiful location. Plenty of on site activities to keep all ages occupied. Very pleasant staff.
Review 39:Cinema seats were very uncomfortable, not impressed with the shop, clothes terrible, jewellery terrible, no decent sweets or biscuits to take away as gifts. The shop lets the hotel down in my opinion.
Review 40:Food excellent, staff very helpful , we had an issues with the heat in the room and the TV not working, these were both fixed immediately.
Review 41:Amazing value for money.....so much to do you can't fit it all in.....luxurious without being ostentatious no wonder we've been visiting the Crieff Hydro with our family for 23 years!
Review 42:It's very child friendly and I would have preferred a quieter hotel. The chef cannot cook steak (he tried twice so I just put up with it being wrong) and the meal was overpriced.
Review 43:The facilities really surprised us... the place is huge.
Review 44:Ordered room service didn't get it! Had to leave a day early because my family was poorly& felt punished that I had to pay £165for nothing as they wouldn't waver the charge
Review 45:Great location for our family to celebrate wedding anniversary, &2 birthdays with our 18 month old granddaughter. She loved the ceilidh, & danced with all the other children. Our daughter says we should make it an annual event. She was very happy to put her dog in the kennels at the hotel.
Review 46:After being at Crieff for what would be my 18/19th time, I used to enjoy the proper formal dining, where shirt and tie was minimum, it was more of an occasion, this seems to have slipped in recent times.
Review 47:The array of facilities is amazing, everything is there you need.
Review 48:The kids pool and the activity prices
Review 49:Our kids are 14 and 19 so the 19 year old was too old for the slide in the pool , which was very small and busy . My 14 year old can't use the spa pool as its for over 18s only . The food and rooms are lovely and the staff are great . The activities are ridiculously expensive so we were a bit stuck . At £300 for one night plus meals and fuel , who can afford £50 pp for a quad bike ride ?
Review 50:Include a sensory area for young babies in your "big country" facility. Looked like a good setup for toddlers+ but nothing for babies.
Review 51:Very friendly helpful staff who always said good morning
Review 52:The food was generally good. My father found a good range of gluten free meals, toast etc on offer. The cooked breakfast, while offering a great variety and which otherwise would have been great, was tepid both mornings.
Review 53:Lovely rooms with big beds. The location is beautiful and easily accessible by car. The staff were very friendly and polite and prepared to go the extra mile.
Review 54:Excellent range of activities, something for everyone. Action Glen staff were very knowledgable and helpful. Food as always to an exceptional standard.
Review 55:Room was disappointing. Given a family room on first floor opposite lifts. A lot of noise from next room late at night and noise from lifts. Would request a different room in future.
Review 56:Food good and staff very helpful and friendly. Plenty variety with different restaurants and really enjoyed spa treatment and facilities.
Review 57:We were unable to get a massage due to being fully booked. Felt it was unfair to have to pay to use child free facilities. Better sign posts within the grounds to locate events/trails while on foot.
Review 58:staff were helpful and friendly, the grounds were nice and well maintained. Good choice for breakfast.
Review 59:had to wait 15 min for check in. No apology from staff, conference on and had to wait in ridiculously long queue with delegates, no dedicated check in for other guests. I have stayed in numerous hotels all of which have arranged conference specific check in which does not interfere with other guests. At 9.40 am many breakfast items had 'ran out' and were not replenished. On asking waiter for butter he unbelievably gave us used butter dish from opposite - it was full of toast crumbs and jam smears, very poor service and unacceptable.
Review 60:Rooms could do with a bit of an update.
Review 61:There is loads to do on the grounds of the hotel, all the sports you could need. Good options for eating and drinking. Staff really friendly and helpful.
Review 62:No prior warning at booking, or on arrival, that large conservatory room wouldn't be available. Evening meal was ok. but would have expected better. Also feel that £12.95 is far too much of a surcharge for a steak, which wasn't particularly special.
Review 63:Helpfullness of staff.
Review 64:Couldn't get a take-out coffee in the morning and the staff at breakfast were much less cordial than the front of house staff
Review 65:Friendly staff at check-in and the rooms were great
Review 66:the Meikle dining room - veg not cooked enough for us - do not like hard veg
Review 67:the friendly staff, most courteous and always ready to help - beautiful surroundings
Review 68:Children in main Meikle bar after 10pm meant no seats for us. Around 70% seats taken up by small children at this time when they could have used other areas of the hotel.
Review 69:Staff friendly and helpful. Lots to do and good food.
Review 70:Couldn't play pitch n putt because not available. Table tennis which we always enjoyed not available,
Review 71:Comfort, good food, beautiful surroundings. The Victorian spa pool.
Review 72:The staff. As I told the staff on check-out, from the moment my wife and I arrived, every single member of staff that we encountered seemed genuinely friendly and helpful.
Review 73:Although the room was excellent and clean we found the room far too hot with no means of cooling down. The window opened only a few inches and there was no air conditioning. Spoiled our nights sleep I'm afraid.
Review 74:Relaxing beautiful location. Excellent courthouse and welcoming staff.
Review 75:Wasn't bad experience but extractor wouldn't work in bathroom and thought the pillows were way to hard, hallway leading to room was a bit grubby, other than that had a fab stay at hotel.
Review 76:The service was spot on, food was excellent,
Review 77:Some of the internal furnishings like sofas and table are looking a little worn and could do with being replaced
Review 78:Stayed in the Mcinnes lodge and it was beautifully lux and had everything we needed , we stayed with 2 children under 5 and 2 older generation and we all loved it
Review 79:That we stayed only one night
Review 80:Efficient staff ar Brasserie, food quality very good. Nick the Manager deserves special mention, went out of his way to make birthday special
Review 81:Only issue we had was our room wasn't that easily accessible. It was on the 3rd floor which you couldn't get to by lift. Now while it wasn't a major problem and we didn't raise the issue so it's certainly not the hotels fault, if I went back I would request a different area of the hotel.
Review 82:The hotel is beautiful set in gorgeous grounds. Service was great, they make you feel really special! So much to do, there would be no chance you'd ever be bored! Food was absolutely amazing, we had dinner one night in the Brassiere and it was one of the most amazing meals! Nothing's too fancy, but fantastic!!! Paying to go to the Victorian spa is well worth it!!!
Review 83:Not being able to add a tip to card payments in restaurant and salon as you can do everywhere else you go.
Review 84:Excellent facilities.Fiona in beauty salon worthy of mention as she was great as was our waiter at dinner Peter.
Review 85:Our meal in the Meikle Restaurant was excellent for adults but the children menu was poor - as my grandson has allergies his only option was beefburger and chips no veg provided and the cost was £6.50.
Review 86:The facilities within this hotel are excellent and suitable for all ages, we were with our daughter, son-in-law and grandson for a family birthday and had a great stay, would definitely recommend the hotel.
Review 87:Everything was just perfect, our spa treatments, lovely walks around grounds and delicious meals. All staff were so helpful, even arranging a meal that wasn't on the menu for me.This was a Mother's day gift from my daughter,we enjoyed our stay very much.
Review 88:The room we were giving was nothing short of horrendous, first of all it was far too hot we had to keep the windows wide open at night, then through the night we both didn't get much sleep as we heard the lift going up and down as it was right beside our room. It was also really disappointing facing out towards the tennis courts instead of the beutiful view out the other side.
Review 89:Breakfast was first class, the activities around the place made sure you never got bored, overall nice chilled out hotel
Review 90:A bad experience with the food in Piccolos but staff were great and rectified
Review 91:The whole Hotel food activities entertainment cleanliness and choices of relaxing or busy
Review 92:Very child orientated, 100s of kids so the restaurants were like school canteens. Bed made in morning but that was all, bin not emptied, cups not cleaned, tea and coffee not replenished. Did complain about the room and the fact that there was no hot water, but only the water issue was sorted. No adult only bar or restaurant. There was an adult pool but you had to pay £10 per person to use it.
Review 93:Bed linen immaculate. Staff nice
Review 94:The hotel had been taken over by children. I have never seen so many children in a hotel before and they spoilt my visit. I was unable to visit the spa as they had taken it over and to visit the adult only spa was an extra £10, when I was already paying £149 per night for the room - over priced
Review 95:closing the door of my room for some peace and quiet
Review 96:Internet a bit slow to connect, but nothing major!
Review 97:We met up with our family (who were staying in one of the apartments). Great facilities for guests of all ages!
Review 98:Parents taking their kids into the Sauna. There needs to be regular checks to stop this for their wellbeing and the comfort of this using the facility,
Review 99:The staff, the hotel, the Winter Garden gin with chilli and lime, the walk to the golf club, the proximity to Crieff.
Review 100:At dinner in the Brasserie, my girfriend ordered Sea Bream and particularly asked that it be without head and tail - filletted. It arrived intact and was filletted at our table which put her off and it was a bit cold when she was served with it.
Review 101:Relaxing
Review 102:There was nothing bad about our stay. Looked great for families with children too! Lots of entertainment and facilities for kids.
Review 103:It was a gorgeous room with a lovely clean bathroom. Staff were all helpful and friendly and facilities and grounds were excellent. Would definitely stay again.
Review 104:Just one small niggle, booking for brasserie on first night was muddled. Probably a bit of a blessing in disguise as it was pretty noisy that evening. It was fine the following evening though.
Review 105:You could stay here for a week and never leave the hotel, there is so much organised and available, particularly for children. Extremely comfortable and food excellent, including breakfast.
Review 106:If I had to make a comment it would be only to say that the television reception was poor and the breakfast buffet could have been hotter.
Review 107:Beautiful location. Great staff. The hotel was spotless with so much to do and see.
Review 108:The room we were given was very nice room16 but it was beside the delivery entrance and refuge bins hence it was very noisy from early morning to late at night.
Review 109:We enjoyed the atmosphere of the hotel and surroundings with very good staff.
Review 110:Hotel trying to be kid friendly but kids menu overly complex for young kids and fussy children and no place to get savoury supper snacks. Game zone closed around eight so older kids bored. Pool and changing area a bit basic.
Review 111:Great facilities and very proffesional staff
Review 112:meal in the miekle restaurant very poor! Had to pay extra £13.95 on top of £21.00 for a very salty steak!!!! Breakfast well I have had better breakfast at premier inn very poor for 4* more 1*
Review 113:The area
Review 114:- Knowledge of staff misleading and erroneous. - King size bed in fact two doubles pushed together. - Meikle restaurant staff made several errors when serving and presenting bill. Charged for coffee we thought was complimentary (not advised charge applied) and food overcooked.
Review 115:- Bathroom was lovely, bath and shower very comforting. - Size of room. - Facilities and dining options. - Surrounding area.
Review 116:it was not a bad experience, but we would have preferred a bath, not just a shower. There were a lot of children noisily running passed our bedroom a lot.
Review 117:The location and the building were lovely. The food was good, as was the service.
Review 118:I did not like the fact you had to pay for the use of the Victorian Spa. The main pool was full of children and their parents/carers and it was impractical to use it for a swim so I paid to use they alternative pool.
Review 119:The choice of restaurants The location was peaceful Great for families.
Review 120:Bed was horrendous you could tell it was two beds put together as matress on one side dipped down, there was a hair in the bath, there was a door connecting to the room nextdoor which you could here everything. Cobwebs on ceiling
Review 121:The victorian spa and scenery. Restaurant and food were good.
Review 122:The hotel was very cold in all parts of it, it was cold outside but very cold even in the restaurant and bar areas
Review 123:Fantastic facilities for all ages, lots to do even though the weather was awful.
Review 124:The jacuzzi was closed early & it spolit out experience of the Victorian Spa
Review 125:I really loved the setting, the choice of things to do was amazing & I'd love to come back. The staff were so helpful & really friendly.
Review 126:We were not informed that our room would not be in the main building of the hotel. This was really inconvenient for obvious reasons
Review 127:In General very good.
Review 128:Crieff Hydro exceeded our expectations. Our girls had a great time. The facilities were fantastic and the staff were all very helpful. We will most certainly be back.
Review 129:Evening entertainment in lounge poor for such a large hotel. Lots geared towards families but not so much for couples on their own. Also, prior to visit guests should be advised to book for spa as this is the second time i have come and tried to book on day of arrival and not been able to get in during my stay so very disappointed
Review 130:Comfortable room, lovely staff
Review 131:There was insufficient hot water on our second night and we were unable to shower. Contacted staff and basically a supply & demand issue!!
Review 132:Plenty to do
Review 133:because the menu stayed the same for the duration of our stay we found that the choice of a more plain option was not readily available resulting in a visit to the brasserie on the second night. This was ok but we would have preferred the quietness of the dining room.
Review 134:friendly and courteous staff.Nothing was ever a bother to them. Food was excellent, well cooked and presented. If you wanted to be active you had lots of choice otherwise a seat in the wintergardens with a book was a real chill out.
Review 135:I can't think of anything which I didn't like.
Review 136:I have been going to 'The Hydro' for about 40 years, and I think that over the years it has improved a lot. I particularly like the freedom which it affords, pleasant staff and the general ambiance of the hotel. The walks are good too!
Review 137:Room location (between 2 lifts rm 239) noisy late evening guests using lifts, reported situation to management on leaving hotel
Review 138:Location and facilities friendly staff
