Reviews for Knock Castle Hotel & Spa
Review 1:My score is 0 not 2.5. Absolutely the worst stay in any hotel I've ever been to. From the service at the front desk which was atrocious. The waiting time for a room that was horrendous. Outside our room there was piles and piles of rubbish and dirty towels. We were looking forward to an authentic Scottish evening and ended up in an office style room with the vibe of a hospital. It was so bad I took photos so please look before you think about booking. This is what the Hotel is really like. I wouldn't have written this had we had good service as I don't blame the staff for this so called luxury spa.
Review 2:Disappointed with accommodation, very expensive has a long way to go to achieve four stars. Buffet breakfast very poor. New year eve/Hogmanay unable to eat either in restaurant or bar if not pre-booked very disappointing. Will not be returning.
Review 3:The location was excellent. The hotel an amazing building with an impressive entrance and reception area. Staff were very helpful and food was great catering for everyone. The Rooftop restaurant was beautifully located and had a lovely ambiance.
Review 4:A la carte menu just a little pricey but the Bar menu is a reasonable alternative
Review 5:The staff - Sammantha in Reception and David in the Restaurant Both were extremely friendly and welcoming The Breakfast was freshly cooked and so good that we will return on the breakfast quality alone! The EGG capsule relaxation and body massage Pod is wonderful and a must try
Review 6:A home from home. Friendly, kind and attentive staff that made us feel right at home. The spa facilities and the New Year Gala will be a fond memory for us for many years to come. The dinning was the best we have ever enjoyed with a fantastic view and good wine list. They even had several local Ales available. All in all a wonderful experience for us. Many thanks.
Review 7:No food available on Tuesday? We arrived early at 1pm and asked if we could have a meal in the restaurant or a bar meal, we then asked if we could have high tea as we were leaving at 7pm to attend a wedding reception at The Hydro only to be told no food available as it was Tuesday.
Review 8:Comfortable room.
Review 9:Rooms in the extension are comfortable but a little bland. The original building is stunning, so to be put in the 1960s extension is a bit of a let-down.
Review 10:Great menu, very helpful staff
Review 11:Breakfast poor - bacon grey and undercooked, and order wrong. Chewing gum in shower soap holder. Too expensive for what it was, worth about half what we paid
Review 12:Absolutely not a thing, oh 1thing update pillows.
Review 13:Well there was not anything we didn't like ? Staff was fantastic? Anything you want they took care of you.
Review 14:Only downside to our trip was the bed mattress was old and not comfortable to sleep in.
Review 15:The staff at Knock castle were very friendly and very accommodating. The setting was beautiful and the food was lovely.
Review 16:The staff were not friendly or helpful, need some training. Food was not of a good standard and very overpriced.
Review 17:Swimming pool was a good size but away from the hotel and awkward to get to.
Review 18:I would have liked more pillows on the bed, they were a bit flat, but that was the only thing.
Review 19:Very friendly and helpful staff, did their best to make your stay a pleasure. I had a small problem that was dealt with promptly and to my complete satisfaction.
Review 20:The buffet table at breakfast looked a little sorry for itself but my scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were generously sized.
Review 21:Friendly staff and a lovely Scottish baronial style castle.
Review 22:Bed not great and some areas tired and the weather was dreadful so no view from the rooftop restaurant.
Review 23:Pool in wooded glade with no one else there. Staff efficiency great.
Review 24:Not allowed to bring your own food or refreshments to hotel. Corkage of £20 if you want to bring a bottle of wine to the hotel. Messages in room such as the one stating that missing towels will be automatically billed as though their guests were thieves.
Review 25:The pool.
Review 26:The pool & spa facilities are located in a separate building (down a lot of stairs) so you have to go outside to use them. None of the other leisure activities in the brochure are actually offered on site.
Review 27:Very Good staff, nice room, quiet location.
Review 28:Hotel was empty. Only saw another 6 guests during our 2 night stay..... Had asked for a room in the main castle but were put right at back of the 60's extension block overlooking their dumping ground!.... Paid £140 per night for B&B which did not seem good value as we had stayed in better hotels on our tour for £80 per night. Maybe we should have taken advantage of the leisure facilities/spa etc as we had obviously paid for these..... Our own fault really!!
Review 29:Nice looking hotel and everything about it was just ok. Didn't use the spa/pool. Nice roof terrace bar and restaurant. Good breakfast.
Review 30:That the pool was separate from the hotel. It put us off using it.
Review 31:The staff were really courteous & nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. The food was excellent.
Review 32:Felt there was not enough staff. On saturday night hotel was full and reception staff were serving meals, clearing tables, and serving in bar.A bit hectic
Review 33:Enjoyed the food and room very comfortable. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 34:The menu in the room was not at all like the menu in the restaurant in price range and variety of dishes. The table cloth was so long that it slid on the table causing a possible spill hazard There was a dress code and no IT policy in the restaurant but neither was enforced
Review 35:The luxury of the hotel and the quality of the food.
Review 36:we booked three rooms expecting to spend the evening together, taking in the atmosphere of this Victorian baronial building. Did not realise when booking that two of the rooms in the 'lodge' were in a completely separate building, down the road, with no staff. We were eventually given another room in the 'lodge', so that the six of us could be together. Our room was very comfortable but looking over the narrow street on the side. As we were the only guests in the 'lodge', which had 6 or 7 rooms, we could have been given a room overlooking the garden.
Review 37:excellent breakfast. the rooms in the 'lodge' were very spacious. Cannot comment on the main building, as we only had breakfast there.
Review 38:Small room, some staff continuously used the word "yous" at the end of every sentence. Was told off for allowing my mobile to ring in the dining room. Will not be back.
Review 39:The quality of the bedrooms compares to the best I have stayed in but the real surprise was the excellence of the food. Quite frankly one of the best meals I have eaten. Each mouthful was a delight, from starter to dessert. These people know their business and its shows.
Review 40:The staff they were all so friendly and made us and Mo our dog feel very welcome. Excellent location and food. We would recommend the hotel and definitely stay again.
Review 41:I liked everything. Could not fault it. What ever I wanted, the answer was yes no problem and done with out any fuss to an exceptionally high standard. The food was out of this world. To cap it off I left at 4.55am to get back to London and they even made me a packed lunch !!
Review 42:Our room was very small and we queried if it was actually an "Executive room" but unfortunately it was and there were no other rooms available apparently, even though there did not appear to be many people in the Hotel.
Review 43:Good spa facilities. Really nice breakfast. Nice lounge rooms. Some of the staff were really nice and helpful (David in the bar), some were more aloof. Very nice gardens and impressive building.
Review 44:the dinner food was not to my taste so i had thr same meal on the 2 nights the third night we never stayed we went home due to family commitments
Review 45:the staff were fantasic to us
Review 46:Small room. Small bed. Overpriced for what we got. Pool needs a refurb. External at back of hotel (extension area) needs a refurb.
Review 47:Breakfast service - generous portions & hot. Staff reasonably bright & helpful
Review 48:Not much too complain about other than it could be a little less formal.
Review 49:Lovely views from bedroom overlooking hills and great views from rooftop restaurant.peaceful and quiet hotel with opportunity to relax and enjoy gardens and swimming pool facilities.lots of nice walks around Crieff.
Review 50:Lomond Double room, not value for money. Drummond Suite has a large shower but it would let down small shower head. Would be much better with a rainful shower head!
Review 51:We booked to stay in a Lomond double room. Upon arrival we were disappointed with the quality of this room. The ceiling reminded us of being back at school with polystyrene blocks and the decor was unappealing. We then upgraded our room for a fee to the Drummond Suite which was like stepping into a different hotel. The suite was amazing. It had a huge bathroom with a walk in bath. The bedroom itself was large and a had a four poster bed. The room was also well decorated and felt like luxury.
Review 52:No one on reception for almost 10 minutes on arrival. Toilet paper was certainly not as luxurious as everything else!! Some areas of the hotel looking tired.
Review 53:Booked the same day and staff upgraded our room to a suite - Awesome! Beautiful castle, amazing roof top bar/ restaurant with views across the trees and mountain ranges. Super pool and leisure facilities. Rivals Cameron house on our list of great places to stay.
Review 54:We stayed in the Lodge witch was away from the hotel. It was run down creeky, dirty, untidy,tv not working, furniture all stained and marked, tv sitting on stool with cables hanging out the back. It felt like we were staying in a very expensive Hostel!
Review 55:We had an excellent meal on the 7 course set menu in the roof top restaraunt with nice wine and the staff were very friendly.
Review 56:The only fault we found was that the dinner menu was the same for the 2 nights we were there
Review 57:We really enjoyed the pool and spa facilities. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was very good.
Review 58:I was charged for the Bread and water with my evening meal without being advised of the extra cost involved
Review 59:The hotel and the spa facilities were clean and tidy and the staff were friendly
Review 60:The leisure facilities were good, however the changing rooms were hot and humid. What is the egg in the corridor all about? it looked totally out of place.
Review 61:The look of the place and the location are amazing. The staff are so attentive and are a credit to the hospitality industry, nothing was too much trouble. the views from the restaurant and the food were great Great value
Review 62:Bedding in lodge very poor. Duvet very very thin and not large enough for the bed. Although the actual room was perfect the cleanliness and furnishings were not up to standard expected. Same menu for dinner two nights very poor when mains on offer were venison,rabbit,halibut--strange. Bread served was day old on second day--very poor for this standard.
Review 63:Having said all that day one was excellent meal wise. Arriving at 3pm however I would expect the room to be ready. Staff obliging. Outside bar area and pool facilities excellent
Review 64:Bed uncomfortable, linen threadbare, staff unattentive. Unwelcoming with lots of signs warning what you can't do. Receptionist launched into rehearsed speech asking if you enjoyed your stay but didn't take a breath to let you respond.
Review 65:Location and crieff in general
Review 66:Bed not comfortable and too small. Pillows needed renewed and bedding either not ironed or had not been changed from previous occupancy! Paintwork on walls almost ready for redecoration - slightly grubby and floor in bathroom starting to lift in corners - shame because rest of bathroom was lovely.
Review 67:Use of spa facilities were included in price
Review 68:Small smoking area could have had a few tables like the other terrace. Also a cover would have been appreciated.
Review 69:Staff were excellent and very keen to accomodate.
Review 70:No mattress or pillow protectors on bed. No bedside light. Window not easy to open therefore room stuffy and unable to sleep.
Review 71:Efficient friendly helpful staff. The relaxed atmosphere. Good food in a rooftop restaurant with stunning views.
Review 72:Great location friendly and attentive staff.reception gave us a warming arrival and was shown to out very spacious luxury room, nice touch from the start eat in hotel both nights great food and service with a smile
Review 73:Just minor grumbles - bed could have been bigger - I'm not that tall (just under 6 feet). Also could have done without constantly being asked if everything was ok in restaurant, once is fine.
Review 74:Loved the spa that had all the facilities needed. The roof-top restaurant was excellent (both food and view)
Review 75:The food from the a la carte menu in the restaurant is fine but overpriced, and they didn't seem to know what a 'rare' steak is. The service in the restaurant is quite sourly and lacks a bit of class if they want to charge the prices they do
Review 76:The accommodation is fine and good value for money. The modern bathrooms are excellent. The views from the rooftop bar are stunning and the gardens are nice and extremely natural
Review 77:I was shown around by the Receptionist who had a thorough knowledge of all the suites/rooms. They were all beautifully decorated and each one individually presented to a high standard. The staff were very nice and friendly and obviously enjoyed working at the hotel. The Rooftop Restaurant had lovely panoramic views.to enjoy while eating breakfast. . The views from the rooftop restaurant were panoramic and
Review 78:Can't think of anything, but hotel is up a hill for anyone with walking problems although alternative roads available into Town Centre.
Review 79:Location very quiet which suited us. Staff very helpful and friendly. Pool lovely and warm.
Review 80:It was difficult to turn off the bathroom heating. This was necessary to keep the bedroom cool for sleeping. It was very sunny and warm (hot for Scotland) so we kept the bedroom window open to keep it cool (< 20C).
Review 81:All the staff had that same air of quiet and polite service. They made an effort to remember our names rather than our room number.
Review 82:The welcome and getting my pic taken with Bailey! Very good to see Malcolm Copland at reception. He owns his position and is both professional and friendly
Review 83:Decor and furniture tired. Bathroom out dated with rusty leak mark on floor, ceiling water mark. Rooms therefore significantly over priced. Leisure facilities dated. Changing area poor.
Review 84:On arrival staff helpful. Change of room accommodated without fuss. Table service good.
Review 85:The bed is small not comfy enough, could feel the spring inside. The restaurant was fully booked at the time we went there, we had to drive to other places for dinner.
Review 86:Staff are nice and helpful.
Review 87:We upgraded to a 'castle delux room' and found it to be very noisy. There was some kind of fan on the (very unsightly) roof outside that started up at various points during the night and woke us up. When we complained about this we had our bill reduced by the cost of a bottle of wine but I felt the upgrade fee of £50 should have been refunded after a very poor night's sleep. I would add that given the slightly shabby appearance of the hotel itself and the lack of decent social spaces, I think the room was very overpriced to begin with. We ended up paying £259 for dinner, bed and breakfast and I have been to far nicer hotels for that cost.
Review 88:The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 89:The drive from Manchester or the M6!!
Review 90:From the very start all staff members wanted to help!!! I booked the wrong day and needed to changed to the day after and nothing was to much trouble which generally a BIG problem if you stay at one of the big chain hotels..
Review 91:Hotel was a bit tired in a fair number of places ( our room Kenmore ) was not as clean as i would expect in such a hotel and it had a venetian blind with a broken slat , not good ! Food in restaurant was good but again room needing freshened up, we had a table with oils on the window ledge that should have been removed long ago.
Review 92:First impression of building lovely. Gardens were beautiful. Staff we met were helpful and friendly.
Review 93:We enjoyed delicious meals in the rooftop restaurant with beautiful views. The service was excellent with a professional friendly approach by all staff. We particularly enjoyed discovering the Strathearn gin!
Review 94:We paid £149 for a double room which upon entering thought it looked run down. I sat on the bed and noticed the mattress had no spring left whatsoever. You could actually see the indents left where people sleep. Definitely not value for money, you could get a premier Inn for half the price with a decent bed
Review 95:The location was ideal for a family get-together. The staff were very pleasant and the chef/general manager drove us to the Crieff Hydro to meet others instead of phoning for a taxi.
Review 96:Light fitting fell off roof in shower and hit me on the head - offered bottle of wine to apologize. I'd prefer no bump on my head. Room not ready when we arrived - offered a drink in the bar to apologize Cleaning products, dirty sheets and mop bucket sitting outside our room the entire time we were there No children in restaurant after 7p.m. policy didn't seem to be adhered to Spa is ok, could do with a revamp
Review 97:Good food
Review 98:The hotel is a bit tired and could do with attention in the rooms. Ours had cabling from the tv dangling down the wall when a bit of trunking would easily have cheaply tidied this up. A 6 way power bar lay on the floor and the tv was plugged into this. It also meant that this was the only place to plug in the hair dryer and kettle. The kettle lead was so short that you had to put the kettle on the floor to boil it. The duvet was sparse in terms of filling with non consistent density across the duvet. In all not what I would expect from a property with this star rating. The owner and the general manager were present in the rooftop restaurant on our last night, but ignored all of the guests. Very unprofessional.
Review 99:The staff and food here were excellent.
Review 100:Apart from the Car parking being a bit tight could not fault anything else
Review 101:The Drummond suite fantastic the staff so friendly and the food was outstanding
Review 102:Breakfast was a bit greasy, and bit of a let down compared to the fantastic dinner. Would have benefited from slightly more spread out dinner courses.
Review 103:Staff very attentive
Review 104:The overflow restaurant had been opened due to the hotel being very busy so we were grateful to get a table at all, but having booked for 8pm, it was long after that before we got any food. Throughout the meal there was rarely a member of staff in sight as they were simply too busy covering the main restaurant upstairs.
Review 105:I was going to be arriving at the hotel having just proposed to my girlfriend. In the lead-up to my stay things couldn't have been better with Mr Henderson ensuring that we would be looked after having just popped the question! There were a few internal communication issues which were all eventually sorted. All-in-all we had a lovely nights.
Review 106:Everything was excellent, from check in to leaving. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room lovely and warm, very clean, nice tray of tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, lots of choice and freshly cooked.
Review 107:"No electronics" rule at the restaurant! Need more staff as waiting at reception and restaurant on more than one occasion.
Review 108:Great food at the restaurant. Nice room.
Review 109:The pool was closed for repair and we were not informed of this or we would not have booked. Very disappointing as we are keen swimmers.
Review 110:The view from bar/restaurant, Fab breakfast choice. Lots of coffee, hot chocolate and water provided in room.
Review 111:The only complaint was that the pool was having a refurbishment and was closed on our last day, which we were not informed about.
Review 112:Accommodation great facilities very good. Staff were excellent. Meals were made to order - compliments to the chef. Swimming pool, jacuzzi and spa really good.
Review 113:Staff were all very friendly helpful & accommodating... Food was first class .. Facilities & everything first class will certainly be going back
Review 114:food mediocre, was expecting some fine cuisine, could see into kitchen whilst sitting in restaurant and that was off putting - one member of staff smelled of cigarette smoke
Review 115:Reception staff excellent, polite and professional, very accommodating
Review 116:The canned Christmas music which was changed after we complained, however the canned music replacement was not much better. Need to improve .
Review 117:We were delighted to receive an upgrade to a suite .
Review 118:I had asked for a nice room as it was my husbands 50 th birthday . The room we were allocated was in the new part of the hotel and was very average. The real fire in the hall wasn't lit which was disappointing as it was very cold outside. Would have been lovely to come back to a nice roaring fire .
Review 119:The restaurant was very nice and the staff very helpful
Review 120:Nothing to fault
Review 121:Everything was excellent clean friendly staff pool food everything the best place I have stayed at very good value for money have recommended it to friends already
Review 122:The canned music......please turn it down, don't have it everywhere, and program some nice tunes....the selection was computer generated rubbish! ( also, the table cloths are so long in the dining room, that they tangle up in your feet)
Review 123:It was a fun place, I was the only person there. staff was friendly, thanks for the upgrade, the single room was a bit claustrophobic. I would stay again.
Review 124:for the price of the room I'd expect a toothbrush and toothpaste. and when I asked if they had any available, not to be told to go to the supermarket down the road. I've had better service in travel lodges. room was "deluxe" but some old furniture does not make it so.
Review 125:location, breakfast and some members of staff
Review 126:Residents bar area was small and only attended on demand by receptionist. No sky television.
Review 127:Atmosphere, Original features, gardens mountain views, swimming pool and sauna. food
Review 128:The room was pokey. The bar was in a cupboard. The furniture in the lounge was worn and the room itself grim. The breakfast was a disgrace. This is one of the most overpriced hotels I have come across.
Review 129:The Pool area was very good.
Review 130:The sitting room with the piano was all wrong. A fireplace with a wood fire would have made it more comfortable.
Review 131:The roaring fire in the hall. The food in the restaurant was freshly cooked and hot and an excellent selection to choose from.
Review 132:We did not feel that Knock Castle quite achieved what it advertised, certainly not 'elegant luxury'. On arrival we had to insist very firmly on being given the room we had booked rather than something inferior. There seemed to be a shortage of staff.
Review 133:Charming room. Restaurant staff very good, food excellent.
Review 134:Pool changing dirty and room had broken window latch and bulbs out in bathroom . Invaded in the "quiet" dining room by 23 women on a hen night .... vloud couldnt hold a conversation ended up eating rest of meal in our room
Review 135:Food was very good
