Reviews for Munstone House Guest House
Review 1:Worth knowing there's no evening meal option so you'll have to go out, it's not far into Hereford though it is a drive. The breakfast wasn't great, limited options and just hot water and sachets to make your own tea and coffee etc.
Review 2:The room was excellent, four poster bed and jacuzzi with a TV, special!
Review 3:It was really dirty. There were loads and loads of flies in the overhead light, hairs of multiple people in the bathroom, and the bedding smelled really bad. I felt very uncomfortable there.
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:Nothing :)
Review 6:Lovely atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff who gave you privacy but attended to any needs. Beautiful building and location. For me, it was perfect.
Review 7:Although it stated on the site that there was a restaurant there was no restaurant open at the hotel for an evening meal and this is not convenient for a solo female traveller
Review 8:Lovely property, lovely location, beautiful rooms and great breakfast
Review 9:We were due to stay in the property on a Saturday night. We had booked on the Wednesday night. On the Friday night at 10.15pm I received a call saying that they would be unable to accommodate us the next day. Cue panic as nearly £100 in train fares would potentially be wasted. They did provide us with the number of an alternative hotel, which turned out to be far better located and very good service, although we were only able to book it on the Saturday morning as the switchboard had closed by the time we were contacted by Munstone House. Thankfully, our train fare wasn't wasted and we had a lovely weekend in Hereford, but Munstone House did their best to prevent us from doing so.
Review 10:First morning no plates no cups no sausage no eggs had to ask, on the night there was a wedding on, so abit noisy till 11.30 on the Sunday morning couldn't fault the breakfast delious
Review 11:Great hotel lovely grounds beautiful room very spacious and nicely decorated
Review 12:I found the hospitality lacking. We were shown to our room. We never saw any member of staff after, even the bar was closed!! Please if you have a dog could you please make sure it does not irritate your guests. No table was laid for us at breakfast. I asked for cornflakes and told that is what we have!!
Review 13:The room was pleasant.
Review 14:On arrival we were told the shower didn't work and we discovered the bath didn't hold water properly either. The bathroom had just been refurbished which if everything had worked would have been great. When we pointed out the problem with the bath the staff were helpful and immediately provided us with an alternative room to shower in.
Review 15:Lovely character accommodation and excellent rural location near Hereford.
Review 16:Rooms dirty and damp, kept up all night by hen party next door, bathroom floor was soaked due to leak, breakfast had run out before the end of service. Staff seemed over worked, when I consulted the manager upon paying. She called me a liar was very rude and offered no discount whatsoever!!
Review 17:Nice place, elegant rooms
Review 18:Breakfast hours too short and early. Check out time also too early. No food allowed in the rooms which would be fine but no afternoon or evening meals are served and the hotel is a little out of the way. However those were small grievances and we were overall very happy with our stay.
Review 19:Gorgeous room & fab breakfast. Location is great if you have a car. Lovely friendly staff. It was very quiet probably due to us staying mid-week in the off-season.
Review 20:No staff, restaurant and bar closed!! Seemed to be set up for functions only, run on a budget!!
Review 21:Beautiful location & hotel, very clean and tidy!! Great breakfast!!
Review 22:The staff did there best, but they were overworked. It seemed to us they run the bed and breakfast side on a shoestring and concentrated more on weddings and corporate events. They do not employ enough staff to provide a good service for the guest house, (e.g. our room was not serviced until we alerted the staff on one of the days, we did not receive a good personal welcome and the breakfast was on the hot-plate for some time.Vey unappetising. There seemed to be no management on the site overnight. Also there was no hand rail on the second flight of stairs). The management must shoulder their responsibility in this. They have not responded to our concerns, (expressed through talking to management face to face before we left, e-mails and phone calls). These have been ignored They seemed to have brushed everything under the carpet. Not good.
Review 23:The setting was lovely and the building impressive, though we could not see out of the window due to shrubbery blocking the view. Needs more care to detail.
Review 24:Reception was a bit cold, had to wait 5mins before anyone came. No apologies.. Lovely bathroom, tried to run a bath, 10 mins and only 2" of water, shower was poor.
Review 25:Location, breakfast
Review 26:Managers attitude, would not address any issues, no hot water available. Was told we cold not use bar facilities and when asked where we could get a drink we were told to go to the pub down the road. There were no staff available on the front desk as all were involved in a wedding. We were made to feel like we were imposing and getting in the way rather than paying guests. We tried to speak to the manager but were told she wasn't available for four hours after our check out time.
Review 27:The room and grounds
Review 28:Arrived late afternoon, taken to our room which is away from the main building. The room was freezing, took all night for the room to warm up, only one radiator for such a large room. Stayed for two nights, room was not cleaned which I find unacceptable considering how much I paid for the room.
Review 29:Room was true to its description large and spacious, ideal location for centre of Hereford by taxi. Main building was nicely presented, nice grounds. Ok breakfast
Review 30:Unfortunately the lovely jacuzzi bath had a fair few hairs which put me off using it! After a 5-6 hour drive we were dying for a drink but there was no where to get one from as the bar was closed at 8pm when we arrived. I understand it's a guest house but it would be helpful if there was a phone in the rooms where you could contact a member of staff of you do need something. The breakfast wasn't great either. Not much choice and not enough hot food was served for all of the guests! We were lucky to have got 1 piece of bacon each! My friend who booked months before me for the same evening had a phone call the same evening and was told that her room was no longer available due to plumbing issues. I realise the house is probably quite old however I'm not convinced that this was genuine excuse as on reading other people's reviews this seams to be a common occurrence and conveniently the hotel have a sister hotel they seam to be palming the guests off into! Very sneaky and not trust worthy.
Review 31:It was a surprise on arrival to find we had a jacuzzi bath and TV in the bathroom. Such a nice touch! The room was huge and spacious too.
Review 32:A bit too far outside of Hereford to walk in. Buffet style breakfast. Very quiet - bar closed when staff went home at about 9.
Review 33:Lovely setting. Well furnished.
Review 34:Very low water pressure. Funny tasting milk at breakfast time.
Review 35:Very helpful staff (we went to a wedding, forgot our key, receptionist got up at midnight approx to let us in in very good humour. She was really kind.)
Review 36:It was no hot water in our room which was advertised as a luxury room. It was impossible to sleep in the room as the music from a party/wedding event was very loud until 1 AM. It was not just some music, it was a very loud music that we could hardly hear the TV in our room. It is shocking why that room was sold and allocated to us in the first place if the management knew that an event will be hosted. There was no refund nor an apology from the management for this shamble. Absolutely disappointing experience.
Review 37:never ever had a head board squeak as much as in alan suite. went for breakfast on our first morning at 08-15 food cold, second morning thought get there early to get hot food, still the same cold food. our suite had nearly as many insects inside as out. woodlice, spiders and earwigs. when first arrived the unoccupied reception desk had a dead grasshopper on it when we took key back two days later dead grasshopper still there.
Review 38:leaving
Review 39:Breakfast average, bacon tasteless and under cooked. Bed not made as we were getting ready to go out to a wedding at lunchtime but I did expect it to be made later, and tea/ coffee supplies not renewed.
Review 40:A beautiful room and ensuite .
Review 41:We were initially welcomed via an intercom. When our hostess met us, we felt like we were an inconvence. There are no facilities for an evening meal here - we were recommended to order pizza in. Munstone House is a few miles outside Hereford so it would be a car or taxi ride into town.
Review 42:This is a wedding venue that acts as a B&B during the week. The rooms are fantastic, but are starting to look a little tired around the edges. However for what you pay, this is very good value for money. Breakfast is good.
Review 43:A little tired in places but this didn't detract from the elegant and beautifully propotioned room we were given. We still felt it was good value for money.
Review 44:Beautiful hotel with period features. The decor was lovely and in keeping with the age of the property. Our room had lovely large sash windows and a four poster bed. Breakfast options included a full English buffet which was just what we needed the day after the late night celebrations of a friend wedding at the nearby Lyde Court!
Review 45:Room 7. The Four Poster Bed has no bed head, you cannot sit up in bed and watch TV
Review 46:The garden surroundings to our room. The attractive dining room where we had our family dinner party. The staff were very helpful.
Review 47:Nothing not to like.
Review 48:A fantastic hotel for a fantastic price. A palace in fact! Friendly staff. Opulent rooms. Delicious breakfast. Looking forward to staying again sometime. Highly recommended if you like a high quality, traditional hotel.
Review 49:Poor showers! Breakfast was very average. Service non existent. Much more of a B&B rather than a hotel, which it calls itself. Bar is always closed, so we had no option to have a drink & relax on the night we arrived.
Review 50:Great location for wedding at Lyde Court, nice big bedroom & bathroom. Lovely setting & surroundings.
Review 51:No evening restaurant facilities, although the lady who was in charge said she might open the restaurant soon. No visible staff around during the evening. No room service. Lack of general information in the room.
Review 52:The room, bathroom, breakfast, location, peace and quiet.
Review 53:It was not made clear that this was a wedding venue rather than an hotel, hence during the week the place seemed empty with only one member of staff ,no food or bar unless you requested it and no atmosphere whatsoever.
Review 54:The Bed and the room were comfortable to relax in.
Review 55:bathrooms not that practical, lack of storage space in bedrooms, the lack of a restaurant.
Review 56:the outward appearance of the building the grounds and the location of the property.
Review 57:Old style TV with set top box went out years ago. Should be upgraded to more modern equipment. Breakfast self served from Bain Marie could be improved with more choice of egg dishes other than just scrambled. Final eight stairs to Buttercup and Rose suites do not have a handrail and I consider them dangerous.
Review 58:EVERYTHING. Great building, pleasant, helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Close to town but far enough away to be private and quiet.
Review 59:Rude owner. Breakfast below standard with only instant coffee. Wedding going on with DJ under our room until just after midnight. When we asked for music to be turned down owner said it was a specialist wedding hotel and described as such in her advertising: checked her website and could not find mention of this nor does your website indicate this. Price of room taken from my credit card before I had checked bill and only handwritten invoice given - had to ask for the credit card slip. We were glad to leave.
Review 60:Location as described. Bed comfortable and room well appointed with lovely views.
Review 61:Slight confusion over the booking. Not possible to have dinner for two nights. Neither was a real problem & easily resolved.
Review 62:Beautiful room, exquisite decor and surroundings, very welcoming ambiance throughout.
Review 63:No stand up shower just mixer taps which you had to climb into large bath, but this was not a major problem.
Review 64:Rooms have different styles big ours had view over countryside
Review 65:Well where do I start...from Checking in it was horrendous had to ring a bell and waited for at least 10 mins before I had to go try find someone. Got shown my room that was it to then be told we have a wedding on got to go and that was it. I goes into the room and you could tell straight away it hasn't been cleaned properly for some time. The bathroom was really dirty, shower curtain was full of stains, there was also stains on the floor. The hot water ran really slow, turned the jucuzzi on and loads of black bits come flying out it was horrid. Shower curtain rail was hanging off and omg I have never seen a toilet brush so discusting in a hotel before. To be able to use the kettle you have to put it on the floor so you can plug it in. Went down for breakfast the following morning no staff to be seen, the breakfast was cold. I had booked a late check out through bookings.com for between 12-1pm and got a confirmation email saying it had been agreed with doreen from reception and had to pay an extra £20 which I was happy to pay. I was not happy when there was a knock on the door just before 11am to tell us we should have been out the room and after explaining that I had booked a late check we were then ordered to go downstairs to pay for the room straight away and then to be told by the manager or who ever she was that she didn't care what bookings.com had said to me they don't do late check outs...sorry but that isn't anyway to speak to a paying customer. Can safely say I won't be staying here again or recommending it to anyone.
Review 66:Not a lot apart from hotel is in a lovely area and the bed was comfortable
Review 67:The bathroom door/handle stuck; once or twice I feared I might be locked in the bathroom.
Review 68:The friendliness of the owners and the family atmosphere. The quiet setting and the birdsong in the trees. The ability to order take-away food when the restaurant was closed.
Review 69:Door handle falling off, door didn't close properly (to the room), lack of availability of staff, my car got stuck in the gravel on the driveway, tired and dated decor and the mirrors in the bathroom not over the sink but located over the bath instead.
Review 70:Quiet location
Review 71:Serching for staff.no reception area..had to ask staff from a wedding to serve a drink for use. Very slow running hot water
Review 72:Loved house and grounds very relaxing
Review 73:Noisy neighbours !!! And could not get bar sevice no one was ever there, and no evening meal on offer.
Review 74:The four poster bed and the room and bathroom. Breakfast was good.
Review 75:There isn't an a la carte restaurant, as advertised. In fact there is no food available in the evening & even the bar was closed. It is a relatively remote location, we walked 1 mile to the beefeater, down country lanes. I stayed last year & was treated to an amazing meal, which was why we stayed this time. Without the option to eat in the evening I wouldn't stay again. There wasn't really a reception or a feel that there were any staff on site, except at breakfast.
Review 76:This is a beautiful building, with amazing rooms & bathrooms. Big rooms, four poster beds etc. All very clean. I loved that side of my stay & in a way would love to go back. The morning staff cooked a fab breakfast & were professional & courteous. The let down was the lack of an evening meal or open bar.
Review 77:Could do with a good clean & modernisation, needs better staff and better breakfast. The light in the bathroom was hanging from the wall by its wires
Review 78:Emails sent requesting arrival bewteen 3-4pm also an evening meal for two. On arrival access was locked until 4:10Pm and owner did not great but instructed assisted "you can show them to their room" through a slightly ajar door [over slept?]. We were then told the chef had a day off. So no evening meals from an elegant on-line menu. Checked out next morning, but still charged via booking.com two nights. Met locals who said they would not book their daughters wedding there for 'hospitality' reasons...
Review 79:Clean, good views, comfortable bed
Review 80:No evening meals as advertised on web, no Reception desk, had to ring for service. No personal touch from owners. Nice bar area, but had to ring each time to get service!
Review 81:The hotel and surroundings were beautiful, Room spacious and clean.
Review 82:Getting into town for a meal in the evening as no food but we knew in advance that would be the case so not a complaint!
Review 83:The room was pretty and had good views, nice bed, very period and maintained to good standard
Review 84:This hotel was advertised with an a la carte restaurant we saw no evidence of this and weren't offered the choice to have a evening meal so had to get a taxi into town also the bar was not open. Breakfast was poor.
Review 85:If one is not having full English breakfast, there is not enough choice of breads (white and brown sliced), butter only, and only two similar types of marmalade, although many different teas available.
Review 86:The bed was very comfy, and a warm welcome even though we were late checking in
Review 87:It says a restaurant but when we stayed these facilities weren't available on the night which meant we had to go into Hereford for food
Review 88:Our room was beautiful not in the main house very private
Review 89:Not a major issue but There was no tv in the room we had.
Review 90:Nice 4 poster bed , on arrival nice staff and complementary champagne and chocolatesin our room also a corner bath with juccuzi jets was nice to chill in. Quiet area also.
Review 91:The room was really cold and didn't really warm up enough even with the heating on. At breakfast the hot water for making tea was luke warm however the manager apologised and did arrange to bring me a pot of hot tea.
Review 92:The room and bathroom were really spacious (in the executive room)and the gardens were lovely.
Review 93:excellent room enjoyed the stay and food friendly staff. the room was very nice, comfortable and clean. only complaint was the room was cold when arrived.
Review 94:Reception doesn't exist. We were shown to the room by the painter but he did not tell us anything about the hotel. No information in the room. Not good value for money.
Review 95:The room was large and well fitted.
Review 96:Nothing I disliked. Pure class and made to feel so welcome. Best hotel I have ever stopped in!
Review 97:Our stay was one to never forget. So warm and welcoming. The hotel has a lot of character and I can honestly say I felt like a duchess in the duchess suite. The owner is a wonderful woman and didn't fail to make us feel welcome and at home. We even missed breakfast and room service knocked on our door and gave us breakfast in bed. It was the ending to a perfect night. Book a room with a bath and get the champagne flowing.
Review 98:Bed was so short and uncomfortable that both my partner and I had bad backs. Lights were not secure in ceiling. Heating hardly in on a freezing night. Bath plug didnt hold. Breakfast only served 8am to 9am in New Years day. Room was grimy and not very clean. Door to room not secure. No phone in room. Staff that met us dressed scruffy in a hoody. No management around in morning, left to pay waitress who had to phone owner who had locked office door.
Review 99:Location for access to Hereford is good. Waitress in morning was polite.
Review 100:Venue, staff, and everything very good. Excellent place to both stay as a guest and as an attendee of a fabulous wedding. Munstone House is ideal for a weekend escape, or as a location for a wedding or any special event.
Review 101:Staff welcoming and helpful. Venue perfect for our family wedding and get together. breakfast, buffet but hot and cooked well. Overall a very relaxed time.
Review 102:DOGS. Barking EVERY NIGHT AT 5AM!! Staff too occupied with setting up for future things instead of looking after current guests. Only 1hr window for breakfast Need little bin to put rubbish in at breakfast. Replace biscuits in room Install night lights on steps leading to bathroom.
Review 103:Location is wonderful Breakfast is very nice Room has lots of character Views of the city Loved free wifi Bathroom was very nice
Review 104:The room was above the party venue and we could hear the music until around midnight.
Review 105:Ideal countryside location close to Hereford. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room, large bathroom and good, tasty breakfast. We would stay there again.
Review 106:We were in executive room. Parties in bar above, we could hear every word and footsteps above.we weren't pre warned about this. room was cold on arrival
Review 107:Very nice and comfortable.
Review 108:See above
Review 109:It looked great on.the surface but there was a dead fly on the winowsill next to the bath. The hor water for the jacuzzi bath ran out ehenhalf full. The room.was cold and the Internet didn't work. The bedcreaked all night. Looks good on the net but leaves a lot desired. Spokewith owner and told of my.wones. Suggested a discount but nothing wasforthcoming. Wouldn't stay again. Has the potential to be amazingdue to setting. Seemed as if they were playing at running a hotel. 4 outof 10 from.me
Review 110:- I have acquired 4 BITES on my leg! Not sure what from, possible flee/mosquito/gnat. - wifi seemed to work in reception area but not in room (same wifi, and MORE signal in room). - stains on bedding. - spotlights not working in ceiling and on side of bath. I have sent an email of complaint to the email address on the website and have not had a reply.
Review 111:- huge, stylish and comfortable bed - 50" tv - jacuzzi bath - separate shower - plenty of tea and coffee making facilities - fair sized room. - brilliant breakfast included in price. many options including trad English and cereals.
Review 112:No in room hair dryer. Seems strange to offer ironing board Etc in room and shampoo, conditioner etc and no hair dryer!! Also breakfast needs up graded. I would have given them excellent if they had served a hot cooked breakfast and not just Luke warm self service.
Review 113:Lovely room with good in room facilities, needed a hairdryer though. Lovely gardens.
Review 114:Bit of a walk to centre (about 2 miles) down country lanes to start with. Take a torch if walking it after dark, better to take a taxi (about 9/10 pounds each way)
Review 115:Very comfortable room, lovely big bathroom and ample breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 116:I liked being on the edge of Herefords downtown area. It was quieter and more quaint. However, if you wanted to go downtown Hereford you had to take a 5 minute drive or a 30-40 min walk. May be minus depending on what you are looking for.
Review 117:The staff was very friendly and helpful. They would phone us a cab or give us good tips on where to go sight see in the area. The cooks there are very talented and the food was delicious. The breakfast was crucial and the room service was always prodessional and helpful. Try to get the Norfolk room if you want a good view of the English country side. Free wifi internet was fast and reliable. Overall, the hotel exceeded this Yanks expectations.
Review 118:There is no reception area. The water pressure is very poor, took ages to fill the bath to an acceptable level. The hotel is definitely more geared towards weddings, I wouldn't recommend it for any a short break/holiday. I also think the price of £70 per night to be somewhat excessive.
Review 119:The room was very nice and the bed extremely comfortable.
Review 120:Kettle in out room had to be put on floor to boil as cord did not reach from table to plug socket. Didn't see staff much, but when we did see them they were very pleasent and helpful.
Review 121:Room was large and comfortable. Jacuzzi bath was lovely and relaxing. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.
Review 122:The modern traveller is looking for wifi as a guarantee...really poor. Throughout my one night stay I saw 3 staff..All very polite but the hotel lacked that welcoming feeling..the hotel lacked soul
Review 123:The hotels gardens are beautiful. The hotels obvious investment in weddings will almost certainly guarantee them business.
Review 124:Lack of a separate shower in the bathroom made early morning breakfast something of a rush. The green light in the emergency ceiling light was distracting.
Review 125:The room, facilities and food were excellent. The welcome on arrival and attention to our needs during our stay were beyond reproach and the local knowledge of the staff was very helpful.
Review 126:Parking a bit of a problem when they are hosting an event, but all sorted very good naturedly
Review 127:A great place to 'chill out' in between rushing about. Very welcoming staff. Will definitely come again.
Review 128:So we turned up to check in early which I had cleared with staff multiple times beforehand. There was a bell to ring for assistance as there's no reception as such. We were met with a very awkward greeting by an older lady, who looked us and another couple who had arrived early up and down and asked "what are you doing here? Check in isn't until 4pm". I explained we'd already rung ahead so we were let off. . . Just! The other couple however looked back at us and gestured that they felt like naughty school kids the way we were treated. We booked the Executive Double and were disappointed to turn up and find the 4 poster bed was in fact now 2 posts, 1 of which fell off in the night and hit my partner in the head as it wasn't attached properly. The glasses were dirty and although the room was presented well it was tainted by small disappointments. Holes in the ceiling, light fittings hanging down, lamps not working etc. It was such a shame as it could have been brilliant with just a few little odd jobs completed. We were thankful that there wasn't a function in the room above us as every step could be heard and as people were setting up for a function that weekend it sounded like they were going to come through the ceiling. The saving grace was the fact it was very quiet our first night, so we managed to sit out on a little terrace in peace. Luckily I'm a bit of a clean freak and carry anti bacterial wipes everywhere so a quick clean got rid of the dirt and cobwebs on the table and chairs. The sun was shining so we soon forgot about it and had a lovely evening. The restaurant was lovely and the young waiter couldn't be more attentive, he was by far the most pleasant member of staff there.Despite booking a late check out then, we were rushed out of the room at 10am as they had a wedding party arriving, not a huge issue and I can understand as hotels should go above and beyond for wedding parties.
Review 129:No one around on our arrival, no one at the bar, no one at breakfast, no one about when checking out. Had to go looking about for staff. When leaving we found a member of staff in the garden she was rude, called us girls (I am 48) my daughter was appalled at her arrogant manner. We told her how we felt and she didn't acknowledge the matter. We informed her we would certainly not be returning.
Review 130:It was a long way up some steps to carry cases from the lower car park. A reception desk was needed near the main entrance. A shelf was required on which to place the lids of the breakfast containers when self-serving.
Review 131:Lovely surroundings with a large, pleasant bedroom. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our stay was thoroughly enjoyable.
Review 132:Renovation works going on in the room above until 11pm and started again at 7am Rooms where dirty and electrical equipment was out of PAT test by almost 2 years on some items
Review 133:Location, breakfast was very good
Review 134:What meant to be a surprise night away turned out to be hell, could not find out booking first of all then they put us in the wrong room . Then as we returned to our car to go out for dinner it had been obviously hit by another car dent and scratches on the passenger side, hotel owner denied it happening on the hotel premises also was suppose to look on the CCTV and contact us but never did . Reading other reviews this is not the first time people have had there cars damaged during there visit . Very over priced room rates and dining for what it was.
Review 135:The lovely rooms with wonderful beds and jacuzzis. The private parking and quiet setting away from the main building was perfect.stunning grounds and lovely outdoor terrace for drinks.
Review 136:The mattress was a little bit too hard for our liking.
Review 137:The evening meals and the breakfasts we had during our stay were excellent. The room was very comfortable and quiet.
Review 138:Mattress was too soft, I suffer from a bad back and had an uncomfortable sleep (not directly the fault of the hotel but may want to get a firmer mattress. The toilet seat and lamp in the bedroom were broken. Fire extinguisher sat on floor outside the room.
Review 139:The location is in a beautiful part of the city The facilities and staff were fantastic. Very much enjoyed the bath and breakfast. The room, hotel and grounds were very clean and tidy. I will certainly be coming back to stay.
