Reviews for Mowbray Guest House

Review 1:No downsides I can think of

Review 2:Within walking distance of the city centre in a quiet, residential road. Comfortable, clean room, friendly hosts, good breakfast

Review 3:The pillows were so uncomfortable we ended up going out and buying some! There were no bedside lights so turning off the light to go to bed was tricky and getting up in the night to go to the loo was a bit of an adventure. When we asked for lights to be provided, they were, but on one side of the bed we had to stand the lamp on a suitcase and my husband had to crawl under the bed to plug both lamps in. Not quite what you expect!

Review 4:Very friendly proprietors. Nice bathroom and everything beautifully clean. I don't eat meat and was offered hash browns instead, but they ran out of these halfway through our stay so they gave me veggie sausages instead.

Review 5:Not a lot of onsite parking, shower not very powerful, but not a deal breaker.

Review 6:Pleasant hosts,Good location for town, very comfortable rooms, good breakfast.

Review 7:A bit hard to find when you don't know where it is! Took me a few attempts to finally find the place.

Review 8:The owners of the B&B make you feel very welcome. The place itself is very clean and comfortable. I will definitely go back with my family.

Review 9:I liked everything about this guest house! Gorgeous, comfortable and tastefully decorated Georgian house and my room (number 3) was enormous! 4 beds in it. Clean and tidy, lovely breakfast and Alison the landlady is lovely and so helpful...I'll definitely be back when I next need to go to Sunderland..

Review 10:Alison was very welcoming, the house was very homely and warm. It's a shame we didn't get up early enough to try the breakfast after a night out in the city for my birthday! Definitely be back again as it's the nicest guest house I've stayed in

Review 11:n/a

Review 12:bright airy modern decorated rooms with excellent en-suite facilities and the friendly family atmosphere, thanks to alison and family for all their help

Review 13:Couldn't have wished for better service from the owners. So friendly and helpful throughout the stay! Always happy to help and very genuine people. Would recommend to absolutely everyone heading to the area.

Review 14:I slept with the window open as I like fresh air, and the road traffic was a bit noisy, but it was a Friday night so lots of activity, and in a city so to be expected. I didn't have any information in my room so couldn't get online or know when breakfast was, but I made it in time and got the code from the owner whilst I had my food so it wasn't a big problem!

Review 15:The owner was very welcoming and friendly, she offered a good range of options for breakfast and the bed was comfortable. They have a card payment machine which is very handy.

Review 16:Everything was good,no negatives to report

Review 17:Good value B&B with great breakfasts. 10 minutes to Sunderland centre.I recommend the Italian restaurant on John Street.Parking on site or on road.

Review 18:Only thing that could be improved is having a bin in the toilet

Review 19:This is the cleanest b&b I've ever been to. Great that they did a gluten-free breakfast for us. Walking distance to the museum so great place to stay if you're staying in Sunderland.

Review 20:Matress was very thin. No bedside lamp which meant I banged my leg on the bed more than once.

Review 21:great breakfast, close to the city centre. Room was cosy and warm. Shower was good.

Review 22:When I arrived no one answered the door.I do not have a mobile phone but eventually found some one to ring them.I would suggest future visitor give an estimate of their time of arrival. A chair in the bedroom would have been good.

Review 23:Very clean and friendly

Review 24:Friendly attentive owners.Property very clean, modern and comfortable.Breakfast excellent and served with a smile by proprietor.Best guest house in Sunderland by far.

Review 25:Milk on tea table sour (another guest also commented on this) and shower water was almost overflowing (possible blocked drain?) so had to take very quick shower to prevent flooding bathroom. Front door locked and had to ring mobile number on note in window to get someone to let us in then we were shown to double room when we'd booked a twin.

Review 26:The decor was lovely and modern, fresh and clean. Whole house was well-presented.

Review 27:Alison and Kevin were perfect hosts, they really made our stay perfect. couldn't do enough for us and the breakfast was an extra bonus. great value for money and will return if we are back in this area in the future

Review 28:double room had bed attached to wall so it was not very convenient for the person in getting out during night time to attend to toilet.

Review 29:Alison was great very warm, accommodative and flexible. We felt very welcomed and supported .

Review 30:My son was disappointed that the password for the wi fi was not available Also not enough upto date information about the area and points of interest

Review 31:Very comfortable the freedom to come and go as you please

Review 32:Not necceserilly anything bad but next time I stay will request a 1st floor room as the ground floor room was not as private as i would have liked

Review 33:Alison was a great welcoming host made it feel like nothing was any trouble at all. Great breakfast on waking up definately recommend to friends wonderful vfm

Review 34:Only thing I can think off was there wasn't enough milk n sugar tea coffee in room as my drinks a lot off tea but asked and got some more x x x

Review 35:Stayed due to having to travel for a funeral and the room and staff was excellent x

Review 36:Stayed one night and had a pleasant experience, albeit short. Good location, easy parking, nice large room, delicious breakfast. Couldn't have been nicer!

Review 39:warm welcome very accommodating, recommended a lovely Indian Restuarant 5 minute walk..were able to leave luggage and gave us spare key next day to pick up after the Sunderland game!..definately be back..beautiful park nearby too..:-)

Review 40:Uncomfortable bed, breakfast freshly cooked first morning but not second, shower tray drains too slowly, no desk for working

Review 41:Size of room, first day breakfast

Review 42:We stayed at Mobray guest house for one night for a visit to the theatre. We were given a family room which was very spacious and clean. Breakfast was very tasty and staff friendly and welcoming. Very good value, would definitely use again and recommend.

Review 43:Rooms could do with a touch up and new flooring, but this did not effect our stay. Great value for money, highly recommended

Review 44:Excellent quality of towels and bedding. Had a lovely comfy nights sleep. Breakfast was made with quality produce Staff are lovely - ve6ey attentive

Review 45:Shower temperature adjustment took a little getting used to but was fine when set correctly.

Review 46:Facilities and accommodation. Breakfast was very good. Our hosts were very pleasant and welcoming.

Review 47:Very friendly staff. Comfortable, tidy and clean room. Well decorated house in nice road, Although it is slightly further away from the city centre than ideal, its only roughly a 10 minute walk

Review 48:The owners of the guest house were extremely helpful. We needed an early breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday and they went out of their way to accomodate our requirements. Many thanks, we will definitely stay again.

Review 49:What a place! Excellent location - easy walking distance to city centre. So welcoming but professionally run.No half-measures here. Spotlessly clean and quiet! I know where I will be staying in Sunderland when I return.

Review 50:Room was a little chilly to start with but radiator sorted that!

Review 51:Great location, near city centre. Breakfast was deliciously home cooked and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again!

Review 52:Not a single complaint. I've stayed at The Mowbray Guest House on several occasions and cannot recommend the service and accommodation highly enough. Superb.

Review 53:The heating was turned off at about 10.15/10.30pm, just I was getting back from working. The first night I added a blanket to my bed as it was so cold, and the second night I added a second blanket, and it took me a while to get to sleep on both nights. After having a shower in the morning (there was no shampoo provided), I came back into a freezing room, and couldn't dry my hair as there was no hair dryer (something I'd expect in a guest house like this, particularly one with a boutique-style decor), and had to go out into the rain with wet hair and feeling very cold. I wanted to talk to the owners about this when I checked out, but I was met only by the cleaner. I also ran out of toilet roll by my second morning, as it hadn't been replaced and there was no spare provided.

Review 54:The hosts were welcoming and friendly (although they weren't there or check-out), and the general decor was very appealing. The breakfast was nice, the wifi worked quite well, and the towels were a good size.

Review 55:There was some noise at night from residents of other premises nearby, but this was a minor issue.

Review 56:The guesthouse was first class, very clean, well equipped, owners were friendly and helpful, breakfasts were excellent, would stay again if needed.

Review 57:Owners were very friendly and helpful, room was very clean. A bit of a walk from the train & bus stations, but not unreasonable. I enjoyed my stay here.

Review 58:This box is not necessary; everything was good :)

Review 59:Kevin and Alison are both very friendly and accommodating. The property is lovely and very well maintained. I particularly like the décor - lots of prints of natural scenes in the room and the communal spaces. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and wish that I could have spent more time there.

Review 60:everything was excellent

Review 64:The B&B is close to the town centre but still nice and quiet. Breakfast was lovely. Felt really at home and relaxed, nothing was too much trouble. Will be using this B&B again when in Sunderland.

Review 65:Shower drained quite slowly in room 2 so a little worried about flooding the bathroom, but not a massive issue.

Review 66:Comfortable quiet guesthouse, friendly staff, excellent value for money and a good breakfast to start the day.

Review 67:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 68:We stayed at the Mowbray Guest House for a Graduation ceremony as a family of 5 in a family room and a twin room. Everything was beautiful and immaculate, the beds and bathroom clean and comfortable. Each room had a TV and full facilities and it was wonderfully peaceful and quiet ensuring a good nights sleep. The breakfast was delicious with a great variety of hot and cold options, and more that you can eat. The Guest House was in the best areas of Sunderland Alison and Kevin were superb hosts and could not do enough for us. We wholeheartedly recommend this to all travellers and will be staying there again on our next trip to Sunderland!
