Reviews for Boathouse Hotel
Review 1:Mobile 'phone reception is poor
Review 2:Easily accessible location. Very peaceful.Very pleasant staff and a great variety of really good food. Plenty of free parking.
Review 3:Pleasant stay and food was lovely. Stayed overnight before we travelled to Ireland. Restaurant was busy but we didn't have to wait long for food. Good breakfast
Review 4:What's not to like..?? Not luxury but clean, adequate, comfortable accommodation, well placed near the marina with views looking out across the bay.
Review 5:This little hotel is like a jewel in the crown that is Holyhead!! Not much going on in the town but the warmth and friendliness of this place made an excellent start to our New Year!!
Review 6:Arrived late but staff very helpful. Very cold night but room was lovely and warm. Had a drink in the bar - good choice available and again lady behind bar very friendly and helpful.
Review 7:The wifi is not very good, could only get it in the reception area.
Review 8:Very friendly staff. Food is very good in the restaurant. Rooms are well appointed. Good location. Plenty of parking.
Review 9:No WiFi as advertised, not clean enough, grubby, shabby. Drunken funeral party, customer vomited in restaurant right beside us. No disabled space in car park.
Review 10:Not much. Despite location, no view from windows.
Review 11:Room was freezing cold upon my arrival. Radiator was off even though I presumably was expected as had pre booked. Wifi signal is very patchy and very slow which given the lack of any 3G phone signal was doubly annoying, ended up driving to McDonalds in Holyhead to do emails & phone calls
Review 12:Bar area is small but nice enough
Review 13:The breakfast, which was not included in the room price, was expensive and in the most part inedible. There was no concession of the cost of the breakfast for the young children.
Review 14:The location of the hotel is fantastic for the marina and it was very clean - all of the rooms looked as though had recently been redecorated.
Review 15:Took the payment before I got there, so didn't want to add any extras as I need one receipt for my company. Could hear every work spoken and the TV from room next door at 1:20 in the morning..
Review 16:Location
Review 17:lack of consideration of older travelers - put in room over bar/restaurant with music playing late at night Noise from other residents late at night -
Review 18:friendliness of staff
Review 19:The Boat House advertised free WiFi. A WiFi signal could not be got in the room, bar, or the restaurant. The the only place this signal was obtainable was just outside reception. If this service is advertised then it should be available everywhere. These days most people plan there holidays and trips on the Internet, so it is important to have this service available.
Review 20:The Boat House is in a great location, is quiet and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the stay very much despite the lack of WiFi.
Review 21:Nothing!!
Review 22:Loved this place even though it was just a stop off on our trip from Belgium to Ireland. It was a very welcome break and a very welcoming place for us and our two labs. The food was yummy too.
Review 23:Didn't appreciate payment being taken the day before our arrival. Bed was too small and uncomfortable Uncomfortable sofa in room
Review 24:Food was excellent Good location Good shower
Review 25:Food in Holyhead is disgusting at Boathouse it is just ok hotel is basic and tired
Review 26:Ok in the context of Holyhead, that is you can leave your car and catch a ferry. Place is clean and staff ok
Review 27:We have stayed a number of times. We find the staff very helpful and always wait on us to come in on the late ferry from Dublin. I have recommended The Boat House to our relations in England for when they are traveling to Ireland.
Review 28:Small guesthouse in a perfect location overlooking the Marina at Newry beach so a very short trip to the ferry to Ireland and ideal for walking to the coast and Holyhead mountain Ideal for a short stay
Review 29:breakfast was a bit too over cooked cold milk was stood on counter and was warmish
Review 30:lovely room and the hotel overlooked the marina the whole area was very peaceful would go again
Review 31:door closers are fierce and slam the door waking others up
Review 32:wasn't expecting a harbour view for £60 , delightful. I was also most grateful to be allowed to check in at 01;30am as I thought I was going to have to sleep in the car yes the décor is dated but in good condition
Review 33:Advertised as having WiFi but the only area of the hotel we could get it was in the reception area.
Review 34:Clean hotel. Easy access for walks over the headland and lovely views from the front of the hotel. We travelled there by train and as we had no vehicle were restricted to Holyhead town.
Review 35:We will not return to this Hotel because In our opinion it is overpriced We had to go out in the pouring rain to get to the restaurant The television was not tuned in for use ,and we had to call the staff to deal with it ,and then the picture kept breaking up .The cord on the kettle was not long enough to reach the socket in the wall ,and had to be stood on the floor . At breakfast, the peaches in the cabinet ,had several bad ones in the dish and we had to ask the staff to deal with it It was not a satisfactory or enjoyable stay
Review 36:Near to the ferry
Review 37:WiFi in room was flakey.
Review 38:Location, value for money. Facilities were sufficient for me as a solo traveller with specific needs around a cycle ride the following day. Breakfast was included in rate although I didn't have it as i left early.
Review 39:The rooms need up -dating. The decor remains stuck in the the 1980's which is disappointing.
Review 40:After leaving our medication, the staff kindly rang us to inform us of this error and kept it safe for our return. The staff werr=e very friendly and polite.
Review 41:Second night was disrupted by noisy clientele. Mentioned this at reception next morning when checking out and was told that it may have been caused by one "guest" who stayed there as a DHSS referral. Apparently he had been told before about his behaviour and it would be discussed with him again!
Review 42:Room,views from room (at front) and food were all good.
Review 43:There is no effective wifi and zero mobile phone reception at this hotel. If you need to be contactable reconsider your plans. The placement of the router at the back of the reception area results in wifi only being available in the immediate vicinity. Very disappointed to see mould in the shower recess walls. This cast doubt on the effectiveness of cleaning.
Review 44:The best thing about this hotel is the food. Very good choice and great quality. Convenient one night stopover if catching the ferry to Dublin.
Review 45:No comment
Review 46:The view was to die for if you love the sea and boats, I do, so brilliant, room 18, great for us. Good to get you walkin, about 15 mins to town centre £2.20 if you need to take taxi, great for on way home how cheap is that!!! The staff and we didn't realise but the owner dealt with our check in , we asked for a double room because original booking was for a twin he actually upgraded us to a super king , wow what an upgrade, we will go again Julie / Andrew x
Review 47:Fire alarm going off the early hours of the morning and there seemed to be NO staff immediately to advise us of our Safety and Security. A Guest telephoned the FIRE BRIGADE and another Guest telephoned the emergency number in the book but this was the receiption with NO ONE there.
Review 48:We liked the staff and the friendly and how accommodating the Management were. Food was delicious. Apology leaving the Hotel on Monday monring for the nights activities was greatly aprecaited.
Review 49:booked evening meal, but were told whilst awaiting are main course we would have to vacate are table in the next 15 minutes because the table was required for the next people. made to feel very uncomfortable.
Review 50:The fact that our dog could go in the bar area and the conservatory where we took our meals. Couldn't fault anything really. Ground floor room leading to the garden and seating area. Lovely views of the Marina. Would definitely stay again.
Review 51:A bit tired. Dinner was lousy. We skipped breakfast the next day, as weekend breakfast is 30 min. later than weekday. Unfortunately, the morning ferry does not change.
Review 52:Convenient to the ferry port
Review 53:I didn't have dinner there but the prices were displayed and they were jaw droppingly high, eg £11 something for fish and chips; actually at least £11 for all meals...
Review 54:lovely room and views, was nice to relax with a drink outside after getting into the room.
Review 55:I liked the location and nearness to the Ferry Port. The staff were most helpful and waited up for me until the small hours of the morning on my return. Much appreciated
Review 56:Wifi difficult to access.Felt a bit pushed for time for breakfast and to check in for 8 O'clock ferry.
Review 57:Location was good. Freindly staff with clean rooms.
Review 58:nothing everything was spot on.
Review 59:everything staff very friendly bed to die for could have stayed in bed all day. position of hotel excellent.will always stay at boathouse again and again.
Review 60:No Wi-fi available in our particular room until they put a box in the room, but it was available in the communal areas so no big deal
Review 61:Good location with pleasant views to the boatyard and beyond
Review 62:Very convenient and easy to find from the ferry port , and welcomes dogs. We were given a ground floor room with direct access to the garden and our dog was allowed in the conservatory for dinner and breakfast. Perfect.
Review 63:Thought the room was a bit dated and therefore the rate of 90 pounds a bit steep.
Review 64:We had a lovely view from our window and the room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good.
Review 65:no black out curtains. No wifi in room only worked outside the hotel
Review 66:friendlyness of staff, nice breakfast/evening meal area. Can sit ouside with drinks too. Sparrows everywhere
Review 67:Cheapest consumables possible in room. Poor quality breakfast. Smelly public areas and corridors - it was as if the smoking ban never happened.
Review 68:Friendly staff.
Review 69:Not being able to walk the breakaway.
Review 70:Everything. Room large bed very large. Staff very friendly and efficient. Situated perfectly for ferry and for getting out and about
Review 71:Not as clean as it could be. Odd shower that we had to climb up into; toilet would only flush once in awhile. Not convenient to town at all and a little pricey, as well.
Review 72:Extremely nice staff. Great service in the restaurant; good food.
Review 73:The single room was well priced but a tad small.
Review 74:Location is superb, near a marina and local walks and five minute drive to the ferries. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good.
Review 75:When entering through the hotel entrance (as opposed to the adjoined bar/restaurant) one passes the toilets and the odour of the chemicals was rather dominant. The water pressure in the shower was low.
Review 76:No problem with late night arrivals. Free WiFi. Decent room. ... all we needed for one night on a weekend's road trip.
Review 77:Nothing,
Review 78:Staff really helpful with room allocation for elderly group member. Friendly from first moment to last. Pretty spot but very convenient for Holyhead Ferry port. Good value for money, great breakfast.
Review 79:Unfortunately the wife did not extend to our room and was only available in the restaurant
Review 80:We arrived early but it was no problem. We were given a quiet room as requested and the quality of the service, the room and the food was fantastic. The location was perfect
Review 81:Nothing to dislike
Review 82:Staff were really helpful in accommodating needs of one less mobile member of our party. Rooms are fresh & modern whilst retaining comfort. Excellent value.
Review 83:I stayed two nights, and on the second night there was quite a lot of noise until past midnight. I'd stay here for one or two nights without hesitation but wouldn't choose it for a longer holiday. A lot of the guests were catching the ferry next day.
Review 84:Staff genuinely very friendly, (including the chef who stayed late to make me a sandwich). Location is easy to find, and just five minutes from the ferry or the town. The bed was firm but comfortable and food straight forward but comforting.
Review 85:Bedroom was freezing through the night, matress springs were noisy every time I moved, and it was too hard. No WIFI. For the price of the room, breakfast should have been included.
Review 86:Nothing
Review 87:floors creaked alot and so did bed, but gotta expect that in old places.
Review 88:Fish & chips were great, and bed was comfy , staff were wonderful, parking superb also. Shower was hot
Review 89:Arrived late no food available?
Review 90:Phoned to say we would be late as our car had broken down! Arrived 9.30pm kitchen closed but couldn't even make us a sandwich! Not impressed!
Review 91:We weren't aware of the early checkout time so we were very rushed but we now realise that we were to blame for not asking.
Review 92:The warm welcome and the happy staff.
Review 93:Second morning, a different waitress recalled me from the conservatory, "No-one goes in THERE!" So I retreated to the inner room. In a sea of unoccupied tables, I was given the tiniest one, facing inwards, so I turned everything myself in order to look at the view.
Review 94:Access to country/ mountain walks, view of marina and breakwater. One waitress provided gluten-free bread for toast at breakfast, very nice. Depending on who is the waitress, you can take breakfast in the conservatory.
Review 95:Area, staff, food was lovely. Bed comfortable, shower hot, but tv stations were poor, but that could just be Anglesey in general. I know you dont go away to watch tv, but to catch up on current news is important to us.
Review 96:A good overnight stopover for the ferries to Ireland from Holyhead. It was quiet - apart from the wind which was not the hotel's fault! The staff were friendly and the bar and food were good though the en suite bathroom was a little cramped - but quite acceptable.
Review 97:Beware of nightlife. Lot of pubs spit and sawdust and not very welcoming to non welsh people. Bar in hotel was also bit small.
Review 98:lovely view of the harbour at quiet end of town. Nice walks close by to hotel. Good access to neighbouring towns.
Review 99:The staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Beautiful harbour view. Interesting walk on the headland beside it. Ideal location for the ferry.
Review 100:The room, although recently refurbished lacked a few finishing touches, e.g. carpet and shower screen both shabby. No phone signal or WI FI!!!
Review 101:Great location, lovely views, close proximity to the sea with great coastal walks. Lovely restaurant and friendly staff.
Review 102:The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and efficient in an unobtrusive way. Spotlessly clean with nice unfussy décor. Tasty food with good specials menu. Lovely views. Great position out of town, by the coast path and Marina.
Review 103:The radiator in the bed room was not working
Review 104:The décor of the bed room was outstanding, The food was excellent, try the cod The friendliness of the staff Pet friendly
Review 105:Perfect location for access to ferry port. Good food available in very pleasant surroundings, with friendly staff and good service. We felt we were made very welcome.
Review 106:Had a problem signing on the Wi-fi with my tablet...it was not a major problem for me though.
Review 107:Location, the staff, the room, the water pressure, the food, were all wonderful.
Review 108:Staff went out of their way to please Excellent dinner & breakfast Bedroom was a good size, clean and comfortable Excellent bathroom & shower Good range of drinks in the bar
Review 109:Wifi kept cutting out. Hotel info booklet said lunch was served until 2PM, but when I asked at half past 1 I was told there was no food at all.
Review 110:Clean, peaceful, nice location, helpful staff.
Review 111:Serving of breakfast finished at 09.00, there could have been leeway for another 30 minutes.
Review 112:Chose the hotel as it was conveniently near the Stena ferry at Holyhead after the crossing from Dublin. staff very very friendly and helpful and the accommodation was clean and comfortable. Good breakfast in the morning.
Review 113:Room was cold, had to ask twice for heating to be put on, when room warmed up faint smell of dog was replaced with a strong smell of cleaning fluids. Next morning again no heat on in room
Review 114:Location. My fish and chips in restaurant were very good. My wife's burger was very poor but was offered replacement or refund straight away. Waitress in restaurant very helpful and friendly
Review 115:that I could not have stayed longer
Review 116:the staff and the food at their restaurant was excellent, they aim to please. Minutes from ferry and train depot. The views unbelievable
Review 117:Decor could do with a makeover, bit of a cold atmosphere at reception.
Review 118:Good location for the getting the early morning ferry. The evening meal was decent and not bad value, helped by the friendly and efficient staff.
Review 119:Everyone very friendly and food delicious. Nice sized room and bath. Good view of marina. We even did a weeks' worth of laundry at the marina across the street. Everyone was so very nice.
Review 120:This is an old place with rickety floors and stairs which made it tough to move suitcase in and out Bathrooms were a bit tricky, with no spot for toiletries and limited space generally
Review 121:Food is good as is the wait staff Reception was very welcoming and staff always friendly and helpful Location was wonderful for hiking and views Relaxed atmosphere and rules for pets were very reasonable
Review 122:No phone reception on either orange or Vodafone, reception had a big fat man who couldn't check us in, not welcomed by lady owner upon arrival...After that we saw nobody but the unfriendly rude lady who was running the complete breakfast solo...greasiest cold breakfast with a way undercooked sausage, a crust was used for the wettest fried bread, mushrooms oozed oil, stale cold awkward atmosphere in dining room, needs a local radio..no herbal teas...think its overpriced at £80 a nite..overall every staff member was rude and unfriendly. .For that I wouldn't return
Review 123:Free parking, very comfortable quiet room, location for ferry was perfect.warm and cleanish and quiet.go with the continental breakfast
Review 124:Decor of an old building tastefully done, combining the lovely, old dado rails etc with funky matching wallpaper, pictures and bedding. Good location by the marina. Best cooked breakfast ever eaten in a hotel!
Review 125:We were on a BnB touring holiday to UK and Ireland. The location near the ferry too and from Ireland and the Boathouse Hotel as a drop off point for our hire car made this a convenient place to stay the night.
Review 126:Very small and no towel racks in the bathroom. Carpet throughout hallways and common areas torn and threadbare but room was clean.
Review 127:Food was good. Room and bed were comfortable enough. Washroom was extremely small.
Review 128:no pillowcase on my second pillow. Television too small for room. Bedroom and bathroom need upgrading.
Review 129:We had a comfortable night's rest in the Boathouse Hotel before travelling back to Dublin. The staff were polite and accommodating and the food was good.
Review 130:WiFi was intermittant. Guests and others coming through the bar/lounge area to smoke outside bring in their smoke whilst I was eating.
Review 131:A lovely evening meal and full breakfast that set me up for the day. All staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Review 132:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was great for our ferry trip to Dublin the next day and we received most courteous and helpful service. We enjoyed the large tastefully furnished room and the bed was most comfortable. The view onto the boats and water frontage was lovely. It was also very convenient to be able to dine on the premises and the food and service were excellent. We loved exploring the glorious Holyhead national park, which was in close proximity. We would recommend this hotel most warmly.
