Reviews for The Bulls Head
Review 1:Lovely Georgian style typical English pub. Staff were extremely friendly and catered to all our needs. We were well and truly impressed with the meal serving sizes and some excellent local ales on tap as well. Would defiantly stay again. Loved the decor inside with exposed beams and hundreds of decorations made it feel warm and friendly. 3 adults stayed in the room we had with a queen and a single bed with plenty of room. Excellent for a one or two night stay.
Review 2:location was advertised as Burton onTrent but it was nearly 8 mile from Burton to the Bulls head. Having said that we would stay there again if in the area'Very good overall. Very friendly staff & owners.
Review 3:The shower only had hot water for about 20 seconds and the plug did not fit very well in basin so water ran away quickly.
Review 4:The location and friendliness of staff. Food excellent too. Lots of choice and good value.
Review 5:The post code on booking.com is wrong, the owner has reported this 3 times but so far it has not been changed. It caused me lots of delay and hassel trying to find this place in the dark.
Review 6:Very friendly owners.
Review 7:The landlords were amongst the most charming, kind and genuinely interested hosts we have ever had. It was like staying with friends, even though we'd never met them before. The breakfast was scrumptious too and the whole experience was cosy beyond belief.
Review 8:Excellent, friendly, family run pub; very comfortable room, Dinner was superb, and ridiculously good value for money. Busy with locals which is always a good sign. Highly recommended.
Review 9:The owners for fantastic - really lovely people who make you feel welcome and understand how to make your stay comfortable and just what you need. Great value. Excellent choice for a solo traveller.
Review 10:Nice comfortable overnight stay , Doug and Becky were great , made us feel more like friends than customers , lovely meal and breakfast, Will definitely use again.
Review 11:Bathroom was a bit smelly but it may have been because the loo had a macerator attached. It's an old building so cannot expect completely modern bathroom.
Review 12:Very pleasant staff, interesting old building, good bar and food. Slept well on the bed.
Review 13:Staff were very friendly. Food was excellent and bed very comfortable. Visiting a relative and so convenient for that. lovely walks in the area although one had been re-routed and seemed to go awry at one point.
Review 14:Friendly helpful staff, especially the landlord who is very chatty and entertaining! Good full English breakfast. Very clean room, bathroom etc. There is parking just across the road. The pub is old and full of character, which made a pleasant change from chain hotels. I paid £69 for a family room (double bed, single bed, ensuite) and breakfast for 3 - pretty good value.
Review 15:The hospitality could not be better, what a great couple who runs the place, outstanding breakfast you could get what you wanted. Finally good WIFI!! For sure we will return!
Review 16:I was staying for a week, and space was a little limited (I had opted for a single room). The place is really food led, so it was not the sort of place to sit in the bar for the evening.
Review 17:The staff, and the food were excellent.
Review 18:This is a very minor point. The window didn't open, but it would probably have been noisy as it was at the front of the building on the main road corner.
Review 19:The location happened to suit us perfectly as we were visiting the next town. Landlady was very cheerful and helpful. Decor in the bar appealed to us as we like things Victorian, and there were several prints depicting activities of the period. Doombar on draft too!
Review 20:Fantastic friendly welcome from Doug and Becky. Room was well appointed and very clean, facilities were fine and the WIFI was good. The breakfast was superb, as were the evening meals with a good choice and good service.
Review 21:Would score the staff higher if possible! Cannot fault them, both very friendly and chatty- we felt more like friends than guests! The breakfasts too were excellent! I missed them after our weekend at the bulls head! We stayed whilst at Download Festival, and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 22:The hosts were fantastic, very welcoming and extremely friendly. The staff were also lovely. Was able to squeeze in our daughter at the last minute with no problems at all. The room was clean and spacious, food was out of this world, home cooked to perfection.
Review 23:Nothing
Review 24:We spent one at The Bulls Head and the whole experience was lovely. Becky and Doug were the perfect hosts. The evening meal and breakfast were great.
Review 25:Wonderful friendly hosts. Warm and laid back atmosphere. Great food and comfortable, clean rooms. Couldnt ask for anything more. Will definitely be coming back!
Review 26:Nothing, would love to go again !
Review 27:Everything, location, ease of parking, great menu and superb cooking and value, loved the room, staff and owners really all very welcoming.
Review 28:The only thing I can think of is that the WiFi can be temperamental - as it kicked me to a BT-Hub login page one day. And the church across the road can get a tad annoying (bells).
Review 29:The food was excellent. The beds were comfortable. The price was very good. The staff were friendly and chatty (which is a good thing). Also, very easy to get to Donnington Park.
Review 30:Always a welcome, rooms are very good and well run bar and restaurant Ending up with a very good breakfast. Also 'Doug' always comes and talk to you
Review 31:The couple who run this are extremely nice and friendly and can't do enough for you. My parents had the full English breakfast, they are in their 70's and said it's the best they have ever had. Rooms are very clean
Review 32:Unfortunately there were some plumbing issues leaving my room smelling of sewage. It was bearable but was only negative on what was otherwise a perfect stay.
Review 33:Really different place to stay. It's a pub basically but the rooms are beautifully furnished and the friendly service is miles better than anything you would get at a chain hotel. Really nice food and priced sensibly.
Review 34:Room a little on the small side but this is a pub so didn't expect a massive space.
Review 35:Comfortable room/bed, food excellent both breakfast and evening meal, wifi signal very good for work or pleasure use.Very warm and pleasant hosts.
Review 36:I had a very enjoyable stay at the Bulls Head. The room was very comfortable and the evening meal and breakfast was of a very high standard with very large portions.
Review 37:We had nothing to complain about
Review 38:A Great Family Break Destination, great food, Great accommodation, Peaceful Surroundings. Doug & Becky are real genuine people who pride themselves in reading their customers needs & wants. We felt so at home and it was as if we had known them for years. We will be back as soon as we can even if its just to drop in for a coffee. Thanks again Justin, Stephanie & William
Review 39:There is nothing to dislike
Review 40:The friendliness from the moment we arrived from the bar staff and Becky and Doug who own the pub. This old pub has a lovely atmosphere and obviously very popular with the locals. The fillet steak was second to none with great wine, both at excellent prices. We wouldn't hesitate to go back and would recommend it.
Review 41:If pushed to make a negative comment, it would simply be the need to refresh the bathroom facilities a little.
Review 42:I enjoyed the relaxing buzz of an old fashioned country inn. Warm welcome and good food. The owner and his family are perfect hosts.
Review 43:Room very small, bathroom had not been cleaned - the bath was dirty and there was shaving hairs on the mirror which was also very dusty. Sheets were stained, wallpaper stained, missing light bulb, wardrobe would not open.
Review 44:The location was lovely, staff friendly and bed was very comfortable.
Review 45:We booked a double and a family room. The double room was a bit small but adequate for the night. You couldn't book in till 6pm.
Review 46:Lovely b and b over the pub restaurant which catered well for our needs. Beds were comfy warm. Breakfast was good.Staff went out of ttheir way to help us and to make our stay comfortable
Review 47:Becky and Doug are lovely people and made our stay again excellent. We ate in the restaurant and the food was amazing and very cheap for what we had. Lovely room with great facilities. Wouldn't go anywhere else.
Review 48:Even though they were Reds, that can't be held against them as it was a lovely break - this isn't really a dislike but as a Blue, I thought I would mention it
Review 49:Lovely place to stay, hosts were very welcoming and chatty. Room was just what we wanted, warm & comfortable. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Would go back there without a second thought! Excellent
Review 50:They could have a wider range of ales.
Review 51:The owners are very friendly and this applies to the members of staff too. The room I had was very comfortable and clean. The food served in the evening is superb, home cooked food. The location is very good as its in a village with views of the countryside.
Review 52:Cannot say there was anything we didn't like - perhaps the narrowness of the stairs but one has to expect that in an old period building.
Review 53:The great hospitality and welcome of the proprietors Becky, Doug, and their staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the warmth and friendliness of this hotel, not to mention the great food.
Review 54:Bathrooms are compact, not an issue, but just as a word of advice to others.
Review 55:Lovely old inn, the bar food was excellent, and a super cooked breakfast. Very friendly helpful staff, who went out of their way to please. Very comfortable room and bed. A quiet rural location, so don't expect bright lights of a city centre.
Review 56:not enough real ales but one can only drink so many some local ones would be nice
Review 57:one of the best pub/inn places we've stayed at wonderful couple dinner was superb great atmosphere
Review 58:The single room is small. I would go for a double room if I stayed there again.
Review 59:The staff are very friendly. The evening meal on both the nights I stayed was superb. My room and the bar area was very clean.
Review 60:The owners and staff were very welcoming and helpful. I stayed for a festival for one night and was helped on my way by the generous owners. Also got free breakfast which went down a treat. Will definitely stay again.
Review 61:We cannot fault anything.
Review 62:We absolutely loved the place. We've chosen The Bulls Head to break up our journey from Scotland and we will be staying there again in the future. We've received a warm welcome, room was great and shower nice and hot. Had an evening meal there as well and food was delicious. Portions were a good size. Breakfast cooked to order and very tasty. Also the pub is located about 15 mins drive from Donnington Grand Prix Collection, which is a must if you are F1 fans like us.
Review 63:The only disappointment was the bar being closed at 2230 when we returned after being at a family party but it wasnt a problem !
Review 64:The staff were fab & Doug made a fab breakfast ! Room was lovely & it had a portable heater which came in handy as it was a bit chilly when we got in at 2230. Would certainly visit again !!
Review 65:Bathroom a bit dated Pub was shut when we arrived and didnt open till 6 and then shut early. Think guests should be able to get a drink. Was cold in room when we arrived although there was an oil filled radiator we used. Thought it was a bit pricey for what it was and location compared to some round area.
Review 66:Friendly staff and the meal we had was excellent and a really good portion size. Comfortable beds Real ales pedigree and doombar.
Review 67:Host was superb and very helpful. The meals were excellent and great value for money. If I got down there again would not hesitate to stay here. I would recommend very highly
Review 68:The friendliness of the staff was lovely. The bed was lovely and comfortable, and the room had a good TV and also a portable heater. If you don't have a large appetite then I would advise asking for a small portion, as the meals are HUGE!
Review 69:Would have liked another draught beer other than the ubiquitous Doom Bar.
Review 70:Attractive bar with some interesting features and a friendly landlord. Good pub food menu with some imaginative specials. Plenty of customers to give a little buzz to the place, but not crowded. Good service. Our double was well furnished, clean and comfortable, with good en suite facilities. Nothing flash, but quite adequate, modern and clean. Breakfast was cooked to order. Excellent coffee.
Review 71:One room occupied was very small, but a word with the proprietor offered an alternative in future
Review 72:Staff were very friendly, room clean, food good quality, bar sociable. Good value for money
Review 73:Comfortable bedroom nicely furnished with pleasant outlook. Breakfast cooked to perfection. Becky and Doug very helpful and informative. They made us feel most welcome.
Review 74:Couldn't get a proper signal on the tv It was a shame that it wasn't a pub as well as a restaurant
Review 75:Food was very good and an excellent restaurant
Review 76:A very pleasant stay. I booked a single room but Becky gave me a double. Becky and Doug are very hospitable and friendly. Made me feel most welcome. Excellent value for money.
Review 77:Car park is small and was full on arrival so had to park in overspill across the road. No breakfast menu. No items set out ie cereal, juice, sauces or preserves, although available on request.
Review 78:Good pub food with generous portions and set meal option was very good value. Comfortable, clean room. Very friendly staff.
Review 79:Although the site says that check-in is from 18:00 to 22:00 you can often ring the bell and check in earlier.
