Reviews for Newquay Lodge Hotel
Review 1:There was no bad experiences for us. The only problem was the travel o get there as we live 3 hours away but well worth it.
Review 2:Lovely property, friendly and very helpful staff. Loved the location as it was right near the nightclubs and beach. Wonderful weekend.
Review 3:The hotel was a little scruffy as in tired decor, but I believe there is going to be a massive revamp before the Spring of 2016.
Review 4:Good quiet room as requested, nice breakfast and lovely lady to look after me at breakfast time.
Review 5:Poor shower Next door to but one to night club. Noise right up to 3am. Not funny when you are right at the front of the building. No wifi although it is advertised as having it
Review 6:Excellent breakfast. Very friendly cheerful and helpful waitress. Easy parking. Restaurant next door very good food, service and reasonable priced.
Review 7:Night club across the road with music til 3 am. Previous soap left in shower and not cleaned away. It was very hot in the room where breakfast was served making it uncomfortable to eat.
Review 8:Ask for room 11 big and spacious bedroom and bathroom, though right at the top of the building. The breakfast was fabulous, lots of variety. Handy for Newcastle as only 25 mins on metro and only 5 mins from station and also 2 mins from beach
Review 9:we were staying overnight for a wedding, the location was great room very comfortable and the breakfast excellent, the bathroom could have been updated
Review 10:Bedroom , although comfy was tired needing a refit.
Review 11:Location was excellent although the noise from adjoining bars did hamper our sleep. The breakfast menu was good although service was lacking that personal touch.
Review 12:Beware of NOISY nightclub next door.Impossible to sleep if you are in the wrong room(No 4)as we were.We were offered a second room to sleep in on our second night.
Review 13:Staff very friendly, facilities fair for the price.Good breakfast.
Review 14:We stayed at this hotel last year and liked the location, friendly and obliging staff and excellent breakfast. This influenced our decision to use this hotel again this year. Once again we were highly satisfied.
Review 15:Lots of repairs needed. Noone mentioned the night club two doors away. Very noisy until after 2am. Exhausting.
Review 16:The room was clean and the food was good
Review 17:the floor boards creaked and the kettle had to be put on the floor as no plug socket near table only one bedside table on a double bed.breakfast times for sunday was 6.30 to nine thirty when check out was 11am not good value for money.
Review 18:location was good for the sea breakfast was good
Review 19:Our room was situated above a pub/bar. We were not informed of this before booking. As a result we had a very poor nights sleep due to the excessive noise beneath us.
Review 20:Breakfast included.
Review 21:I requested a quiet room as was taking part in great north run but ended up in room 7 which we heard very loud music until 2 am in the morning so not good preparation
Review 22:breakfast was very good & staff very helpfull
Review 23:No bad xperience
Review 24:Was a little apprehensive to find it in a street with nightclubs but everything was just fine. Super friendly staff will definitely be returning
Review 25:spacious bedroom and bathroom with bath and shower. Huge thick towels, hot chocolate as well as tea and coffee on tea tray. ironing board and hairdryer in room. good TV. Friendly staff, great breakfast choice.
Review 26:room was much more basic than the pictures eluded to big dirty footprint on bedding and other cleanliness not great breakfast made me very very ill bars all down street made for a noisy stay
Review 27:friendly staff nice decor in reception
Review 28:the number of stairs & being like a rabbit warren was very off putting. Also very noisy when people above used bathroom
Review 29:clean & staff were very helpful
Review 30:Nothing at all wrong with the hotel but the surrounding area was rundown .
Review 31:We liked the cleanliness the location and also the Italian next door was excellent .
Review 32:excellent breakfast and friendly staff, wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others 20 mins into 'the toon' and all of the wonderful Northumbrian coastline to explore right on your doorstep
Review 33:Breakfast was confusing and the lady in charge had too much to do so the tables weren't wiped and there was no toast. I think there needed to be another member of staff.
Review 34:Lovely staff, very helpful.
Review 35:We were in room 7 above the night club on Saturday night the noise was horrendous and had to be moved. The floor was literally vibrating we should have been told about this room in advance.
Review 36:The young Lad on reception who moved us out of room 7.
Review 37:Very basic. But for price was ok
Review 38:Staff at breakfast were friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was plentiful and good value for money.
Review 39:The shower could have been better and I would like a mug instead of a cup for the tea and coffee.
Review 40:The rooms were clean and tidy, the staff were helpful and the breakfast was good value.
Review 41:The hotel has no lift and we were offered roon 22 which to get too you had to go through several doors and many many steps which was not suitable. We were then given room 4 on the first floor but advised many guests found it too noisy because of the noise from the pub below until the early hours. This was correct and we had no sleep before 2.30am. the 2 nights we sayed but it was the lesser ot two evils. Would not stay here ever again as a result. The buffet breafast was fine except the toast which instead of toasted properly was still white.
Review 42:The Location the cleanliness of the hotel and the receptionist Lynn who was very friendly courtious and tried without success to sort out the room problem but she did advise us in advance what to expect in room 4.
Review 43:We emailed to see if we could check in earlier as we were attending a wedding ,were emailed back ans told that the room would be ready for 1oclock.The receptionist even phoned for a taxi to get us to the wedding venue.Excellent customer service from arrival to departing.
Review 44:Shower didn't work. Breakfast not cooked fresh. Carpets and furnishings shabby. Lots of stairs. Pub underneath some rooms, night time noise.
Review 45:Staff friendly. Shower didn't work so installed new one on second day.
Review 46:Window was broken in bathroom and would bot open. Noisy when asleep as there is a night lub across the road open until 2 AM. Qlso the wifi didnt seem to reach our room (11) on the top floor.
Review 47:The bed was surprisingly comfy. The breakfast was out of this world.
Review 48:First impressiion from outside as parking in front of nxt door to Reception.
Review 49:Breakfast was good plenty of choice. Mentioned problem with showerhead and fixed within mins.
Review 50:It was located to the noisiest nightclub in town, the music stopped at 3.30a.m. and the revellers didn't disperse until an hour later so hardly any sleep was had.
Review 51:Shower unreliable but certainly not a deal breaker
Review 52:Room 17 clean quiet. Plentiful breakfast and eat as much as you like. Great value. Was just what I wanted
Review 53:the wifi connection was not very good even though there was a hub outside my room it didnt work at all
Review 54:the room was very tidy and clean. nice comfy bed, excellent value for money at £35 single with breakfast
Review 55:No lift but no problem to anyone fairly fit just one flight of stairs I will certainly stay again
Review 56:Staff pleasant and helpful Room ensuite Nice and clean Breakfast fresh hot and plentiful with good choice The whole place smelt fresh
Review 57:The only reason we booked here was the fact that they had a Bar and as we had teenagers with us we thought we could relax in the evening in the bar and the kids could go to their room and we wouldn't have to worry. The Sands Bar (as it advertised) is a breakfast bar with 5 optics and a few bottles of lager, we weren't allowed to sit in the breakfast bar with our drinks so 5 of my family members had to sit on the 2 seats in the reception area. It really did ruin our break for us. It's nothing but False Advertising. The hotel owns the bar next door but that's also a nightclub and my father-in-law hung up his dancing shoes years ago. I suggest the hotel explains this to anyone booking that Sands Bar is basically a breakfast bar and not in use for anything else. False Advertising at its best. Turn the Heating down, the hotels far too hot and our bedroom window was sealed shut with sealant.
Review 58:Nice hotel and location was good. We booked 5 rooms for a family break (there was 10 of us altogether) visiting relatives in the area and all the rooms were well presented and clean. Breakfast was spot on and all the staff were nice, pleasant and very helpful.
Review 59:No hot water in bath. Toilet roll holder falling off wall. View of roof and fire escape. Area run down. Carpark limited. Some single sex groups do could be noisy.
Review 60:Staff really friendly and helpful. Breakfast fantastic
Review 61:Thursday night club under my bedroom until 2am, then howling, shouting & fighting in the street - assuming also on Friday & Saturday but didn't stay as planned. My elderly parents should have been warned. Very disappointed to be misled by owners.
Review 62:nice location but spoiled by noise
Review 63:Very very very very very...... very noisy. Located above a bar with a 2AM license. Would have appreciated a heads up when booking
Review 64:Staff very friendly. Great location
Review 65:There was a very noisy event just up the road until 2.0 am. There were old food wrappers under the bed!
Review 66:Hotel was conveniently located and the staff, especially the lady who did the breakfast, were lovely.
Review 67:Breakfast waitress a bit grumpy and seemed quite miserable - clearly dishy want to be there!!
Review 68:Nice room, lovely breakfast and very helpful reception staff.
Review 69:our room floor was on a slant! Breakfast was full English but serve yourself and there was limited vegetarian options. as I don't like mushrooms, my breakfast consisted of hash browns and beans. the only eggs available were scrambled. On the Saturday morning the breakfast host brought us tea and coffee and asked if we wold like toast, but on the sunday, even though there were more staff, it was "tea's up there with coffee. you get it yourself" when we said we had been served it the day before we were told it depended on how many people were staying, but this was not made clear anywhere. we felt ignored and had to ask for toast.
Review 70:receptionist on arrival was very friendly and helpful. Our room had a shower over a bath.
Review 71:The room was dire there wasn't a single picture on the walls. No wardrobe just a rail and 2 coat hangers There was one plug point the rest was extention leads. The person on reception took our money as we checked in I am sure she did this because she knew we wouldn't have stayed otherwise.the cost of the stay was £70 which is ridiculous considering the total charmlessness of the room. I have read positive reviews of this hotel but I can only surmise they didn't stay in room 37.
Review 72:The only positive thing I can say is that the bed was comfortable .
Review 73:Breakfast, no spoons anywhere to get jam out of jars, toast brought to table by blonde lady in her hands no toast rake , not even on a plate then had to take it back as it had to be shy of toaster white was the colour, even second day toast still white, and if you don't say toast for two you only get toast for one person, it's like no spoons about only on tables and no butter only when they bring them to you if a 3 star this should all be there , people should not have to keep asking
Review 74:Nice and clean
Review 75:Bit of noise from the night club across the road but not intrusive.
Review 76:Very nice room and breakfast. Short walk to the esplanade. Nice walk along esplanade past Spanish City to St Marys lighthouse.
Review 77:If you are not there to party late, it's very noisy because of nearby clubs. This is not the hotel's fault of course, but if you need a good night's sleep this isn't for you.
Review 78:Stafff, Breakfast, room, proximity to sea etc,
Review 79:Had room on the front on the top of nightclub was very noisy but it didn't cause any of our party to lose any sleep
Review 80:Great location , excellent value for money ,friendly staff most of all excellent breakfast !!
Review 81:not really a bad experience, the breakfast left a lot to be desired, I am not keen on buffet breakfast, the food tends to be dry, I prefer freshly cooked.
Review 82:The staff, friendliness and helpful
Review 83:The breakfast was excellent but spoiled by the morose, unfriendly lady waiting on. We felt very uncomfortable and couldnt wait to leave the dining room.
Review 84:Young man on reception when we arrived was a credit to you. warm friendly and helpful.
Review 85:Pity about the nightclub!
Review 86:Stayed in room 12 & 13. Room 13 is at the top and has double, single and futon so would sleep a family of four. Lovely velux windows and very well decorated. Pity however about the night club across the road (room is on the front) so noisy but others might not hear it! Room 12 was at the back so the noise wasn't heard. Again well decorated with a double and a single. Lovely breakfast and staff really nice.
Review 87:Wifi didnot work, router only 3 yards away! Toilet seat hinge broken, slipping all over! Bath handle snapped in two, bath/shower tiles very grimey grout! Also TV in totally wrong place/angle to be watched from Beds, only 1 chair triple room?
Review 88:Staff great on arrival and at breakfast time. Location was great, first look room was fine BUT then... (see didn't like)
Review 89:The room was disgusting and dirty. Toilet roll holder fell off the wall.Beds were awful. Generally very unhappy to which we only stayed onenight of the two we booked and were told there was no refund for thesecond night! Won't be going back and not recommending it!
Review 90:Nothing
Review 91:I found the bed under the window a bit uncomfortable as I woke up with a crick in my neck.
Review 92:The staff are very friendly and amenable and very obliging. I will definetly consider staying here again.
Review 93:The free Wi-Fi didn't connect for a couple of days, then suddenly it did! If you need the internet, it would be better to have a 3G/4G/LTE phone with you, to make sure. Would have liked comfy chairs in room (we did not have any) and for the TV to be easier to view from the bed, instead of from a 90 degree angle.
Review 94:The helpful, friendly staff were always cheerful. We had a comfortable bed in a warm room with adjustable radiators. The breakfast was very nice.
Review 95:Rock hard bed. Gurgling sink & bath drains. Creaking floor boards. Whole building very hot, especially the dining area.
Review 96:Friendly staff. Very good breakfast. Clean.
Review 97:As our room was on the front of the building on the main street inWhitley, we imagined and expected a bit of noise in the eve and wasperfectly prepared to accept this as the norm. However, what wedidn't expect was being able to hear the music from the nightclub(that was apparently directly underneath our hotel room) whilst in ourroom. This was at an unacceptably high level, we simply couldn'tbelieve it when we got back to our room after a nice evening out. Notonly could you feel the vibrations from the baas through the floor andthrough the bed but the furniture was vibrating too! Absolutelyridiculous and I'm certain would not be acceptable by any hoteliersstandards for sleeping accommodation. Big let down.
Review 98:Nice clean, bright and spacious room. Ironing board, good hairdryer, toiletries supplied.
Review 99:No ground floor rooms, no accessible toilets downstairs. Not suitable for any disabled person. Buffet breakfast, prefer cooked to order.
Review 100:Friendly staff.
Review 101:There were times I couldn't use WiFi. Wasn't clear which server should be selected. As a young single woman I felt that the policy on bringing people back to your room should be made clear at check in. Some people are too embarrassed to ask.
Review 102:I loved staying at this hotel. I have stayed in a few in Whitley bay and this has been the best so far. Staff are friendly and very helpful.
Review 103:The WiFi didn't work once in our room witch was 12 but don't let that put you off there's plenty of WiFi round about there so I got online but just couldn't access it over night due to places being shut
Review 104:Like to thank the staff for putting up with me and my friend wee where very drunk and deeply apologise but you're only 21 once
Review 105:Cleanliness, attention to detail, comfort and lovely breakfast. Even given a lunch time snack to enjoy the next day, (which we didn't expect) - and a lovely carvery next door costing £4.99 for a superb meal.
Review 106:Kept awake with squeaky floorboards and banging doors - room was spacious but was lacking comfy seats
Review 107:Great breakfast choice however it was all cooked early in the morning and was kept lukewarm via hot plates
Review 108:Lack of basic facilities Breakfast The long trek to room 30.. Location of furniture In room Tea & coffee facilities (amounts) dire for length of stay.i know it's free but the trek back was a mission. Arguably the registration reception was unsurpassable as it was non existent other than to pay before stay policy which spoke volumes..as to what the rooms looked like for real. Badly advertised as too the weekend revellers & noise levels
Review 109:We liked being so close to the sea front Liked the sense of humour that this was classed as a hotel..lol..
Review 110:Room cold no heating in room also not enough coffee wanted more than one cup
Review 111:The peace and quiet even though it was valiant ones weekend and the nightclub was open it was ok
Review 112:only thing was the bed was a little bit to soft for us but thats just a personal choice.
Review 113:very friendly staff, very clean, good location I would recommend
Review 114:Noisy party until midnight though offered a free upgrade but party still underneath. Bed not particularly comfortable compared to Premier Inn
Review 115:Excellent breakfast
Review 116:Newquay lodge was closed. We were moved to the royal on sea front.room was a bit shabby. Carpet worn. our room was on top floor at back of hotel no outlook.
Review 117:Breakfast was very nice. Staff very pleasant.
Review 118:The steep stairs!quality of beds poor and workmen going to work banginging doors also coming in latevat night we got aboutbtwo hours sleep
Review 119:The hotel rooms were large and warm fairly clean
Review 120:WiFi bit in and out..
Review 121:Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast nothing too much trouble.Would recommend this hotel to all.
Review 122:breakfast not quite hot enough, shower head not the type I like, lights above the beds didn't work, radiators were not on, didn't respond to controls.
Review 123:clean room, decent sized tv, comfy bed with duvet , helpful staff, would return.
Review 124:No lock on bedroom window, it was held open with a plastic bottle.
Review 125:The room was a decent size and was very warm. Nice size bathroom which was spotlessly clean. There was plenty of choice for breakfast served by a friendly housekeeper. Location was easy for town and seafront.
Review 126:Price of drinks a little steep. Not sure if the building will have a lift because it is obviously being refurbished but stairs could be a difficult for someone with a knee problem, which is the case with my husband.
Review 127:Cleanliness, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, bathroom towels and toiletries, facilities to make drinks, close to the sea front, excellent Italian Restaurant next door. Would certainly use this hotel again.
Review 128:Scaffolding and lack of a bar because there didnt appear to be one either that or we werent told of one
Review 129:No fuss hotel and warm helpful staff with a really good breakfast. would stop there again
Review 130:weekend wasn't long enough
Review 131:great time spent here. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast in the morning was much needed and very filling. Couldn't ask for anymore.
Review 132:Staff were so helpful and friendly. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Altogether we were very pleased with our choice and are looking forward to visiting again.
Review 133:Somewhat expensive but I suspect this was due to the Great North Run pushing prices up everywhere in Newcastle.
Review 134:Good location. Good breakfast. Tea making facilities, bottled water, TV, quiet room.
Review 135:The bathroom was very good, but the toilet was right next to the window and, given the position of the bathroom light, would have given a wonderful view for those outside, even through frosted glass. Despite claims of there being a licensed bar, there isn't one, although there is a licensed restaurant next door. It isn't the hotel's fault, but at 3.00am on a Sunday morning there is a lot of noise in the street outside from revellers returning home. If you have limited mobility, it is worth noting that there is no lift in the hotel.
Review 136:I opted for a premier single room, which was spacious and comfortable. The staff were extremely good. There was a good supply of toiletries in the bathroom and nicely laundered towels.
Review 137:On arriving the price had increased so make sure you take booking details with you as I had, this was soon sorted. Premier rooms should have had dressing gowns & slippers...ours didnt but this wasnt a problem as only booked one night for a wedding.
Review 138:I booked two Premier single rooms as I was travelling with my granddaughter..we both had large clean rooms, good bathroom and facilities were excellent as were the staff. Both enjoyed the very good english breakfast. I would definitely stay again.
Review 139:Tv signal not good well in rm 2, mentioned to staff, next day man came to rectify , still not that good. Internet the same even with hotels wi fi password. Breakfast --- after had your juice and cereal, normally cold, bacon tough, , black pudding like rocks, mentioned to hotel owner, whom explained the staff just got new hot plate to keep food warm getting used to it, ( don't really no if that's a good excuse) as health and safety recommend food temperatures. Shower either too hot or too cold no happy medium, ---- however these are teething problems which this hotel can address , I would go again for weekend break in future but I don't no why I would not recommend it . Also think its not professional while guests having breakfast , hotel staff pops in for bacon sandwich in dining area to me u don't do that.
Review 140:Staff exceptionally friendly and welcoming, nothing to trouble for them, if u have an issue with anything they will with the owner rectify it for you. Clean, fresh rooms, never cold central heating works a treat.breakfast full English , and they lay out a good spread, and regularly check on your tea and coffee re fills.
Review 141:Perhaps a little to close to "The Deep" nightclub on a Friday and Saturday Night !!!! - but that finds NO fault with the hotel whatsoever. ( It was actually quite entertaining to observe the antics of the clubs clientele at throwing out time......!)
Review 142:Comfort, furnishings, staff attitude, breakfast, comfy beds, lots of hot water - all fantastic.Total value for money and I will stay again without any hesitation. The Restaurant next door - separate business but with a connection I believe - is also excellent and highly recommended.
The Fine Print
