Reviews for Orles Barn
Review 1:We had expected one of the larger rooms but initially were taken to a small one - not the one illustrated on Booking.com's website. Apparently this happens a lot when booking through Booking.com but the situation was resolved as, thankfully, the ground floor suite was available and we were moved into that one.
Review 2:Apart from the initial hiccup with the room, everything was fantastic - warm and friendly owners, comfortable room, great building in a great location. We're looking forward to returning after the refurbishment works are completed when we reckon the scores will be top notch.
Review 3:There was a marquee out the back with no toilet facilities, so the customers were coming back through the restaurant lots of chaos Not good, so we got moved to a new table.
Review 4:All the old fashioned way, furniture etc
Review 5:My husband and I loved our stay here - we stayed for three nights and we're looking for a relaxing break.... which we certainly got! We felt really welcomed and at home right from the beginning, nothing was too much trouble and our room was perfect! (Pixie Apple) - I especially enjoyed the roll top bath, a real luxury experience. Breakfast was really good, a good selection, something for everyone and especially good sausages. :) I would recommend a stay here without hesitation and look forward to our next visit.
Review 6:For an older couple a free standing shower would have been a better option because it was difficult to get in the bath and the only handle was on the outside of the glass shower panel - it would have been better to have had a ground floor room too
Review 7:The room had plenty of space and had everything you could need
Review 8:Breakfast was a bit basic
Review 9:The owner was really friendly and had some local knowledge. Had recently taken over the property and were working hard to make a great place to stay.
Review 10:If I was being mega critical I would have liked the bar to have had bitter on tap, perhaps Craig can look at this for the future, I know he has only been at the hotel for 6 weeks so you cant expect miracles.
Review 11:All staff from top to bottom were very sociable. We had room number 6 which had a good size bedroom, a nice bathroom and a television room with a nice settee in. (Happy Days). Restaurant was spot on and spotlessly clean.
Review 12:Little hard to find. Need to give a street number and name
Review 13:This is a little gem that has a wonderful homely feel. The new owners are enthusiastic, friendly and willing to please. Would definitely recommend it to everyone
Review 14:We arrived to find the place closed. No prior warning, no email or other contact made to warn us. Message on door looked old and the building looked uncared for and uninviting.
Review 15:Nothing.
Review 16:The wretched place was deserted when we arrived and closed down looking derelict No one had the courtesay to warn of this fact so we travelled for 4 hours to find a closed down hotel
Review 17:I have stayed here a couple of times. Last night I could not believe that when I arrived at 7.45pm for an overnight stay there was a note pinned to the front door saying that due to an electrical fault the hotel was closed. I had not been notified and felt distressed. No-one from the hotel was on site to explain what was happening. I think that was a terrible situation to be left in, at that time of night. No apology has been offered. Would never return!!
Review 18:location
Review 19:Room furnishings were looking tired (stained net curtain and curtains) although the bedding was clean. We were not shown to the the room, just given the key and advised your room is upstairs on the left at the end of the hall. Breakfast was average. The cereal was only 2 choices. Toast was wafer thin. Will not return.
Review 20:I thought that the fact there was a wedding at the venue we should have been advised. Breakfast was okay ish but nothing special
Review 21:The building itself was beautiful
Review 22:within 1 hour of arrival the fire alarm activated. Staff could not rectify the problem. The noise was so loud we went out for 2 hours. On returning the alarm had not been fixed. We sat in our car. The alarm was fixed by late night. 2nd night the electrical power failed. Luckily we had a torch. There were no staff on the premises, there was no emergency telephone number to contact any of the staff. This could have turned into a dangerous situation not only for us but the other guests who were also wandering around with torches wondering what to do! I might also add the TV did not work on all channels and the wifi kept loosing connection to the internet. We were meant to stay for 4 nights overall. We left on the morning of the 3rd day.
Review 23:Leaving the Hotel
Review 24:A few lightbulbs needed replacing in our room and floor had not been hoovered properly as there were some beeds I trod on obviously from a dress on the carpet.
Review 25:Restaurant food was good and breakfast with slick service
Review 26:Very pretty room, spoiled by the noise from the kitchen extractor fan outside of my bedroom window.
Review 27:The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and the building is very attractive with lovely garden space.
Review 28:When we arrived there was no record of our booking initially until the computer was checked. The error was rectified quickly by a very helpful member of staff!!
Review 29:We booked the bridal suite as the stay was for our wedding anniversary. It was a beautiful room and we had a very enjoyable stay.
Review 30:There was a beam running in the middle of the room on the ceiling and my boyfriend is quite tall (wasn't a problem for me:-) ) but it worried us a little that he might forget about it and end up with head injuries. The room a bit small but ok for the value
Review 31:pleasant colours, really liked how it was decorated with good taste, breakfast was very nice
Review 32:Situated on a very busy dual carriage way and my room was situated where I could hear all the traffic. Didn't ruin my stay however. I would return but choose a room around the other side overlooking the lovely garden.
Review 33:Lovely cosy little hotel with warm friendly atmosphere
Review 34:Our first feeling when we arrived outside was disappontment as sign outside was covered in cobwebs and there were weeds in the car park.Breakfast provision was variable-fair on day 1 and better on day 2.No phone in room and if want to drink own wine etc in your room there is a corkage fee??! Niceish room and decor spoiled by lack of attention to detail eg damp stain on ceiling and window shelves not clean and had some flies on them! Room not serviced after night one as they had lost keys and there was no offer of compensation.Overall disappointed and definitely not worth its 4star rating
Review 35:location good but there was nothing else that we particularly liked and overall were disappointed as photos etc certainly did not convey the place accurately enough!
Review 36:The suite we had lacked TLC. The lounge was very sparse with a small tv far too high up and the bedroom was very squashed
Review 37:The food was excellent ( we had dinner there as well as breakfast)
Review 38:Arrived back at hotel at 9pm as we were staying in the Sidlington Russel not in the main hotel,we were unable to get in to the bar ,buzzed no answer all staff had gone home .Bar closed at 9 pm !!!!
Review 39:Rooms
Review 40:No wifi- unacceptable No telephone in the room- what about H&S I paid for breakfast but it wasn't availabe till 8:30am- when on business I expect to have breakfast before I leave at 7:30am
Review 41:It was clean and tidy and chef was friendly!
Review 42:We visitied for 1 night back in February straight after we'd got married and loved it so much that we wanted to return and stay longer. We stayed in the Bridal suite again and it's so beautiful; we loved the bah and the separate dressing room. It's very comfortable.
Review 43:Coffee at breakfast was stewed and burnt. Bacon and egg both overlooked but the ingredients seemed to be of good quality.
Review 44:The room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed.
Review 45:Room was excellent, furnishing in rooms and through out the property were of a high standard, food was excellent, wines and spirit prices were very reasonable
Review 46:Room smelt musky and damp with wallpaper coming off wall, twin beds to small, shower was under powered and room is well over due an update
Review 47:Location and breakfast was excellent
Review 48:Bed was a bit firm for us.
Review 49:Welcoming, Friendly and Attentive Staff. Fantastic "Cordon Bleu" food. Wonderful quant accomadation, parking and gardens. Such a relaxing place to be.
Review 50:The hotel was a little difficult to find - we had to stop and ask someone for directions - it is on a very small road just off the roundabout. Bar area was not very inviting. Choice of vegetarian options for dinner was disappointing, although the chef did provide an alternative. Some difficulty with getting hot water in shower.
Review 51:Lot of choice on breakfast menu. Upgraded to bridal suite - lovely. Very spacious, big comfy bed and large bath.Quiet, close to river and easy walking distance of Ross on Wye.
Review 52:Furniture could do with a wipe over. I know it's shabby chic but there were coffee stains from the previous people who stayed there.
Review 53:The decor, we had our own access to the ground floor suite. Fantastic staff and breakfast.
Review 54:The towel rail in the shower room didn't switch off and the room was so hot. We chose to eat in the restaurant and the presentation of the food was out of this world, as to be expected with a starter @ £10 and main £20 BUT the sauce that was served with my partners duck starter was acrid and tasted burnt. It was hard to say anything as the quality of produce was amazing but we fed this back to our waitress. Then unfortunately both my partner and my main were served with a burnt sauce also. The scallops in my starter, even though amazingly flavoured were tiny, much smaller than I have ever had in the past or cooked myself. Such a shame and completely unacceptable due to the rating and price bracket. An spoken apology was given to us by the waitress after the starter but nothing else. Unfortunately wouldn't recommend this restaurant moving forward which is a terrible shame as the overall experience was great.
Review 55:The quality and standard of the accommodation was absolutely out of this world! It was a our 3yr anniversary and it was a beautiful place to stay. Even though on the main road it was peaceful. We were in Orange Pippin with a slipper bath in the room. Just stunning! Fantastic breakfast also. We will definitely recommend a stay over
Review 56:Shame room couldn't receive wifi but not a big issue and certainly not worth mentioning to staff. It is not to say that I didn't like this fact just inserted for information
Review 57:Arrived after long day to find room did not have a bath - staff quickly resolved that with a smile - I think they took our wish too literally as the next room had a bath in the room aswell as well-equipped bathroom. Lovely room and pleasant dinner. Our only regret was not being able to make breakfast - but that was our choice!! Bar area was very comfortable/relaxing and could have stayed there all night!!
Review 58:Noise of traffic, and other guests upstairs(noisy)windows single glazing(not that warm)expensive for what it was(furniture was cheap and painted over)food wasent great,
Review 59:Beds,comfortable ,design of bathroom ,extra room (lounge)convenient location, friendy staff and very helpfull.
Review 60:Nothing...visit was too short
Review 61:The welcome my friend and I received was lovely, made to feel welcome immediately. The sofas in the bar area were just too comfortable!! :) the bedroom was small but lovely. The bed was extremely comfortable and the welcome gifts in the room were thoughtful..even down to dressing gowns for our use whilst there. So thoughtful, and it was nice to see the decor not being fussy but complimented with the nik naks on units and shelves. Just pretty, and just right
Review 62:The decor is a little tired in places for a 5 star hotel.
Review 63:We arrived late at night and were greeted by a very pleasant young man who showed us to our room. The room was a beautiful surprise with a lovely bath. There were lovely touches including The White Linen Company toiletries, complementary mineral water and a cafetiere with fresh coffee. Breakfast was a good variety with quality ingredients. If we are ever in the area again we will definately stay.
Review 64:From the outside, the place looked a bit neglected and we were surprised by its close proximity to the main road. Went to have a bath on our first night, only to find there was no hot water! Went and told a member of staff who came up and ran the tap, as if she didn't believe us! Wasn't resolved that evening so not happy. In the morning, eventually, we had hot water. The shelf in the shower cubicle was broken so you couldn't stand any toiletries on it, which wasn't ideal. When we checked out, we said about the hot water issue. The girl on the desk said had the Manager not explained the problem? I told her we had no idea what the problem was. To be honest, she didn't really seem interested and just listened to our comments. Whilst our room was nice, the whole experience was let down because of the hot water issue. I don't think I would recommend this to friends and after watching 'Four In A Bed' it felt like a different place. The girl said that programme hadn't done them any favours! I suggest they either change their website to reflect the property as it currently is, or improve the standards to how it was before. I think the cost was high, taking all things into consideration.
Review 65:Our room was lovely and very well equipped. A large very comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast in the morning.
Review 66:A lick of paint wouldn't go amiss. The signage was difficult to spot coming from the North.
Review 67:Catering staff normally work until 9pm, we arrived at 10.05pm as we were travelling from Birmingham Airport and the M50 had been closed. They then cooked a fresh meal! They left at 10.50pm. We felt very special and the staff were really welcoming and lovely
Review 68:We stayed in one of the suites and absolutely loved it! We were sad to go. The room was beautiful, and the breakfast was great too! Would definitely go back again!
Review 69:Initially we were booked into the ground floor suite but did not like it. Very basic and sparse. We were offered a room change which we loved.
Review 70:Loved the dining room overlooking the gardens.
Review 71:The fact that we could not stay longer as we were en route to another appointment.
Review 72:Real olde world hotel/restaurant A friendly, warm welcome . Room really clean and comfortable . We had an evening meal and a cooked breakfast the following morning , both excellent . Will definitely return .
Review 73:We paid £340 to stay for 3 nights and we didn't stay 1 night. The room we were given was very very noisy. Outside our room was the kitchen fan, which sounded like a jet engine and on top of that the there was constant noise from the room below. We asked the staff if we could be moved to a quieter room, but they advise they couldn't as they were fully booked. However it appeared we were only guests and when we checked in, the guest register hadn't been completed for over a 10 days when the last guest left. I think they reserve there worse rooms for the bargain traveller. We also had to pay for the night we didn't stay and didn't get an apology either. So overall wish we had bothered.
Review 74:Nothing
Review 75:Each room needs an iron and board, seems a shame when everything else is provided so well. A bit hard to find given its location, went round the block a few times.
Review 76:I had suite 5, own door and very spacious with a lounge, big bedroom and lovely bathroom The best bit - the bathroom lights twinkled like stars in the sky! Food was very lovely.
Review 77:The cosy room with everything we needed. Made to feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent. The night before we were able to have exactly what we needed for evening food, arriving a little late, not having booked for an evening meal. Thank you.
Review 78:The restaurant is a key part of the Orles barn experience but I found it lacks atmosphere, food good but a little expensive for the experience, sorry
Review 79:Room was really good, clean with al you would need , comfortable bed good shower etc, parking is good and staff pleasant.
Review 80:Car park very tatty also outside of property. Showcase at entrance to car park very scruffy and menus in it so faded they could not be read. Rear garden unkempt. Overall impression place was very run down and struggling.
Review 81:When we stayed at Orles Barn in September we were going through a lovely Indian Summer. Molly Delicious is a room situated above the kitchen and from 7.45 in the morning the very loud extractor fan goes on just outside the window. Because it was so hot we had to have the windows open (which are not double glazed) so the noise was very loud. When we came back in the afternoon it was still on and it became very annoying. It was turned off over night. That is the only fault we can find with this lovely Hotel and if we stay again would ask for a different room because of the noise in that one.
Review 82:Molly Delicious was the name of the room. It is a very pretty room with excellent facilities. Dressing gowns provided and a good selection of tea, coffee and biscuits. The bathroom is excellent. We both had a good nights sleep. Best breakfast for a long time. My husband had a full English which was first class and I had the best scrambled eggs I have ever had. We had a meal the night before in the Restaraunt which was excellent. All in all a lovely 2 night stay.
Review 83:nothing to do with the actual hotel just tackling the roundabout to get to it!!!
Review 84:Cleanliness, comfort and friendliness of the staff. The meals were excellent, especialy enjoyed the breakfasts. Would certainly recommend it.
Review 85:nothing not to like about this wonderful place
Review 86:everything,luxury room, food, staff, parking facilities, even the walk along the river was worth a visit. probably one of the nicest places i have had the fortune to stay in, cannot recommend it highly enough. I have stayed in a few places within the main town and although it is a short walk into town from this accommodation i would choose orles barn time after time. Cannot wait until my next visit.
Review 87:Thought cost was expensive. Had noisy extractor fan outside room which we were told would be switched off at night but it wasn't. Couldn't have windows open as so noisy.
Review 88:Location was good, 10 min walk to town and nice walk.
Review 89:On returning to the hotel at 10.30 pm and unable to open front door due to broken lock, lady on intercom very curt, receptionist called from home, who was aware of the unstable lock, she had to climb through a very small window to let us in. This was not satisfactory.
Review 90:1)one bed light not working and toilet seat almost off. Whilst reported day 1 nothing had been done/said by the time we left 3 days later. 2) b/fast served 0830/0930hrs but can have earlier/later if you ask the day before. Last morning we asked for 0800-0815hrs. b/fast order taken at 0810hrs and few minutes later told we could not have a cooked b/fast as the chef said we were too early. no customer focus whatsoever
Review 91:Separate lounge area from bedroom was a very good aspect but whole property needs a bit of TLC.
Review 92:Great food. Quiet room overlooking the back of the hotel. Really appreciated that the hotel had honoured my request for twin beds in room. Would visit again.
Review 93:Comfortable room overlooking the rear garden no noise from the nearby A40. The dinner was superb locally sourced food including the wonderful Hereford Hop cheese! Breakfast was superb. The staff were all friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Will definitely return
Review 94:Mattress was quite hard and not very comfortable, and the noise from the very busy main road adjacent to the property meant we didn't have a good restful sleep. Could not get any BBC channels at all on the TV in our room.
Review 95:White Company toiletries, food (breakfast and evening meal both very good), home made biscuits in room, bathrobes, good shower, decor, choice of pillows. Good WiFi availability.
Review 96:Bed very old and uncomfortable Restaurant dinner very poor and food dreadful. Breakfast very pitiful and tasteless. Restaurant seemed to have the buget of a refugee camp,, very mean with quality and quantity.
Review 97:Room Good
Review 98:No vegie cooked breakfast.
Review 99:Room was beautifully decorated & staff were very accommodating. Only problem - no vegie option for a cooked breakfast, so asked for just eggs mushrooms and beans but got tiny portions. Other than that, a great place to stay!!
Review 100:Nothing!
Review 101:Beautiful setting, tastefully furnished, food excellent, staff friendly. It was a very hot day and there was a lovely large fan provided in the bedroom. Easy car parking.
Review 102:Carpet in bedroom needs cleaning or replacing. It is stained. Dinner was very disappointing. We stayed there mainly because the food was recommended. The rib eye steak was very poor quality, full of fat. I pointed it out to the waitress who said she would tell the chef. And that was it! Heard nothing more. The whole meal was very ordinary.
Review 103:Nice room. Good renovated bathroom. Good tea tray selection. Nice toiletries. Excellent breakfast.
Review 104:It is an excellent location as a base for sightseeing, friendly staff, comfortable and spacious suites and downstairs lounge, excellent menu and wine selections. Your every need catered for in house. Will stay again when in the area
Review 105:We had twin rooms and a sitting room. It was very noisy from room above. The shower did not work properly. The lamp and fire.did not work in the seating area. Just felt for the money we would have expected a better standard.
Review 106:Looked fresh and bright in the main part of the house. Very good breakfast.
Review 107:Very comfortable rooms, staff were extremely attentive but not too much so (particularly as a business traveller, I like to be left to my own devices), the food was first class. Would highly recommend.
Review 108:Ample parking. Friendly reception. Luxurious room (Pixie Apple). Spotlessly clean. Very comfortable bed. No discernable road noise. Superb breakfasts. 5 minute walk to the riverside pub. 15 mins walk to Ross.
Review 109:No longer cosy comfort now half way to a pub like all the rest
Review 110:Comfortable accommodation Very friendly and helpful owners, nothing was to much trouble or them
Review 111:The staff were so friendly and welcoming, we felt like part of their family.
Review 112:It was all excellent
Review 113:Very friendly staff
Review 114:They went bust and I could not find a replacement accommodation.
Review 115:I liked the location
Review 116:Nice spacious room
Review 117:Shabby
Review 118:Room was very small
Review 119:Friendly,helpful staff.
Review 120:Could have been a little cleaner.
Review 121:Great ground floor room for dogs.
Review 122:bit pricey, had a problem getting in at night but resolved very well
Review 123:lovely room and good breakfast
Review 124:No wifi in our room. Needed a little maintenance in places.
Review 125:Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely character.
Review 126:Front of hotel and first take on appearance from the road is not good and in need of a tidy up.
Review 127:Very Good Room and a good breakfast. Staff very good.
Review 128:really clean, lovely room, nice food and very friendly staff
Review 129:Felt the dining and lounge area were chilly.
Review 130:Very friendly service and food lovely. Accommodation lovely.
