Reviews for The Chase Hotel
Review 1:No issues at all
Review 2:The staff were efficient but friendly Food I restaurant excellent plus service provided by staff especially Daniel Room clean and comfortable
Review 3:One complaint the stay did include breakfast, but kitchen was closed that morning for refurb.Should have told us when booking and paying for what we thought was bed & breakfast .bad show
Review 4:Very impressed with the hotel building and grounds ,and parking was excellent..room was clean and comfortable, heating was great .Dinner served in the excellent dining room was as good as any top london hotel.
Review 5:Nothing to particularly dislike as such, but the place was soulless, almost empty
Review 6:Location was good Breakfast was reasonable (although not a patch on The Kings Head up the road where I stayed the night before!)
Review 7:The Receptionist went out of her way to allocate me a room away from the noisy function which was taking place. She was a real asset to the hotel - friendly, efficient and with a real passion to please.
Review 8:Standard double room was very small. No lift.
Review 9:Lovely building in beautiful setting & only 5 minutes walk into town centre. Staff very friendly & helpful. Excellent breakfasts. Got a good deal through Booking.com
Review 10:The heating wasn't working in the room (it was very cold!) but staff were very quick to fix the problem (providing us with an electric heater)
Review 11:The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent-very varied selection and delicious
Review 12:Noisy "fan" outside the room small television.long noisy toilet flush.
Review 13:Plenty of car parking, comfy bed and Soft towels in the bathroom.excellent breakfast
Review 14:The bacon at breakfast looked like dried meat and was hard to chew. How one can spoil bacon is beyond my imagination. No meet and greet at breakfast, because there was only one waitress on duty, who was rushed off her feet. But well done to her for being attentive and very obliging.
Review 15:Ample safe parking. two thirds of the cooked breakfast was fine
Review 16:Technical issues with the Internet and the tv signal were disappointing but already being looked into by the hotel. So cannot fault this unforseen issue.
Review 17:The food at Harry s on site was exquisite. Be it for a steak or the breakfast, everything was cooked beyond perfection.
Review 18:My auntie who was staying as well nearly fell on the stairs and had nothing to hold onto if my uncle and sister hadn't been there it doesn't bear thinking about.
Review 19:Nothing was too much trouble very helpful
Review 20:having to leave so early, could easily have stayed another day
Review 21:Helpful friendly staff who catered for my wife (requiring gluten free options at meal times) without issue. Perfect.
Review 22:The room was hot so we had to have the windows open but the room was above the kitchen so all we could smell was food. Very noisy hotel.
Review 23:A nice place in a lovely spacious plot.
Review 24:Hard pillows! Hotel had a better deal with an upgrade to include dinner which was a very high standard. Less expensive to book this deal direct with the hotel. Very unusual in our experience!
Review 25:Location and excellent food. Public areas also very good
Review 26:difficult wifi access, room window was over kitchen so we could smell what was cooking. Mattress was uncomfortable.
Review 27:fantastic landscape and location. Good breakfast
Review 28:Found the pillows very hard and not very comfortable. Also waited a long time for breakfast on first morning and had to ask for it and when it came it was lukewarm.
Review 29:Hotel and location were excellent, staff friendly.
Review 30:The fact that they had no lift.
Review 31:Everything but in particular Mark one of the staff went above and beyond the call of duty to be friendly and helpful. An asset to the hotel.
Review 32:Waiting an hour for the cooked breakfast to be served after being ordered.
Review 33:Great location within walking distance of the town. Food from the restaurant wide choice and good quality. Lovely bar area where you can get drinks, and snacks. Room fine with a large bathroom. Beautiful grounds with outside tables and parking
Review 34:Room poorly maintained in terms of decor. 3 loose fittings were promptly repaired. Room rather small and did not match the hotels blurb for a superior room although it had a pleasant view over the garden.
Review 35:Location
Review 36:Room was tiny, cramped with useless furniture and grubby. No chest of drawers so nowhere to put a week's worth of clothes - just a large dressing table with only one usable shallow drawer. Room was excessively warm and no fan supplied. Thick, lumpy duvet and hard pillows. TV in a position where you couldn't see it. Paid for full breakfast but no vegetarian alternative for sausages etc and dinner menu also lacking in vegetarian options. This was supposed to be a birthday treat for my partner and an upgrade from our usual Premier Inn, but it was utterly disappointing and definitely not value for money. For nearly £100 a night I expected much, much better.
Review 37:Great location right in Ross with easy access in and out without having to drive through the town traffic queues; good free on site parking; reception staff and breakfast staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.
Review 38:Unfortunately my stay coincided with a wedding celebration for each of the two nights stay. I was informed of the circumstance, and was myself attending a wedding, although not the Chase, but found that the room was centrally over the main event facility. Loud music and vibration was continuous until midnight and it would have been more appropriate that guests not attending the hotel's wedding events should have been allocated rooms furthest from the noise.
Review 39:The pleasant location and the pleasing ambience of property when loud music was eliminated.
Review 40:pillows very thin and hard. Although there was a good choice of cooked breakfasts, the continental selection was not very extensive.
Review 41:lovely room and meals
Review 42:Couldn't fault our room for the money.
Review 43:Excellent location very close to town with nice rooms overlooking extensive and lovely gardens. Thoroughly enjoyed breakfast.
Review 44:Postcode on your site is incorrect so had to call hotel for correct one when we got stuck in one way system. Room smelt disgustingly of room cleaner and was tiny.
Review 45:We booked in advance asking for our room to be available before 12.00. The hotel confirmed this arrangement. We arrived at 11.45, but the room we were allotted had not yet been cleaned. We were not offered another room, so we had to wait for the allotted room to be prepared. This caused us stress as we had to change our clothes before going to a wedding in Hereford.
Review 46:breakfast
Review 47:Nothing. The facilities and the staff were top notch
Review 48:The area was lovelly. The staff were friendly, helpful and very professional. The hotel and its fittings were great and the breakfast was the best we ever had.
Review 49:Can be a little noisy, you can hear other guests at times. We found the bed very hard, so difficulty sleeping. Very hard to find hotel due to one way streets.
Review 50:Good location, wonderful breakfasts, great evening meal also, classic old fashioned hotel, quirky features.
Review 51:Ensuite could with up-dating.
Review 52:The food was top draw with the evening meal as good as any top restaurant. The surroundings are wonderful and very peaceful. It is the perfect escape from the hectic city.
Review 53:Was disappointed with the room having aid extra for a superior. It was clean enough but very small and cramped. Décor dated and tired...scuffs and marks on wallpaper and skirting boards. Bathroom needed refurbish...mouldy bath seals, tile grout and rusty mirror light. Did tell reception on checkout but didn't seem interested as hadn't booked direct. Offered no discount. Would have been happy to have paid the basic rate but not the 'superior' rate.
Review 54:Lovely building in very good location with lovely gardens.
Review 55:Overall Ross-on-wye has some very good shops & restaraunts however,a number of shop/ex pub frontages were either empty or in need of a lick of paint!
Review 56:The hotel in general & the very relaxed atmosphere.
Review 57:We returned to our room for the second night to find one bed was not made up, towels where we had left them in the morning and the mugs and water glasses not washed.
Review 58:Location was excellent.
Review 59:Packing to go home!
Review 60:The hotel grounds were beautiful. The staff welcomed us cheerfully and continued to be helpful, pleasant, informative. The service was excellent. The hotel was clean and fresh.
Review 61:No lift, wifi poor, breakfast hit + miss, to many young in experienced staff especially in the restaurant, food + drink very pricey,
Review 62:Garden views + location
Review 63:Quite noisy as there was a wedding, However we were warned the day before by email, so not sure what could be done about that.
Review 64:Impressive driveway, entrance hall and staircase. Beautiful grounds.
Review 65:Very slow and chaotic at breakfast when busy. We waited 30 minutes just for the pot of tea and toast - 45 minutes for the cooked breakfast. The price of the drinks in the bar - over £14 for 2 G&T's!
Review 66:The location, the food in the restaurant.
Review 67:Being unsteady on my feet I found the stairs difficult Hand rail difficult to grip Our one evening meal was not up to the standard of the breakfasts
Review 68:Excellent breakfasts Excellent service Spacious car park
Review 69:Nothing to dislike.
Review 70:Lovely room over looking the garden. Fabulous food. Comfy bed. Friendly, helpful staff. Walking distance to the town centre. Lovely gardens. Loads of parking.
Review 71:The standard room was quite small but perfectly adequate for one night.
Review 72:Grand looking hotel with lovely foyer and staircase, Beautiful views over the grounds, yet close to all amenities in the town.
Review 73:Hard pillows. Room right above central heating boiler. Unattractive view. Only towels for one person. Superior room was only very ordinary.
Review 74:The food in the restaurant was absolutely superb and the service was excellent. Two minute walk into Ross.
Review 75:Bedroom ok for 1 night but we would not like staying for a longer time as the room was very small, the remote handset for the TV had not been cleaned for some time as it was dirty and very sticky.
Review 76:Generaly very acceptable, breakfast was exelent
Review 77:Good hotel, excellent location on edge of town, and very pleasant staff. The food in Harry's Bar and Restaurant was some of the best we have had. Also and excellent breakfast.
Review 78:Bedrooms not very big for a superior double room. Bathrooms need upgrading for the price per room being charged. Wifi should be included in the cost.
Review 79:The building and grounds are beautiful. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 80:bathroom needed updating as washbasin and bath need mixer taps toilet base wobbled as not screwed to the floor and had a very poor flush
Review 81:friendly staff, good breakfast and very clean
Review 82:Paper thin walls. Man snoring in the next room kept waking me up.
Review 83:Lovely hotel in an excellent location. Breakfast was perfect. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 84:we never received an email informing us of the function on the saturday night which continued till 1am also one member of the breakfast staff (female)didn't seem to want to be there in the morning!
Review 85:Lovely setting and a good breakfast. comfy bed,
Review 86:dreadful nights sleep due to party lots of noise in corridor (avoid rooms 2,3,4. Staff not attentive - no bar service room 4 - matress dreadful
Review 87:Location and grounds Harrys retaurant cleanliness
Review 88:There did not appear to be anyone in overall charge of the restaurant. No one to greet and show you to your table and service was haphazard because of this. One female staff member was notably surly!
Review 89:Very good position to visit Ross. Easy access to town centre etc but an oasis of calm when you returned and entered the hotel grounds. Very nice bar/lounge/patio area and most staff were very friendly and obliging.
Review 90:Standard room was OK, nothing wrong with it, just nothing to get too excited about.
Review 91:Food, Bar area and restaurant were very good. Staff very helpful and friendly Rooms and Hotel communal areas were clean and well kept
Review 92:Lack of a lift.
Review 93:We felt very comfortable at The Chase Hotel but should have checked before booking whether or not there was a lift. We enjoyed our stay but being on the second floor made us realise that access to upper floors (at our age) requires a lift.
Review 94:Claustrophobic room (11) with no outlook except roof and walls. Noisy fan from kitchen when window open. Dinner was average. No avocado in a dish that was called "avocado & prawn cocktail" which was why I ordered it.
Review 95:The location and helpful staff. Breakfast good and cooked to order.
Review 96:Due to to my wife's present state of health the stairs were a bit of a problem, but in fairness we were warned before arrival and could have gone elsewhere without losing money.
Review 97:The hotel was very nice, staff very pleasent and helpful. Standard of cleanliness very good. Room pleasent and well equipped. Breakfast and meals excellent choice. Adequate parking.
Review 98:Why can't one have vegetables with every main course. We had to order extra (?) at a cost. They were provided but sometimes so small it was a job to find them. Cold plate with scallops which spoilt the dish. No change of menu in 5 days apart from a specials board which we did not see till it was too late. Loo seat was squiffy but was replaced within 1 hour with a small one suitable for a child, replacement did not happen during our stay.Small complaints but important as we only go away once a year for a treat.
Review 99:Food was very good, lovely flavours, adequate proportions mostly well cooked. Beautiful building and good patio area, very quiet and although we did not partake, their afternoon tea was amazing, very popular with visitors.A good place to stay with lovely staff.
Review 100:Nothing
Review 101:The Chase Hotel was excellent in every way, we only stayed one night as we had come down for an evening wedding reception at nearby Parkfields but we were so impressed that if we find ourselves down Ross again you will be our first port of call. Thank you to all the staff
Review 102:Would have been nice to have been asked if we needed a hand with luggage upstairs. Room was very small. Not much turning room. but good and clean. Had the afternoon cream tea, which was not enjoyable at all. I can only describe it as sloppy. Much too much mayonnaise hiding the flavours of the local cheese and other sandwich fillings. Cakes were very similar in style. Was disapppointing
Review 103:loved the entrance and staircase and sitting facilities. Dining area good. Lovely outside terrace to enjoy a drink and something to eat. Enjoyable views. Daily papers available to read.
Review 104:Restaurant served fancy food rather than traditional fare,it would be full every night if steak and kidney pie with mash and a selection of fresh veg were served or trad fish and chips perhaps 3 nights a week
Review 105:home from home
Review 106:we asked for a superieur room, and we did not have the feeling we got it. At the afternoon tea, champagne was served, which was not included in the price, it showed up the next morning. Avoid this hotel.
Review 107:just a one night visit but a wedding was at the venue and we were placed above the reception area which led to a very uncomfortable stay on this occasion with the noise levels disturbing a peaceful stay. knowing we were not with the wedding party i think we could have been situated away from the reception.
Review 108:My sleep was disturbed at around 3 a.m. with a great deal of noise from rooms overhead because of occupants arriving late.
Review 109:The outside and grounds are really beautiful but interior lets it down e.g. bar area and bathroom which were a bit dated.
Review 110:Harrys restaurant is lovely! But considering there was only 6 people dining (including ourselves), service was very slow at both dinner and breakfast. Also, they ran out of the fishcakes that we both ordered.
Review 111:Beautiful quiet location. Top marks for cleanliness & comfort. The young girl at reception was very friendly & helpful.
Review 112:Offered upgrade from hotel - room with a view - did not live up to expectations. Room 6 looks over the car park and the small window had net curtains so further obscured any view. The room was quite dark even during the day. Two steps up to the room and two steps down to the bathroom which we were not told about.
Review 113:Food in the bar/restaurant excellent. With excellent friendly service. Parking good, with convenient walk into town. Good stay for visiting area. Extenal areas (sitting out) very good.
Review 114:No lifts for the tired and disabled
Review 115:Easy to find. Easy to check in. An excellent location for tourist sites. Wonderful welcoming and accommodating staff. Excellent food in restaurant and bar. Beautifully served.
Review 116:The horrible black mould in the bathroom. The windows could not be opened easily due to the external creeping (and creepy) ivy trying to, and succeeding in, growing into our room at the back of the hotel. No atmosphere in the dining room in the evening and this was a Saturday in August.
Review 117:Parking, bar and restaurant food were perfectly fine. The setting and the grounds were very good. Staff were mostly friendly and efficient. Location convenient for the town
Review 118:Wish hotels would not claim to have wifi when effectively it is such a poor signal that it is useless. Being able to use wifi is a major decider for me when choosing a hotel. This is not the first hotel I've stayed at that has claimed to have it but in fact effectively does not. There was a very poor signal all the three days I was there.
Review 119:Lovely room, great service, nice to be able to order breakfast in the room!
Review 120:We made mistake of booking a standard room which had no view except over kitchen roof to other rooms on the quadrangle. The noise from the kitchen ventilation plant until quite late made sleeping impossible with windows open as there was no air conditioning. Whilst it did not effect us there was no lift to upper floors any where in the hotel. Receptionist advised that had we contacted them before booking the inadequacies of the standard rooms would have been revealed to us.
Review 121:The ambiance of the hotel was very pleasant and grounds beautiful. Located near town centre. Staff very helpful and quality of meals very good. Plenty of lounge accommodation and facilities for eating and relaxing outdoors.
Review 122:nothing to dislike!
Review 123:Perfect location, two minutes from town yet at the hotel it felt as if we were in the middle of the country.Food was very good, particularly the breakfasts!!
Review 124:Unfortunately our stay coincided with a group of young people who were talking and laughing loudly on the terrace below our window until three in the morning making sleep impossible.
Review 125:The staff are all very helpful and friendly, the ambiance , facilities and comfort of the hotel are first class and they serve good food well presented.
Review 126:Being in such a rush to we couldn't hang around to explore and enjoy. Will probably come back to do that.
Review 127:Welcome and staff in general were great. Room was not huge, but clean and well decorated. Breakfast was really good.
Review 128:The tiny size of the rooms. The noisiness of the bar downstairs which was open very late and kept our toddler awake. The run down bathrooms, seriously in need of updating. The stains on the bedsheets.
Review 129:The friendliness of the staff The location The breakfast The entrance hall
Review 130:Our only drawback was the room which could have been airconditioned During our stay through the hot weather.
Review 131:The staff were pleasant, and very helpful, the hotel was excellent for cleanliness, the hotel grounds are beautiful, with excellent parking. We would recommend other travellers to stay, this is our fifth time at this hotel.
Review 132:Could not find any fault
Review 133:No problem about late arrival. Nice room with view of gardens and forest. Tea making facilities in room were very welcome on late arrival Good breakfast
Review 134:We did not expect there to be a charge for room service. Also in the information it said you would be charged for taking food and drink to the room if it was not purchased at the hotel. We would not do this anyway but it came across as being unfriendly. Otherwise a beautiful hotel with good customer service in a fantastic location. We were very pleased.
Review 135:Nothing overall
Review 136:Great location lovely gardens and terrace nice staff breakfast great staff attentive Downside asked for a large double bed got a small not that roomy for two 6 ft plus adults !!
Review 137:Lovely location, peaceful, comfortable and beautifully maintained hotel. Staff made us extremely welcome and didn't even moan when we got back to the hotel in the very small hours of the morning. Would defiantly return.
Review 138:Could benefit from leisure fitness room spa etc Knowledge of local leisure weak given cycle holidays on web Links to river activities and general local activities would really make this hotel
Review 139:All the good points and food
Review 140:Wifi very very very very bad. Breakfast was a shame. Thay should not charge a pound for that.
Review 141:Big bed. The rest is an old hotel. Clean. But it is not useful for bussness trip.
Review 142:The restaurant had little atmosphere and the food not as good as we wuold have liked.Buffet breakfast was good but the cooked breakfasts were poor
Review 143:The bedroom was a good size. The Bar was good with local ales.Car parking was excellent in terms of space.Comfort generally in the hotel was good.
