Reviews for Le Village Gaulois

Review 1:This is a very individual hotel, probably unlike any you have stayed in before. Wi-fi and parking are excellent. No bar but you can take drinks from the restaurant to your room. Very quiet as it is in the countryside. Owner really nice and a good cook. Food is good and well priced, as is the wine. Our second visit and we would definitely return.

Review 2:The evenings were cold and it was good to have electric heaters in the room which could be put on by the guest when needed. This made the whole stay more comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and good value.

Review 3:It would have been helpful if someone on site spoke English. However - when in Rome .........

Review 4:Clean, quirky decor, excellent food good value. Lovely dining room. Very traditional with huge log fire. Heating in room very effective. staff did best to make us Welcome

Review 5:We had no complaints. We thought the property and staff were wonderful. The restaurant menu was awesome. A bit of a drive from Verdun but we enjoyed the countryside.

Review 6:No bar. Lack of staff and information

Review 7:Nice spot and interesting buildings but a bit work in progress. Poor elderly jack of all trades gentleman seemed to be the workhorse doing all.

Review 8:We struggled a bit with the language barrier (no English), but that was okay. There was a paint smell in the hall of our floor due to reconstruction.

Review 9:We felt very relaxed on this property. It was a great place to stop and rest on our way to Paris in the car. It was quiet and the food was very good. My son and I played a fun round of mini golf.

Review 10:The terrace was very rustic with uneven paving.

Review 11:The food was excellent. Our bedroom was newly decorated, quirky, large and comfortable with excellent facilities. Our hosts were friendly and we were well looked after.

Review 12:Small bathroom and toilet, a bit rusty. A bit off the places to visit there.

Review 13:Very quiet place. Quite nice rooms. Very good idea for design of facilities (this Asterix village). Great staff, nice breakfast.

Review 14:The hotel staff were welcoming. The hotel is very laid back a little quirky clean and comfortable and has glorious views over the French countryside. The food in the restaurant is outstanding uses local produce and beautifully presented with innovative touches in the menu eaten much worse food in 5* hotels to be honest. We will be going back.

Review 15:Cleanliness of the restaurant terrace is an issue. There were a lot of flies at breakfast.

Review 16:The location is good, close to the WW1 sites. The food was good.

Review 17:The curtains were quite transparent.

Review 18:Friendly staff. Big comfortable room and location pretty good for visiting the ww1 sites. And the food was excellent.

Review 19:The reception staff had messed up the booking and were rude and unhelpful. Rooms are dated. Some better than others.

Review 20:Restaurant is good and the chef very welcoming.

Review 21:Service was a bit slow in evenings for the meal only one wait staff to serve several diners but as we weren't going anywhere it was not a major concern.

Review 22:Good location quirky buildings and the proprietor was very interesting.

Review 23:An exceptionally friendly patron and staff in a fun architectural ensemble. The breakfast was very good, and the patron brought along freshly-washed fruit to add to the table. We eat in the restaurant too and this was very reasonable. Our stay was during a very hot spell and the shade was delicious.

Review 24:This is a very quirky property with lots of character. The owner was very welcoming and the food was good. Check out time is not until midday either so you can relaxing in the morning if you want to. Great shower in the room we had too!

Review 25:It was an extreme heat wave so that can't be helped but a fan would have been very welcomed and would have improved the stay in the attic room.

Review 26:Really neat location, great breakfast and super comfortable beds!

Review 27:A little bit scruffy eg toilet seat broken, sink plug not working. No bar area

Review 28:Arty colourful room, good food, relaxed about keeping our bikes in the corridor

Review 29:We liked everything.

Review 30:It is unique. Designed and built by the owner and worth the detour. Lovely quiet location. Plenty of parking and an excellent restaurant. Breakfast was delicious. The rooms are as far from corporate hotels as you can get. A lovely experience. Wi-if also excellent. We shall return.

Review 31:We chose this Logis Hotel because it looked different to all the chain hotels. It did not disappoint! The food was excellent, the room comfortable and the owner was charming, coming to say hello to everyone in the restaurant. The location is excellent for visiting the Verdun battlefield of the Great War.

Review 32:Everything was fine. Maybe owner could consider building a lounge for pre or after dinner drinks when the weather is unfavourable to sit outside.

Review 33:A quirky, unique and attractive property. Evening meals were truely first class. Owner views hotel as work in progress and should we return next year I'm sure we'll notice improvements or additions.

Review 34:Helpfulness of owner. Ideal country side base for verdun battle sited. Dinner not cheep but when you see the high standard of the food actually very good value for money. My steak with pepper sauce cooked by owners son was outstanding

Review 35:Very interesting place built by owner himself who is very dedicated to his project.

Review 36:was a bit hard to find even with a GPS in the car. They do have small road signs from Verdun to hotel but at night you will miss them.

Review 37:hotel was so-so. The restaurant: The best dinner I had in my 18 days in France. I ate at some 4 star places that didn't compare to this place. If you don't stay at the hotel at least go there for dinner.

Review 38:This was an unusual logis but very nice, our bedroom had a balcony but, for us the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The food in the restaurant was excellent

Review 39:Only I towel missing in bathroom! Couldn't get Wifi.

Review 40:Rural atmosphere, unique buildings and location, very friendly and hard working staff, great food. After two weeks touring round Germany and France, this place was the nicest we had stayed in.

Review 41:The whole environment is dated and needs a good face-lift. The accommodation block was dark and rooms could do with better lighting. The shower in the bath did not have any support socket so showering would have been impossible without a serious risk of flooding the floor! The bed quilts and decor were dated though everywhere was clean.

Review 42:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The restaurant was excellent and the food superb. The environment had acquaint atmosphere and,had the weather been better, the ability to sit under the trees with a nice aperitif would have been wonderful. We would not agree with the derogatory reviews we read about this hotel.

Review 43:The beds were as old as the fairytale. Clean but hard and not very comfortable.

Review 44:The décor is worth the stay. The food was excellent. The service was good. Very French!

Review 45:The staff speak French and German but very little English.

Review 46:This hotel is close to the Verdun battlefield. The restaurant serves some of the best French food I have ever had. The restaurant has a 17th Century look about it, with a wonderful atmosphere.

Review 47:On first stay attic bedroom small and inconvenient. On second stay ground floor room more spacious but bigger double bed would be an improvement.

Review 48:Excellent food. Quiet rural location. Unusual but interesting buildings.

Review 49:Member of staff when we met us was a bit surly Grounds were a bit run down so had to keep a close eye on my 6- and 9-year-old. 6-year-old managed to start the quadbike that she found...

Review 50:Very quiet Great shower Owner was very helpful on our return when I discovered that my appalling French had booked us in for the wrong night... She found us somewhere else to stay.

Review 51:Diverse menu and something special for the more adventurous among us! and also run of the mill for those of us, that are not! Great breakfast again with a diverse range of foods. Friendly staff. Little English is spoken agreed but they do there best to accommodate you ( You would be hard pressed to find a small hotel outside Hastings that spoke French!) No one at reception when we arrived, but you have to look. This is not a Novo hotel but a family run business the daughter at the time of our arrival was busy, setting up for dinner in the restaurant. and was not difficult to find. The reception DID NOT stink as someone else had wrote in there negatives points. ( but in any case do you sleep in the reception?) The Bedrooms were comfortable good size and able to have a good night sleep. ( Bedrooms in my opinion are only huge if you stay at the Hilton and only need to be big if you are planning an orgy).

Review 52:Dirty tables on terrace, which the waitress wiped "clean" with her hand. Expensive dinner. Not very suitable for vegetarians: pigsear, veal cheek, snails, shark(!) etc....

Review 53:The owner is very friendly, and makes you feel welcome. Wifi didn't work they took immediate action to try and solve it. Very good location for exploring Verdun battlefields.

Review 54:No real choice of where to eat dinner--hotel or trekking in to Verdun. But hotel dinner was excellent and breakfast was pleasant. No air conditioning or fans so room was warm and still at night. Bed was a bit basic and not very comfortable.

Review 55:Location for viewing battlefields in and around Verdun, both French and American. Nice rustic atmosphere. Generally, a fine place to be.

Review 56:The restaurant was too expensive

Review 57:The location in rural France yet close to the Verdun WW1 sites was excellent. The courtyard enclosed by trees was lovely. The room was spacious and good. The staff and owner were very friendly. The breakfast was good value

Review 58:The drabness of the main entrance & hallway downstairs. smelly, dark & stuffy. Internet aces was very poor. Room was very small & had no window that we could open at night; only a door onto the street.

Review 59:The setting & the restaurant

Review 60:Weird nude paintings on the wall. TV shelf was head height on the wall, quite dangerous if you were tall. Uneven surface of the pathways and no handrail on steps, would not be suitable for anyone with any slight walking disabilities.

Review 61:Good food pleasant and friendly staff although they don't speak much English.

Review 62:room toilet door didn't fit, had large gaps. no bar as such, and you didn't know if you could get a drink or not

Review 63:food good, dining room excellent

Review 64:Don't bother waiting at the reception desk in the office as no one every came. We had to hunt out someone to check us in. Staff seemed preoccupied with other tasks and the owner was busy remodeling one of his private rooms, so really did not have much interaction with anyone. If you are up to experimenting with new foods this is the place. Yes, the do serve pig ears.

Review 65:It was certainly quaint, beds were comfortable and the sheets were fresh and ironed. It was nice being in the country, except for the barnyard odors that came and went as the air changed directions.

Review 66:Confusion over booking on arrival Moving rooms as given the wrong room the cleanliness The state of the Kitchen we woulnt eat at the hotel not even for breakfast Would not revisit

Review 67:Very quite location

Review 68:The food was very good with generous portions. The staff were welcoming and attentive

Review 69:Handy for exploring the WWI sites around Verdun. The quiche we had at the restaurant was heavenly!

Review 70:Good location for visiting Verdun battlefields. Restaurant on site. Retro room decoration. Hot shower and good food in the restaurant.

Review 71:The food in the restaurant was excellent

Review 72:Lovely village and great evening meal

Review 73:In the middle of nowhere. Nowhere to walk out to for a drink.

Review 74:Room more comfortable than it looked on first viewing. Good shower. The peace and quiet.

Review 75:Room a bit tired. To quirky. Could be cleaner.

Review 76:Great welcome. Great food.

Review 77:No bar,so drinks came from the kitchen. Choice appeared limited.

Review 78:Rural and quaint in a rustic sort of way.

Review 79:Unusual layout. Unusual decor. You might like it.

Review 80:Great bathroom and shower

Review 81:attorno all'hotel tutto disordinato

Review 82:zona tranquilla

Review 83:Located close to the battelfields of WW I. Quiet location.

Review 84:Great little place outside Verdum not far from all places to visit

Review 85:Quirky , individual. Helpful staff, good food

Review 86:it was differnt

Review 87:The place is different as can be seen by the room decoration, and seen better days.

Review 88:Quiet, clean, friendly with a very good restaurant and a pleasant garden.

Review 89:It didn't bother us but wifi connection wasn't great

Review 90:The Patron was lovely.

Review 91:Veri good situation in verdun battlefields. Good breakfast. Nice different place and room. Very kind personnel. Next time more nights!

Review 92:Great place, great character, very friendly owners

Review 93:in 7 weeks traveling it was the best bed we had. And a good meal and courteous staff.

Review 94:Everything.

Review 95:The relaxing atmosphere and great owner. The area is good to see the First World War sites.

Review 96:Quirkiness

Review 97:Smoky corridors, broken shower-head, lack of disabled facilities

Review 98:Good welcome, reasonable cuisine, amusing ambiance

Review 99:Shower slowed up when someone else used their one, but could live with it.

Review 100:Very helpfull

Review 101:Thought breakfast was a little overpriced

Review 102:Friendly host and it was different experience

Review 103:Simple but ok breakfast.

Review 104:The design of the hotel is unique. It's a quiet and peaceful location.

Review 105:to far from verdun

Review 106:the staff were ok and the size of some of the rooms

Review 107:Wifi was useless despite being advertised as a plus.

Review 108:Food was excellent and room was recently refurbished albeit in a really quirky fashion.

Review 109:Location is quiet and peaceful but very hand to Verdun battlefields.

Review 110:Well worth a visit, and the food in the restaurant was fantastic.

Review 111:Everything was perfect. What a crazy place. We all loved it .Food fantastic We will be back.Thankyou

Review 112:Everything

Review 113:It was horrible

Review 114:the whole complex needs updating, very tired and smelt really musty. Lots of flies in the rooms and breakfast room due to being amongst trees.

Review 115:Complex ticketing system to access wifi - which didn't always work. Only one pleasant short walk nearby, so heavily dependent on car.

Review 116:Lovely old hotel/restaurant in a very quiet rural setting. Full of character. Good food. Well situated for touring Verdun battlefields. Superb roads for cyclists. Pleasant staff with some English language.

Review 117:The girl who met us was drunk and chaos ensued. A family hotel that is poorly run . Having been met in the kitchen , we decided we would rather drive 5 miles to nearest town, rather than eat at the restaurant. Do not go !!

Review 118:If the place was looked after it could be quite a nice retreat , but it isnt.

Review 119:Bit expensive. Quirky decor. Wifi everywhere? Didn't work. Whole site a bit disorganised in that reception poorly signposted. Local wine very expensive when it should be cheap. Meals expensive too.

Review 120:Food was superb. Decor unusual. Has potential to be fabulous. Really quaint buildings.
