Reviews for Riverside Hotel

Review 1:told on arrival that food was on until 10pm. got into resturant at 9,30pm to be informed that the kitchen was closed so had to go to local McDs. Remote for TV wasn't working properly, and not a lot of space between the bath and lav for the larger guests althought it was a large bathroom

Review 2:had a warm welcome, was in room #1 on the ground floor. nice and quiet, Sam the breakfast waitress was extremely friendly and helpful

Review 3:Noisy radiator in early hours, overpowering air freshener, stained toilet, poor breakfast menu choices, tired decor

Review 4:Staff friendly and helpful, location great

Review 5:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely atmosphere with excellent food. Lovely bar/restaurant area. Excellent value for money. Basic accommodation but very clean and good value for money.

Review 6:Room was somewhat dated, felt like a prefab. Although clean it is in desperate need of refurb and modernisation. Very 80's faded glamour. The bar/restaurant is good however and the function went well. For £60 it wasn't great value. It felt like an old style travelodge but with a very good breakfast. Think under £40 is the real value.

Review 7:Convenient parking and as I was at a Christmas party on the premises, it was convenient.

Review 8:It was dirty mould in the room and bathroom, stains on the walls paint coming off, damp, Head board had holes in it and the staff was rude by saying there is nothing we can do that is just the way it is.

Review 9:going home

Review 10:As of the last couple of years the advanced booking has been taken from my account prior to the visit. Previously this was just a confirmation of booking requirement. This is not helpful as each person booked would prefer to pay seperatly on departure.

Review 11:Have been using the Riverside Hotel for a number of years when visiting the NEC. Comfort, friendliness of staff, location and value all go to make this an enjoyable event year after year.

Review 12:The room was not what I expected at all. I've been to the restaurant before with family, and I find it quite fancy compared to our usual, so I expected the same from our room. This was reinforced by the website; the rooms looked very clean and spacious and modern. In fact the room only had enough room to walk around the bed and have the dresser and a chair. The bathroom especially was very cramped and not appealing and a bit tatty. In the room there were wires hanging from the tv, dust and webs around the window in the corner, and the light took about 10 minutes to light the room. Also we had a very unsatisfactory meal. There was only us and 2 other tables eating, but due to a Christmas party service was very slow. There was a big gap between our starter and main, and i had to go to the bar after a 15 minute wait for drinks. There were only 2 staff members on shift so I get the delay, but this should have been advised when booking table. When our main did come, it wasn't the tastiest meal. Not worth £42.

Review 13:The bed was so comfy, it was lovely. And although the shower didn't look up to much, it was surprisingly hot and quite powerful. I like the fact the breakfast was free with the room, and it was a deliciously cooked too.

Review 14:The locks for the front door and bedroom were all at wheelchair height (which is really good news for wheelchair users), which made it hard to lock and unlock. The directions to the venue were quite confusing - it took me ages to find it at the end of a long and tiring drive - as someone who does not know the area, at night, and does not have a satnav. e.g. Burton Road sounds like it would be quite a main road which it wasn't. It would help too if they mentioned it is tucked away at the end/middle of a housing estate.

Review 15:The wonderful welcome, friendliness and and help by the staff (especially when I arrived) - they really went out of their way. The "feel" and location of the hotel by the river. Fantastic breakfast.

Review 16:Bedroom was very basic, dated and cramped, bathroom wasn't very clean or comfortable with an inch either side of the toilet sandwiched between a radiator and a bath.

Review 17:Staff were very friendly and the location is great, breakfast was also pretty good.

Review 18:I think they need a new cleaner one that knows how to clean. On bedside table were nail cuttings. Someones earrings on the side. An the headboard disgusting it was marked and peeling. Breakfast terrible waitress couldnt wait to take my plate and i hadnt finished either!!

Review 19:Bar staff was ok friendly enough

Review 20:The position of the hotel, right next to the River Trent, was great - we enjoyed a good walk on its bank, seeing quite a lot of wildlife. The breakfast was lovely, good choice and excellent value. Comfortable beds with crisp clean linen.

Review 21:Windows were wet with condensation and toilet very near to bath and wall not s lot of room

Review 22:Location by the river was beautiful X and breakfast was lovely

Review 23:The staff were very welcoming and the location was great for easily getting to the town. Peaceful surroundings and great for our 21 month old boy to enjoy a ride by the river and feed the ducks. Dinner and breakfast were lovely.

Review 24:Unfortunately radiators in room not working and probably due to an air lock started 'clanging' from 4.30 in the morning for quite a conciderable time awaking us from sleep.

Review 25:Nice friendly feeling from staff, and cleanliness of room.

Review 26:Our bedroom was on the lowest floor and opposite a smoking area downstairs. The window was open when we got there so there was a bit of a smell.

Review 27:Staff were very friendly and accommodating!

Review 28:The bar closed at 11pm on a Saturday night ! As were performing nearby and didn't get wrapped up there until 1030, this wasn't ideal !!!

Review 29:Friendly staff, good location.

Review 30:The headboard was peeling and left bits on the pillows. Window couldn't be opened without lots of ladybirds coming in.

Review 31:Restaurant meals and staff very good. The hotel setting by the river is lovely but it is out of town. Good car park with plenty of spaces.

Review 32:I was able to secure a river side room

Review 33:The prompt service, tranquil settings. Fantastic that you are able to have a late breakfast extremely important to someone who spends a lot of time traveling.

Review 34:It is understood that a refurb of the bedrooms is scheduled for early 2016. This will be most welcome as the rooms are long past their best.

Review 35:Good food. Excellent staff, especially Sam in the restaurant. Made to feel most welcome. Very good value for money.

Review 36:Lay out of the bathroom was poor I'm not a larger lady & caught my back on the toilet roll holder while drying. No where to put case other than the bed to unpack. Breakfast was spoilt by not being very hot coffee bitter. Charged premium prices for cheap brandy.

Review 37:Set in a nice area. Bed comfortable though a small double

Review 38:Nothing springs to mind. As this is my Third visit at location this year, I think that speaks good.

Review 39:Informal relaxing attitude of staff. Rooms clean albeit getting close to needing a repainted!

Review 40:Single room above entrance to accommodation constant banging of door - did point this out to staff

Review 41:In good location easy access to A38 so easy to get to other attractions ie National Arbaretoum lovely views across river relaxing

Review 42:Lighting in rooms very dim didn't really bother us but could annoy some I suppose, shower in my sister in laws room damaged and very difficult to turn off almost caused flooding hotel one night.

Review 43:Wonderfull location, lovely walks, rooms lovely and clean we went to national arbruretum which was literally just down the road excellent day out will definitely go again.

Review 44:Beautiful riverside setting, lovely sitting in the September sun by the river enjoying a cool drink. The staff were really friendly and polite. The breakfast was delicious. One downside is the rooms are rather dated.

Review 45:Chicken in the sandwiches are ice cold, rooms need updating and carpets need cleaning, shower was broken and not enough staff.

Review 46:Food was nice, breakfast was nice with lots of choice. Staff was friendly, beautiful location.

Review 47:Hotel looks very shabby from the outside. The accommodation block looks like it is in need of upgrading with dirty net curtains at the windows and it does not give a good first impression. The location is very pretty with lovely riverside views but the problem we had was that there is a railway line very near to the hotel and the trains run regularly day and night. If you are a light sleeper this could keep you awake. The riverside walk was unfortunately spoilt by inconsiderate dog owners not cleaning up after their pets and who seem to regularly take them for walks there.

Review 48:We had paid for a Superior room and it was the only guest room in the pub part, overlooking the riverside. I was pleased that we had paid the extra money as the room was very spacious and quite luxurious. The bathroom was very large with a separate bath and shower. The bed was comfortable with extra pillows if needed. We were both pleased with the room and glad that we had paid extra. The evening meal was very good value for money, well cooked and hot. The drinks were reasonably priced and the bar staff were friendly and efficient.

Review 49:The Size of the bathroom offered, it was very small. The bedrooms need to be repainted as some of the paint Is flaking off the walls.

Review 50:The convenience as I was working at the NMA. The food in the pub was good and there was a good selection.

Review 51:Hotel room too small. Cobwebs in bathroom. Very outdated. Needs a face lift and revamp

Review 52:The walk at the river. Staff were friendly although we waited at reception to be checked in.

Review 53:The exterior of the front of the hotel was shabby, which gave a poor initial impression. Position of wc in bathroom was planned poorly - would be very tricky for some people (very tight space!)

Review 54:Staff were brilliant. Situation by river was lovely. Food was excellent value for money.

Review 55:TV needs upgrading in room as very difficult old fashioned remote. The wifi didn't work so well in my car park room either . However the rooms overlooking the river which I stayed in initially on first part of my trip were all good.

Review 56:Lovely hotel, well managed, great food, stunning setting. I will be back

Review 57:There were some minor things wrong with the room ,but it was sorted out for us quickly This hotel Definitely needs some TLC especially the bedrooms

Review 58:We liked the friendliness of the staff ,the breakfast is good . and its ideal for visiting our elderly parents who live not far away .

Review 59:Nothing we did not like. Cannot fault a thing.

Review 60:Everything! Location, facilities, menu, comfortable bed, scenery, tranquility, extremely courteous, helpful, pleasant staff - especially the young lady on reception (who also appeared in the dining room at breakfast!). So pleased that we found this amazing hotel. A haven of peace and comfort. Even the damp weather could not ruin our enjoyment of staying there. We will certainly return and recommend this charming hotel to all. Well done everyone for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxing. Thank you all.

Review 61:V small rooms - particularly bathroom. No ventilation in bathroom. Only Greene King beers ... and it's in BURTON!!

Review 62:Friendly staff. Good position with fine views if on river side (not carparks!)

Review 63:Its a real shame that the fabric of the hotel, curtains toilet seat loose etc. lets it down as it has a fantastic riverside location and great staff. A little investment into the building etc. would make a huge difference especially the back of the hotel where you arrive it looks really uninviting.

Review 64:The staff were fantastic especially waitress and the receptionists so helpful and accommodating. The food was also very good

Review 65:Nothing, it was a great stay.

Review 66:Great place, nice walk along the river next to the pub, very comfortable in room and excellent food. Came back later that evening for Dinner. Brilliant stay and couldn't believe what we got for he price we paid

Review 67:Blocked pipe in bathroom so unable to ahower and floor wet through, a bit smelly. Room was very tatty and needed a refurbishment. No curtain on bathroom window, ground floor room onto car park .

Review 68:Good was nice and river view was lovely.

Review 69:Whole place could do with some Uplifting and redecoration. Not sure weather staff were new but there were some issues with meals being sent back.

Review 70:Nice location

Review 71:The shower took a long time to warm up and was difficult to regulate, décor was a bit tired.

Review 72:The staff were very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent and delivered freshly cooked very quickly. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Room service was excellent.

Review 73:The rooms are getting ready for upgrading.

Review 74:The outside area by the river is lovely. The bar area very nice. Staff friendly and very helpful. Breakfast very nice. Value for money.

Review 75:We were there for a mid week break so we did not appreciate the garden being cut with mower and Strimmer at 7am and the next day the beer delivery at 7am also with barrels being thrown around

Review 76:Value, comfort, staff, and surroundings. we would use it again.

Review 77:There wasn't in my view sufficient lighting in the room of a night for me to complete my paperwork. Lastly the space between the toilet and the bath is very tight.

Review 78:Staff were very pleasant and professional in there manor and approach.

Review 79:Our two granddaughters joined us for breakfast WE was charged nearly 14 pounds for there two breakfast.the youngest had two rounds of toast and a box of cereal.she is 5 ,the cost is to high.

Review 80:Simon was great a bonus to your hotel hard working and friendly.

Review 81:The bed was a bit uncomfortable

Review 82:Clean all around. Food excellent. The staff were the friendliest we have met for a long time. In all a very enjoyable stay.

Review 83:Bedrooms maybe need updating, looking a bit worn

Review 84:Staff were brilliant, helpful and friendly. Great breakfast and evening meals. They even had gluten free toast, something I have had problems finding with other places we've stayed.

Review 85:The whole place had a tired feel about it. The bathroom flooded when you used the shower, and when other guests used their taps the noise from the pipes was really loud and woke me with a start.

Review 86:Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Review 87:Rather dated bedroom , staining noted back of shower / bath area.

Review 88:Welcoming excellent ' Lewis 'on reception made us welcome and informed us of everything we required.

Review 89:the original deposit (£135) is still pending on my account, although the final bill (£137.25) has been paid and has cleared myy account. This is a point for concern

Review 90:nice location

Review 91:The place although clean was tired and in need of an upgrading .The shower in room 18 is dangerouse as it could not be adjusted . We had to try to adjust the temperature sheilded by the curtain as it was so hot and could not be adjusted The bathroom was a silly size, far too narrow

Review 92:The location. The breakfast was very good and served promptly . Staff were helpful

Review 93:A wayward shower that flew out of its holder and sprayed me and bathroom in cold water.

Review 94:Near to Burton regatta. Comfortable bed, all basic amenities supplied. Pretty location.

Review 95:Unaware of Dog friendly rooms. Dog barking until the early hours. Stale smell in room, very stained carpet. Low standard of cleanliness.

Review 96:Nothing to like about it.

Review 97:Comfortable bed and facilities, sounded like I could hear a generator faintly in the distance through the night, however i still slept well.

Review 98:Warm welcome, organised, lovely setting by the river, nice views from the garden, relaxing atmosphere.

Review 99:The room was very dated and small. The bathroom was also very dated.

Review 100:The breakfast was good and came quickly. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean.

Review 101:Hotel is in need of a complete overall. Come on, Greene King you could make this place perfect.

Review 102:Location next to the river Trent was perfect. The bed was comfortable albeit a bit small. The staff friendly and helpful.

Review 103:Unfortunately my room had a 'plumbing situation'. It occurred three times and I reported it twice. It was rectified but I - and the manager - think it was 'nature' that cured it, not the intervention of the in-house maintenance man. It is apparent that the plumbing system does need an overhaul and I was assured this is in hand to be done.

Review 104:The availability of THREE Real Ales on pump. The good variety on the Bar Food Menu, The proximity of the bedrooms to the car park

Review 105:Not enough staff. Late noise from bar after we were told it closed at eleven and we must not come out of our room after 11.30pm as it would set of the alarms.

Review 106:View fro the hotel

Review 107:Our only complaint was the space to move in the bathroom but didn't spoil our stay

Review 108:Waking up to the Riverside view was lovely The value for money was excellent and the staff were lovely Breakfast was delicious

Review 109:Last time when I was there, I understand the rooms weren't ready and we was told, that he will let us know when the room is ready. But unfortunately he didn't come round to inform us that the room was ready and really forgotten us. He seen us waiting, but still never come round, thought he would have the courtesy to come and tell us etc. Little disappointed with customer service, as we come to Riverside quite often!

Review 110:I have been there a number of time, it was all good and if rooms are available then they would allow u to check in early - that's great, it avoided us from waiting!

Review 111:Sam who looked after me when I checked in was amazing. She was there all the three days I was there and made sure I was comfortable. Room was clean and comfy. Food was good too with big portions, free wifi throughout was also key for me and riverside had it all.

Review 112:The room was a little tired, the mattress needs changing along with the quilt. Breakfast , there was only one member of staff on and we had to remind her about our tea and coffee And service was very slow, good job we weren't in a hurry!

Review 113:Staff at reception we're helpful and polite. The pub side of the hotel was nice.

Review 114:As stated in my review the wedding party were still partying at three in the morning should have more respect for other guests.

Review 115:Lovely homely hotel very nice and helpful staff great food

Review 116:There was a really raucous wedding crowd who shouted and screamed until the early bours making sleep impossible. They wrecked the toilets and it was quite a scary experience. Also the bathroom was so small my husband could not get to the toilet!, you need a key to get into the bedroom block. However the key is the same one used for your bedroom? This means all rooms have the same lock. Not very security conscious

Review 117:The breakfast and the bed were both good

Review 118:I stayed in Room 12 which has (I have been informed) the pipes for mostof the hotel converging above the ceiling. The constant rattling, clanking and knocking died away later at night but started at 5 am thenext morning. I didn't complain at night because I thought someonewas working on the roof but in the morning the noise was too much for meto sleep through. I complained at reception who told me they were awareof the problem so much sothat another staff member agreed saying 'it is most annoying because when it stops you hold your breath waitingfor it to start again! There was little more than an apology - oh and afree newspaper as recompense. So be warned. No room 12 or surroundingrooms if you wish a decent nights sleep. I should have known as therewas was a black damp patch in the corner of the ceiling.

Review 119:Bar & food. Didn't eat in the bar but the food looked good. Goodselection of beer and the Salt & pepper mixed nuts excellent.

Review 120:Location is a bit out of the way. Having to access the rooms from the Public Areas by leaving and re-entering the building. The price was fine if you get a last minute deal but for longer term, advanced bookings, it would be prohibitive

Review 121:Room service and facilities. Everything worked which is not always the case.

Review 122:Small bathroom - cramped toilet. Not impressed with breakfast & scrambled egg. Breakfast room had dirty radiator & large spider, very disappointing hardly ate anything wished we had stayed at the Travelodge & had breakfast at Morrison's! ,

Review 123:Location to Burton

Review 124:The room was really smelly and had to leave window open- would not have paid the full price for the room but got discount which was the thing which swayed it as only there for one night

Review 125:It was a place to rest my head for the night

Review 126:We decided to stay for dinner. We kept ordering and each time the dish was off the menu Eventually 11 dishes were off!! The waitress said the chef is changing the menu and is running the food down in the fridge!! (What, at the customers expense and inconvenience?) We left in disgust. There were no apologies from anyone. It was a disgrace.

Review 127:Nothing

Review 128:I need to create an account to get the free wifi. That's not he best option for Me.

Review 129:That was a great time in Riverside Hotel. Quality for that price was more that I could imagine. I would love to come back there one day. Great located hotel !

Review 130:Every thing was good as far as we were concerned

Review 131:The old world atmosphere and the setting by the river was just beautiful.Regarding the staff they were all very friendly and helpful .The food was excellent and the choice of breakfast was better then four star hotels we have stayed also the evening meals I would love to return soon

Review 132:the rooms were bland and outdated, plan walls no pictures. old fashioned furniture and the mattress needed replacing. we could here everytime somebody walked along the passageway outside the room, also the noise from the room above.

Review 133:The toilet was almost in the bath tub. It was so narrow between bath and wall, one could hardly dry oneself. Bed was too small and duvet not large enough either.

Review 134:The size of the bathroom was a let down as was imformed all rooms the same. we were not on the small size and struggled so anyone who is on the heavy size should think before booking rooms.

Review 135:The staff were very friendly and the food was exelent value. The location was picturesque and quiet. was good value for money and breakfast was wonderfull as didnt need anything else till evening.

Review 136:WOULD OF LIKED THE BREAKFAST TO BE SERVED EARLIER AS WE MISSED IT DUE TO AN EARLY START. BUT WE WERE GIVEN A PACK UP IT WASNT VERY INSPIRING & DIDNT RELATE TO A BREAKFAST AT ALL

Review 137:LOCATION, FOOD,

Review 138:a lovely room overlooking the river. Staff most helpful. We asked for an extra pillow and milks and Lewis dealt with these immediately.A superb one night stay.

Review 139:I'm being picky but I'm not a smoker and they probably need to have a better area for then as they all seem to go under the shelter by the entrances to hotel and rooms so it was the smell but that would not put me off as the weather was bad so they needed shelter

Review 140:Location excellent for exploring this part of England . Beautiful setting old English pub feel. Staff most excellent Sam in the restaurant recommended food and informative about local area. Breakfast really nice also.

Review 141:Although the room was value for money, our only criticism was the small bathroom with only just room to sit on the toilet as it was between the bath and the wall!

Review 142:Lovely riverside location ideal for all age groups. In a quiet area with no traffic noise.
