Reviews for Hotel Resort Astarea

Review 1:Dated and tired, the food was pretty poor in the hotel at Breakfast and lunch so I'd recommend staying here but eating elsewhere.

Review 2:Location was good, staff were pleasant.

Review 3:food was cold most of the time or sometimes warm , microwaves could have helped if there is a problem for you to keep food hot. the lasagne was not ,it had no tomato sauce in it and the stews the meat was not cooked long enough but sauce was tasty. on the whole plentiful and tasty

Review 4:the staff , clean, comfortable ,and nice pool but a bit cold

Review 5:We had bed and breakfast, and can say that we thought the food was ok, but nothing more. Could be improved, however that said, the hotel is catering for a large number of people.

Review 6:The staff were extremely courteous, couldn't do enough to help. Facilities very good. Location excellent in a quiet location yet very close to Dubrovnik.

Review 7:The restaurant is inadequate in size and organisational capability to cater for the feeding frenzy which takes place for the compulsory buffet breakfast and dinner. Greed and bad manners was the result, with behaviour akin to the fear of famine, because of poor choice and quantity of food availability, together with a lack of set tables only 45 minutes after the start time for dining.. This is definitely no better than a very average 2 star operation which lets down the rest of the hotel's offerings.

Review 8:Location close to the beach restaurants and a significant shopping outlet. Ability to arrange transfers to Airport and Dubrovnik directly from the Hotel car park at a reasonable cost

Review 9:bed wasnt very comfortable very noisy as well. Hotel staff coulda been more friendlier, when we arrived didnt feel welcome, plus the room we got wasnt the room i paid for i actually paid extra for a superior double sea view room, they did change us but had to wait the next day to be changed to a double room but thought it could of been a lot nicer as shown.

Review 10:breakfast was lovely couldnt fault it

Review 11:Staff were not very informative of what facilities there was, eg. Where the pool is, the wifi, how to use the aircon, what to do with parking. We had to keep asking them for these, which they were polite enough and kind just would of liked to be told before asking. room was standard, and the sea view was more a tree view. No fridge.

Review 12:Breakfast had a wide range of foods. Swimming pool was good and close to the sea semi private beach area. Friendly staff.

Review 13:Not much bad but there was one day where we didn't get one of the big towles and shampoo. Also, we were not really using all the facilities but one has to pay for everything extra like the gym, indoor swimming pool, ping-pong table. Maybe some of the activities could be free or for lower cost.,

Review 14:The staff was very nice and friendly. We were staying in the annex, on the top floor with a very nice view. The room was not very big but comfortable, clean and a nice bathroom and balcony - ithe room was perfect for our needs. We had pre-payed for breakfast as well and there was a nice variaty, also for vegetarians. We ate dinner at the hotel one night and we were pleasantly surprised with the selection - fish, different meats and a big selection of salads. There was no safe in the room but there are safes behind the reception desk which one has access to 24/7. All in all you get a lot of value for money - a hotel very close to the beach and helpful staff.

Review 15:Really the room was extremely overpriced for what we got!! It was a small room and completely outdated. The carpet, bedspread and furniture need a major facelift!! They had redone the bathroom which was nice but I thought it only made the 80's style rooms look even worse.

Review 16:For families that need organized activities for their kids, this might be a good place. The staff seem nice and the pool is great. Also wifi is of great quality! The location is nice close to the airport. AND the facilities are handicap friendly (although the rooms themselves are not).

Review 17:We stayed at hotel astarea in Mlini and everything was just perfect. We had a room with partially see view and the image was just stunning. The staff was friendly, the hotel was clean, the breakfast was very good so it was a real good experience. The hotel has a swimming pool, but We didn't use it because the beach was right n front of the hotel. A really great thing was that the hotel has an understanding with a few restaurants nearby and you have a 10% discount if you eat there. We will definitely book this hotel again if we will return to Mlini.

Review 18:A bit surprised to find that the hot and cold drinks machines were not available for use during evening dinner.

Review 19:This is a GREAT hotel, I would rate it 4 star, rather than it's present 3 star. The room we had was large and well furnished and spotlessly clean as were all the bars, restaurants and public areas. The indoor and outdoor pools were also very clean and well kept, towels are provided for the indoor pool, but bring your own for outdoor pool. Lots of sun beds and umbrellas too. The food was good with plenty of choice. We are planning to return next year.

Review 20:Rooms not similar to the photos published on your web site. Very desapoiting after a tiring hot day of travelling. Obviously trying to sell and cheat the costumer

Review 21:Poor quality food. You had to arrive for meals early or the tables have not been reset and it is difficult to order drinks. NOT enough staff to clear away, reset and serve drinks. It's a management issue.

Review 22:The indoor pool. The position of the hotel in its surroundings. Our fabulous room upgrade (twice). Mlini itself.

Review 23:Same food all day and in taste were boring cleanliness of the cutlery need to pay for the drinks during the dinner

Review 24:Pool and the location was close to the sea Kindness of the stuff Town is very nice

Review 25:Small rooms and extra bed was uncomfortable. If you are more then two, with extra bed in the room there is literally no free space in the room. In Mlini almost everything is owned by the hotel: both restaurants, beach bar... so you can't get much of a real "local experience". For example "gemist" is a typical Croatian drink ( mix of sparkling water and wine) and you can't get in any restaurant unless you make it by yourself. The is only one restaurant with "kind of" local food. You can get a great burger or pizza but not too much of fantastic Dalmatian cuisine.

Review 26:Great place for summer vacation. The hotel is very good and with everything you need for a vacation. Hotel stuff is excellent. We had to leave earlier and the hotel charged us only nights we stayed there. Big thanks for that! Food is great, we took dinner as well and it was very very good.

Review 27:Was located in the annex of the hotel which was 200 metres from hotel complex. Poor air con & no fridge in room

Review 28:Clean & very helpful staff. Clean towels every day

Review 29:got two single beds , while ordering the picture showed double bed.

Review 30:very nice place, looks and feels new sweaming pool and beach inside everything well organized

Review 31:Saga! Very quiet resort out of season, meaning limited choice of restaurant and bars in the evening. Entertainment in the bar area a little cheesy.

Review 32:Great hotel with lovely views. Close boat/taxi ride to Dubrovnik. Accommodating staff.

Review 33:isolated position. Not a great deal to do in immediate area.Long steep road upto main road.Unless going out on trips. Car essential.Food ver ordinary!

Review 34:Hotel was very clean &tidy.Reception good.

Review 35:Food at hotel was not great, however, two restaurants a short walk away were both excellent. Owned by hotel and very reasonably priced!

Review 36:Friendly staff Clean hotel Good location on beach Close for airport transfer Sea views Good value for money Excellent sister restaurants only a short walk

Review 37:The hotel chain has taken over the village and as such the original village no longer exists. There are no shops to purchase day to day items, it is a 20 minutes walk to the nearest shops and pharmacy. The restaurant requires remodelling as it is split into two sections each section having different quality of foods and machines. Example, toasters and coffee machines give complety different results, some foods are found in one section but not the other, one section is set out fully for breakfast but not the other etc.

Review 38:Everything was very good at this hotel with the exception of the items listed separately. We had a very enjoyable and peaceful stay and would recommend it to anyone as long as you are reasonably fit as the access road to the bus stop is about 1 in 4.

Review 39:The swimming pool was unclean, but in the next day they took care of it

Review 40:because we were on honeymoon and they gave us a fantastic apartment in the Village Hotel, right near the beach (less than 5 meters above water) with a fantastic panoramic balcony.

Review 41:The machine coffee was vile.

Review 42:The rooms are beautifully refurbished with excellent showers. Peace and quiet despite size. Well kept grounds and fabulous views. Close to pretty harbour.

Review 43:Being pick-pocketed in Cavtat. Watch out at the bus terminus.Other ignorant guests at the restaurant who you think were never fed in their lives, as they reached across the ban-marie while you were placing food on your plate!

Review 44:Very relaxing resort. Activities for kids and adults at the pool side.Hogar Cafe Bar at the harbour only 3 mins from the hotel is a nice placeto relax at the end of the day. Sun loungers were plentyful. Food wasgood in the restaurant. I would advise at least half board even if youdon't stay for dinner every night as Dubrovnik City and Cavtat havebecome tourist traps and prices have soared since our last visit in2008. Example: beer and gin&tonic 13.50 Eur on the harbour inDubrovnik, Same two Drinks in Cavtat and Mlini 6.50 Eur. City Walls area must and the price is 100 kuna per person(50 Kuna per person in 2008.Go figure) Hotel have a shuttle bus, use it! Its very cheap compared toa taxi. Has a service to Dubrovnik and Cavtat. Public bus also on themain road. Antonio the Hotel Shuttle Bus driver was very helpful. Wewere pick- pocketed on the third last night of our stay and he drove usto and from the post office to allow my wife and I collect money viaWestern Union. He even offered us money to tide us over for the rest ofour stay! A very kind gesture and the Hotel should be proud to have himas an employee.Good spot. Visit the place before it becomes as expensiveas Dublin.

Review 45:Everything went wrong: -They didn't provide the room we booked - a double with sea view - instead we could choose between twin in sea view or double with view to the parking and partial sea view. -It was rainning inside the hotel, like drops falling on top of our head when we were taking the food, towels on the floor everywhere, elevators stoped working -It's like an elderly house and the restaurant feels like a cantine with nurses around you -Food is terrible, breakfast and dinner -if you arrive half an hour after the openning time of the cantine, most of the food is gone and they don't replace it conveniently -the table service is poor, we had to pick our own cuttlery at dinner because the lady was busy preparing the tables for breakfast -the rooms are small and old fashioned (carpet) -the water coming from the pipe was brown after the rain fall, and they said it's normal! -wifi stoppped working in the room after the rain The worst experience I ever had in a hotel...

Review 46:Nothing! just that the hotel looks nice from the outside...but just from the outside!

Review 47:Excellent location with very good facilities. Not far from dubrovnik. Indoor outdoor pools and beach access. Scheduled activities gives it a resort feel rather than just an hotel.

Review 48:Reception staff unfriendly and most restaurant workers. The housekeeping lady was friendly I.e spoke to us. No tea and coffee in the room. Breakfast bland and repetitive but adequate. We had their worst storm for years that contaminated the mains water from drinking. The hotel did not warn us of this or supply bottled water, when I asked at reception he said not to drink the water and if we wanted bottled we could buy it at the bar! What would have been the cost to supply each room with a couple of bottles? It could be a very good hotel with a couple of basic things done starting with the staff being more pleasant .

Review 49:The hotel position and general layout including cleanliness.

Review 50:The music at the pool!!! Most of the guests are older couples or families with kids, so I am pretty sure most of them would value the silence. I understand some music every now and then, but not all day long and the cats at the dining room is just not right. Not only its disgusting, but can pose serious health risks

Review 51:The location is breathtaking. Over the adriatic, amazing facilities, pool, bar, bedrooms The stuff is really friendly, especially if you have kids

Review 52:Room floor was not perfectly clean and at our arrival the extra sofa bed - which we didn't need - was open, with sheets seemingly already used by previous customers.

Review 53:We were in one of the villas few steps from the sea, wonderful setting! The self-service restaurant was very good. Staff very kind and helpful.

Review 54:Rooms are tight, breakfast can be better and price/quality in high season is low.

Review 55:The hotel is located 8km from Dubrovnik and is easy accessable by boat from Mlini's small port. Nice swimming pools with animation, rooms with a view and green area!! I recommend any traveller to go there!

Review 56:the hotel itself is full of group hollidays. so you got stack of russian arriving and using the facilities. a bit over priced gym.

Review 57:we got into one of their sea front villa and this was a great experience. we had our litle place away from the package tourist groups that are in the main building

Review 58:Could have done with a fridge in the room to keep water cold. Had to pay for sun beds and umbrellas on hotel beach. Also gym use was not free.

Review 59:Location great. Staff lovely. Good choice of buffet food at dinner to suit all tastes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 60:Think the water provided with the evening meals should not have been so expensive.

Review 61:Very good facilities. Lots of sun shades and parasols. Restaurant and food on offer good. Plenty of choice. Fish dishes every evening as well as meat. Lovely well fitted rooms with beautiful white cotton bedding.

Review 62:Our air conditioning in our room was not as efficient as it should have been but if you complain you could be offered an alternative room.

Review 63:The hotel was perfectly positioned in a quiet picturesque location near Dubrovnik. The hotel pool was just next to the beach and the hotel provided live music each evening. The food was good and the staff were friendly.I would certainly recommend this hotel to our friends. We found it very good value a.d a great base to visit Dubrovnik.

Review 64:"Superior double room with balcony and sea view" was small, double was twins uncomfortably pushed together, sea view if you lean over the balcony! Half board dining not brilliant.

Review 65:Lovely location, good pools.

Review 66:Great place for holidays.

Review 67:Nothing

Review 68:Excellent clean,friendly, helpful hotel

Review 69:This hotel is a perfect location - Dubrovnik in reach with the boat taxi from the hotel and the beach and sea for relaxing

Review 70:food, pool, cleanliness, helpfulness of staff

Review 71:Very bad breakfast

Review 72:Swimming pool and beach

Review 73:No fridge in the room.

Review 74:I liked almost everything.

Review 75:Staff old and Patientless, Breakfast is always the same,The AC in the room has no power.

Review 76:Pool,Clean,Beach

Review 77:beautiful setting

Review 78:Too big, old and impersonal

Review 79:All the people at breakfast

Review 80:The garden and the beach

Review 81:Helpfull staff

Review 82:The aircon in the room didnt work very well

Review 83:Comfy hotel and good location really close to the beach. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Review 84:Location is excellent and so clean and well maintained. Staff very friendly and super efficient especially Dina in beach bar and Vera in pizzeria.

Review 85:Staff did not know the price for a packed lunch. Discount at nearby restaurant not fully honoured.

Review 86:Close to Dubrovnik. Good facilities.

Review 87:Everything

Review 88:Couldn't fault anything. Room 230 had fabulous balcony. Pools were fabulous.

Review 89:cleaner comes around early and didn't always replace toiletries

Review 90:great location and indoor pool

Review 91:nothing

Review 92:luxury

Review 93:No towels available for outdoor pool, only for indoor pool, 30 metres apart.

Review 94:Location,location, location.Staff friendly and efficient.

Review 95:They gave us the great house with the view on the sea for 4 persons instead of the standard room for 2 persons for the same price.

Review 96:NIce hotel, excellent stuff, good wheather, fine food, excellent location... Konavle are great. I will recommend to my friends.

Review 97:Staff Food Rooms

Review 98:Pool area

Review 99:only one PC for guest use in the foyer

Review 100:location - view and being near the airport quiet and considerate cleaning staff

Review 101:FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF.Excellently run dining room.Enjoyed indoor pool.shuttle bus very useful.closeness t ferry.

Review 102:All complete comfort.

Review 103:Nothing bad to report.

Review 104:Given a suite with living room, bathroom and bedroom 10 m from the sea. Low cost boat transfer to Dubrovnic.

Review 105:Very little to do. Expensive prices.

Review 106:Nice pool area.

Review 107:I wanted Dubrovnik but this is on the Reviera which was nice but not in Dubrovnik.

Review 108:charge for gym...shuttle bus times not great

Review 109:Very nice hotel with excellent facilities...

Review 110:Nothing!

Review 111:Great location. Excellent facilities and the staff were very friendly.

Review 112:No hotel entertainment, food boring and repetitive, expensive for drinks.

Review 113:Lovely views, peaceful location, easy to get around by boat or bus.

Review 114:No internet on the room. Bad connectivity at the rececption area.

Review 115:Outdoor and indoor pool area Amazing 25m indoor pool

Review 116:smell of drains from bathroom poor quality of breakfast

Review 117:location, facilities, shuttle bus to Dubrovnik

Review 118:No tea making facilities in the room and the tea and coffee machines not being available after dinner- not everyone likes to pay and to tranfer to another location for a coffee/tea to finish their meal.

Review 119:Air conditioning could be better. No shower gel in bathroom. A fridge is necessary in the room because the temperature went up to 35 degrees when we were there in middle of June.

Review 120:Lovely hotel, beautiful location. Ideally located near superb restaurants & walks.. The local Taxi drivers were extremely nice & helpful, with very good English.

Review 121:Although a variety Buffett food was quite basic and un inspiring and very little seafood which we love on holidays

Review 122:Excellent location wonderful views, peaceful but near enough to Dubrovnik and cavtat, shuttle service, staff and facilities excellent

Review 123:WiFi only in the lobby. The beach was not so good - not very big and full of large rocks. This might get cleared up and made better before the season starts though...

Review 124:Very spacious hotel infrastructure, located right next to the sea. The whole resort has a socialist feel to it, but in a good way - we felt like we were in Yugoslavia in the early 1980s :) The resort has been well maintained and partially renovated throughout the years. Bathrooms in the older rooms are completely renovated, while the resort is clearly investing into new, really nice structures around its territory (for example, the individual houses close to the beach). We stayed here in the off season, so it was quite empty, nevertheless, the staff was really friendly and the breakfast was quite big and good. The resort offers free (although limited) parking in front of the hotel, making it perfect for coming here by car and then exploring the riviera and Dubrovnik, which is less than a 15 min drive away.

Review 125:The indor swiming pool was closed

Review 126:The location of the hotel , so near the nature. The beathrom was renovated , very nace . The material used were firs cuality .

Review 127:Maintenance could be better. It was out of the season peak, but breakfast could be far better than what we have seen. The prices at the bar are for the 5 stars hotel, which doesn't fit in the 3 stars hotel.

Review 128:Very friendly, smiling and helpful staff. Nice pool with warm sea water. Nice scenery, big potential, with few improvements could become much more than 3 stars.

Review 129:The outdoor pool was emptied during our first day there which I don't think was good. I think as long as there are guests staying, all facilities should be available. Not enough vegetarian food available, the so -called "veggie" food nearly allways contained fish

Review 130:The staff although serious ( cultural I suspect) were polite and efficient without fussing. The staff who cleaned the rooms were very good and unobtrusive, if they knew you were in your room, they did not not come anywhere near until the room was vacated

Review 131:Small room,no wi-fi in room, old fashioned small tv in room until last day! No fridge, not good breakfast, no English tea-bags or coffee, hated thump thump music round the pool, far too intrusive

Review 132:Very quiet, new bathroom, comfortable bed, near to the sea & village of Mlini, good shuttle to Dubrovnik, we stayed here on our honeymoon 30years ago & it survived the troubles.

The Fine Print

Please note that the indoor pool will be closed from 22 January until 01 March.
