Reviews for Inn On The Wye
Review 1:Gorgeous hotel in one of the nicest places in the country! Very helpful staff who couldn't do enough for us. Catered for our last minute booking, and then an upgrade when we arrived! Nothing was too much trouble, offered to take our mountain bikes in so they didn't have to be left on our car over night. Lovley roaring fire oh so cosy. Great rooms and breakfast for a really good price. Would recommend to everyone.
Review 2:The decor needs updating. There was some poorly executed painting in the room.
Review 3:The staff were friendly and the service excellent. The food was very good and the view from the window wonderful. For the price it was decent and location wise it gives access to the beautiful countryside and towns of the area.
Review 4:The staff did their best to cater for any requests and all done efficiently and a willingness to please. The full English breakfast was plentiful and superb as was the Christmas dinner served in a dining hall stylishly decorated and full of Christmas cheer. The only down side was the dreadful weather that meant we could not fully appreciate the wonderful local countryside. We will return later in 2016. One request - an outside tap with short hose to wash off muddy dogs.
Review 5:Characterful bar and restaurant. Great evening meal and breakfast. Fantastic views of the River Wye and Goodrich Castle. Close to Forest of Dean and M50.
Review 6:The shower tray was extremely chipped and very tired looking could do with updating
Review 7:The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was of good quality and value All was clean and tidy in the bedrooms
Review 8:There was a function on and although this quietened down at about midnight, the clearing out and rubbish collection after that, immediately under our window was awful. Coffee at breakfast was instant, tepid and undrinkable. The whole hotel could do with some TLC.
Review 9:The general location was great. The breakfast was freshly cooked and plentiful.
Review 10:Would of preferred to stay in the main hotel. Also our car was bumped on the car park and there was no ctv no call back from the manager after leaving our details
Review 11:Food was very good and the staff were fantastic very friendly helpful
Review 12:The access from the chalet to the dining room difficult for anyone with walking difficulties with all the steps and the slope leading to front access...but very happy.
Review 13:The chalet suited my mothers needs
Review 14:Wonderful welcome beautiful setting wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the setting. Excellent value for money lovely cosy welcome log fire food excellent.
Review 15:Very poor breakfast choice. Arrogant mail member of staff . I would not recommend this anyone. Have stayed here 4 times now and it seems to have got progressively worse.
Review 16:Nothing this time.
Review 17:Breakfast varied in content and quality. Tables in dining room very scratched and marked. Menus sticky and needed wiping.
Review 18:Location and room with river view.
Review 19:We stayed in the outside rooms ..interior nice outside could do with a lock of paint so was pleasantly surprised when we got into the room
Review 20:Staff extremely pleasant . Restaurant very nice stayed evening meal n breakfast both delicious
Review 21:No curtain in the bathroom, just netting which made me feel slightly uncomfortable
Review 22:Beautiful setting. Rooms clean. Four poster bed great. Food excellent
Review 23:Some form of fresh fruit or a fruit salad, or even a little sealed pot of fruit which would avoid any wastage would have been welcome with the breakfast as i don't go for cooked and need fruit and fibre. Having said that, the value for money was excellent so i can understand if they are trying to save money. They are so obliging i probably should have asked and it would likely have been available.
Review 24:Like the chalet rooms at the back of hotel, with own front door, warm and cosy. Very good food. good standard of cooked food from the bar menu.
Review 25:If i had to make any negative comment it would be that neighbours doors would bang when used and could be heard from room. But otherwise no complaints
Review 26:Very good value for money, clean, everything you need in room, great breakfast, lovely menu, seperate from main building so nice and private with own door to outside, fab views able to park outside of room. Near to lots of atractions and main routes. Ideal for group bookings and functions. Nice that you can have a nice meal and drink in front of log fire and just wander across the car park to your bed!
Review 27:The room (1) was sparse - only 1 bedside cabinet, no chair and lighting very dim. There had been an effort to "distress" the wooden wardrobe and chest of drawers and it was not a success.
Review 28:The food was excellent. Views were lovely. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 29:arrived to a good welcome and key to room ,only to find room not cleaned and bed not made. we were offered drinks while we waited and were then charged for them.
Review 30:staff were very friendly and restaurant and food excellent.
Review 31:It is not near Goodrich Very basic Mould in the shower Bar staff were a little grumpy Muzak blaring outside pub despite no one sitting there Asked to turn down and still very loud You are staying in glorified chalet Beds were uncomfortable Walls very thin Toilet flush broken
Review 32:Breakfast staff were very friendly
Review 33:Beds were uncomfortable. We would have paid more for a more comfortable bed and better/new pillows.
Review 34:Food was excellent and staff were fantastic. The location was great We had a lovely 2 night stay.
Review 35:Bad sound proofing spoilt the stay, we were above the restaurant , far too much noise came through the floor. We could also hear somebody elses TV loud all night. A rubbish stay, we were just waiting to leave , it spoilt a birthday. If you're in a chalet you may be alright .
Review 36:Good food
Review 37:as I have c.o.p.d. climbing stairs from dining room up to car park and to our chalet, but that is our fault for not checking the suitability for my condition
Review 38:location friendly staff ideal break
Review 39:Menu had changed for the Sunday evening which was disappointing as we had a different menu in our room.
Review 40:Very comfortable and relaxing surroundings..great staff..
Review 41:Hotel definitely needs a revamp which we were told was under way. Downstairs very comfy and better than upstairs. (except downstairs ladies room which is rather grim!) Breakfast was served almost cold which was quickly rectified. Poor chap also had to contend with no supplies being delivered that morning which made his job understandably difficult. No real excuse for shower being grimy and dirty which they made a note of and gave us a discount. Take care with the hot water in the shower - one minute it is cold and the next boiling hot!!!
Review 42:Lovely location. Beds comfy Young man doing breakfasts remained positive and cheerful despite running out of everything as supplies had not arrived. We also had issues with breakfast being cold and the shower being dirty but he sorted these things out for us to a satisfactory conclusion.
Review 43:Booked room in annex to get quietness was upgraded to room in hotel but noise from the nearby road was considerable A bit run down
Review 44:Friendly staff, if not very professional
Review 45:The hotel was great for us, but would not recommend for people with walking difficulties as hotel is on a hillside and has a lot of steps from car park to hotel and down to reception
Review 46:Staff were excellent helpfull and efficient. Breakfast was very good and good value for money.
Review 47:The bed had seen better days. Think it's time they invested in a new mattress as it was very lumpy and even had one long lump down the middle as everyone sleeps on the sides. The door for the shower was hard to open and close, jamming at the bottom.
Review 48:The staff were very friendly. Good location for us as it broke a long journey home up.
Review 49:The room and the place itself is in need of some repairs and maintenance; chipped paintwork, curtains coming off the rails, scuff marks on walls, etc.
Review 50:The staff were efficient, friendly and welcoming without being over the top.
Review 51:It's a pub so can be noisy and not the same housekeeping as 5 star hotels. Staff very efficient but need to remember to engage with visitors '"How was your day?"is important to someone thousands of miles away from home.
Review 52:The location us brilliant. Right on the beautiful Wye river and close to Dean forest. beautiful view from our room.
Review 53:The general decor of the accommodation areas and rooms was a little tired and showed signs of wear and tear, but was clean.
Review 54:Greeting/check-in was great, staff very friendly & helpful. Atmosphere in the Bar area in the evening and breakfast was good.
Review 55:Uncomfortable beds, overcooked dinner meal on first night. A little attention to detail on quality of food cooked if it looks overcooked then don't serve it.
Review 56:A great breakfast Friendly staff and great location
Review 57:I thoroughly enjoyed my third trip to the Inn on the Wye as always. The staff are friendly the food is good and the beds and hotel are clean. Plenty to see and do in the area..Though I think a fishing package could be arranged for some of the fisherman amongst the guests. Lovely place for a wedding and a honeymoon. Looking forward to my next trip.
Review 58:Staff very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was very good as was the restaurant food which was reasonably priced with substantial portions. Room was comfortable and quiet.
Review 59:Not a big problem but shower head in bathroom didn't stay up in the position and kept falling down plus the bar is also reception, they could do with having a separate area for arriving guests.
Review 60:It was very homely and had a good breakfast. Beds were comfy and room was nice.
Review 61:Didn't get the room we booked. In desperate need of decorating. Ladybird nest in the window so can't have been cleaned. Breakfast cold and poor quality.
Review 62:Parking was ok. Staff were friendly.
Review 63:Food overall was good, however on our final evening we opted for Chicken Korma from the chef's menu, not sure what it was but it wasn't chicken Korma - looked like slightly dry bits of grilled chicken 'dropped' into a mildly spicy sauce - it tasted OK, but it wasn't chicken Korma! We had tea and coffee facilities in the room. When we arrived there were ample biscuits and milk, on the second day there were less and on the final day of our stay milk had dwindled and biscuits has disappeared completely/were not replenished. Not big things I know, but a little disappointing.
Review 64:Great staff, friendly and helpful, nice atmosphere, lovely surroundings. Pricing of food and drink was very reasonable, portions on the large side.
Review 65:The breakfast on the second day was over cooked and food missing, but was put right when mentioned
Review 66:Very nice room,cleaned every day.Friendly staff.Great location
Review 67:A couple of downsides but by no-means spoiled our stay - the music from the pub downstairs can be heard all day in the bedroom. Walls are a little thin, so we could clearly hear our neighbour's conversation.
Review 68:The Inn on the Wye is in a beautiful location, close to the river and surrounded by hills and fields. Our room had a four poster bed which was so comfortable, I had a great night's sleep. The staff were attentive and helpful. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, the food was tasty with very generous portions also reasonably priced.
Review 69:The beautiful location on the banks of the Wye, the friendly and capable staff were outstanding, the food was fantastic, the Beer was excellent!. overall probably the best value for money hotel we have stayed in . Ever ! We have returned, and will do so again.
Review 70:Nothing
Review 71:Great location with friendly helpful staff. Within easy reach of Monmouth and Forest of Dean with plenty of parking. Good food and breakfast at a reasonable price. Room was clean with really good shower. Would stay again.
Review 72:We had a beautiful four poster bed. Sadly the room needed a good spring clean . Very dusty .
Review 73:Every member of staff we met were , helpful and friendly. LOVELY staff
Review 74:Carpets threadbare on stairs and landing Wifi only in restaurant and bar Food very good but waited an extraordinary length of time to be prepared
Review 75:Very comfortable bed Excellent food, both evening meal and breakfast
Review 76:Wifi and mobile reception poor bit that due more to the heavily forested area I would think.
Review 77:Lovely inn in great spot. Lovely views. Pub area great and unusual. Food excellent and staff really friendly
Review 78:Breakfast slow, egg so firm that all the white was cooked to an inedible crisp, coffee cool, bacon cold. Shower riser not working so unable to shower.
Review 79:Dinner good, hot and staff friendly and attentive.
Review 80:Nasty smell outside which came in through windows so had to close. No mobile signal and Internet very poor. Road outside bedrooms very busy and noisy.
Review 81:Staff were very young worked very hard and were happy and friendly. Nice atmosphere in lounge area very relaxing.
Review 82:Bed squeaked when you sat on it. There was a lot of mould in the shower. Really needs updating. Carpet is all warn in hallways.
Review 83:The food was good. Staff were good.
Review 84:The shower control switch needed replacing - just a minor jiggle but one which caused me to have to go for help in my nightwear after having stripped and stepped into the shower!
Review 85:The kindness and helpfulness of all the staff with whom I came in contact. Dinner was good - even for a vegan - because they were prepared to be flexible with the menu. Excellent situation for my dog with easy access to good walking.
Review 86:First arrival was not good impression as i waited for over 15 mins to ask at reception for a taxi, no one around. Our room was a chalet at rear, very outdated, beds were shocking and need dumping, bathroom skirting was filthy & shower head would not stay in the wall holder. Not impressed with evening meal, though it was 'steak night' it was still very overpriced for amount of food and quality, ordered rare steak which was well overdone, more medium. We felt it was pub food but with restaurant prices. less food than a Wetherspoons steak night but twice the price!
Review 87:The breakfast was excellent, and plenty of it, though coffee was cold. The new member of staff who served it , Matt, was reallly lovely too. location was great for our kayaking trip as just short walk to river. lovely lounge area in bar to chill out.
Review 88:chalet 11 needed some basic repairs toilet seat was loose, shower door was hard to open and close, cistern was dripping all night, bed was pretty incomfortable, room was well decorated, tea and coffee well provided great tv
Review 89:evening meal was good,breakfast choice wasgood,in a quiet position,easy parking,stayed in chalet
Review 90:Booking.com got our Arrival date wrong even though I had conformationfrom them. Very poor service.
Review 91:We turned up on the Friday and were told that due to booking.com notupdating the booking we were not expected until the following day. Asthe hotel was full the manager not only found us suitableaccommodation in another hotel, paid the difference in room costs forthe two nights, we also had our meal gratis. Though we ended up notstaying at The Inn on Wye they made our visit very enjoyable. Verypoor show from booking .com
Review 92:Very noisy traffic but not all of the time, loud barking dogs at times, and unfortunately the tog value of the duvet was not right for the warm room I.e too hot in bed with the duvet on and not warm enough with it off. That was room 8. We're not complaining but you have asked for our opinion. Also the fire exit door near to our room was not fully closed for the duration of our stay due to door jamming in the frame(needs planing a bit).
Review 93:Good location and a general busy atmosphere and very good and good value food.
Review 94:No bad experiences everything was fine
Review 95:Everything was as advertised. Good evening meal and breakfast. Comfortable bed and clean linen, heating, TV, not a lot more you could ask for. We would stay there again.
Review 96:The room was small and the bathroom dirty, the place is need of a refurb , worn carpets and dated.
Review 97:Good food, clean and comfortable bed, Staff were polite and helpful.
Review 98:Slightly overpriced for small room. I thought £67 was expensive for a Monday night. Would have been fairly priced at £55.
Review 99:Staff excellent. Comfortable room. Food very good value and very good quality.
Review 100:Sadly there was no Wifi available in the room. Could only access the WiFi around the bar area. Would be good to have it in every room.
Review 101:Amazing steak and the hotel staff where very welcoming and helpful.
Review 102:Was wondering what to expect of the chalets from reviews and yes there weren't any frills to the chalets but they were very adequate. No Wi-Fi unless sitting in the bar under the receiver and weak mobile reception everywhere.
Review 103:Very pretty location in the Wye valley but remote. The staff were very nice and the atmosphere very pleasant throughout the day and evening. Easy to drive to places and can walk in the countryside from there but no street lights and some narrow country lanes around which might put people off driving at night. That said it was very pleasant to spend the evening in the lounge bar and the restaurant served a good selection of very nice evening meals.
Review 104:A wedding had taken place the day before our arrival and the bar area was a mess. Short staffed. The bath room in room 6 was very smelly with no opening window.
Review 105:The breakfast was good
Review 106:Steps at the back of the building!!!! So difficult to walk down, felt like too many steps.(Seriously though, not really a big deal:-) )
Review 107:Staff were really friendly and helpful, very cosy and relaxing. Perfect location and central for everything.
Review 108:Location of the chalets on to the car park, steps to the main building difficult to negotiate not suitable for disabled. Bed on the small side
Review 109:Excellent food, any concerns rectified Good staff , but only one on duty in the restaurant
Review 110:Breakfasts were small, snail trails on the carpet, no room on the table all clutter, music in the bar (bass) came through the floor, thump thump to room.
Review 111:Staff, Location
Review 112:Chalet very dated and worn,... Needs a lick of paint,.... New carpet and a mattress. Great shower for a change.
Review 113:Great location, not too far from home,.. Great food and pub.
Review 114:The room was in need of a total refurbishment, although the beds were very comfortable. Not able to get a signal on mobile phone, so fact wifi was so poor was a real problem for a business traveler
Review 115:The food was excellent, as was the service. (Didn't have breakfast, so cannot comment on that) Very friendly and helpful staff Lovely location
Review 116:The blocked drain at the entrance the threadbare carpets and the food. Staff were friendly but not experienced. We selected the rustic bread before our starter but they came together. Nearly £5 for a small white warmed cut up baguet - disgraceful. Didn't get breakfast as 5 customers were locked into the corridor as staff had failed to turn up. We were eventually rescued through the locked door displaying a fire door notice! This made us 20 mins late so had to skip breakfast. In defence of the team the manager reduced our bill by £50. Helpful but I would not stay again or recommend this to anyone. Very disappointed.
Review 117:Nothing really place was in a need for serious TLC.
Review 118:We stayed in chalet as rooms in main building were all booked but our room was very basic and needed updating.
Review 119:Food was excellent. We will definitely return but only if we are able to book a room in main building.
Review 120:Booked 2 rooms which turned out to be cabins. Cabin 10 toilet overflow not connected to cistern and flooded floor. Moved to main building. Cistern had to be topped up out of a jug. Cabin 12 shower contained mould, not working, just banging.
Review 121:The location was very good.
Review 122:the restaurant young men waiters didn't seem to co-ordinate with each other and it wasn't clear who was your waiter and none of them seemed to want to know to help with queries, such as water, my husband had no fork for his main course but his meal had arrived and still no fork.
Review 123:The bar was the opposite of the restaurant staff! they were keen, helpful. The lady that checked us in was lovely and welcoming. I loved the shabby chic relaxing bar area, very comfy and the ways it as laid out is quite private to relax and chat away the late afternoon or evening.
Review 124:Cobwebs around bed. Very hot during the night despite window open Access to plug behind headboard difficult
Review 125:Very friendly, Professional Staff. Lovely restaurant and setting. Spacious and well decorated with character. Homely feel Tasty good quality breakfast! Great views from windows.
Review 126:T. V was a bit erratic. Some instructions might have been useful. Could do with something in shower to put toiletries in. Might want to put a squirt of oil on wardrobe door in number12
Review 127:Staff excellent. Food very good but preferred menu choices before becoming a grill.
Review 128:Very much in need of tlc but didnt need effort. Empty flower pots, no one picking litter up in car park, paintg needed on outside areas, wires hanging in bedrooms, bed no matress cover,
Review 129:Location
Review 130:No overall access ability to bedrooms for disabled seen, Cleanliness is somewhat very poor and should by now be seen to be improving. Snail tracks were noticed on the carpet during breakfast. Our evening meal and breakfast whilst good was somewhat to long a wait.
Review 131:Great location
Review 132:Bathroom was not clean. Furnishings in need of renewal - corridor carpets could be a trip hazard. Make sure you book dinner with your room: it was Monday night but it turned out to be "steak night" so we had to wait till 8.30 to eat because the restaurant was so busy. Then we were brought the wrong meal - given free nibbles while we waited again. Dessert of sorbet and summer fruits was disappointing as the "fruits" were one strawberry cut in half. Fortunately this was also provided free of charge by way of compensation for the poor service. Staff mixed: one unwelcoming, another charming.
Review 133:Did have an issue but the management were very helpful and responsive. Couldnt get the wi fi to work.
Review 134:Excellent breakfast and evening dinner were both good and good value
Review 135:Difficult to find - road signs from A40 required. Corridor door (wrongly labelled 'Fire Door') sealing bedrooms from main part of the building should not be locked overnight. Strong smell of sewage outside front of building.
Review 136:Excellent meals.
Review 137:Hotel room. Dull, dark and depressing. A mismatch of old dark furniture and dark drapes and accessories. We found the contents of a three course meal down the side of the sofa cushions - goodness knows how long that had been there. Bathroom needs a complete revamp too.
Review 138:Excellent restaurant and superb staff. Had some of the best food we have ever had out at this restaurant. Value for money meals. Would visit again, just to eat, if we were in the area.
Review 139:Two of us in two rooms. In chalet room toilet didn't flush properly. In hotel room loud music from bar til midnight. Food was very average. No wifi except in bar.
Review 140:Colour changing shower head in hotel room, (but not in chalet room).
Review 141:Room smelt a bit damp, was quite off putting, but the rooms was clean and tidy, so not sure where the smell was coming from. Room space was minimal. No real area to walk the dog, had to walk round the car park for the early am/late night wees.
Review 142:Good value for money. Very friendly and helpful with the dog.
The Fine Print
Please note that all pets are only permitted in the chalet rooms, for a fee of GBP 10 per stay.
