Reviews for The Kings Head Hotel
Review 1:Liked everything about the hotel and our visit, if I was being picky I might suggest signage to reception was improved but I just may have missed it.
Review 2:Fantastic old building, well situated. Food was amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would strongly recommend
Review 3:Leaving!!
Review 4:Lovely big bed. Stylish bathroom. Great breakfast. I live in Europe coming to the UK every couple of months on business. This place is all those comfortable things that make the UK.
Review 5:A very relaxed atmosphere in bar , lounge and dining rooms. Very good Christmas meal. Staff were very friendly and approachable. Town centre location.
Review 6:Noise from ventilation shaft disturbed sleep from about 06.30 am so not exactly a restful night.
Review 7:Staff excellent, restaurant excellent, position could not be faulted.
Review 8:Although tasty, we had a very long wait for cooked breakfast.
Review 9:The friendiness of the restaurant staff. The quirkiness of the building ie narrow twisting stairs, sloping floor and creaky floorboards! Being able to park the car at the hotel.
Review 10:one way road system difficult to negotiate, but next visit would be easier
Review 11:air con unit in room shops good for a town nice cosy bar short walk to river wye
Review 12:shame about the breakfast on our second morning ,not good at all , bedroom bit dark and dingy view could have been better
Review 13:friendly atmosphere lovely food
Review 14:Minor thing - the only thing we thought is that the bathroom could have had a bigger shower as it was quite a large bathroom
Review 15:Very comfortable bed and very peaceful. Lovely restaurant and breakfast!
Review 16:We printed the map on the Kings Head website in order to find it, The map was rubbish, the one way system was very unhelpful, it took is a llong time to locate where it was
Review 17:We had the superior room, because we like a big bed, and it was. We ate at the restaurant and that was excellent. Interesting history and an illuminated well!
Review 18:the town was a little disappointing, full of charity shops, probably more to do and see but we was only there as a stop over, but that's no reflection on the hotel.
Review 19:All staff really friendly and helpful, room very clean and comfortable. Food in restaurant lovely, no problems with anything, quick check out.
Review 20:Staircase is very steep and spiralling...difficult for my parents to climb.
Review 21:Nice old high street hotel. Right in the centre of Ross....everything is walking distance. Breakfast was very good with gluten free options
Review 22:the feeling that everything was being charged and that they suspect guests of stealing everything - everything had a price tag on it...in the bedroom!!!
Review 23:The size of the room
Review 24:My lady's breakfast was well over done & it was slow coming, very slow. The girls at bearkfast & my lady's breakfast it's self let this place from getting my highest score ever. The girls chatted 'too' much, not enough attention to detail/service by far.
Review 25:it was very good in every way but for the one thing I did'nt like.
Review 26:Really enjoyed our stay (which was for a wedding in the area); bed was very comfy, bathroom and shower were excellent, extras in the room were well thought though and good quality, room was quiet, breakfast was good quality and locally sourced, staff couldn't do enough to help and extremely lovely people!
Review 27:There were rather a lot of stairs up to my room on the top floor.
Review 28:Traditional style hotel, nice room, well fitted, great central location, staff helpful and cheerful.
Review 29:Being in a town centre, quite a lot of noise from neighbouring bars as necessary to have the window open in the room
Review 30:old coaching inn full of character in a central location although on a one way street.
Review 31:Taxi arrived to take me to airport, I had overslept, and the duty person refused to wake me or allow taxi man to wake me, completely unacceptable. will be the last time I stay at a hotel that does not offer 24 hour service.
Review 32:for what was ment to be one of there best rooms the shower was very poorly thought out. large bathroom small cubical it was difficult not to catch the controls when showering
Review 33:great location, friendly staff
Review 34:Nothing to dislike at here at all.
Review 35:Warm friendly efficient staff. Comfortable room with lovely toiletries. Great choice at breakfast & wonderful evening menu.
Review 36:Noise from what sounded like kitchen extraction equipment. car got very dirty in your indoor parking area
Review 37:As we are looking to live in the area, we found your reception staff extremely helpful, also sorted out a misbooking situation for us.
Review 38:Hard Boiled Eggs Walk-in shower flooded the bathroom Only some TV available
Review 39:original uneven winding staircase room and bathroom refurbishment very nice location in town covered garage parking
Review 40:The room was lovely. The only minor complaint was that the cold water tap in the bathroom basin just trickled out very slowly.
Review 41:We both loved the old world charm mixed with modern facilities. Excellent food, nice bar with good selection of beers and wines
Review 42:Only issue was the Wifi, needs to be clearer which to use and password as different to what we were told and what was in the guestbook.
Review 43:No complaints, all lovely and made for a grear relaxing break,
Review 44:The staff at the hotel were excellent, friendly and efficient. I ate in the hotel and the food was delicious. It was right in the centre of town so an excellent position for me.
Review 45:Beware the stairs which are windy but also not quite straight, so if you are unsteady on your feet they may cause some difficulty. For anyone who is steady on their feet, the stairs are a delightful, quirky feature well suited to the age of the hotel.
Review 46:Staff were very welcoming. Food was excellent and lots of variety too.
Review 47:Nothing bad at all! I liked every single thing.
Review 48:Everyone was so friendly; I enjoyed the staff a lot! Everyone cared about my Ross experience! They went out of their way to serve my friend who was late for breakfast due to car problems.
Review 49:Everything was excellent. I cannot fault the staff or the hotel.
Review 50:We really enjoyed our stay at The kings Head as always. The staff could not do enough to make us welcome. We shall return.
Review 51:It was a bit uncomfortable climbing up and down the stairs to our second floor room with my old legs. The bar was a bit pricey.
Review 52:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 53:Minor quibble was that the chef s special and menu was the same both days.
Review 54:Good quality food was well served. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. Good town location.
Review 55:Nothing much but breakfast on the second day was not so good. Poached eggs were hard and service was slow. It was Sunday morning after a huge festival in the town so there were mitigating circumstances.
Review 56:We loved the hotel. It is our second visit. It has bags of character. Its location is perfect. Even so there is good parking. WiFi is free and very good. Food generally is excellent. Very friendly, very relaxed.
Review 57:nothing we didnt like stairs are a bit windy but managed with another route as suggested by reception
Review 58:Hotel situated in prime position for walking round the town or a short stroll down to the riverside .great to have a break from having to drive everywhere
Review 59:Looks dated and carpets definately look worn and in need of a clean. Floors very creaky and we could here upstairs every where they walked. Bathroom dated but shower was good with plenty hot water. Rooms a bit stuffy and very warm at night.
Review 60:Pet friendly and free WiFi is good. Location is great for sight seeing around the town but the car park entrance is very tight, we saw one car hit the entrance post! Nice bar and restaurant, food was ok but not special!
Review 61:Parking was a bit of a challenge.
Review 62:The place was just lovely. Great location except the sat nav got a bit confused but the accommodation was excellent. Magda was fab. Lovely room power shower was amazing, breakfast really good. Attentive, service orientated staff with the right degree of maturity to do the job.
Review 63:Nothing to not like! It was a hotel that delivered on every level.
Review 64:Everything was first class. Food was excellent and presented lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean.
Review 65:The alarm call did not work
Review 66:A generous sized room en suite, a comfortable bed and most important of all curtains and a blackout blind - wonderful. It was also very quiet.
Review 67:There was an unfortunate smell of drains in the room initially and this was fortunately overcome by an open window. Breakfast was disappointing. My wife's poached egg was more a boiled egg and the English Breakfast needed more cooking to the sausage, egg and bacon.
Review 68:All of the staff were pleasant appeared happy in their work and ready to please. The restaurant was comfortable and the food very good. The bar was pleasant and well managed and the drinks served in immaculate glassware.
Review 69:Would not stay again as impossible to sleep before midnight due to music with base turned up high vibrating whole room until then. Not even weekend, stayed on Weds and Thurs nights. Not sure if coming from hotel kitchen or building next door, but was awfull
Review 70:My time to enjoy was restricted by my diary !
Review 71:All the Staff are Excellent making you feel so welcome nothing is too much trouble for them ! I will recommend this hotel to those that seek that special night with great food and a varied selection to tempt all tastes . First Class I will be back !!
Review 72:Cooked breakfast in mornings was alittle small. Took us awhile to find the hotel due to all the one way systems and satnav. The walls are thin as i could hear our neighbours talking late at night and have a bath the following morning, not what i want to hear!
Review 73:only stayed one night but room was nicely furnished, very lovely. Lots of options available for breakfast from cereal to fruit to different cooked breakfasts.
Review 74:Uneven staircase Hotel is a bit tired around the edges .... although for the price I was charged, this may be a harsh comment.
Review 75:Location Free parking Free Wi-Fi Value
Review 76:Parking is limited out the back, so the earlier you check in the better. But i believe the pay and display car park at the rear allows over night parking for a few pounds.
Review 77:Great charm and character to the building, enjoyed spending time in it even on our 3rd visit. Breakfast was lovely and staff are friendly. Cannot fault the location if you want to be central to the shops / pubs.
Review 78:No real complaints at all. The cold tap was hard to turn off but I reported this as we checked out and I'm sure that this will be sorted already. It was a shame that we weren't staying longer.
Review 79:We stayed overnight while visiting friends locally. The room was fabulous with lots of character and the bed was huge and very comfortable. I was slightly concerned that as our room was at the front of the hotel we'd be disturbed by road noise but with the fitted secondary double glazing this was certainly not an issue. The breakfast was excellent and left us well set up for the drive home. The staff were all very friendly and made us very welcome.
Review 80:Cannot think of one negative comment.
Review 81:My husband and I had a wonderful three night break at the Kings Head. The hotel is ideally placed for touring the local area and despite the weather we found plenty to do. The food and accommodation were of a very high standard. The staff were helpful, courteous and friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Review 82:Ploughman's mid-afternoon really poor (Limp lettuce). Wine glasses not polished at dinner table.
Review 83:Dinner excellent. Great décor in the dining room and library. Staff really pleasant and attentive. Great shower pressure. Bed and bathroom linen clean and bright white.
Review 84:The sketch map the hotel provided was useless. For example, the hotel itself wasn't marked; streets were mentioned but not labelled. It was really an example of how not to give directions. I found the hotel easily, but that was because I had discarded the map.
Review 85:The building was an interesting old house and my room on the 2nd floor was very comfortable. The free off-street parking was very welcome. The restaurant was very pleasant.
Review 86:Stairs are a bit difficult as no lift but this is mentioned in hotel specs. No surprises.
Review 87:The staff accommodated my late arrival and were very helpful. breakfasts were top class and kept me going until the evening! Rooms very clean and airy.
Review 88:The dining room is truly awful and the decorations totally out of keeping with this historic building. The quality of lighting is poor in all rooms
Review 89:The food and the pleasant staff, good well kept real ales
Review 90:Hotel is situated in the centre of town and has lots of old features. The bar was very good compared to most hotels we have stayed in. The room was clean with a really powerful shower in the bathroom.
Review 91:Can't think of anything.
Review 92:The hotel is in an excellent central location - easy to find. Stayed in room 11, plenty of space, clean and tidy, all facilities provided were good. All staff very friendly and helpful. Dined in restaurant 2 out of three nights - had to reserve table but well worth it - food excellent. Bar had good friendly atmosphere - popular with locals. Free parking. Our stay at the Kings Head Hotel was an enjoyable experience - would certainly stay again.
Review 93:There really was nothing we could find any fault with or criticise although being an ancient building the staircase can be a bit of a problem
Review 94:We only stayed one night but found the accommodation very comfortable. All the staff from the reception on initial contact when we arrived, waiters/waitresses were all very nice, polite And attentive to us.
Review 95:The unenthusiastic welcome with no offer to carry our bags or show us to our rooms, which were up many flights of windy and steep stairs. Despite the use of good, local ingredients at dinner (and some at breakfast) there was some truly nasty yoghurt which I'm guessing came from Lidl or Aldi.
Review 96:The bathroom and toiletries, the evening meal with named, local ingredients, the view from our bedroom. The owner/manager had cheered up considerably by the time we checked out and was really quite friendly.
Review 97:My room was at the top of the building up an exceptionally steep flight of stairs. Difficult when carrying bags but you are warned of this beforehand I just hadn't expected them to be so steep. The upside was however that there was no noise from the bar. The view from the room was about four feet to the windows of the adjacent property. Bit on the pricey side for the facilities but it is a prime location.
Review 98:Good central location with a decent sized car park. Comfortable bar areas. Very nice staff. Excellent food in the restaurant at very reasonable prices.
Review 99:On our night there was a table who ordered just before us and as a result we had a long wait for our evening meal. The food was worth waiting for, as was the cooked breakfast.
Review 100:The Hotel has a lot of history and is right in the heart of Ross on Wye. Quite a cosy feel and the food was good and well cooked. An enjoyable stay.
Review 101:On a main road so quite noisy in room at front of hotel from people in the street and passing traffic
Review 102:Great meal in the restaurant. Nice location near the river.
Review 103:Instructions how to get there not very clear. Pound palace couldn'tbe seen, went round the one way system twice before we saw the hotel
Review 104:Good location, breakfast very good room very cormfortable and clean
Review 105:Unfortunately there is no air conditioning, although the room had an electric fan. This meant that when we stayed, during the hottest nights of the summer so far, the heat throughout the night was absolutely insufferable even with the fan going and the sash window as open as possible. We were in room 18, my daughter in 14. We all had the same problem.
Review 106:Very friendly staff. Great food. Great hotel apart from the lack of air conditioning.
Review 107:A minor problem really, but the hotel is a well established hotel and floor boards creaked a lot and you could hear people walking about in other rooms.
Review 108:The room was comfortable and well equipped but it was very hot and air conditioning would have been very helpful. Position in centre of town was an asset.
Review 109:Breakfast was a slow service and the rooms were far too hot even with the windows open it was boiling on the top floor. We had 3 rooms booked there for guests of thr wedding and we all said the same.
Review 110:Staff were very friendly and helpful seeing as we were there for a wedding and needed to check in early.
Review 111:As residents we were hoping to have a few more drinks at the bar, although there was two groups of us, amounting to 14 people, the bar person refused to stay open after 11.30pm.
Review 112:Our room at the back was lovely and quiet.
Review 113:We went when temperatures were high and the rooms were very hot even with a fan being provided. The property would benefit greatly from air conditioning.
Review 114:The food was excellent and the staff were helpful without going over the top.
Review 115:Excellent food and the real feel of a proper coaching in, not a box.
Review 116:Staff friendly central location Food excellent
Review 117:Friendly staff - love the building. Great place to stay for the price.
Review 118:The location, the available parking, the friendliness of the staff, the suite, the food in the restaurant
Review 119:staff friendly and helpful room clean and tidy breakfast very good
Review 120:Stairs to top floor ARE steep and windy.
Review 121:Good parking in the centre of town. Excellent wifi
Review 122:Not applicable
Review 123:The breakfast was great and the olde worlde decor was interesting, nothing like a bland chain hotel.
Review 124:stairs although understandable with the building
Review 125:Comfortable and homely
Review 126:restuarant terrible, food over cooked and salty, we actually left some !
Review 127:accommodation very good, nice room, lovely en-suite
Review 128:Nothing
Review 129:Good service, Excellent food
Review 130:Ideal location good food friendly and helpful staff would recommend
Review 131:The staff were lovely, the food excellent and facilities were very comfortable for our 1 night stay.
Review 132:Great location and really friendly staff. The food in the restaurant is well worth trying and the breakfasts are brilliant!
Review 133:The evening meals were not up to standard
Review 134:The staff were very friendly. The hotel was clean
Review 135:-
Review 136:The room was fabulous, full of character, as is the rest of the hotel. The restaurant is excellent.
