Reviews for Grail Court Hotel

Review 1:I stayed 50 years ago in the hotel. It was then named Midland Hotel. Not a lot has changed in 50 years time which is special in a certain way - not at all negative.

Review 2:I genuinely did not expect to sleep in the type of bed that i did. It has to be at least 15 years old. I tossed and turned all night due to the discomfort. Surely management do some benchmarking to keep up with trends.

Review 3:Most of it. Poor reception on arrival. Poor room very long overdue a refit. Uncomfortable & noisy bed. Weak shower. The first place I've stayed in (and I've stayed in a lot) that I would have walked out on had circumstances allowed me to do so.

Review 4:The breakfast. The heater in the room worked.

Review 5:Very friendly and homely.nothing too much trouble for staff.had ensure room wich was very clean and comfortable.would certainly recommend the Grail to others .

Review 6:We couldn't stay due to family circumstances but the room was dreadful so I am thankful we had to leave! I would never stay again. The room looked nothing like the pictures and the facilities were pathetic! Felt like a hostel and was greeted by stares within the bar area, very intimidating! Couldn't believe the price for what you get as I have a stayed in much nicer hotels for less money!

Review 7:Nothing! Never want to return! Couldn't get out quick enough! I will say I didn't eat there so I couldn't comment on the food, however I wouldn't be daring enough to try from the overall state of the hotel.

Review 8:The bed was uncomfortable and creaked a lot, could hear a lot of sounds coming from other rooms, which prevented a lot of sleep.

Review 9:The staff were fantastic, and very accomodating

Review 10:Was not veryhappy to find i had been charged twice on two seperate occasions for one visit - only realised when i checked my account by chance - hotel informed - being looked in to - i would appreciate the money back quickly and the original amount taken was more than i was quoted.

Review 11:accommodation excellent - staff, service and food

Review 12:Despite the hotel being on the junction of 2 busy roads I did not hear any traffic noise (my room was located at the rear of the hotel). Great breakfast including DIY toast and black pudding. Signing in easy. Hotel had character not like a soulless chain.

Review 13:It's an old historical building, in a good location for the town centre. Staff were friendly and helpful for advice. Able to store are bikes securely at night.

Review 14:We were made very welcome and comfortable by all members of the staff. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. As we had had a tiring day we decided to eat in the hotel and the meal was delicious as was breakfast next morning. A very pleasant stay and will use again when in the area.

Review 15:The ceiling paper needed repair, the TV was very small, the bathroom was clean but cramped. The shower was just adequate..

Review 16:The staff were pleasant and helpful, and a good full English breakfast was included in the price.

Review 17:The bed was a bit too hard and the room could have done with a little modernizing but overall it was good

Review 18:The situation plus the bar onsite and the food was good plus the prices were not expensive

Review 19:There were a number of niggling items such as light bulbs being out and T V remote not working that seemed to re-occur more often than one might expect. These were fixed quickly and efficiently but they should have been checked beforehand.

Review 20:The willingness of the staff to accommodate differing needs for guests with various requirements. Food was good and good value

Review 21:The person serving breakfast on Saturday was really unhelpful and wanted to send us away. He'd made himself breakfast and probably didn't want it to get cold. This shouldn't put people off as Sunday was completely opposite and just fantastic.

Review 22:The bathroom had clearly been redone and looked lovely. The staff at breakfast on sunday was amazing, couldn't have been more helpful. I think it's the same person I spoke to before the stay who was just brilliant.

Review 23:The man at reception didn't seem genuine. He wasn't rude but wasn't friendly and was very robotic.

Review 24:The man who did breakfast was great. Very attentive and was keen to help couldn't fault him at all.

Review 25:The room we had was the last one available ::a bit small ::bed was a bit uncomfortable :as I have damaged spine ::wouldn't put me of .it was spotless ::

Review 26:The buildings history ::friendly &help full staff ::would recommend it ::didn't see a ghost ::would have loved to have seen one ::

Review 27:only thing i really disliked about my stay was the fact their was no en-suite the toilets and shower was a walk from the room (don't think i read properly before booking so partly my own fault) but that was the only downfall

Review 28:the location was superb with only a 5 minute walk from the train station, the room wasn't bad either, as my headline says you get what you pay for.. nothing flashy but nothing shameful either

Review 29:Nothing that I didn't like, just an observation. Business Travellers with a need for an early start may appreciate a more flexible approach to breakfast. I e, a Continental Option supplied the night before or a reduced rate for a no breakfast option.

Review 30:The room was quiet and the management went out of their way to help minimise inconvenience when, as mine did, plans have to change. The bathroom facilities were better than expected and issues such as T V mal functioning and light bulb replacement were dealt with instantly. Off site facilities such as shops/restaurants/station are very walking accessible and surprisingly, a car park in a Town Centre hotel. That's a real bonus.

Review 31:Although my room was in good décor and clean it was showing its age. The hot tap didn't run as it should and took about 5 mins to fill the basin

Review 32:The location of this hotel was great for my needs. The staff were friendly and offered advice on taxis if I needed without asking. The breakfast was what I expected, cereal's, full English etc. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk in room.

Review 33:Nothing was too much trouble for Brian and rest of staff. The room was an en suite one and was very comfortable and clean. Free wi-fi throughout the hotel is just another added bonus. The outside may not look inviting but that certainly wasn't the case when you enter.

Review 34:First of all the location i went for a beer festival and its only 10 mins walk away from venue its only 5 mins away from the netional brewery museum the staff were helpfull on giving me directions the room were clean and decent sized and was tended to everyday beds were comfy. The breakfast was absolutely spot on. On checking out i was accidentally over charged and i didnt realise they phoned me up and told me theyde done so and that they have refunded me and apologised which i thought was good of them. If the staff are reading thanks for that folks and i will be staying again next year if your not all booked up that is

Review 35:The Grail Court is well situated close to the Town Centre, with plenty of parking. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. A pleasant hotel and excellent value.

Review 36:Terrible smell of 'drains' in bathroom in room 15. Furniture old and shabby. Noisy family in room opposite shouting and arguing. Felt more like a hostel than a hotel.

Review 37:Good location. Staff friendly, helpful and approachable. Bed comfy and bed linen clean. Free WiFi.

Review 38:The toilet in the room (room 15) smelled really bad. There must be a problem with the drains because the smell grew worse after flushing the toilet or turning on the shower. The guests across the hall were very noisy and there were kids running up and down the hallway and banging doors late into the night. The 'veggie' breakfast was of a poor standard with tinned tomatoes, old mushrooms, overcooked beans and veggie sausages that turned out to be meat. Generally the hotel has a run down feel and I was told by local people that it accommodates homeless people - hence the late night noise of kids.

Review 39:The hotel was centrally located and close to shops and restaurants. The en suite room was a fair size and there was daily room sevice.

Review 40:Very creaky bed, decor dated/ tired furniture, only one bedside table and bedside lights too high and not in line with the bed( approx a metre away).

Review 41:Initial greeting-welcoming, clean linen, taxi calling service, tea and coffee in the room

Review 42:There was nothing negative about the whole stay we had.

Review 43:My daughter and I had a very enjoyable stay the hotel was right in the town centre so we did not have to walk far and we're able to leave car in car park as everything we wanted eas in walking distance.

Review 44:The hot water is an "on demand" system pressure sensitivity issues. So get up to shower early or sleep in and shower after breakfast to maximise your chances of a trouble free shower time.

Review 45:Comfortable clean bed, close to restaurants and amenities.

Review 46:Brian was brilliant he helped out and sorted a few little problems immediately top man....thanks mate see you again soon.....room 21next time whoooooooo

Review 47:Reception and restaurant area lovely. Bedrooms need a bit of thiught, good size room but small wardrobe and only one bedside table. Shame manager overslept Saturday morni g and as we wanted breakfast ar 8 as needed to get home the fact that he turned up at 8.45 and not very apologetic was not good

Review 48:Location perfect. Price reasonable

Review 49:Some rooms have to overlook busy roads , I got one ! Burton wakes up at 6am with heavy lorries in and out of the massive brewery almost next door. It's an observation not a complaint ! Great place to stay regardless.

Review 50:Very easy booking process , staff pleasant , room clean , breakfast excellent

Review 51:beware of the old windows on the street, it makes the room noisy.

Review 52:an excellent welcome, home made food small personnal attentions very close to Molson (50 yards…)

Review 53:situated on cross-road which can be a bit noisy from traffic and night-time pedestrians.

Review 54:Cheap and cheerful. Close to town centre for shops and restaurants. Great free wi-fi and free parking.

Review 55:Very noisy outside the window, particularly when we stayed as it was student night. The bed was quite small

Review 56:The host was very friendly and attentive and knew a lot about the history of the town The breakfast was quick and very tasty It was an ideal location for a wedding we attended

Review 57:very friendly, kind staff, nice and convenient location (only a couple of minutes from burton station, just in front of sainsbury). clean and tidy room, toilet, bar, shower room. i was comfortable and i can recommend everyone chose this accommodation.

Review 58:No mattress protector on beds. That's about it, can't think of anything major at all.

Review 59:Good size room. Fab. en-suite. Breakfast lovely. Staff really helpful and friendly, especially Brian. Looking at booking again later in the year with a group of friends.

Review 60:Location is good for Brewery Centre and local shops Comfortable bed Large room Breakfast was good with plenty of choice Manager very knowledgable about area and very helpful

Review 61:Nothing really. Suited what we needed.

Review 62:Excellent service from Brian and his staff. Couldn't do enough for us. Booked / arranged our taxis, let us use his fridge for storing some proper oatcakes!! Already booked for next year.

Review 63:There was loud music being played from somewhere during night. Was hot so had to have window open and unfortunately listen to it.

Review 64:The breakfast was a good sized portion unlike the small plates you tend to get at most hotels or bnbs. Staff were bright, friendly and chatty genuinely made you feel welcome. Dining/pub area had nice decore.

Review 65:Nothing.

Review 66:I really enjoyed my stay its the best service and most welcome ive been made in any hotel ive stayed in the uk. Only beaten by 5* resorts in new zealand. Service was better than 5* places ive stayed in birmingham.

Review 67:The room was dated and dusty, needed a good clean in all the areas outside the main traffic-way. The bath had not been properly cleaned (old soap stuck to it) and the outside panel was broken (fixed with gaffer tape!). Shower fitting provided but would only be possible to use it sitting in the bath as there was no fitting or shower curtain fitted. The existing photo of the hotel is nothing like it's appearance now!

Review 68:Manager was really friendly, helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was plentiful and good. Room was spacious. Bed was spacious and comfortable. Wi-fi was welcome. Well situated for nearby attractions and town centre facilities.

Review 69:The manager was friendly warm and helpful and so we're the cleaning staff!I was sad not to be able to thank then on departure!

Review 74:Quirky & staff

Review 75:DSS people housed there but too many things to mention

Review 76:Nothing at all - dirty - it was like a mental institution
