Reviews for The Windsor Hotel

Review 1:Only had enough time to stay one night, would have liked to enjoy a longer stay which we will definitely do during the summertime.

Review 2:Very attentive and friendly staff. Clean and well appointed large rooms. Great value for money. Pet friendly.

Review 3:The radiator in the bedroom could not be regulated as it was broken. The room during our three night stay was like staying in a sauna, so uncomfortable unable to sleep or relax in the room. We did report it but it was not fixed.

Review 4:The private car park

Review 5:Room looked out over an enclosed roof area which was unattractive (but not really a big issue).

Review 6:Friendly welcome and service throughout - in reception, bar and restaurant. Pleasant and comfortable bar with fire, TV and pool table. Good range of bar meals available at reasonable price - good value for money.

Review 7:Breakfast maybe slightly over priced.

Review 8:Rooms are very spacious with large en suite. Lovely cosy bar with real effect fire. Drinks reasonably priced. Private car park a bonus.

Review 9:They ignored a request made at the time of booking for a room at the rear of the hotel. Despite not being anywhere near full the room allocated was above reception at the front of the hotel !

Review 10:Staff pleasant enough and reasonably priced.

Review 11:It was Halloween and folk were partying outside from bar opposit till 3 am but not fault of hotel

Review 12:Comfortable spacious room, nice bathroom, friendly very helpful staff

Review 13:toilet didn't flush well and the tea and coffee were not replenished for the second night.

Review 14:We often stay here and the location is fab. Staff are friendly and helpful and rooms are comfy

Review 15:Staff were excellent, accommodation good, parking was no problem and food was excellent. As the hotel also hosted the family get together after the funeral we had travelled to the North East for. We informed and showed the accommodation to several family members who had come from other parts of the country and all said we will keep this hotel in mind for future occasions . When we have occasion to come again we would also be happy to stay at the Windsor.

Review 16:Basic but reasonably comfortable . In need of some upgrading bit tired and grubby in some areas ( window ledges and staircase very dusty) cheap and cheerful for 1 night stay

Review 17:1st night noise from outside. Shirley head of housekeeping move us no problem. Great sleep for rest of stay

Review 18:staff very friendly nothing too much trouble

Review 19:public areas and coridors a bit shabby. Rubbish outside empty beer cans etc in parling beside front door.

Review 20:Friendly staff, ease of check-in, car-parking, bedroom clean, nice breakfast room. Bathroom modern and spotless

Review 21:Price of breakfast, so we ate elsewhere for less and an excellent one it was in North Shields!

Review 22:Convenient for the railway station and a walk along the esplanade for fish and chips in the evening.

Review 23:The young girl at breakfast didn't engage at all The bathroom shower runner round taps holder on bath could do with cleaning

Review 24:Reception staff the older lady on breakfast was very helpful and very good at her job

Review 25:Night porter not very bright. I can't believe there was only 1 key to my room!

Review 26:Exactly as it was advertised. Good breakfast, most of the staff were friendly!

Review 27:The hotel is in serious need of a makeover. The wallpaper is coming off the walls and many of the carpets are threadbare.

Review 28:The staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 29:The bathroom was very dirty. To the extent that a previous occupier of the room had written in the dirt 'hotel inspector' and the dirt and the writing were still there when we used the room! Bedding and rest of room was fine. Just the bathroom that was terrible.

Review 30:Staff were very nice, helpful and friendly

Review 31:The hotel is on one of the busiest streets in Whitley Bay for partying folk! However we don't mind this as we used to be one of the revellers. The radiators went off at 7.00am and made a very loud noise for 15 mins which meant we couldn't get back to sleep. The bedside phone didn't work so my husband had to get out of bed, dressed and go down to reception to see what they could do about it; 3 hours later someone bled the radiators..... The management were unconcerned about this disturbance and would not compensate us for our inconvenience.

Review 32:The location of the hotel is great; it's a stones throw from the lovely promenade and the sea. We had one of the two rooms with a sea view.

Review 33:Hotel is a bit "tired" to say the least, but good value. Room was comfy enough, bed was far too soft for us personally, but OK for 2 nights. Window didn't close properly so at pub / club chucking out time (you are opposite a few big bars so expect some noise) it got interesting.

Review 34:Reception staff obviously had been having a bad day, night porter (Grayam) an absolute star! Literally 1 minute walk from the sea.

Review 35:We were two couples, there on two successive weekends, travelling for sports events. The location of the hotel in Whitley Bay was central and convenient, with off street parking. Rooms were adequate (both ensuite), however overlooking a very noisy nightclub which went on to 2am, after which clubbers entered the room above ours and continued to tramp about and shout drunkenly for another hour. Breakfast was not included in our price (not cheap), and the cost of £8.50 for a 'continental breakfast', which included only sliced bread to make toast, some cereals and water to make instant coffee, was exorbitant: the second weekend we walked 100 yards to Wetherspoons for breakfast instead (full English for £4.50!). In theory one could buy (!!) coffee from the coffee machine, but it was out of order the first weekend, and had still not been fixed by the second - surely something that should have been remedied? The staff were all very pleasant and as helpful as they could be, but are clearly let down by poor management or owners and could do no more. It would be nice to say this was all compensated by Whitley Bay being a lovely place, but it is a run-down shell of a former popular seaside resort, so we won't be returning!

Review 36:Location

Review 37:The pillows&mattress weren't great as my partner&I both have bad backs&we actually felt worse the following morning till we started moving about!!

Review 38:Good value for money&speedy friendly helpful staff with good services. The rooms were a nice size too.

Review 39:The room was very shabby, one of the beds had holes in the bedding and one had a valance and the other one didn't! The bathroom floor had a crack in the tiles and the shower had line scale around the seal. The group of men in the room next door were extremly loud and foul mouthed!

Review 40:The location was good for where we needed to be

Review 41:TV only seemed to have one channel (maybe it was us). The sheets came untucked quickly but I understand why fitted sheets may not work.

Review 42:The staff were very friendly and helpful. A great welcome and all the admin went smoothly. Location is brilliant with parking outside. Took our dog. Pet friendly.

Review 43:Poor wifi

Review 44:Was clean amd comfortable and really good value, have stayed here 3 times now and would not hesitate to stay again, great location and friendly staff

Review 45:Noise from clubs close by.& then the seagulls first thing. lol

Review 46:Very friendly staff, though l left my electric toothbrush in my room, l rang up the day l left the hotel(Sunday )& asked if they could post it back to me,& offered to pay postage, the woman on the phone said we have a standard charge of £10 regardless. I thought that was a bit harsh

Review 47:This Hotel is not 3 star, more like a 1 star or unrated, it is right in the middle of several night clubs it is not for families or mature couples but for young people looking for a cheap hotel near the clubs on hen/stag nights, the hotel room was also very dirty, wall paper ripped off walls up the stairs/corridors, carpet frayed and dirty sheets, we left straight away and they also refused to refund our money.

Review 48:Firstly the staff were all professional friendly and helpful, the room was large and the bathroom was great, the bed was super comfortable, all in all a very good experience and would definitely stay here again, i can't thank them enough

Review 49:no details re breakfast or where the restaurant was

Review 50:Staying without paying!! We did pay after but you should revise your checking in as we could have got away without paying

Review 51:The anolog TV took up most of the desk which made it impossible to work at the dek

Review 52:The staff were friendly and the location was excellent for easy access to the City and to the coast

Review 53:1St room - none of the electric sockets or telephone worked sorequested transfer of room at 11pm. 2Nd room - no phone (no free calls, voicemail or wake-up calls), no trouser press and no free wifi - yetthe booklet says that all 69 well appointed bedrooms are equipped withall of the above.2nd room was a family room, the double was pull down style from wardrobe but was TOO soft!!! Chef likes to cremate her bacon!! Not 3* - wouldn't stay there again.

Review 54:Listed as a disabled- friendly hotel in search. It did have a lift, but had to encounter steps on all floors. Therefore not at all suitable for wheelchair-users.

Review 55:Comfortable beds. Clean and airy room. Good, reasonably priced meals in the lounge bar or restaurant. Good position for sea front & town.

Review 56:The room was not clean, the shower door was not attached properly, the window would not lock, it was too hot and there was an extract fan running loudly nearby all night.

Review 57:The carpet in the room looked as if it hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner for a few days and furnishings had only been dusted on the obvious large expanses. The floor slanted in the bathroom and the bed sagged. The rail in the wardrobe was held up with masking tape. In general, the hotel is tired and needing tlc.

Review 58:The location is good between sea and shops, and is close to bus routes.

Review 59:Hotel on top of Disco - not made clear on Internet. Bed wobbled with slightest movement, very uncomfortable. Tea cups in morning were still dirty from previous customers, so overall a very poor experience:(

Review 60:Large bedroom and gorgeous bathroom.

Review 61:Room was at front of hotel and bars started to play loud music about 11pm, lots of people chatting, laughing and singing so if you want a sleep ask for room at back of hotel

Review 62:Great location for walking.up to shops or along beach front.

Review 63:The heat in the room and the noise if we opened the window as we were above the kitchens extracter fan

Review 64:Room was lovely and clean and had everything we needed just for a couple of days away

Review 65:The area near the hotel was run-down, though the hotel itself was OK.

Review 66:Lovely double room with 4-poster bed, bay window with sea view. However, the twin room had a view onto an air-conditioning system and was nowhere near as nice.

Review 67:Hotel definitely needs some TLC, the bedroom was very drab, and tired looking. Restaurant, bar and reception were good.

Review 68:The area was amazing, perfect location.

Review 69:The hotel along with it's situation suffered from an air of impoverishment and neglect. Carpets on the stairs and corridors were threadbare, torn and scruffy. Staff, though willing enough, were poorly trained - and probably poorly paid - and this reflected on their ability to work in a professional manner. The breakfast chef/cook did not seem to understand the concept of a hard boiled egg ! Our bathroom needed a good clean and general repairs/replacements to the tiling and fittings. Not really value for money.

Review 70:Good sized bedroom and on-suite bathroom.

Review 71:It's room we were put in was not nice. Partition wall, grubby chairs. The room we were put in when we asked to change was much better. The whole hotel is in need of modernisation and or refreshing items. Felt very 'tired' in terms of decor and furniture.

Review 72:The staff were very helpful especially when we wanted to change rooms (from 1 to 20). And the overnight staff covering the bar as well was especially nice.

Review 73:Part of curtain was hanging off the hooks so attention to detail is overlooked which is a shame. Also our supplies were not replenished when the room was cleaned but easily provided by reception when asked

Review 74:Size of our room was very good with all good quality, matching furniture and very large bathroom. Friendly staff and although we have missed the evening meal time due to our late arrival, we had a lovely meal in the bar area

Review 75:the hotel was opposite a night club which was extremely noisy until 4am directly outside our window the room was too hot but couldn't open windows due to very loud night clubers

Review 76:A minor detail, but its time to replace your stair carpets as they are a tad shabby!

Review 77:Great location in Whitley Bay, close to Tyne-mouth beach by short Taxi ride.Free parking for residents. Friendly staff, clean rooms, great bathroom with bath & shower. Comfy bed. We stayed for 2-nights for a friends wedding and were very pleased with our choice.

Review 78:the food and drinks and the friendly atmosphere. our room had all the facilities that we needed.room lovely and bright and clean.also very comfortable bed.

Review 79:No hot water at the bathroom basin, which although reported, was not fixed by the time I left.

Review 80:As mentioned, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Especially at reception.

Review 81:Bed and pillows were uncomfortable and you could hardly see out of window as double glazing had blown

Review 82:staff were very helpful. place was clean and food good

Review 83:Room was really hot and disturbed our sleep. Could also hear other residents talking/moving about in early hours. TV was one of the old fashioned 'fat' ones (although still shows the same programmes) View from window was horrible - just dirty rooftop. Breakfast was too expensive at £8.50 but we knew this when we booked, so went up the road to Wetherspoons.

Review 84:Secure car park at rear is very helpful, as street parking is difficult. Reception staff very polite. Hotel is on main road down to beach with some bars on the way.

Review 85:Met the guy who worked mostly of night graham was his name he was possibly one of the nicest people I have ever met nothing was to much trouble for him

Review 86:High charge for breakfast as it was not included - luckily weatherspoons less than a minute walk away, less than half the price for a better breakfast:)

Review 87:Staff very helpful, rooms were clean. Hotel bar handy place to meet as we were in large group

Review 88:Full of people on Stag and Hen do's. They came in late and very noisyor/drunk collapsing in the corrid. You could hear toilets flushing and taps running in neighbouring rooms.

Review 89:Good location close to town centre and the beach. Good off street parking. Value for money.

Review 90:very noisy on street outside so if youre old like me ask for a rear room. TV didn't work nor did telephone. curtains didn't fit window so bright street lights shone through. Only the TV not working was not good, the noise we accepted and the window we just hung a blanket. A few problems but I would stay again if these were sorted.

Review 91:location, price, look of hotel, staff. Short walk to beach, shops and travel network.

Review 92:Drunk man who had wet his trousers Guest at the hotel. Approached me when my husband had popped out We were having drink in the hotel lounge bar. I did complain and he was asked to leave.

Review 93:The staff were very friendly but over worked. Not enough staff to cover bar/restaurant.

Review 94:Whitley Bay is much different to how I remember it. I last visited 20yrs or so ago and everything seems to have closed down. Such a shame. A distinct lack of bars & restaurants in the hotel area.

Review 95:Breakfast was a good start to the day. Room a good size and beds comfortable. En suite with shower and bath.

Review 96:It isn't the hotels fault but there are clubs opposite which are noisy til 1 or 2 in the morning if you have room on the front of the hotel. Its worth asking for a rear facing or side room.

Review 97:The rooms are decent with good facilities. The staff are helpful and the hotel restaurant is decent

Review 98:All the lamps in the room had 'failed' stickers on them, but we were moved to another, better, room. Unfortunately the room was not cleaned the following day. The hotel is tired and communal areas need improvement.

Review 99:We liked the breakfasts, and the staff were very helpful. We had two problems, both we're sorted out.

Review 100:Room was too warm turned radiator off but was still too warm and cudn't sleep for the noise of the heating system. Bed was not comfy at all. Very outdated and needs a lot of upgrading. Room was clean but not too a very high standard again due to the fact it needs upgraded and refurbished.

Review 101:The proce

Review 102:I would not of booked this hotel if I had known there was so many nightclubs directly opposite. The noise went on until early hours of the no morning. So if you want a relaxing night with sleep don't stay there

Review 103:Fairly rundown and old but still a good value. Very safe and a great location to shopping, restaurants and the Blue Reef aquarium!

Review 104:Staff were helpful and always pleasant. The location was perfect. Close to shopping, the promenade and the aquarium. Great 5 day visit.

Review 105:Room far too hot and unable to regulate temperature. Only 1 bedside lamp for a twin bedded room. Unaware restaurant no open on a Sunday night. We stayed the Sunday night.

Review 106:Noise from nightclub, general location surround by boarded up properties if car park full on street parking not recommended by staff. General run down carpets and decor

Review 107:Nothing

Review 108:carpets are a bit tierd and stained

Review 109:Bed was so comfy and the room was clean and spacious with both a bath and shower. Helpful staff, lovely breakfast cooked to order.

Review 110:Very slow and poor check in. Hotel run by a skeleton staff. Family room booked but given a double. Noise from the street at very early hour. General noise from other guests..no soundproofing. Disappointed. Wrote x2 to hotel before placing a review but no acknowledgement received.

Review 111:Bed comfortable.

Review 112:Not being told that it is positioned next door to a night club

Review 113:The staff moved us to another room but it was tired just like the first one the hotel needs the rooms updated

Review 114:The restaurant staff did not notice when the buffet needed replenishing and did not put in much of an appearance at all once they had taken the breakfast order. Staff training needed here! The mattresses were covered in waterproof mattress covers and then only covered by a sheet. We slept on top of the duvet and covered ourselves with the spare blanket it was so unpleasant.

Review 115:The helpful reception staff and the night porter. On our second night the reception offered (without us asking) a quieter room that was not above the night club.

Review 116:street noise, lack of light bulbs in room. we moved from our 1st room because it was dark, cold and carpet was sticky and stained.

Review 117:Location, staff friendliness, nice room(when we changed from the original one allocated)

Review 118:The carpets were in a poor condition and nasty stains in our bedroom. Bed also rather basic.

Review 119:Quiet location. Friendly helpful staff. Good food. Spacious bedroom. Cleanliness excellent apart from stained tired carpets.

Review 120:There was nothing

Review 121:Convenient to beach, Metro for Newcastle. Great breakfast. Lovely spacious room and bathroom.Did not use the restaurant, but will on next visit- menu looked very inviting.

Review 122:We were told at breakfast we had the hottest room in the hotel. We didn't want to complain because we had booked through booking.com and had a cheaper deal. The bathroom floor wasn't clean and the bed sheets were rough. I think we were given this room because of booking.com. There was a fan but it didn't do much good. The view was a flat roof with rubbish and cigarette butts on it.

Review 123:Not enough pillows. Breakfast was poor quality. Room was grubby and very hot. The room was near a ventilator which was noisy all night.

Review 124:Near to seafront. Good size car park

Review 125:Very loud extractor fan outside the bedroom window. Only one chair in the room so consequently had to sit on the bed which kept running away from the wall because of the castors.

Review 126:Staff very friendly

Review 127:I booked two double rooms I have the print out to prove it! on arrival only one room booked, man on reception was pulling his hair out as he was dealing with another couple who had not been booked in properly when we finally sorted out our rooms I found rubbish in the bathroom bin!! not pleasant. you cant have the windows open at night because of the noise from the clubs and there is no air conditioning so it was a hot noisy night. the car park was full off contractors vans so we had to park on the street. The lounge area was dirty, tables had not been cleared or wiped down the only member off staff to be helpful or friendly was the guy who booked us in he was having to sort someone elses mistakes out. If you value your sleep you will not get it here

Review 128:nice looking hotel! if you are looking for a hotel for a stag do or hen do this is for you, clubs and bars across the street just stagger to bed at 3am!!!

Review 129:A little noise from the surrounding clubs ok for the younger generation

Review 130:Great staff we were upgraded to the four poster room which was clean and spacious

Review 131:This hotel is reasonably priced and central to all amenities. We were in the area visiting our family so unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of the breakfast or other restaurant facilities but everything was excellent in our room.

Review 132:paying extra for breakfast evening meals not good really - very 'pubby' but at more than pub prices

Review 133:all but 1 of the staff were great - extremely friendly and helpful; night porter an absolute STAR

Review 134:air con unit timer (but its hardly ever that hot anyway). No floor length mirror. Couldn't see my shoes with my outfit. (sari)

Review 135:Staff - highly accommodating Bath and shower Location! You can see the SEA from outside You are right opposite a KICKING bar and others are on your doorstep Liked that it was priced well as we only needed a room for sleeping in and a bathroom to get ready in. Good humoured staff (as we left without paying) - Booking.com do not take the payment, you pay the hotel directly.)

Review 136:Placed in the middle of a bar area. Extremely basic room. Expensive for both size of room and where room was situated in hotel Food was very expensive.

Review 137:Staff did what they could to help, very posiitve and friendly
