Reviews for Marlborough Guest Accommodation
Review 1:Absolutely disgusting rooms with no toilet paper 2 single beds joined together, the rude landlady. No full sized towels.
Review 2:Nothing at all. I liked checking out
Review 3:I think the owner needs to be checking on her cleaner much more often as the standard of cleanliness was lacking. I would have preferred to discuss this with the owner personally, rather than leave a negative review, but couldn't locate her on our last morning.
Review 4:The location is perfect; if you have a sea view room you can hear the sea if you leave the window open. The owner was very helpful and upgraded our room because it was a quieter weekend for her. Very welcome and appreciated.
Review 5:Room i was put in (room 14)hadn't been cleaned since the last person.the damp running up the wall and the smell of damp wasnt great either. Breakfast in the morning was mouldy bread.
Review 6:Leaving
Review 7:On arrival, owner was unfriendly. There was no soap or toilet paper in the room. Worst thing - came down at 9.oo a.m. and found no breakfast - only one jar of cornflakes and not even any milk or tea. Impossible to find owner. When she eventually turned up at twenty past nine she was unfriendly and could only offer a cup of tea and toast - no marmalade . When we asked for some she returned with an old jar of rhubarb jam - all she had. We had to find breakfast at the station. In fifty years of staying in hotels this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
Review 8:Nothing
Review 9:Do not stay here!!!!! The owner is hostile, rude and unaccommodating. As1st port of call once we arrived, she was quite abrupt with my party andunhelpful. I had booked 3 rooms a triple room with a double and 2 single(4 people) a double (2 people) and a twin room (2 people). However oncewe arrived, she asked for the name of my party, counted the people I waswith and stated that we only booked for 5 people, which was incorrect. She then began to ramble on about having to pay for the supposed extraperson as the triple room could apparently only hold 3 people; eventhough on the booking.com website it stated a double and 2 singles, equating to 4 people. The owner made the fact we had to pay for an extraperson an issue, as though we had came to her stating we only had acertain amount of money and could not afford to pay the extra. She didnot know any of our standings and we found it very rude for her tobehave as so. Thankfully, there was a male worker there who came to ourassistance and helped us to work out which rooms we would be able toaccommodate. The owner continued to go round in circles that we had topay for an extra person, when this had already been established. Shealso would not let us pay for each room, but all in one go; with themale worker even questioning her as to why that was. Eventually, afterbeing abruptly told to go and look at the rooms by the owner, we went tosee our accommodation for the night. As we were settling into one of thetriple rooms, we had a family knock on our door, stating that we were infact in their room, and to our surprise their bags were in our room. This was quickly sorted with the family moving to another room, butstill an inconvenience. To add to our turbulent time at thisestablishment, whilst getting ready to go out, the lights in our roomwould cut out due to ‘old electrics’, so using a hair-dryer was nearenough a no go, as well as charging our phones.
Review 10:They offer continental breakfast - don't expect it to be cheap savers bread in the packet, no water for kettle, no coffee, no orange juice. Ice-cold hard-boiled eggs that were obviously made the night before and overcooked. Damp patch in bedroom and the use of a dirty shower down the hall as we were told ours not working. Luckily that turned out to be untrue.
Review 11:The view from our room.
Review 12:Well I would not stay here again. Didn't feel like we were wanted to stay in the first place with phone calls to confirm. No customer service. Was charged £10 more due to another bed in the room even though booked a triple room through booking.com. The room was a bit smelly, no towels, no milk, no soap in bathroom, had to ask for more toilet paper. Shower was terrible. Big TV which was good. Bed was good. Breakfast was poor quality luckily not hungry. Definitely not the full English!! Beware!!! For the money I would have expected this. Other guests in breakfast room were also unhappy with this place. It needs a good spruce up and training on putting customers first for the management.
Review 13:Comfy bed and quiet. Great location and view across the sea. The host was helpful once got booked in.
Review 14:The room had no carpet. The hot water took 20 minutes to come through and the water pressure was so bad that the shower was just a trickle of water. The breakfast was toast with the jam still in the jar.
Review 15:Nice restaurants close by.
Review 16:Lack of customer care and safety, no proper breakfast, live wires hanging out of wall, no hot water in sink, large stain on ceiling , needs a good spring clean.
Review 17:The sea view The bed The way out
Review 18:Landlady seemed unsure of how much I had to pay. Basic breakfast selection. Room clean on arrival but wasn't serviced properly during my stay.
Review 19:Located on seafront
Review 20:The buffet breakfast was rather basic.
Review 21:We arrived late in the evening after a frantic search to find a room on Bank Holiday Saturday having been let down by another hotel. The owner was helpful, let us put our bikes in her backyard, and the room was clean, comfortable and quiet.
Review 22:Breakfast was morrisons savers bread wich i had to toast myself& savers cornflakes woman running b&bs got appaling couldnt careless attitude
Review 23:We had the worse experience we have ever had in staying at a hotelbooked via Booking .com. We think you should drop this hotel from yourlistings it is really bad and we are seeking compensation / refundbecause it was so bad.The shower was very small and dangerous due to faulty temperature controls one moment it was scalding hot and the next it was cold. The pillows were hard and the room was dirty. The continental breakfast was a very bad JOKE, no juice, no cheese or cold meats and the cheapest of cheapest bread. No skimmed or even semi-skimmed milk available, no table clothes as shown of the website and no linen napkins. Suerly staff. Standard rooms not as shown on the website no couch or easy chairs in the room. Insufficient car parking for number of rooms and no assistance with finding a suitable of road parking site. It was just an AWFUL BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND and we want our money back!!!
Review 24:Very little - it was a bed in a dirty room.
Review 25:We couldn't find anything we didn't like about this hotel (other then as we booked on the day as last minute we had a room at the back we just loved the fact of a see view but next time we will request a room at the front) and we will be returning for another stay
Review 26:The landlady was very lovely and very helpful, asked us if we needed to know we're anything is or wanted to know what was on. In the morning we met a cleaner and she was also very lovely. The bed was just huge and clean :) Would highly recommend
Review 27:Needs decorating throughout as very dated and in some rooms marks on walls and plaster hanging off. Breakfast was poor as only had choice of two cereals n toast.Could of done with juice provided at breakfast and a bit more choice if it was supposed to be continental.
Review 28:Been upgraded to a better room with a sea view due to an uncomfortable bed in another room.
Review 29:The whole experience was the worst I have had. On arrival unable to access building, front door locked, mobile number pinned on door to contact someone to let you in. Property in urgent need of refurbishment, stained carpets and walls, wallpaper and sockets hanging off, bathrooms cramped/dirty/no towels or toiletries. No pillowcases on pillows, uncomfortable bed. Breakfast, self service cereal and toast at best, poor quality, dirty dining area, no staff around to refresh supplies. Parking offered but only 5 spaces to 21 rooms? Would not recommend this accommodation.
Review 30:Room wasn't cleaned for 4 out of 7 days stay. Bin not emptied. Dangerous use of extension leads. Breakfast room dirty . Bathroom that was shared. Towel left on floor 4 days.
Review 31:Location ideal for beach and short distance from public transport.
Review 32:Everything
Review 33:Top class felt we were in the Ritz small mix up in the room be were given a premier. Room it was mine and my wife's honey moon landlady amazing nothink to big are small to ask some top notch restaurants close by definitely. Be back don't nock it till you have tried this place
Review 34:The staff were very disorganised, the room was not clean, the beds were not particularly comfortable, there was no reading light by the bed, the water temperature was not reliable. All in all the place seemed tired and in desperate need of some renovation.
Review 35:Seaside location
Review 36:On arrival we had to phone a number to get into the property on entering the property was cold and damp when we got our rooms one was sea view the other was at the back standard double which was two single beds pushed together heating did not work room cold and damp needed a good clean and needed updated as old furniture and stained headboards and bedside lamps, the sea view room was a bit cleaner and warmer but again needed a upgrade as ceiling had damp water patch above. Oh and don't expect a full English breakfast as its continental breakfast if you get into the breakfast room as the landlady keeps it locked the three days we spent there never took breakfast as you need to be up at 6 am to get in otherwise it's locked. If your looking for a good English breakfast from 8am till 12noon go to the fire station weatherspoons in town centre 10 mins walk from this hotel it costs £2.99. If your coming to Whitley bay I recommend you to look at other better accommodation as this one lacks if comfort and cleanliness. Star rating outside the hotel had been turned round so it does not show anything.
Review 37:The only thing this hotel has going for it is the view of the sea if you manage to get a sea view room
Review 38:When we arrived we were greeted by a lady that didn't seem veryenthusiastic about our stay. She seemed to have no idea of what room wehad booked or how much we paid. We also had to pay at front desk beforebeen taken to our room, If we had of known what our room was going to belike when we got inside. The pictures of our room on the websitebooking.com were very misleading. On the net there was luxurious beddingand pillows, fridge, lamps, telephone service, well stocked cafetieretray also a full continental breakfast was included in the price. Wearrived the room was not prepped for us. There was none of the things asdescribed above. We also ran out of towels and toilet roll through ourstay and there was not one person available to get any of those things. To make matters worse we were told that breakfast would be servedbetween 7:30 and 9:00 am. To our dismay the lounge/ dinette waslocked and no management available to check us out. So we left our keyson the front desk and ate elsewhere. I was highly annoyed at this as itwas so misleading. There were a few people staying there that night andsaid they had slept in better hostels. I will most certainly not berecommending this hotel to anyone.
Review 39:The only thing we liked about the stay was the sea view out ofthe window.
Review 40:Arrived to be asked 'how much have you to pay? 'How many in yourparty?' The woman didn't know. She then took my money beforetelling me there was a problem with the water pressure and not to expecta decent shower.
Review 41:The location was good and the free parking on the front was mostwelcome.
Review 42:Great beachfront location but dingy rooms. Comfortable beds and quiet room made up for dirty carpet and no hot water for shower. Housekeeping did immediately clean floor, which we appreciated.
Review 43:It was hard to find anything clean in the rooms. We had two - number 2 and number 8 - and there were hairs in the beds, brown stains on the walls which were suppose to be chocolate stains as explained to us later. One of the showers didnt work and the other had black stuff coming out of it the first few seconds you turn it on. Most supplies didn't work: refrigerator, lamps. The breakfast is... Well, better eat somewhere else. There was mold on the toast. Not to mention the overall smell in the hotel. The location is fine though. Next to the beach and to a lot of clubs and diners. Would not recommend going here, especially seeing the price you have to pay for this 'hotel'.
Review 44:The neighbourhood had a lot nice cafés and restaurants to flee to.
Review 45:Wifi didn't work shower was very poor but think that was due to work been done outside
Review 46:Location was really good , every thing in the room that you would need for your stay
Review 47:Limited parking, but you can park around the corner for free after 5.30pm and before 9am and all day Sunday.
Review 48:Nice friendly staff, very helpful. Room was very big and had a fridge and coffee making facilities it also had a microwave and a 32" tv.
Review 49:Visitors should note that this is not a full-service hotel, eg. reception is not staffed 24 hours, and you will serve yourself to a limited continental breakfast. If that meets your expectations, this is a great place to stay.
Review 50:I chose this hotel as it is on the seafront, and was not disappointed - I had a sea view and the promenade was 20 meters across the coast road. Friendly staff. Car parking immediately outside the hotel. Good value.
Review 51:Cleanliness left a lot to be desired . carpets a disgrace and dust allover . no tea coffee left after 1st day and loo rolls were"RATIONED" . no towels provided
Review 52:Staff very friendly and quiet location .staff provided info about placesto visit and eat helpful
Review 53:Very poor service. I stayed with my wife and kids. The washroom light was not working was told that they couldn't do anything about it. Washroom was not to the standard no hot water for shower even the loo paper was not in our room upon our arrival. I had to go all the way down stairs to ask for it. Had to wait at least 10 mins at the reception for someone to show up. No phones in the room. I do not recommend this hotel. Very bad experience.
Review 54:I like the location. Waterfront view
Review 55:No one available to book us in.Room was not particularly clean, bed linen stained, complimentary tea and coffee, had no milk and a half used coffee sachet.Shower was not working.Very disappointing stay, other residents also unhappy. I would advise Booking.com to remove from their website.
Review 56:Seafront location.
Review 57:Dated, needs decorating. Front door bell didn't work so had to telephone. Limited breakfast (full english but limited continental/cereals etc(
Review 58:Location and parking. Large room with seaview.
Review 59:It was the worst experience of my life, everything was dirty and the bedding was dirty and full of hairs. Damp all over the ceiling. Would not recommend to anyone ever.
Review 60:It would have been nice to have been offered a full English breakfast instead of just cereals and poached eggs.
Review 61:Easy-going, no fuss. Good location opposite the promenade & and within 10 minutes walk of the centre of Whitley Bay.
Review 62:We did not seem to be expected even although our booking had been confirmed so the room we were given was quite cold and the breakfast facilities were poor.
Review 63:Do not stay at this hotel. Stayed for 1 night had told when we got there we had been but into the bridal sweet as a free upgrade. The room was dirty there was no carpets at all just old plastic wooden boards with a few nails in, the breakfast was a disgrace it was cold and child portion. The bridal room was covered in mould the double bed was 2 singles stuck together! As we went down to breakfast we were called liars from the head maid because we said we were having full English instead of continental, which by the way was a box of Morrisons own cornflakes. Worst hotel we stayed in it was pathetic. I rang up to complain and let the owner know and she hurled abuse down the phone. Do not waste your time at this pathetic excuse of a hotel!!!
Review 64:The "Standard Double Room with Ensuite" was more like a single room, the bathroom was a joke and water flowed out of the shower unit all over the floor, couldnt fit my hands in the sink ! On arrival we were greeted with objection to the fact that full english should not have been promised because we hadnt paid enough ? Heating in room was pathetic....we checked out the next morning and lost the money we paid for 3 nights. Absolute rip off !!
Review 65:Breakfast was nice.
Review 66:Electrical extension cord & plugs beside kettle on table beside fridge and microwave. Storage heaters not working in room, despite timer. Aternative electric heating provided, mould and mildew in shower room. No hot water in bathroom in am, for shower. No towel rails in bathroom. Carpet dirty in places.Someone elses rubbish in room bin. Dissapointing breakfast in am- fermented orange squash served as orange juice in tiny glasses. Replaced with fresh orange squash when requested, no juice. No butter only flora margarine, cheap marmalade in general jar for everyone to delve into, very salty bacon, self serve hot foods with ungenerous provision. Did not feel like value for money at all.
Review 67:The view, easy access to promenade. The two members of staff were friendly and pleasant, (if not embarassed by the breakfast provision and our report in the morning)
Review 68:The landlady was in a real muddle upon arrival saying that a double booking had accrued and I wouldn't be able to have my book ensuite room, after a few moments of say yes/no gave me a room some else had booked. Odd. The triton shower in my room didn't work. It was either BOILING hot or freezing cold with around 10-15 seconds of water between the two when it was possible to rinse soap off. A simple fix of a new shower would have made my marking of this otherwise acceptable hotel higher.
Review 69:The bed was very comfy and I did have a good nights sleep. The breakfast was self serve which isn't a problem, just that it could have been kept a bit warmer.
Review 70:On Sat 11th Oct 2014 and Sun 12th oct 2014, Staff reception on arrival was poor. Staff at breakfast was good. TLC required throughout estabishment.
Review 71:View from premier double room
Review 72:No shampoo or soap no spoon in room for tea no telephone in rooms if needed not take to room on arrival just directed overall would not go bk
Review 73:Bed comfortable
Review 74:Not organised when arrived, reception area shoddy. breakfast was child portion. Not good quality at all. Hotel was bit run down.
Review 75:the breakfast staff was lovely.
Review 76:Staff, rooms, everything. Must try a darn site harder.
Review 77:Firstly our booking hadn't gone through. The lady that finallygreeted us could barely raise a smile. The hotel is shabby and dirty. Wechecked out 10 minutes after checking in. If I owned this hotel I wouldbe ashamed of myself!
Review 78:No soap in the bathroom. Shower was just adequate. I didn't like having to make my own tea and toast at breakfast. The decor is tired and a little shabby.
Review 79:Very comfortable bed, and the room was a comfortable temperature. The room was a good size for two of us.The staff, especially at breakfast, were friendly. I was able to park in front of the hotel.
Review 80:Unhelpful owner/receptionist. Breakfast finishes too early - 9.15am! Bed sheet and mattress cover didn't fit properly - spent most of night directly on mattress. Fridge in room was very noisy, kept us awake most of night. Kettle desperately needs replacing - wouldn't have it in use at home let alone in a hotel! Price was increased because of GRN which we were doing but room definitely not worth the £90 we paid, no where near it!!!
Review 81:Location good, on the whole room was clean, breakfast staff very friendly and helpful
Review 82:The cold breakfast and unhelpfulness of the waitress. The tv that didn't work properly' The DVD left in the tv
Review 83:The location The effort made by the manageress (Pru.) to rectify the many problems
Review 84:Everything from arrival to leaving was a complete nightmare. The landlady didn't know we had booked on line. The car parking wasn't available due to concreting repairs, so had to park 1/2 a mile away. Asked to pay before we saw the room. We were put in a room on the top floor! The landlady did not seem interested in our stay at all and we later learned that a member of staff had been placed in a vacant first floor sea view room whilst we had to climb three flights of stairs, to a room with no view other than the back yards. One of the beds near the window was very draughty according to my sister. There was no soap in the room, no advice offered re how to get hot water, the bins weren't emptied on the second day and our wet towels were beautifully redesigned on the bed....but very wet! Breakfast was mediocre the bacon awful and no fruit available. The landlady didn't seem to care about any comforts and I would not visit again unless a lot changed!!! Def not worth the money. This landlady definitely needs to read her reviews.
Review 85:The location. A member of staff Michelle. Other than that ...not much!
Review 86:No welcome from staff or explanation of where breakfast room was and time of breakfast. Only interested in getting money off your credit card!!
Review 87:Size of bedroom
Review 88:The original room was so small that it should have been a single.Everything was chaotic there was no order to the way the hotel wasrun. The manageress was very moody and reacted unreasonably toeverything you said.
Review 89:The rest of the staff were very pleasant and were obviously used to hermannerisms and unpredictable actions. The hotel was on the seafront andwas very quiet allowing you a good nights sleep. Whitley Bay and thesurrounding area.
Review 90:One of the single rooms was not very clean, and both single rooms would benefit from updating No soap or shampoo in the single rooms Limited continental breakfast-we could not find fruit other than an apple and no extras like yoghurts, which we find in the best guest houses. The front rooms do not keep out the light very well so we needed 'sleep masks'
Review 91:The double room with 'sea view' has a delightful, panoramic sea view. Breakfast staff were very friendly Good cooked breakfast The price for the double room is very reasonable
Review 92:the attitude of the owner when a complaint was made. the bedroom door wouldn't lock the owner didn't get it fixed, a chair had to be placed at the back of the door during the night. the en-suite shower/toilet was too small and was dirty. breakfast was poor in both quantity and quality, there was little choice. the owner was not to be seen unless at the beginning of our stay during registration and payment.
Review 93:location was central to everything
Review 94:No carpet in room. Shower head loose so struggled to get a decent spray angle. Disorganised at breakfast. Couldn't cope with guests queueing. Kitchen sent out poor amounts that would only Serve 2-3 at a time. Would be quicker and easier for the staff to take individual orders and serve at the table as it was awkward to get round seated guests when going to and from the serving area. Hadn't catered for my Gluten Free diet.
Review 95:Spacious room, large TV, fridge, microwave, sink and decent table in room. Good connection to WiFi. Big bay window overlooking the sea.
Review 96:Where shall I start. I booked a Premier En Suite Double Room. Premier that's a laugh. En Suite well just about. No carpet on the floor. Just sheets of ply that's been varnished. Too much furniture in small room. Bed poked in the corner. Thought the room was a bit musty when I arrived but woke up in the early hours to the room stinking of dirty drains. Spent second half of the night on the sofa as the smell was not as bad by the window. Spoke to the owner / manager in the morning and she agreed it was not pleasant. Apparently caused by a party of women on the upper floors veeting their legs ad washing it down he drain!!!! Well heard it all now. Breakfast was average. I have stayed in better hotels / B&B's and paid £25 per night than this dump and was fleeced £80 for. Which I might add they ask for payment on arrival.... Maybe the fact the ETB accreditation board out side was coverd up should be a clue to how bad this place is..
Review 97:Breakfast - the times were ridiculous 8.00- 8.45 on a weekend! The breakfast was poor. Had been cooked well in advance. Eggs were like rubber and all had been sitting on a hotplate far too long. Public areas were tired and quite shabby.
Review 98:location, room was clean.
Review 99:Attitude of landlady or proprieter - unfriendly welcome. Could not pay by card. No parking available. No soap in bathroom. Mould in shower. No hair dryer. No tv remote. No room for luggage in bedroom. No assistance with luggage. No fruit or jams and marmalades at breakfast. Cold coffee. And it goes on.....
Review 100:Floor was just nailed on floor boards. Beds hard and pillows cheap and flimsy. The shower trickled a tiny bit of water and the window curtains were cheap and flimsy which let in too much light. It's a shame because this is a lovely building in a great location. With some upgrading this hotel could really be turned around. If the hotel was upgraded then I would consider staying here again because of the great location.
Review 101:The location. Beautiful sea view. If the owners would spend some money on this hotel it could be beautiful.
Review 102:On reception the hotel staff was very pleasant and friendly. The room was very clean, neutral colours with big bay window overlooking the seafront. The location ideal nice sea front , Italian restaurant Daventi next door which was beautiful. Then a short taxi to the wedding venue that we were going to.
Review 103:Milk in the room was curdled No signal for the tv no channels No Wifi connection had to leave the room to connect
Review 104:Sea front location, ample breakfast fairly quiet
Review 105:Rude owner. Done nothing to sort out a booking mistake on her part, resulting in me having to try and find accomodation for my parents. Her answer was to squeeze them into our family room which already had 5 people staying in it, so that would mean 7 people in a 3 bed room. Breakfast wasn't great either and the place could do with a good clean!
Review 106:The view from our bedroom window.
Review 107:As above
Review 108:The accommodation is not as described on web site No microwave in room No heating in room No breakfast
Review 109:I did not experience anything negative.
Review 110:It is a very cosy friendly place to stay, we enjoyed our short stay.
Review 111:Good value for money. Can't really complain about anything.
Review 112:Shower didn't work No carpet Shower only dripped No curtains and was promised they would be fixed and never was
Review 113:The bed was very comfortable
Review 114:couldnt fault it
Review 115:location, friendly staff, excellent facities, very competative rates, cosy and very clean
Review 116:unfriendly owner and staff dirty reception poor breakfast facilities
Review 117:comfy bed
Review 118:Made to feel welcome as soon as entering, very friendly staff.
Review 119:Cheap and cheerful hotel on seafront.clean
Review 120:Not ready for our arrival, Lady on reception seemed put out on our arrival!
Review 121:Price!
Review 122:Location
Review 123:Very basic, awful wood floor. Not laminate just bare wood board!Bathroom smelt damp and we had no towels.
Review 124:Nothing bar view
Review 125:Landlady didn't seem to be expecting us. Breakfast was very basic indeed.
Review 126:Location, good shower in room 1
Review 127:Food.it says full English breakfast but it isn't..;(
Review 128:Fulfilled our requirements
Review 129:A bit like a female faulty towers
Review 130:Nice location
Review 131:The owner sent us to another guest house so I cannot comment on the Marlborough.
