Reviews for Piraeus Theoxenia Hotel

Review 1:as we stayed more than once , we think that no maintenance / conservation is going on or planned . This has a result of a neglected look and atmosphere.

Review 2:friendly staff

Review 3:Breakfast is extremely poor and the restaurant service is even worst.

Review 4:Staff at the reception were very friendly and helpful. Good location if you are travelling for business.

Review 5:Very dated and needs new tvs, redecoration and the food is average to say the least! The staff are not very attentive. Its trying to be something its not. The rooms feel dark and depressing.

Review 6:Nothing...

Review 7:This is never a 5 star hotel, awkward smell in the room, a room where all white items where nicotine yellow of all smoking (booked an none smoking room) worn down furniture's, "slow" high speed internet.

Review 8:Good breakfast, easy access location in Piraeus

Review 9:Water pressure was negligable. We called maintenance who were unable to help. We were unable to have showers. Reception staff were quite unconcerned to listen to our complaint

Review 10:Convenient location for boarding a cruise ship

Review 11:Don't know why this place is a five star hotel, more like a three star. Apart from the lobby the rooms really do need a make over.

Review 12:the hotel is only a short walk to ferries for the islands.

Review 13:Hotel has to be somewhat overhauled and renovated.Bruised doors...Overall, a good experience if you have to sleep in Piraeus for an early leaving boat.

Review 14:Very close yo ferry port, bus.Staff helpful.Gave us sandwiches for early ferry.Good looking hotel.Book early to get rates.

Review 15:The breakfast is american style. It could be more european or greek style.

Review 16:The bed was really excellent. It was quite and the room was as big as promised. I even stayed another night there on short notice:-)

Review 17:Nil

Review 18:Area and hotel personnel excellent. Breakfast was very good and of value for money. We were given a free coffee and a biscuit on arrival after a 32 hour flight.

Review 19:Unfortunately we thought the hotel was closer to the Marina, but not a big deal

Review 20:The staff are very helpful, polite and made us feel welcome. The facilities are really nice and the suites are a great size.

Review 21:This was a last minute booking as we missed our boat to the islands due to our flight being delayed. The hotel was very nice, the room was quiet, clean and spacious, WiFi worked well. Walking distance to transport.

Review 22:Plumbing is not bad but bath and shower taps a bit wobbly!

Review 23:Location, size of bedroom and comfortable bed. Also if you leave too early for breakfast, they give you sandwiches to take on the boat.

Review 24:No bad experiences.

Review 25:Friendliness of the staff, the free wi-fi, the abundant breakfast, the proximity to both the cruise ship port, and the metro to Athens.

Review 26:no tea coffee facilities in room. Noise from lifts clanking. A bit too expensive.

Review 27:Staff were excellent friendly and helpful. Room was large and bed comfortable. Particularly liked having bed linen and towels changed whenever we wanted.

Review 28:Mouldy grill on the room's air conditioning outlet. Soap holder in the shower sloped so nothing would stay in it. The shower was so small I had to literally squeeze into it as the two sliding doors didn't open far enough. Car parking cost a bit steep at 12 Euros.

Review 29:We needed to be close to the port, but not right by it as it can be a bit noisy. This hotel was far enough away that it took 7 - 8 minutes to get to the dock, whilst still being in nicer area on the city. Breakfast was excellent. I was allowed to keep the car in the garage an extra night, whilst I stayed in Athens overnight the following day. Staff were very helpful.

Review 30:the breakfast was too much poor .

Review 31:the location is the best if you want to be near the port .5 minutes walk from port and from the bus station to airport .bus number x96 .aprox 1,10 minutes distance to the airport, the train station is 7 minutes walk so this is the best location if you want to visit Athens and islands in the same trip.

Review 32:Perhaps a little overpriced for what it offers.

Review 33:Convenient location close to Pirea port, comfortable and clean rooms, staff was nice. My friend and I had an early boat to catch and there were some breakfast snacks prepared for early risers who miss the normal breakfast. That was thoughtful. That was thoughtful

Review 34:Great spot, close to the Ferries, but away from the grittiness of the port area. Staff more than helpful. Breakfast, free, all you can eat, and the bacon and eggs were of the style we are used to. Great fresh squeezed O.J.! Out for shopping in the A.M. Back to the air con for the heat of the day, then back out for dinner in the P.M. Very relaxed. Loved it.

Review 35:It's a very likeable place to stay especially if you want to be close to the ferries to the Greek islands as you can simply walk to the ferry dock without any effort or need a cab at difficult hours. Room was very clean and easy to relax in. The dining room had a nice view out the windows (which surprised me due to the central location). I would definitely stay there again.

Review 36:Didn't have a bad experience but the surrounding area is very run down

Review 37:Friendly staff, appearance of hotel and rooms. Very good value for the price. Good size room and bathroom

Review 38:One big qualm we had was that we arrived dressed as backpackers (we had travelled through 4 countries and for convenience/comfort this had suited. We felt that the staff responded extremely negatively to this. The receptionist asked us had we paid in the restaurant in a very accusing manner and didn't even say thank you when we were checking out.

Review 39:Nice hotel, good location for the ferry to the islands and comfortable rooms

Review 40:Hotel is in not in a very nice surrounding - you need to walk a bit to find it. The breakfast was very average - in Athens I experienced much better options. There were many dishes made from eggs, but just few pieces of fruit. But bread was excellent.

Review 41:Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, always ready to provide information, solve problems of guests, etc. There is a lot of info about Athens available - maps, city guides, etc.

Review 42:What I hated, although I am a smoker was the smoking smell in the room. The room was even equipped with an ash tray. I never smoke in an enclosed area and I did have problems in sleeping due to the smell.

Review 43:Everything was just fine for resting after a long busy day

Review 44:It's more a four star hotel that a five star hotel.

Review 45:Convenient hotel when you have to take a boat early. Snack to take away if you leave early before breakfast time.

Review 46:Staff seemed pretty indifferent and would not allow us to have take-away breakfast because we did not ask for it before (we dWere not told this option existed). They did not offer anything in return or order the bags for us as we checked out in the morning. Also, breakfast starts late if you consider that most ferries leave around 7 am.

Review 47:Locatiin is nice, walking distance to Piraeus port, which is why we chose this hotel.

Review 48:The bathroom was large but the toilet was squashed very close to the bath. The laptop would not fit into the safe although the iPad went in comfortably.

Review 49:The staff were polite and helpful and the hotel was spotless and the room was large and comfortable. The breakfast was ok, plenty to choose from.

Review 50:Confort and hygiene standards not up to 5-star standard (or 4 star for that matter). Bathroom was a standing shower with a hastily repaired shower door (1 door was missing and was replaced with a curtain which leaked water into the bathroom floor). My girlfriend was surprised by a large cockroach in the bedroom near the minibar area. Not at all what you would expect from a 5 star hotel.

Review 51:Breakfast was good, efficient staff.

Review 52:Room decor was a bit tired, and the bathroom sink, when closed, wouldn't open again.

Review 53:Location is very close to Piraeus port, and the staff were incredibly friendly & helpful.

Review 54:There was a lot of loud music played from a small cafe across the road until the early hours. This made it difficult to sleep

Review 55:It was ideally suited to catch the ferry to Paros just 600 m from port. Hotel was very clean. Because we were leaving before the restaurant opened the staff made us sandwiches.

Review 56:Poor directions, no-one knew the hotel, so it was hard to find until we hailed a taxi.

Review 57:Excellent wi- fi - it was easy and fast; very prompt and helpful staff, comfortable beds and massive bathroom; convenient for bus tours to Athens and the Port; excellent for Ferry access. Our ferry left very early (before breakfast start time) so the staff prepared an early morning breakfast with a packed lunch for the ferry trip!

Review 58:nice and clean room & bathroom, breakfast ok, good location (10min walking from Piraeus Port and the Station), very quick check in and check out, wifi working well

Review 59:Expected more for such price. And it doesn't look like 5 star hotel, maybe 3,5-4*.. We've been there for one night before leaving by ferry, but air condition didn't work, we opened windows, but it's noisy in this area. In the bathroom the handshower fell from the wall on my neck when I washed myself.

Review 60:15 minute walk to Sea Jets harbour E9.

Review 61:The location is near the port. Very warm and friendly welcome upon arrival at the hotel. Immediately we were served with a glass of cold water ! Beds are super comfortable. Great toiletries. Breakfast very good.

Review 62:We only stayed 1 night after arriving late afternoon and left for a cruise the next morning but we loved staying here. Reception staff very helpful and generous offering to make us snacks to take if we had to leave before breakfast started. Breakfast had a good selection.

Review 63:Large hotel, very nice staff, ok room with large bed. But if we hadn't had a ferry in the really early morning we would have stayed in the center of Athens.

Review 64:The taxi drivers had a hard time finding the hotel, even with the correct address.

Review 65:We had an excellent room, well laid out and immaculately clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 66:Room needs refurbishing, and remember this is a Greek 5 star standard not comparable to many other countries 5 star standard.

Review 67:The location was good not far from the cruise terminal and the area was quite if a nightime so all in all had a good nights sleep.

Review 68:It's 50 minutes away from the airport. Taxi is €50 daytime and €75 nighttime. Sure it's also accessible by metro or bus.

Review 69:Great hall, spacious room, modern bathroom, quiet It is less than 10 minutes easy walk to the port where I needed to take a boat the next day

Review 70:No kettle! Also the furniture and decoration is now looking rather old fashioned and a little tired, but still perfectly serviceable and obviously of good quality.

Review 71:Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet, just what we needed before our cruise. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice. Bathroom and amenities very good, staff helpful and pleasant.

Review 72:Not particularly clean.

Review 73:Comfortable room. Staff very nice and accommodating. Made us sandwiches to take on the early ferry because we did not have time to eat breakfast.

Review 74:The corner room was huge with windows on two sides. The hairdryer didn't work but they supplied us a portable one almost immediately. We also wanted a kettle and they obliged us. The restaurant was OK.

Review 75:You would expect from a hotel close to the port to have breakfast earlier, however they did provide a below than average packed sandwich.

Review 76:Good location, a short 10 minute walk to the port.

Review 77:Room was a bit 'old'. Definitely felt more 3 or 4 star than 5 star, although price wasn't 5 star either! :)

Review 78:STaff were very friendly. We arrived late at night and left early in the morning to get ferry to the islands. Without asking they had made us sandwiches/breakfast to go! Bath in the room was great!

Review 79:It was a quick stay for me as I just needed somewhere within walking distance to the port. Nice amenities. Before I left in the AM to catch a ferry they let me snag a banana from the buffet before it opened and the front desk guy gave me two wrapped sandwiches for my ferry ride, just because!

Review 80:The bed was hard. Could use a memory foam topper. Didn't like that you can't flush toilet paper. Not sure if that's Greece policy or hotel. But maybe add a boiday?

Review 81:It's near the ports. Beautiful location. very helpful staff and nice. Very good English speaking and helpful.

Review 82:They suggested a bus tour we took and set up for us. We got to see so much of the city because of this and had a really great day. Air conditioner worked great after a really hot day out.

Review 83:Many people have to leave about 6.45 to catch Island ferries. Breakfast doesn't start until 7am. Table in foyer had cake orange juice and coffee( only pods of evaporated milk!!!) we were given a breakfast pack...2 sandwiches of cheap white bread, ham, processed cheese and mayonnaise wrapped in cling film!! Truly dreadful.

Review 84:Clean comfortable room with good wifi

Review 85:Restaurant should serve more Greek dishes, rather than Italian.

Review 86:Location, near the port. Spacious, well-appointed rooms. Good breakfast (by Greek standards!)

Review 87:Stank like stale cigarettes, indifferent service, basic room with no nice touches, entire place needs to be gutted and refurbed.

Review 88:Nothing except that it is close to the port and ferries

Review 89:The bath plug got stuck and it was very difficult to lift the shower plug.

Review 90:Location, large bedroom and the sandwich breakfast we were give as we left too early for breakfast. Brilliant.

Review 91:Very clean hotel. Very close to Pireaus port. The staff were very helpful and friendly - they recommended I buy my ferry ticket the evening I arrived to save me time in the morning. Free wifi. They also packed me a sandwich to take on the ferry as I was going to leave too early for breakfast.

Review 92:Air conditioning system doesn't work like an American hotel, so if not having cold air is a deal-breaker you won't be happy here in summer.

Review 93:Warm, friendly welcome; clean facilities, very comfortable bed, large bathrooms with deep soaking tub. Lovely, plentiful, complimentary breakfast buffet.Terrific location for getting to the cruise terminal. Third time we've stayed here and have never regretted it!

Review 94:We booked a room with balcony, the first room had no balcony and very shabby, wallpaper coming off wall furniture all scuffed and no cover on duvet. We asked for another room to be told they do not have balconies only french windows, they showed us another room which was better but did smell of bad drains but we took it,it still had no cover on duvet which was very strange as it looks on this site to have covers matching curtains. The girl who showed us this rooms was not happy with us for changing and could not understand why we wanted bigger, better room.

Review 95:Location good for ferries

Review 96:From the minute we arrived by taxi until we departed, everything was excellent, staff very helpful and pleasant, and the bed was so comfortable, spotless room. What was there to complain about.l

Review 97:Too bad this hotel is far from the Athens.

Review 98:Great hotel for the price you pay. Wonderful staff specially Mr. Kosta was most informative about the area and his suggestions of restaurants. Very helpful with with making sure we had all we needed for our cruise and excursions. Very very nice breakfast. Very roomy and clean room. We would go back to this hotel if we were ever in the area. I would also highly recommend it for the people who need a nice friendly hotr l neer the cruise ships.

Review 99:Single exception to overall great, the espresso drinks at breakfast were TERRIBLE. Nearly undrinkable.

Review 100:All dimensions are important. Helpfulness of reception desk staff was exceptional.

Review 101:From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were greeted with the warmest smiles from most caring staff. Anything we needed or asked they attended to immediately. After a long day out the staff were there with a huge smile welcoming us back. The hotel was perfectly located for our needs, the room totally clean and tidy, the breakfast ample. We cannot thank enough the staff for looking after us. Thank you all! We will be back!

Review 102:I mentioned by reservation that i will pay cash i think the owner already taken from my credit card in 30 min. before our reservation. absolutely no view only one window was against of a big Sloping roof

Review 103:park beside of hotel. one personel was very kind! and helpful

Review 104:Air conditioning room temperature was 28 degrees but staff could not do anything due to Central heating temprapture thermostat was set fo the entire floor.

Review 105:Everything else was good.

Review 106:The window in the room didn't close and someone he tried to fix it with sticky tape! It was a beautiful building but it was all a bit 'tired' and in need of renovation. I expected better from a five star hotel.

Review 107:The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 108:Poor room furnishing for a 5 star rated hotel. There was only one table chair in the room and old fashion TV sets.

Review 109:Very good location. Very close to the port, to the train and bus stations as well as to the city center.

Review 110:Poor Airconditioning system..The hotel a little too quiet..Not for activa and vibrant travellers...looked more or less a deserted place.

Review 111:Very friendly staff at the reception..helpful Breakfast was good. Good value for money.

Review 112:The internet WiFi connection was not always the best and connectivity seemed to vary considerably but at least you not need to re log on each time you wanted to use it which is a convenience. When we queried it they sent someone but did nothing to improve the problem.

Review 113:The breakfast included in package was absolutely everything you could possibly want, staff service was excellent. I would give it 10/10 easily. In fact I would put it at the top of my list. The room was fantastic with opulent decor and street views on two sides. We stayed 10 days and always looked forward to coming home to this. We were having a business +leisure stay at this hotel and the staff made sure we got any messages.

Review 114:WIFI is not very stable.

Review 115:Very friendly front desk staff and helpful whenever I had questions or requests. The room is clean and size is OK. Close to the ferry platform and subway station. Breakfast is very good.

Review 116:Welcome friendly and efficient. Room spacious and quiet even though it was at the front of the hotel. Breakfast excellent and the choice amazing. Fantastic location - less than 5 mins walking distance from the harbour.

Review 117:No AC cooling and the room was boiling. The receptionist was clearly aware of the problem and told us that we could open the windows and offerd us some mosquito creme. We sad no thanks, you should say yes. Our body's was bitten all over the next day. If you complain the management will fob you off with a story that you got upgraded to a better room. It's not true, but a business model.

Review 118:Very central and close to other hotels you should book.

Review 119:The room did not have wi-fi. Wi-fi was only in the common corridor, lobby and restaurant. The bed consists of two single beds. Discomforting if sleeping together.

Review 120:Perfect staff, good location near the port, the metro, the bus to the airport. Sufficient number of port cafes nearby. The room perfect cleanliness, air conditioning. Delicious and quite varied breakfast.

Review 121:Wifi connection to room was so poor that it would crash. Staff didn't do anything about it after complaint saying it could not be fixed. Not good enough. Wallpaper was falling off the walls. Window was not closing properly the first night and it took the next day to fix it considering it only required one screw. Sleep was impossible that first night and they had no other rooms. I would not rate it as 5 star or even 4. I would rate it as 3 star. The gym was basic and could have used a few more things. The tv was the old one with poor reception. I would have expected a flat screen for such a hotel. Very disappointed.

Review 122:Room size and bathroom. Breakfast was very good and staff were good.

Review 123:By North American standards this hotel is far from a 5 star rating. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Review 124:This hotel is close to the ferry terminal which is what we wanted. The staff were very helpful

Review 125:The room was comfortable but the size of bathroom sink could be bigger. The private parking is accessible from a side street and has no intercom system (I had to walk to the reception and call someone to explain me how to use the lift for the car). The breakfast is very simple for a 5 stars hotel.

Review 126:Good accommodation and location, not so far from the Port of Piraeus. The room was comfortable.

Review 127:Not renovated. In the booking photos look much, much better than it is...Definitely not a 5 star hotel!

Review 128:Clean, comfortable bed. Is very close to the port. For those are going to the islands and have the ferry in the morning it is ok.

Review 129:If you want to explore Athens is a little bit off of hand.

Review 130:Excelent rooms. Very good staff. Walking distance from the port. Perfect location if your going to take the ferries to the islands.

Review 131:It's very difficult to find fault in this hotel!

Review 132:The hotel is well worth it's 5 Star rating! From the exceptionally friendly staff to the wonderful facilities and rooms, this is a hotel which deserves it's accolades. It was a real pleasure to reside in this hotel for 4 days, and if my wife and I ever decide to visit Athens and Piraeus again, we shall not hesitate to select the Theoxenia Hotel.

Review 133:Nothing

Review 134:We have stayed here many times. Easy to walk to from Piraeus harbour. Great staff who are very accommodating. Lovely comfortable room and good breakfast Value for money

Review 135:Air conditioning could be improved. This would be a 4-star hotel by UK standards.

Review 136:Location is perfect between the beaches and athens. Good transport nearby. Great access to the ferry for the islands off piraeus. Friendly and professional staff. great breakfast
