Reviews for Walker Ground Manor
Review 1:Exceptional accommodation and value for money. Made to feel most welcome by the owners whose priority was to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Excellent food and nice extra touches to the room. Would definitely use again.
Review 2:Walker Ground is just outside of Hawkeshead in The Lake District. In themidst of the "ant hill" Hawkeshead can become with so manytourists, Walker Ground is far from the madding crowd. Up a narrow laneand in a beautiful sylvan location, this lovely, quiet and peacefulaccommodation is perfect for visiting The Lake District. The hosts weredelightful and the accommodation elegant and comfortable. You can easilywalk into the village and there are some good pubs there at which youcan have a fine meal. Be sure and print out directions from the websitefor it is indeed tucked away and it takes a little wiggling to get toit. I liked that.
Review 3:Slight issue was the speed of the broadband, although we were told that it is currently being upgraded by the ISP and therefore is out of their hands. But do you need email in such a beautiful place? ?
Review 4:After checking out we were able to leave the bike and walk in the grounds and up to the top of the hill for sometime.
Review 5:If I had to find something it would be the narrow access road, but I'm only being picky there.
Review 6:Lovely spacious property in gorgeous grounds. 4 poster bed room a delight.. Owners very helpful. Cannot wait to stay there again
Review 7:We did go out for a long walk and got absolutely soaked in the non stop rain but hey, it is the lake district and you cant do anything about that !!
Review 8:Everything was excellent, Sue and Richard were very welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. Rooms first class and breakfast could not be faulted. This is a place we will have no problems in re-visiting as soon as we can.
Review 9:Beautiful 17th century house in wonderful location. Host and hostess very welcoming , fresh coffee and cake on arrival a nice touch. Extremely comfortable warm and clean. Breakfast very good. Lots of good information provided re places to eat for dinner , walks etc..Perfect place for a walking break.
Review 10:having to leave
Review 11:everything was perfect , we was made to feel so welcome , it was like visiting family.we shall be going back for sure.It was probably the best place we have stayed
Review 12:Beautiful house and surroundings. Sue and Richard were lovely and very knowledgeable. Breakfast was excellent, the perfect start to a big walk in the lakes. Very special weekend.
Review 13:Only two parts I would mention is the wifi is a little unreliable however coming from the city that's to be expected and the TV was very small for the room but realistically you're not there to watch TV you're there to enjoy the beautiful surroundings so not an issue really.
Review 14:Thought the location is fantastic and the manor itself is absolutely stunning. We stayed in the Veranda room which I would recommend as its away for the house and is large for the price paid. It is also has extremely warming feel to the room. Sue and Richard are great and very welcoming. We have felt beforehand in other hotels as a young couple we can be treated slightly different but this was not the case. Breakfast was one of the best and the choices were great. Will definitely be staying again.
Review 15:Beautiful building. The independent room is stunning, comfortable, clean, with private veranda and the sound of the nearby waterfall. Delicious breakfast and very nice people (Sue and Richard).
Review 16:Fab location. Yummy brekkie for walkers , runners and people who just love the outdoors. So friendly. Breakfast served at big table so chat was so friendly and really made the stay even better. Deluxe massive room and felt like royalty! Local pubs for food great too.
Review 17:Location isn't ideal as if you go out for dinner at night in the village you have to walk back in a badly lit area and past a grave yard.
Review 18:The breakfast was amazing and couple you run the establishment where nice.
Review 19:Couldn't book in until 4 but could leave car there all the time which made up for it.
Review 20:Location, breakfast and the gardens and history of the house.
Review 21:Hosts were very helpful with a pleasant manner. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The overall impact of Ground Manor is impressive with an amazing feel. Garden and conservatory are very appealing. We had a lovely weekend with a full cumbrian breakfast and vegetarian breakfast with other options available. Only 5 minute walk along a short lane into Hawkshead centre. Fab ☺
Review 22:Only the fact that I had to leave.
Review 23:Lovely helpful owners; beautifully finished period home; access to gorgeous garden and conservatory; scrupulously clean; very good breakfast; strong wifi; parking on grounds; welcome cuppa and cake in garden on arrival. We stayed in four poster room and it was an absolute treat to have such a spacious room and HUGE bathroom after 4 weeks on the road. Particularly enjoyed the fact that house was built in 1680 and still retained most original features. Loved the fact that we could open windows in bedroom and bathroom. Slept llike logs, in fact missed a very severe thunder storm. Many great walks around Hawkshead and several pubs and cafes within five minute walk. We parked car and left it. Well done Sue and Richard.
Review 24:Sue and Richard were the perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome. Our room had everything you would need to make your stay feel special. Breakfast was also amazing and we hope to return very soon.
Review 25:The Walker Ground Manor is a superb B&B with lovely grounds. The room was very well appointed and all our needs were catered for. Breakfast was well presented and very tasty.
Review 26:Nothing to dislike.
Review 27:Quiet location and a short walk to Hawkshead Village. The room was clean and comfortable and very spacious. The little touch of coffee and cake on arrival was a nice gesture and the little chocolates treats in the bedroom was also nice. The choice of breakfast was very good and we found the hosts Sue and Richard were excellent.
Review 28:No negatives whatsoever.
Review 29:Everything about Walker Ground Manor is excellent. The location, the rooms, the garden. The breakfast was fabulous and the hosts were very friendly and professional. We will certainly be returning in the future.
Review 30:It was a great stay the only quibble would be an early start to the day for breakfast, on the Sunday.
Review 31:Relaxed atmosphere in a lovely location in Hawkeshead. Morning breakfast was excellent & all freshly prepared, with a good choice of menu.
Review 32:Every single thing was wonderful. Amazing room, breakfast, lovely hosts and attention to detail - too many to write about. Will definitely be back soon.
Review 33:Such a warm welcome. Beautiful place ,bedroom was stunning with everything you wanted in it ,personal touches. Breakfast 100per cent. We couldnot falt one thing.
Review 34:We had a fabulous break at Walker Ground Manor. the four poster bedroom & bathroom was huge, spotless, lovely views. Sue & Richard make us feel very welcome and the breakfast was perfect. We will recommend to friends/family and anyone reading this review.
Review 35:The welcome by Sue, beverages and cake served in the lounge, four poster bed and bedroom with incredible en suite, wifi was excellent, breakfast first class... A wonderful night away.
Review 36:Not a dislike but I thought an honesty bar would be a great idea.
Review 37:Excellent location, thoroughly enjoyed. The room was very big and comfortable as was the bathroom. Owners v friendly and helpful.
Review 38:Excellent accommodation with care given to the detailed little extras you wouldn't always expect. Room and bathroom were beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 39:Fabulous, relaxing break. Beautiful room and excellent breakfast. Hawskhead is quaint and picturesque. Loved our dark, starlit walks back from one of the pubs each night!! Really relaxing break.
Review 40:Absolutely nothing!
Review 41:Friendly owners, large comfortable rooms, a nice garden and lounge coupled with just about every small detail thought about and available for your comfort. Plus a perfect tranquil location just ideal for walks from your door step and good pubs for dinner in the evening.
Review 42:Beautiful period furniture. Fabulous hospitality from the tea and cakes on arrival to the breakfast in the morning. Everything was as we had hoped and better
Review 43:The wet weather initially did not spoil our stay.
Review 44:Lovely old building, full of character and cosy. Nothing too much trouble for our hosts, the coffee and cake on arrival superb. thank you
Review 45:I wouldn't quite describe this as a 5 roses level place. But only because of little things - there was a bulb gone in the bathroom, we could hear someone else's TV loudly through the floor/wall, the cold tap in the sink didn't work properly. That kind of thing. But these are very small points - overall this is a lovely place to stay and I definitely recommend.
Review 46:The room was lovely and very spacious. The bathroom was huge - separate bath and shower. Breakfast was very tasty - lots of care taken by the owners over this aspect. Great location - peacefully away from the village but only a 5 minute walk to get to either of 4 pubs that serve food.
Review 47:because the room we had wasn't in the main house we had to go outside to fetch milk from the main house as none left in the room maybe a little refrigerator in the room would be good.
Review 48:we had the verandah room at the back of the house which was very quiet and peaceful overlooking the garden and stream. The breakfast was excellent with a great choice
Review 49:Slightly tucked away so maybe finding the b&b in the dark for the first time could be tricky, but I am nitpicking - it's a great find!
Review 50:Brilliant location, within easy walking distance of the village with shops and pubs, and also on several footpath routes so the car wasn't always necessary.
Review 51:the weather!
Review 52:very friendly hosts Lovely old Manor House Views to garden and little waterfall Info on walks starting at the front door Use of umbrellas and torches (essential at night as the lane to the village is not lit) Great breakfast Huge bathroom Huge bed
Review 53:Having to leave and go back to work!
Review 54:We enjoyed the whole weekend from start to finish. A very warm welcome from our hosts, including a very welcome tea and coffee served in our room soon after arrival. The well appointed visitors lounge had a roaring wood burner to greet you. Breakfast served in your room or in the amazing dinning room was brilliant. We were able to set off from the door on a walk to take in Tarn Howes and Coniston and it snowed, perfect!
Review 55:Wi-Fi a little weak, but hey you don't need to be 'virtually' connected when you go to a beautiful place like this.
Review 56:My husband and I took a quick 1 night break away to the lakes for a bit of hassle free Xmas shopping - what a good decision, Walker Ground Manor in the very pretty village of Hawkshead exceeded all our expectations, especially the breakfast which was 5 star plus. The accommodation was very comfortable - our room which included a huge on-suite dressing room area, bathroom had everything you could ask for. We especially liked the heavenly lemongrass bath salts! We were made to feel very welcome by the Sue and her husband who's home we felt very privileged to share for our short stay. Breakfast was superb, varied and plentiful - we had fresh fruit salad & very nicely presented full English using local produce. Walker Ground Manor and the surrounding area is an all round delight and we will certainly be returning on our next visit to the lakes.
Review 57:Bed was a little hard for us but that's probably a personal thing. Slept on top of quilt with a blanket and was very comfy. If we'd asked the hosts I'm certain they would have provided extra bedding etc. Harder beds seem to be the thing now?!
Review 58:Almost everything!
Review 59:Friendly welcome, lovely house with character, very comfortable bed, excellent cooked breakfast, caring hosts, easy stroll to the village. Hosts recommended a lovely nearby walk which was just right for us.
Review 60:Didn't like the deposits the owners hens left on our veranda !!!!
Review 61:The piece and quiet also the sight and sound of the Beck next to the accommodation
Review 62:nothing
Review 63:Set in beautiful countryside this B & B offered a very comfortable stay. The hosts were extremely helpful, the room was very large and breakfast was great. The availability of tea and coffee making facilitated in the rooms is always a welcome arrival quencher especially in county locations such as this. Though of course the considerate offer from Sue for refreshments on arrival is very much appreciated also.
Review 64:The dark lane walking back home!!
Review 65:We loved the location, our four poster bed and the great breakfast. It was so easy to walk into the village for a meal and drink in the evening.
Review 66:Everything was perfect! Susan and Richard went out their way to make everything absolutely perfect! A lovely anniversary away :-) will definitely be going back there!
Review 67:Sue and Richard deserve all the credits posted so far and no doubt all those to come in future. Just perfect!! Quiet, warm, clean, great food and a lovely attention to detail. The location, house and gardens are postcard material and the short walk to the village is just right taking away all the hassle from parking. Great!!
Review 68:Such a peaceful place to stay, set in a gorgeous quaint villiage - wonderful staff, the rooms were tastefully decorated & a wonderful atmosphere from start to end.
Review 69:Nothing.
Review 70:With its idyllic location near Hawkshead village and magnificent views, this lovely 16th century house was the perfect place to spend a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable holiday. No effort was spared by Sue and Richard, our hosts, to make us feel completely at home and welcome, from the large, beautifully appointed bedroom and en-suite bathroom, to the delicious breakfasts courtesy of their five free-range chickens! We can't wait to go back and enjoy the whole experience again.
Review 71:Friendly hosts. Very spacious and clean rooms with character. Made use of the separate guest lounge. Advice and assistance given for dinner arrangements. Torches provided for short nice stroll to village for dinner. Breakfast is lovely.
Review 72:Great location and setting. No need to use the car with plenty of lovely walks from the front door and into the village too. Superb cooked breakfast and very friendly owners. We would love to return one day.
Review 73:Vicarage Lane is very narrow & a little hard to find (satnav takes you to an archway which is impassable by car).
Review 74:The hospitality of Sue & Richard was second to none, they made us very welcome & even booked us into one of the local pubs for dinner. Sue dishes up amazing breakfasts with a huge choice. The house is so full of character & retains lots of original features. Look forward to staying again in the future.
Review 75:breakfast was served at a shared dining table. It worked out ok as the people were friendly, but our preference is separate tables usually

Sue and Richard are perfect hosts, warm, friendly, caring, helpful....and great cooks! Loved those chickens too! The Lakes District is a beautiful area and Hawkeshead and it's pubs is a great place to explore....5 min stroll from our lovely verandah room. Same time, same place, next year!
Review 79:Everything was fantastic!
Review 80:Everything was really superb & well thought out by Sue & Richard who are the ultimate hosts. Beds were divine, food glorious and we wish we could bottle their good natures & Sue's laugh in particular. We'd make a fortune!! Hawkshead is a great little village to stay in without the busyness of the larger nearby villages and towns. It has all the character & amenities that you look for and is close to all points of interest.
Review 81:Although only one night, the welcome, hospitality, value for money, facilities and location was the best we have experienced in a very long time. The breakfast was outstanding and definitely worth a mention. Sue and Richard were magnificent hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Very much look forward to visiting again, but for much longer next time!
Review 82:Very friendly and helpful owners / Lovely location - feels remote but isn't / Pretty and spacious room with own verandah / Delicious Breakfast / Hawkshead village close by with pubs and shops - but not so crowded as other Lake District villages

Review 85:Excellent choice for our two night stay in Hawkshead. Lovely old house in peaceful location less than five minutes walk across a field and through the churchyard to the centre of Hawkshead. We were made to feel very welcome by Sue and Richard. Our room was clean and spacious with a wonderfully comfortable four poster bed and luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding. Excellent breakfasts with an extensive choice including eggs from Sue's own hens. We will be back!
Review 86:I appreciated being e mailed by Sue a week or so before arriving so that any questions could be dealt with at that point. That efficiency and care continued with a warm welcome when we arrived and then throughout our stay. We found Walker Ground to be excellent in every way with very high levels of comfort.
