Reviews for Argyll Hotel
Review 1:Occasionally a bit of a battle to park the car in the car park which only has five spaces. Fortunately the battle was only at weekends when parking in the street is a lot easier.
Review 2:Fantastic housekeeper and housekeeping. Well organised, meticulous care of rooms. Breakfast carefully done with reasonable choice. Beautiful shower room. Brilliant for town and Kelvingrove museum on the doorstep.
Review 3:Ideal for our needs - proximity to university and the amenities around Glasgow's west end. Efficiently run hotel and difficult to imagine getting a better value in Glasgow.
Review 4:The bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in, and the breakfast was chaotic and not very well cooked
Review 5:The staff were wonderful and friendly, hotel was clean and perfectly located for our purpose
Review 6:Never really clear when, or if, the bar is open. Useless TV in the room. The coat hangers in the wardrobe were utterly hopeless, would not carry the weight of a coat, or even a pair of trousers without collapsing.
Review 7:Friendly and helpful staff. Great Breakfast. Spotlessly clean. I asked for a quiet room with a bath and that is exactly what I got.
Review 8:Internet didn't work initially, but eventually didn't have many problems. Decor is a bit dated, especially if you don't get one of the tartan themed rooms, which need to be requested before arrival.
Review 9:Free parking available. TV had the added bonus of Internet access great for on demand tv. Rooms were spacious. Breakfast had a good selection.
Review 10:Could get a little noisey outside of the room; the room door does not seem to cut any noise out so conversations on the corridor could be heard, and people knocking on other doors. The room was slightly dated but can't complain given the cost.
Review 11:Room was serviced daily, staff we very willing to offer advice on parking and local attractions. Did offer great value for money; room was clean and we felt comfortable during our stay.
Review 12:Nothing to dislike.
Review 13:Wanted somewhere close to The Hydro. This was perfect.Only 10 minutes walk away. Nice clean comfortable room, nice cooked breakfast, and friendly staff. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Review 14:We had a cosy room, beautifully furnished, on the first floor. This time we chose not to have breakfast, but next time would include this service as it is good value for money with lots of food choices. The staff, as usual, were more helpful than the basic required service and really friendly. We are bound to return to our favourite Glasgow hotel.
Review 15:Just where we wanted to be, close to Uni accommodation where our daughter is living & walking distance to the city. We enjoyed Glasgow very much, lovely place to visit and Argyll Hotel was great value.
Review 16:I had a boiling shower but I imagine it was something that would be fixed quickly. I also thought the hotel was a bit closer to the centre..
Review 17:Decoration of the room is beautiful and feels very luxurious.. Everything is clean and warm. I would def stay here again.
Review 18:not a bad experience just a comment, slightly larger choice of menu in the evening would have been nice.
Review 19:excellent breakfast every day, nice staff, beds and bedrooms good, clean and fresh bathrooms fresh towels, good beds.Nice clean warm hotel good staff and facilities, close to city centre but far enough away to be peaceful.Recommended.
Review 20:Room noisy to outside traffic all night long.Had no air conditioning & husband was very hot even with heating off as suffers with leukaemia. Both had a sleepless night with noise & heat.
Review 21:Staff friendly & helpful.Honeymoon suite lovely.
Review 22:my friend left an item at the hotel, when she called regarding this they claimed the item was not left but in the first instance they were able to say they had the item. Not good.
Review 23:Booked for my parents who attended a recent concert (December 2015). Great location for SSE Hydro, room was very clean and hotel well decorated with a touch of tartan!. .
Review 24:The receptionists were quite rude and unfriendly. The toilet seat kept dropping and hurting my hand! Bed and pillows quite uncomfortable to start with and room temperature was too warm.
Review 25:The waitresses at breakfast were very friendly and happy. Nice big bedroom for all my friends. Fantastic shower best I've seen in any hotel.
Review 26:The private parking at back (lane) big pot holes &. Very very thick mud needs to be looked at
Review 27:Family room lovely big TV on wall for all to see . Very clean . N up to date.
Review 28:the bar is only open on a Friday and Saturday and I don't think that's right
Review 29:I liked the location close to the sse hydro and the breakfast was good
Review 30:Don't know if it was us but the water pressure in shower was not great and could not get the water much hotter that warmish.
Review 31:room was not huge but very adequate. Very clean and comfortable bed with very clean bathroom/shower. Excellent breakfast with very well mannered and helpful staff.
Review 32:The hall carpets were worn and there was a high wind. We were on the 4th floor and the noise from the loft sounded like items were getting blown around. So loud we were woken up throughout the night.
Review 33:The room was good and the beds were comfortable. The food prices were good. The breakfast was great. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 34:Asked for more milk, sugar etc for room........still waiting for it !!
Review 35:Good value for money. Room clean and breakfast good.. Within walking diets to Hydro.
Review 36:Room was on the top floor, decor a bit shabby and room small for a twin. Bed was too hard. I thought the £8.50 charge for breakfast was a bit of a cheek. Poor quality ingredients (except the bacon), and the only eggs on offer were scrambled. If the breakfast had been included in the price it would have been acceptable.
Review 37:The close proximity to the Hydro, clean bathroom, good shower.
Review 38:The location is excellent (close to Kelvinhall Subway Station, the University, and many bars and restaurants). The rooms were very clean and full of character.
Review 39:I had ticked a box asking for parking. There was none available. The bar wasn't open later in the evening.
Review 40:The hotel was booked on the basis of location to the hydro. It was comfortable without being luxurious.
Review 41:Shower was fixed on boiling hot (room 407) and couldn't shower so tried to take bath but it was filthy - scum on sides
Review 42:Great value for money and close to hydro and walking distance of Oran mor. Breakfast lovely and staff very helpful
Review 43:The window *right next to the toilet and at the same level... Maybe should have frosted glass up the window at the bottom to keep the dignity of the person on the toilet.
Review 44:We had the four poster bed and breakfast included. The actual room was brilliant and the bathroom was clean and very nice. Breakfast was amazing with a good selection to chose from.
Review 45:The reception staff were rude and blunt, the hotel rooms was tiny and the hotel was stuck in the late 70's seeing as many of the facilities and general decor was outdated and tired. Also the bedroom door was a nightmare.
Review 46:The only thing that was lovely was the buffet breakfast and the breakfast staff were lovely... apart from that... nothing.
Review 47:A little bit of noise outside window at pub closing time but to be expected given location
Review 48:Great location for the hydro. Really comfortable four poster bed. Great breakfast. Friendly staff, lovely hotel would recommend
Review 49:Would've liked toilet rolls in room instead of single sheet dispenser but that's a preference rather than a complaint
Review 50:Lovely room. Staff were great. Breakfast was good
Review 51:There was nothing to dislike about this hotel
Review 52:The location of the Argyll Hotel is ideal for Hydro, Secc, Kelvingrove , our purpose for our trip was to visit Glasgow University, which was only a few minutes away by foot. Beds were very comfortable, and room was spotless. Great breakfast too.
Review 53:Reception was understaffed and some of them were not very informed as too the local area, ie takeaways, restaurants nearby. Shower quite poor. Aspects of room not clean. Feel there should be some snacks available late evening eg toasties that could be heated up easily/quickly by staff as the restaurant is not open late during the week.
Review 54:Glaswegian waitress at breakfast was lovely, warm, attentive, a great asset to the hotel. Room was warm. Good price for the location.
Review 55:The staff the location and the room were all perfect, we booked a room for 2 people and were given a massive room room that slept 5. Outstanding value for money as it only cost £59, which I think is brilliant
Review 56:Bed creaky to just sit on. Room a little run down and dirty looking and free wifi not available as advertised.
Review 57:Location good for the hydro and auditorium and not a long walk to city centre. Good food venues close by.
Review 58:The lock on our door was a bit dodgy - it took us a few times to get it to open the door. The bed was also a little hard, but we hardly noticed once we all cosy.
Review 59:The staff were lovely and the location was perfect for us as we were visiting the University of Glasgow. The rooms were lovely and warm which was so nice when we arrived.
Review 60:Slight dirts on decorative pillows. Nothing much to leave you unsatisfied (I know some people care for cleanliness more than normal)
Review 61:Everything was as expected.
Review 62:Staff were not very well English literate, could have been better in that aspect
Review 63:I liked the cleanliness off the hotel and how well showed it is, would recommend definitely
Review 64:The location is great. My husband and I traveled to Glasgow for a concert at the O2 Academy and the hotel was only a 10 min cab ride. Parking can be tricky but street parking is free from 6 pm to 8 am. Lots of great restaurant options within walking distance and very helpful staff! Jenny in the dining hall was very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was awesome! We will stay here again!
Review 65:Location for west end of Glasgow is excellent and is only a short walk from the Hydro Secc. Also there is an excellent restaurant (Ox & Finch) nearby.
Review 66:Remote for the TV could have been doing with a clean and i could hear people talking in other rooms but these were the only small issues
Review 67:Small double room with everything you need for one nights stay. Spotlessly clean, comfy bed, and with a lovely new modern bathroom. Included breakfast was FAB. Nothing microwaved, and very tasty with a good range of options. Restaurant staff were lovely and helpful. Nice stay. I'll visit again.
Review 68:Wi-fi did not work. They tried to restart several times, still was not possible to connect. No vegetables on breakfast.
Review 69:Fairly priced. Location - close to museum and uni. Cool burger & craft beer pub in 6 minutes walk.
Review 70:The first pillow on top was smelly, but swapped anyway with the many other ones provided.
Review 71:Clean, modern and hot showers. Nice decoration. Good choice for breakfast and they have amazing homemade bread. Hair dryer provided. Room was very warm.
Review 72:Wifi connection was poor, but that is a very slight problem to contend with.It is definitely a 21st Century 1st world problem is that one ! It would never put me off,or should it anyone else,in staying again.Brilliant place to stay.
Review 73:Location was ideal for the purpose of the stay ie a 10 minute walk to & from The SSE Hydro Arena.Room was extremely spacious, very clean and totally comfortable.Staff were extremely helpful from checking in to checking out.Breakfast selection was also tremendous, from cereal to cooked breakfast to select from.Highly recommend to stay here if you are planning a visit to Glasgow for any length of time.
Review 74:Fabulous bathroom in honeymoon suite shame about the shabby bedroom accessories ( pillow shams tatty )
Review 75:Lovely helpful staff from check in to check out; quite basic breakfast but the quality was excellent;
Review 76:Was a little noisey due to traffic and people in front street
Review 77:Room was very big lots of space for kids to play in room Very close to hydro where we were seeing a show ( walking distance )
Review 78:Difficulties with opening the door and getting it to lock, but this was solved eventually.
Review 79:The bed was very comfortable and the staff were very helpful
Review 80:When at breakfast our sheets and towels (all except one towel) were removed. It was pretty obvious our room was still occupied. There was no way the cleaning staff thought the room was vacated - our belongings were everywhere!!
Review 81:The Wi-Fi was quite weak. Although one gets good reception throughout the hotel, I think their outgoing bandwidth is too small for the needs of the place.
Review 82:The place is really nice, staff is very friendly, the Scottish theme of the hotel is interesting. Breakfast was very good and I loved their home-made bread.
Review 83:Nothing!!! Fab stay here.
Review 84:Really clean and staff were very helpful, 10 mins walk to secc, 20 mins to town centre, car safely parked outside, will be back here again when visiting glasgow.
Review 85:Parking extremely limited. Building in need of repair and redecorating as wallpaper and ceiling peeling off and bathroom blinds dirty
Review 86:Location for access to city centre and SECC very good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very nice breakfast
Review 87:It says it has parking, but this is a small car park, which was full when we arrived. Our family room was quite small, only one of us could move round the room at a time!
Review 88:This hotel is in a good location for visiting the Hydro Centre, and for exploring local restaurants. It has character.
Review 89:The room was very small for a triple, particularly with 3 adults. There were failed bulbs in the central light fitting and the toilet cistern made persistent noises throughout the night. Parking was EXTREMELY limited and down a very rough, muddy unadopted road. It was very expensive for what we got
Review 90:It was very convenient for the SECC and city centre. Breakfast was excellent
Review 91:We booked 3 family rooms & travelled as a group. Booking made Feb confirmed by email. Articles & only 2 family rooms available so 1st night had adults & children split up in different rooms. Al family rooms on different floors so spent lot of time with kids running up & down floors. Moved 3"2 family room 4 last night but manager didn't even contact to apologise 4 inconvenience to group or apologise kids had 2 sleep on their own.
Review 92:Location was good central & easy 2 get 2 everyqlwhere. Rooms were nice & clean
Review 93:Always clean and comfortable and lovely staff. Bar/restaurant in hotel and plenty bars and restaurants close by. Ideal for the exhibition centre and the west end but not right in city centre if that's what you're looking for. Rooms aren't huge but that didn't bother me.
Review 94:Breakfast very average. No atmosphere in bar in evening and it was a bit cold. Dining room very old and tired. 4th floor room had a coomed ceiling which wasn't great for 2 tall people. Wifi didn't work in room. Although free parking was stated as available there are only 4 spaces round the back.
Review 95:Location - near university Receptionist was friendly and helpful. Shower room was clean and modern though very small.
Review 96:bed was too comfortable so didn't wake up in time for breakfast lol
Review 97:everything was good just wish i wasn't working so could have enjoyed it more
Review 98:The night receptionist was not as friendly as expected, I have to approach her and ask for every step of the way during my check in. And there is really minimal parking lots (5 only). You will have to be there early to get a slot.
Review 99:The location is great, within walking distance to Glasgow University, Kevingrove Park etc, and there are many food places near the location. Was extremely lucky to upgrade from twin to a family room, which is very spacious. Even though there is a pub within the hotel, there was minimal noise.
Review 100:Location was excellent and the staff were first class. Had a problem with a hairdryer and it was fixed within 5 minutes. Could not find fault with anything.
Review 101:Loved the style of the hotel, very Scottish but felt a little quirky not 'twee'. Breakfast was great. Really nice setting, loved looking out onto the street.
Review 102:Room changed at request (twin for double) do ended up with great room, Around 15-20 min walk from the shops, but close to other bars and a nice park.
Review 103:My inly quibble would be having to pay an extra £15 for early entry even though I specified on booking my time of arrival
Review 104:The room I had was amazing for the price, great decor, good sleep
Review 105:Hotel is great area of Glasgow. Easy to find and easy to get to city centre with public transport close to front door. Nice real "Scottish" feel to hotel
Review 106:Free WIFI was a little bit slow, walls were a bit thin and I could hear what sounded like an elephant blowing it's nose from the other room. Parking at the rear is a bit tight, and I struggled to get into my car due to an inconsiderate driver, who clearly couldn't park
Review 107:Great location. Great breakfast. Some good pubs in the area and restaurants
Review 108:We were put in a small, low ceilinged room on the top floor with a small window, very little space to walk between the beds and almost no place to place our suitcases. The other rooms on the lower floors had high ceilings, plenty of space and were bright and cheery.
Review 109:We liked the good breakfast in the cozy breakfast room and the great location near Kelvingrove
Review 110:Reasonably sized room, good bathroom, very clean. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Excellent breakfasts served in very cosy, attractive series of rooms. A lovely hotel with a tasteful touch of tartan so that you felt like you were actually in Scotland. Great location for our work but also for good range of bars and restaurants, but not touristy.
Review 111:The car parking area is very small & usually full which means that the only real parking is on the roads where parking spaces are very limited. The Wi-fi is very weak & does not work correctly. The shower was only a trickle
Review 112:Room was a bit small, entrance looked like a cupboard under the stairs. Chair placed between bed and bathroom door when there wasn't enough room for it.
Review 113:Breakfast was lovely, good location for the hydro.
Review 114:Parking is terrible, however that's the standard at all the hotels. Just something to deal with
Review 115:This was an excellent location. Close to lots of attractions.
Review 116:I was made to feel relaxed and wanted. The Italian lady at breakfast was excellent at everything she did. And the "chef" made a great breakfast.
Review 117:Put in a broom cupboard (room 410 I think) Relocated after complaining, but still had to endure one night with an average ceiling height of 1.7m
Review 118:Clean and tidy
Review 119:Friendly helpful staff, put our bags in our room for us although we arrived in the morning before check-in. Told us which bus to get to our destination. Although buffet the breakfast was freshly cooked.
Review 120:Carparking. Information about the availability of the discounted street parking tickets needs to be advised at time of making a booking, as when we arrived with 2 cars, only one space was available in the rear very small carpark. Uncertainty as to where else to park was stressful on arrival.
Review 121:Spacious rooms with good facilities.
Review 122:Didn't have a bad experience, but one little niggle would be the pillows. They were uncomfortable with not much support.
Review 123:clean, convenient, friendly staff, everything needed was there.
Review 124:only downside was a long long way away from the city , I only had a shower in room but not a huge problem as only had a short stay
Review 125:No frills budget hotel. All you need at a decent price, pretty quiet on the whole
Review 126:I stayed on a Saturday night and there was a lot of noise from people the Public house next door, which affected my sleep. (They have live entertainment on Saturdays.)
Review 127:Staff were most helpful, and friendly. I could not fault them. My room was clean, and well equipped.
Review 128:Some of the rooms a bit shabby but looks like improvement ongoing.
Review 129:The rooms were a good size. The location was good for our purposes. The staff ordered taxis for us which were there in minutes. Excellent service. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Review 130:Coaches parked outside our window (don't know what you do about that). Big round pillow 'thingy' on the bed was heavy to lift off each night and difficult to find a place for.
Review 131:We were able to buy parking for the car in the main street for a reasonable price. The room was well equipped and apart from the traffic noise was very quiet. Staff very helpful with directions for buses, etc. Good location in relation to the city. We were able to walk most places comfortably.
