Reviews for The Palk Arms

Review 1:Very cramped en suite shower room. Bed a bit soft for our liking, but everyone's individual with beds. Parking up the road could have been an issue if raining hard.

Review 2:Very friendly and helpful staff. Tasty food, both the evening meal we had there and the inclusive breakfast. View from the back. Historical inn.

Review 3:Very friendly ,happy staff, excellent range of beers, and very good pub food at sensible prices. Our room was recently decorated, comfortable, and very well equipped, with a well fitted out en-suite ,and a good shower. A well run pub, with friendly locals, and a great view from the dining area.

Review 4:The welcome and friendliness of staff. Excellent food and really comfy bed. Very clean bedroom and bathroom. Loved piggy tiles in bathroom ! Stunning views form bedroom.

Review 5:The owners and staff were so friendly and accommodating. We arrived close to the end of when food was being served but they were laid back and told us not to rush. Olive the dog was also lovely! There was also a great selection at breakfast!

Review 6:Check in was late. We had to go away and come back. The bed wasn't very comfortable.

Review 7:The Breakfast room had a good view. Breakfast was served promptly and well presented.

Review 8:XD had realised it was in the park...just hadn't picked up it was at the top of the hill, at the end of one of these narrow alleys in between edges. All good, but as we got there when it was dark we really started laughing thinking we were lost. If you haven't dined, make sure to get there by 10 :-) (pub's kitchen shuts afterwards and we didn't see any alternative locally)

Review 9:Really lovely place, friendly people, nice room, stunning views, a real 16th century pub...and some of the best dry humour ever scribbled on the beams!

Review 10:Hot water slightly temperamental but not enough to spoil stay

Review 11:Friendly helpful staff.Great atmosphere.Comfy large room ,big bed. Food basic but very tasty.Lovely real ales

Review 12:We regret only booking 2 nights.

Review 13:Amazing staff, incredible food, amazing location to get away from our busy lifestyle, and gorgeous hikes up the country side.

Review 14:Was a little tricky to get up & down stairs which couldn't be helped. Was a funny smell in bathroom at first, not horrid but not nice either smelt a bit like kebab. Clothes hanging rail bit high if your on short side in height. Personally would have liked the shower water to be a little hotter.

Review 15:Really lovely staff, views & food- can't fault at all. Nice big bed, great shower. Very clean.

Review 16:Friendly patron and hostess, staff and village residents. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. Excellent views from the dining room. Sensible food and drink prices.

Review 17:Not too keen on the Long and winding roads and not within walking distance to another

Review 18:Fantastic atmosphere with a great landlord and landlady (with very good sense of humour) loved our stay

Review 19:The friendly hosts the local knowledge the fun they have together as "locals" We really enjoyed the experience, especially the local dogs being part of the fun

Review 20:Would have preferred a cooked breakfast even if I had to pay extra.

Review 21:Small, comfortable, clean and friendly. Good evening meal which was excellent value for money. Far better than having to fight through the traffic to get to Torquay.

Review 22:Bathroom and bed could be a little big bigger

Review 23:Lovely little room right above a picturesque pub with stunning views over Dartmoor National Park, friendly staff and great atmosphere

Review 24:fantastic location, friendly staff, reasonable price and the breakfast was as good as it gets in the UK, even had their home made jams. highly recommended

Review 25:Walking through the pub when people were in it to access upstairs felt a bit odd but everyone was very friendly

Review 26:Quiet rural location. Pub with a lot of character. Wonderful views over the valley made breakfast a very pleasurable experience. Despite room being over a pub there was no intrusive noise. The staff were very welcoming. We only spent one night but I'm sure it would be a good base for a local walking holiday

Review 27:I didn't like that we could only stay one night due to other arrangements

Review 28:We were made to feel very welcome, we had a meal which was excellent for quality and value for money. The best bed I've ever slept in the room although small was spotless as was the en suite .

Review 29:Really pretty village location, friendly staff and locals were all very welcoming. The atmosphere was lovely and would love to return for another stay! Nothing negative to say about it at all.Highly recommend to all.

Review 30:Nice people. Very welcoming. Nice bedrooms. And a very sweet country cottage with a magnificent sight on a beautiful Devonshire valley! Perfect for a resting happy stay!

Review 31:Village reached by single track road for c 3 miles or so, car Pakistan available on village parking about 50 m from the pub. Dog friendly we had 2 small dogs with us. Lovely local atmosphere in very peaceful rural setting. Meal in the small restaurant was good home made cooking.

Review 32:Nothing!

Review 33:Warm welcome. Very friendly & helpful staff. Good food & choice of menu. Cider like you have never tasted before! A real, old, traditional local pub with a wonderful atmosphere. Off the beaten track. Characteristic old building. A place to relax. Easy access to lots of lovely places, especially walks.

Review 34:Beautiful location, lovely rooms with beds you did not want to leave in the morning! Lovely and cosy downstairs and really friendly, welcoming atmosphere by the owners, staff and locals. The views from the palk arms were fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed eating our meals overlooking the teign valley. Food was fantastic value for money with lots of choice for dinners so we ate dinner there on the two nights we stayed. Would be happy to return! We enjoyed the breakfast and there's a good amount offered but the option of a cooked breakfast would be nice even if we had to pay a bit more. We especially liked the little touches like cafietieres for your coffee though! Thinking about when we can go back all ready!

Review 35:Breakfast was continental self serve would have preferred a cooked breakfast option. Dog in the dining area at breakfast.

Review 36:Staff helpful and friendly, no intrusions on our privacy, very comfortable bed

Review 37:Unfortunately had to be away early so didn't have time to stay for breakfast.

Review 38:Made very welcome. Good sized room. comfy beds. Bar looked cosy. Good views from restaurant. No hesitation in recommending the Palk Arms for a stay.

Review 39:I was not happy with the fact that the owners dog was constantly under the table whenever we ate. in my book dogs and food do not mix and I believe the dog should be removed from the bar during meal times.

Review 40:Very friendly people. Good evening meal selection and good value food. local people very nice and very helpful.

Review 41:The fact that we arrived late at night and leave early in the morning due to work. we ll be back for sure!

Review 42:Everything. People were really nice, room was nice and cosy and breakfast was great! Nice view from breakfast area.

Review 43:Beautiful location and stunning view. Friendly staff. Proper village pub with lots of local character. Very nice local cider, lovely menu, comfortable and value for money room. Spot on.

Review 44:Driving in the Devon rat runs. Remember to fold in the car mirrors and do not approach through Teign Village. Bell Lane or Clay Lane are easier.

Review 45:Overall experience of staying in a village pub with friendly people and good food.

Review 46:This is exactly what we were looking for. We were looking for an authentic British inn, far in the country, to spend the night in. And we got it there.

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:Everything, all people there are so friendly. Food was nice with a awesome view from restaurant~ self service breakfast are plenty of choices. The mattress is comfortable.

Review 49:It was unfortunate that the electric shower did not work and that the chips were soggy, but I would forgive that as the staff more than made up for it.

Review 50:Staff and the room

Review 51:Not the owners' fault but narrow roads to get there - I'm terrified of them! Wouldn't put me off returning though.

Review 52:Stayed here mid-week during a break away in Devon. Arrived and the owners Jane and Ivan were very welcoming (as was Olive the dog!). Our room was very quirky which we loved. Free wi-fi was offered and we could refill our tea, coffee, sugar etc as we wished. We had an evening meal here (steak night) which was tremendous value for money and the desserts were so tasty. Breakfast was a do-it-yourself affair which suited us down to the ground. We had cereal, toast, coffee, croissants and there was fruit and yoghurts also available. My other half was slightly worried when we checked the website out to read about the ghosts but I don't think we encountered anything supernatural! All of this for £45 (not including dinner obviously!) - a real bargain. The owners have only offered B and B for a short time but if they carry on like that - they're on to a winner. Would highly recommend.

Review 53:Only a minor - the bed seemed new but was nevertheless a bit on the spongy side for our tastes.

Review 54:The Palk gave us a very happy welcome in an inn that clearly has strong local appeal and a desire to spread that welcome to visitors. The location, quite remote, is also very special for anyone seeking the Devon outdoors. Nice comforting pub food was a bonus - no need to go out again after our day on Dartmoor. Our room, £45pn was also very good value for money.

Review 55:Very friendly service. Good food. The room was perfect and what a bathroom. Just very happy with this choice.

Review 56:The welcome - there wasn't one

Review 57:For our one night the room was perfectly clean but would have liked a comfier bed.

Review 58:Excellent food and drink, friendly people, nice room, good all round atmosphere. Olive was especially entertaining!

Review 59:Staff room view breakfast the welcome ,the customers the full works.
