Reviews for YHA Sheringham

Review 1:Room was a little too warm with only a tiny window to open, but not so hot that it was uncomfortable.

Review 2:Ease of parking. Clean beds. Excellent room. Convenient breakfasts.

Review 3:Good location, close to train stations (NR and North Norfolk Steam Railway) and town centre. Very comfortable lounge area. On-site restaurant was convenient for dinner.

Review 4:The showers were enclosed - no window The flotex carpets which looked dingy and didn't smell very fresh The window only opened at the top The whole place looked as if it needed redecorating From our window we could see a corridor on the 2nd floor with windows along it.There was a grubby raggedy curtain hanging on one part of the window , but not properly attached.A really depressing sight.Easiy could be replaced for a bright well kept look.

Review 5:It was quiet at night The bedding was clean and fresh The beds were firm and comfortable The general communal facilities were good

Review 6:Getting a computer connection was dire. The mattresses on the beds in the rooms were a bit uncomfortable and hard and the room could be better painted and decorated as could some of the walls

Review 7:The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. THE LOCATION WAS NICE AND QUIET.The kitchen facilities were excellent and very clean and well organised.

Review 8:The TV in the lounge wasn't working, the toaster wasn't working properly, the breakfast was very poor..We had no hot water in the shower nearest to our room at 7.30 in the morning.. The accommodation side of the building was old & tired, it needs a complete makeover..

Review 9:The location was good, the place was clean & the DIY kitchen was excellent

Review 10:Bunk Beds in the smallest most basic of rooms ( No.28) .. and the design was such you couldn't even sit on the bed ... maybe all right for children ...but never again!

Review 11:Receptionist friendly

Review 12:The light in the shower was switched off automatically quite often in order to save energy and it was quite hard to get it on again in the dark.

Review 13:The location was good. It was clean. Good parking space. Close to the beautiful town center.

Review 14:That the pool table and table football had to take money for them to work, I think that if you are staying at YHA, they should be free

Review 15:The games room Pool table, table football

Review 16:Fire exit light in room made it difficult to sleep. Pity Tv and telephone not working Bath mat i shower areas wood have been good

Review 17:staff very helpful and location good. Kitchen facilities good.

Review 18:Very small room for our family, with hot water piping making it uncomfortably warm for a summer stay. Only 1 shower for our part of the building.

Review 19:Friendliness of staff. Very good selection games 4kids. Generous breakfast. Perfect location & easy to find.

Review 20:Like the self catering kitchen. Facilities in general are good. Kelly at the reception was a delight. Location brilliant. Price excellent. Wet room great.

Review 21:Very noisy doors, and people walking after 11 pm and about 6 am and slamming the doors.

Review 22:I did like playroom, self catering kitchen and location of hostel.

Review 23:Reasonable, just quite expensive at £54 for a very basic twin room compared to other places we've stayed. Summer holiday location obviously playing a part. Wifi cut out and wouldn't reconnect.

Review 24:Quite typical youth hostel type. On site restaurant and bar with lounge area. Friendly staff.

Review 25:The bed was extremely uncomfortable, also shower wasn't working and had to go down a floor to use another. 2 mins in the shower and light went off, leaving me in complete darkness.

Review 26:Breakfast lovely, excellent location

Review 27:£90 plus breakfast for Friday night, Holes in wall, dirty sink that needs descaling and loo, dirty carpet in room, furniture moved around leaving dirty marks on wall. Two bunks in one room, one sticking out into room, makes top bunk unsafe! Not nice like the internet pictures my husband showed us!

Review 28:Breakfast

Review 29:In walking distance of station and town centre. I booked the room up to 2 weeks in advance and it was advertised as just the room at a good price. We had low expectations, but was pleased to have our own toilet. Beds were comfortable and the showers did not go cold. There was a kitchen, dining room and laundry if you wanted to use it. At an extra charge you can have breakfast and evening meal. I think the room was value for money as basically we used it as somewhere to sleep.

Review 30:The room was up in the rafters of the old part of the building and was very tired looking. It is lucky we are not very tall, as you could easily keep bumping your head on the beams!

Review 31:The staff are very helpful. The general condition of the hostel is good and it is centrally located.

Review 32:Hostel is slightly lacking in character compared to others I've stayed in. Nevertheless this was a return visit and we will probably be back again because of it's excellent location and friendly staff

Review 33:Great base for a family seaside holiday in lovely Norfolk. Very friendly staff and other travellers. Good hostel spirit. Good sense of space with TV and games room.

Review 34:nothing was all round brilliant for the value of the money

Review 35:The staff was brilliant !! Had to leave early to go to work and they opened the kitchen early to make me a coffee and parking the van was brilliant really enjoyed my stay

Review 36:Starting to look a bit run down in places, bunk beds in some / all? rooms, take a towell !

Review 37:Price, Price, price, location, breakfast, friendly staff

Review 38:we had bunk bed, we are 72 and 75 so as you can guess they were not comfortable at all. the room was small toilet and bathroom were outside the room and shared

Review 39:meals were good staff were pleasant downstairs was newly refurbished

Review 40:Only one shower on the second floor. Very basic rooms, fair enough but missing 2 of the coat pegs and a mirror over the sink. The curtain too small and didn't cover the edges of the window.Only 1 socket in the room.

Review 41:Quiet at night. Cheap and convenient

Review 42:Generally I find YHAs to be over-priced and Sheringham is no exception.£51 per night for a tiny room with a small, uncomfortable bunk bed istoo much. There are also extra fees for towel hire and luggage storage. The latter of these I find particular penny-pinching – the luggagestorage room is there whether people use it or not, so why charge themto use it? It costs yha nothing to hold a bag in a locked room for afew hours.

Review 43:I liked the guest kitchen, which is quite large and contains fridges, freezer and most tools you'd need. There are also some nice largecommunal lounge areas. The member of staff we dealt with was friendly. The location is excellent, close to a large Tesco and Sheringhamrailway station.

Review 44:Wifi connection hopeless, would not except pin. No staff (who knew what to do about it) around. Upstairs gloominess, hallways and bedrooms, dark, unpainted in need of TLC ie redecorating etc. Also bedrooms could do with a small table and chair just for a little comfort, no where to put things if staying more than one night. no lift (for the slightly elder guests.Members kitchen needs air extractors!! and washing up bowls were really dirty!! cleanliness in the kitchen could be improved! also members dining area was very echo ye making it hard to speak could do with insulation.

Review 45:The community spirit, friendly, easy going, very few rules!!. facilities downstairs were brilliant, bright and cheerful atmosphere, lots of school children on trips, but ordered and well behaved!!!, TV lounge. Good food and young but polite staff.

Review 46:We would have liked to have been able to turn down the heating as the bedroom was very hot.

Review 47:Flexibility of having meals as and when we wanted. Good value dinners with young children eating for free. Good facilities for self catering, too.

Review 48:Would havd liked a little table in the room ideally but no major issue

Review 49:Staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Self catering kitchen and dinning room very clean and well equipped. Games room was a hit with my boys (8 and 11). Weather was very kind to us too which was a bonus. Thank you. Will definitely be back, previously stayed at Wells YHA a few times and we still visited Wells for fab beach and pinewoods but preferred Sherringham Hostel.

Review 50:Light above sink in bedroom didn't work. Bedroom in need of redecoration. Bedroom carpet needed replacing.

Review 51:Very friendly and helpful reception. Breakfast good value. Modern showers on first floor.

Review 52:Problem with the hot water during peak times (pre-breakfast), though the staff did contact a plumber and ensure we had access to showers in an alternative area of the buildings.

Review 53:Cheap, comfortable, clean accommodation near to the railway station.

Review 54:The Institutional style design, the dark halls, the large size, all making it seem oppressive, and difficult to meet others. The need for a refurbishing paint and carpet job inside. The battered and stained hallways and rooms makes any amount of cleaning seem futile.

Review 55:The location, the staff, the food, the price.

Review 56:It's expensive for a hostel - over £20 per night for a dorm. There wasn't individual reading lights for each bed so you must disturb everyone else with the main light or scramble around in the dark.

Review 57:The staff are super friendly and sweet, location is close to Sheringham centre, parking is convenient.

Review 58:Other residents clog dancing after midnight Elephants in the water pipes late at night;(loud glugging in sink waste pipes)

Review 59:Great place to stay Great staff

Review 60:I was shcoked athe the dirtiest of the kitchen and couldn't find aclean saucepan anywhere. I'm surprised it's not been reported ongrounds of health and hygiene. The freezer was filthy too and we toldstaff about this. There were no comfortable chairs except in tv room andI wanted somewhere to sit away from tv. . So had to resort to going intothe town to find somewhere comfortable. .The bedroom was very basic anddirty. . Definitely wouldn't stay again. You may be interested toknow we spent the next night at the independent hostel in Burnham deepdale.. Which was cheaper. . Incredibly clean and well cared for . Therewas no comparison. Come on yha. . If you want to survive. . You need toget Your act together..I Will be intersted to hear if you get positivefeedback from your open day this weekend.. Personally I would be ashamedto open those doors to the public,

Review 61:Some of my family were a bit grumpy about having to sort out their sheets compared to staying at a travel lodge which we did a few days earlier, but I think it's worth it for the extra facilities such as self-catering kitchen, communal lounges, games room, and the general friendly atmosphere of a hostel

Review 62:Nice friendly hostel with good facilities such as games and TV rooms, dining area for breakfast, self-catering for evenings (or whatever suits you) Good location near the coast of Norfolk and within pleasant sea-side town of Sheringham

Review 63:My friends didn't have problems with the bunkbeds but my separate bed was a little too short for me, I am only 5.7 but my feet went over the end of the bed. Also the rooms could have done with a fresh lick of paint, even if just a basic white coat, perhaps some photos of the local beach on the wall. I know you don't go to hostels for the decor but you're more likely to go back if it has those nice little touches.

Review 64:We were knackered from a long cycle and it was a clean basic place to just conk out. Made cosier by the little overhead lights on the beds. Bedding smelt fresh and was found neatly folded on top of the duvets for us to make which made it feel clean. Staff were helpful recommending places to eat. There were towels to rent and they kept our bags, both for an additional £2

Review 65:It seemed that every door on our landing closed with a bang! Very annoying at 11pm! The restaurant was excellent on one night and poor on the next when it took two hours to serve 15 meals and ours was overcooked when it did arrive.

Review 66:Very easygoing atmosphere with good old fashioned community spirit. Great for kids and adults.

Review 67:Had to share bathroom and toilet also we had to do our own duvet n pillow covers make our bedding it was more of a hostle didnt expect that

Review 68:I like the longue had a pool and play area staff were freindly and welcoming

Review 69:No-one would choose to share a bathroom but, again, clean & adequate for needs

Review 70:Great location Covered our requirements Family fun games room Pleasant staff

Review 71:1. The Kitchen/cooking facilities need total redesign and refurbishment. You can and I did prepare two evening meals for which I am grateful but everything is on its last legs. Also a shortage of fridge /freezer space. Also only one toaster of which 2 out of 4 burners worked. Only one cafetiere. No decent sized frying pan/wok. etc etc. 2. The only consume alcohol bought from the hostel policy is self defeating as people drink in their rooms or in the corridors. 3. Lack of a comfortable TV free sitting area.

Review 72:1. Location 2. Friendly staff 3. Very comfortable Mattress 4. Showers excellent

Review 73:Floors in the halls near bedrooms, didn't soften foot treads, even when trying to tiptoe.

Review 74:Great position very close to the town and easy walk to the sea.

Review 75:V small attic room meant a long climb too. Beds low and under eaves. Very hot at night. No wifi available

Review 76:Lots of things to do for young families and large communal TV lounge. Staff friendly and v helpful. Good value

Review 77:Bed (and having to make your own), size of room, being unable to open windows as very hot when we stayed.

Review 78:Staff, breakfast, location, communal spaces including games room and dining room.
