Reviews for Hotel Ostrea

Review 1:This hotel was expensive and there was nothing extra to warrant the cost. Breakfast was at best mediocre. Staff were impersonnel compared to other places we stayed.

Review 2:Room is very small as is bathroom. Would make more sense to have queen bed in the room.Mattress very firm. Unlike other rooms we had during our 2 weeks in Croatia, no comfy mattress topper here. Restaurant owned by hotel nearby not worth the time or cost it took for dinner.

Review 3:The location on water was excellent and proximity to the Ston walls can't be beat. Staff was very pleasant. View from room lovely. Very clean. Breakast buffet was good.

Review 4:Extremely overpriced. For the same price you could have an amazing house or spectacular room offered by a private individual. We were "welcomed" by an inept person who was rude and gave us no help. The room did not have most of the services it claims (no Wifi, not much view, AC did not work, TV would not turn on, shower door wouldn't close so water everywhere, etc. etc.). The hotel staff offered no information on anything, after our "welcomer" gruffly pointed off in the distance and said "room not in hotel, just go over there" and did not give us a key, show us the room, nothing, despite this being the most expensive place we stayed in Croatia (by double). Horrible service, except to direct you to their own overpriced restaurant, when there are nicer cheaper options nearby. Worst place we stayed in Croatia but most expensive.

Review 5:It was in a pretty location. The room was okay.

Review 6:Wifi did not work at all in the room. The signal was too weak. It worked fine elsewhere. Our friends were staying with us and they had similar problems in their room.

Review 7:Excellent facilities and staff with great surroundings. Loved the character of the hotel.

Review 8:Staff was rather unfriendly, and generally the hotel markets itself as luxurious but is not at all (room is small, bed not very comfortable, only a tiny window in our room...). Perfectly fine for our one-night stay, but far below the expectations we had based on other reviews and the hotel description

Review 9:Location is great, in a small village with a great setting. Breakfast was good, in particular since we could enjoy it on the beautiful shady terrace in front of the hotel

Review 10:A shutter came off its hinges as we opened our window within the first few minutes of being in our room. The manager berated us and kept telling us that it was not "normal!" To which we agreed. It was only after I showed him our shutters in the room that he pulled one of the shutters' anchors out of the facade, and explained that the same thing happened to another couple a year or so back. He then told us all shutters had to remain closed during our stay (no view) and tried to charge us $50 Euro upon check-out... which we refused to pay. At breakfast, the waitress took away our menus as we sat down. We asked for coffee and about the buffet and were told that the breakfast was "x" amount and more or less too expensive for us. It was not until we explained that we were staying at the hotel, that she treated us as paying customers.

Review 11:Great location, comfortable room.

Review 12:Weak wifi. No hot water in the shower (warm but not hot)

Review 13:Love the location and their restaurant, great food. Good breakfast too. Beautiful view from the room.

Review 14:The wifi is less than impressive in parts of the building.

Review 15:The whole atmosphere is one of being invited to stay in a family home. The location on the quay at Mali Ston is wonderful. The staff are very helpful

Review 16:There is no internet except in the tiny reception area, contrary to what's advertised. The AC also wasn't very powerful, leaving the guest rooms quite warm room in the sweltering July heat. This was one of the more expensive places we stayed in Croatia, but unfortunately was also one of the least comfortable.

Review 17:Location

Review 18:The only negative was that the wifi did not work however, you could easily pop over to the restaurant next door!

Review 19:Very clean, quaint hotel which made you feel right at home and part of the family. They were very accommodating - even ironed our clothes free of charge. Yelena was fantastic and went the extra mile with everything you requested. We especially loved our delicious complimentary biscuits! The whole experience was very calm and soothing.

Review 20:bed was a bit stiff

Review 21:Location was perfect, right on the water, right next to an entrance to the wall, and right next to the most famous and greatest restaurant in the area. Breakfast was luxurious and ample

Review 22:The compulsory bib made me look like a geriatric patient

Review 23:The tranquil seaside location an oasis away from the nearby busy road to the isles is stunning. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the roooms are fine, the food in the connected restaurant is great especially the oysters and the breakfast is good (be sure to ask for your eggs)

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:Location very peaceful and beautiful on quayside. Friendly staff, nothing was to much trouble. Ajoining restaurant served some of the best food we have ever had! Reasonably priced for location and would recommend.

Review 26:I found nothing to complain about here!

Review 27:Hotel Ostrea can't be beat for beauty, serenity, good food, hospitality can't be beat for beauty, serenity, good food, hospitality and making friends. I wanted to move there!

Review 28:it was prior to the real tourist season so it was probably even more lovely than it might have been if there were lots of tourists in that relatively small town/village

Review 29:Staff was excellent and very friendly Rooms are decorated in 1950s style but they were clean, shower was hot and location was beautiful. If you want. Quiet village setting and want to visit the oyster beds this is the place for an overnight so you can drink some wine and relax

Review 30:The friendliness of the staff, the comfort of the room, the plentiful breakfast. The restaurants next door are great value for money, and offer exquisite food.

Review 31:You will hear every creek, cough and door opening of your neighbor. They should move the bed to the outside wall and the dresser with a tapestry hanging on the inside wall to help deaden some of the noise. Their restaurant doesn't like Solo travelers.

Review 32:Beautiful Hotel over looking the water. Stay on the second floor for nice big windows over looking the water.

Review 33:Free wifi in the public area was not available.

Review 34:Clean, comfortable rooms in a quiet, picturesque setting. Great customer service and good breakfast. Just next door to a fabulous seafood restaurant and near one of the entrances to the Ston Wall.

Review 35:The walk up the wall is not for the feint of heart.

Review 36:Quaint and quiet nature of this lovely retreat. The incredible wall and the great vistas as you climbed the walls. Some of the best oysters we have ever tasted. A really neat location!

Review 37:Our room was very small. We didn't even take our suitcases out of our car; no room.

Review 38:Location next to the water is excellent. The restaurant next door is not to be missed. The entire proximity of the hotel is most unusual.

Review 39:Hotel Ostrea is a lovely small old hotel, in a great location. Lovely decor and the rooms were a good size. The hotel is right on the waters edge so swimming is available. Good restaurants "sea food" right next door. Walking distance to the old wall. Mali Ston is much nicer than Ston.

Review 40:Staff were surly, room was small and decor tired. Wifi only in lobby, breakfast very average and smell of sewage came in whiffs as eat breakfast outside. Mali Ston definitely only for 1 night stay. Orebic at end of peninsula much nicer.

Review 41:They do great cakes in the afternoon in the cafe below.

Review 42:The wifi did not work...

Review 43:The hotel was overall nice with breakfast included and a joint restaurant famous for mussels and oysters. We would recommend it as a nice place to stay on the way up or down from Split to Dubrovnik / vis versa.

Review 44:The bed squeaked somewhat and the rooms were quite expensive, and I think we were in the cheapest ones!

Review 45:Mali Ston is beautiful, and the hotel is perfectly situated. The accompanying restaurant is quite good too. It's close enough (about a 15 minute drive) to the Prapratno ferry for Mljet to make it a good staging point.

Review 46:Hotel is a bit tired and not everything works. Air conditioner uncertain(but at least there was one!) No hot water on our second night. Coldshowers are not my thing. No elevator and steep steps to negotiate everytime one went in or out. We left out bags in the car and operated onehandful at a time for baggage. Worked O.K.

Review 47:The location, perfect for a stop between Split and Dubrovnik. We stayedtwo nights and explored the fascinating Peljesac peninsula with itswineries and charming seaside holiday places. Seafood restaurants weregood but the tiny oysters not nearly as delicious as our own. We had afun time looking about Ston also. Generous breakfasts. Very comfortableterrace for sitting and watching the bay and the boats.

Review 48:- Flooding from the drain under the sink in the bathroom when running the shower. - We opened the mini-bar and almost vomited from the smell that came out. - Staff was pleasant enough...when we could find them...took searching in order to find staff members throughout the day. The hotel looks like it was probably worth the expensive price at one point in time...but seems a little run down since.

Review 49:- Air Conditioning - Location of Hotel - View from the bedroom

Review 50:The rooms have no balcony, but that is due to the fact that it's an old building.

Review 51:Idyllic, quiet location at the seafront. Clean rooms, friendly staff and a nice breakfast. Excellent oysters and seafood in restaurant Boota ... within walking distance.

Review 52:There are a lot of steps to climb with your bags if you get a room on the 2th floor.

Review 53:Friendly staff and just 20 m to the sea. It is a very small village but there are 3-4 restaurants.

Review 54:The best view to wake up to. Quiet and serene. I'll be back :)

Review 55:Old bed that creaked whenever you moved and the bathroom was run down.

Review 56:small windows so limited view.

Review 57:good breakfast. Small room windows, so not so much sea view, the view we had was amazing.

Review 58:Friendly staff and beautiful location. The restaurant next door had the best black risotto ever!

Review 59:Lovely location!

Review 60:A/C didn't work

Review 61:Children in an annex building in a room with little light

Review 62:Lovely location, friendly staff, linked to a good restaurant, rooms nicely appointed.

Review 63:Very good restaurant. Oysters are the speciality.

Review 64:The wifi signal was very weak.

Review 65:Great location of the hotel, breakfast was fabulous and the staff was excellent.

Review 66:Everything was ok...basic ok

Review 67:Location..view on the water..quiet

Review 68:Fabulous location and view

Review 69:Too Remote

Review 70:Very Quiet

Review 71:Water shower not hot

Review 72:Nice romantic rooms with great view on the coastline / island. Good breakfast and nice staff

Review 73:The staff The room The breakfast The price

Review 74:The Town

Review 75:Amazing Location Good Staff Nice Breakfast

Review 76:Might be difficult to get to if you don't hade your own transport.

Review 77:Location, great, and so peaceful after the crowded touristy towns of Dubrovnik and Trogir. Liked it so much we went back. Nice food in local restaurants, comfortable beds, pleasant staff. Car parking. A special place.

Review 78:Local restaurants very expensive. Hotel dining not operating early in the season.

Review 79:Quiet village with the sea 15m from the hotel. Warm water, 2 restaurants nearby and on the edge of the wine country , diving areas and access to the islands by cheap ferry.

Review 80:Very charming small cosy hotel overlooking the sea and oyster beds. Friendly and helpful staff. It's sister restaurant is also excellent with delicious daily fresh seafood. Plus they let us use some clunker bikes to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Review 81:Excellent location - very quiet but just what we wanted. Lots of things to see and do within easy driving distance.

Review 82:While typical for some parts of Europe, the rooms were a bit small.

Review 83:The location is excellent and very close to the water.
