Reviews for Thompsons Arms

Review 1:Arrived 3pm to building work and noise which stopped at 7pm as I went to complain to the landlord, who said well it's stopped now!landlady asked, would we like to move ?and we said no. Landlord bought us a drink and said 'we're quits'! We went out for a meal came back to a party directly below are room which went on for some time. In the morning we went down to a good English breakfast but the experience was not one we would wish to repeat.

Review 2:The cottages attached to the pub where very nice very comfortable the landlord took us to a wedding about 5 miles away in his car and picked us up, will be going back.

Review 3:Yapping dogs (owners seemingly not able to stop them) early morning and evening. Did not do evening meals, which is odd for a pub that does rooms, but the Carpenters Arms half mile away has very good food, beer and staff.

Review 4:Breakfasts were very tasty Staff very good

Review 5:A bit noisy being very close to a busy road.

Review 6:Excellent hearty breakfast with proper sausages. Friendly and helpful owners. Lovely spacious yet cosy, lean and tastefully decorated room.

Review 7:The location was perfect, close to York and Castle Howard. We had a comfortable stay in one of the cottages and our son and daughter-in-law stayed in one of the rooms.

Review 8:Nothing bad at all.

Review 9:When our toddler showed an interest in one of the cats, they very kindly brought him a puppy to stroke as well! Lovely hospitality.

Review 10:Shower head could of been bigger, but not a big problem.

Review 11:The room was better than most places iv stayed in before and the bathroom was so nice and warm

Review 12:£20+ in a taxi back from York is a little steep (but not if there are a few of you to share it) but it's worth mentioning/considering if you're a single traveller...Otherwise, can't fault anything else.

Review 13:Room was lovely and clean with en-suite and just above the pub (which doesn't appear to be open during the day) and located in a lovely village. Stuart, looked after us very well and the locals are most friendly. The breakfast was lovely too.

Review 14:The fact the toilet hadn't been flushed when we got there so room smelled. Staff were a bit on the sarcastic side. Never even met the owners wife she stayed hidden an never greated us for £90 a night I at least expect a hello!!

Review 15:Nothing teally

Review 16:The owners were so friendly and welcoming , nothing was too much trouble. The cottage itself was lovely, if basic, but served our purpose of a little hideaway!

Review 17:As also reported shame we could not stay longer. ( Work Commitment )

Review 18:Nice country style atmosphere, warm welcome and great attention to detail in the room. Breakfast was typical country style high quality.

Review 22:great holiday cottage. We only stayed for one night but I must say that the owners were very helpful but at the same time left us to our own devices which we appreciated the privacy.

Review 23:Cottage was to small for a family with a young child. Booked a doubleroom and was given a twin, even though I rang prior to booking . Bedroomwas verry small and not enough room for our travel cot . Didnt want tohave to zip beds together or move sets of draws on holiday. Was told mytoddler could sleep in the kitchen next to the oven even though I saidshe can climb out of her cot . Not even 50 % refund was given. Did notstop here ,spoilt the last part of our holiday. Owner said we did nottalk to him about the problems and just left so thats why we are notgetting a refund !!!!.not the truth .

Review 24:Nice courtyard

Review 25:Scaffolding outside my window. Tv that only showed one channel. I had to retune the hole television. Sleeping right above the bar when there was a live band on. The dead mouse on the landing. I think the people who have given great reviews about this place will have stayed in there cottages which were separate from the Inn and looked really nice.

Review 26:The room i had was good and spacious. Nice clean bathroom. The very family friendly dog. The breakfast, with proper sausages.

Review 27:I liked everything about my stay.

We had dinner in York but did enjoy a lovely breakfast at this accommodation. Very friendly place and would definately stay again.

Review 94:The emergency light in the room emits a bright light which made it difficult for me to sleep. I kept waking up thinking it was daylight. I am used to a really dark room so this may not be a problem for everyone.

Review 96:Radiators need bleeding. There is a lot of air trapped in the system. I forgot to mention it to the proprietor on leaving.

The cottage was spotless, bed very comfy and full cooked breakfast was just what the hangover required! Thank you very much.

Review 99:Nothing really. You would need your own transport if you wish to go out in the evening as Taxies could be expensive if they have to travel out from York.

Review 100:Very friendly helpfull staff. spotless clean and comfortable room. A good breakfast which set you up for the day. Though on this occasion I was not going in to York, park & ride facilities are not far away if you wish to spend the day in York.

Review 102:The friendliness of the owner and his family who invited me to coffee in his kitchen. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
