Reviews for Meadow Cottage Guest House
Review 1:The only negative at all was that the WiFi signal didn't reach our room but we had already read that from other reviews and didn't desperately need it anyway.
Review 2:Lovely place in a lovely quiet location but not far off the main road either. The place was very quiet and peacefull and we hardly noticed anyone else there except at breakfast. Great self service breakfast with lots of choice: cereal, breads, yogurts and cakes. Nice patio and garden including a large field our dog could run around on.
Review 3:It's not that we don't like it, it was just when other stayers arrived, we could hear luggage being wheeled early hours (1/2am) wooden floor, so can't be helped.
Review 4:Cottage was really lovely & cosy. Kitchen is amazing and breaky was one point.. Wish we had more time there. Will be back for sure.
Review 5:Arrived at 10:30 pm. The location was in a country lane. The car was full. It was so dark I could not find the entrance. I was so frustrated that I went home to Torquay.
Review 6:We liked the cleanliness and the amount of food left for us but we're leaving at 5am so only had cereal. Whenever we use Bristol Airport we definitely will be staying here again
Review 7:we arrived late after 11pm in the evening and good information was provided to gain access to the cottage, however we never met anyone the following day, there was no one to cook a breakfast and only a note saying to help ones self to the food that was in the kitchen, we saw a lady who came and went but she did not interact with us and we left at 10am without checking out
Review 8:Only a minor issue but I couldn't find a high chair for the baby at breakfast time and there were no staff to ask.
Review 9:It was conveniently close to the airport and the proprietor didn't mind us arriving late at night, even though there is no 24hr reception.
Review 10:The wifi coverage did not reach our room, having said this, it was no hardship to go through to the dining room and sit quietly there and use wifi.
Review 11:This guest house is a stunning example of its type, the renovations are sympathetic to the building. Warm, welcoming and two lovely dogs in residence to play with. We stayed in room 8 at the end of the cottage, very quiet and lovely big room, all the rooms are similarly furnished so I will try to get a different one next time I visit, just so I can enjoy another lovely view over the beautiful garden.
Review 12:Poor welcome on arrival.I paid more for the room, for a slightly bigger than normal bed, but that was it. No mirror in the room so only had a face mirror above sink in the bathroom to use which caused difficulties if one was using the shower.Toiletries? A used pump soap for hands and shower, so glad we took my own. Grit on and in bed so had to sweep clean before use. Toast or cereal was breakfast which you made and cleared up yourself. I requested a view- a paved terrace looking at the untidy patio table and chairs was not what we were expecting.
Review 13:A very comfy bed.
Review 14:The room hadn't been cleaned properly. We found a number of items which had been left by previous guests.
Review 15:Comfortable bed, crisp white linen, fluffy pillows. Lovely peaceful setting
Review 16:Nothing. Especially good value.
Review 17:Cosy, comfortable bed & bathroom incredibly close to the airport. The self-serve breakfast suits me fine, excellent selection of toasts, cereals, fruits and yoghurt, juices & hot drinks.
Review 18:The room was very dark even with all the lights on and the impression was gloomy. The bathroom wash basin plug mechanism was rusty and had broken.
Review 19:Proximity to airport.
Review 20:It was a shame no one on site on arrival. The young lady who arrived was pleasant but really didn't seem to know what she was doing and no help at all to get the heater working in my elderly friends room. Breakfast was fine for a self service buffet breakfast, but again no one around so the house which was so beautiful did not have a heart to it. It was a good place to stay, with a friendly face around it would have been exceptional.
Review 21:Beautiful room, very quiet, lovely location
Review 22:Breakfast. Lack of availability of owners. Poor information when owner not available.
Review 23:Location and gardens lovely. Room clean. Hot hot water in shower.
Review 24:Very close to silver parking. Excellent advice for local restaurant for dinner. Beautiful character property. DIY breakfast in fab kitchen perfect for early morning flights
Review 25:Self service breakfast was a surprise but had everything we needed in a lovely country style dining room.
Review 26:Quiet setting and easy distance from Bristol Airport. House had real character and rooms were quiet even with at least 8 guests at breakfast.
Review 27:Very dark. Tiny room. Couldn't get in until 5.30 without contact with owner to arrange. As we were travelling we didn't have that chance so had to wait.
Review 28:Convenient for Bristol airport. Very pretty house.
Review 29:I had only booked for one night. Wish I could have stayed longer
Review 30:On arrival I was blow away with the building. Absolutely stunning. Warm welcome on arrival, thorough with tge tour and breakfast options. Very holy feeling, very close to the location we required.
Review 31:only contact with staff on first day . No other time . self service breakfast notes on doors and shelves . where things were . but no staff around for help .
Review 32:location good . even thou close to the airport no noise
Review 33:As a lone female traveller arriving in the dark I was very unhappy to be told by text to 'come in quietly' with no one to greet me (and I was told I was running late even though I arrived shortly after 9pm off a flight and they say check in is up to 9.30pm). Saw no one before leaving next morning. I had to find my way round the back in pitch black and then into a room where the window had been left open with the light on meaning there were numerous daddy long legs, spiders and other flying insects to clear out before I could even sit on the bed. There was an unpleasant smell from the bathroom presumably from the uncleared shower drain running across the floor. Beautiful setting but very unhappy with my visit.
Review 34:Unwashed glasses in the bedroom. Bathroom dirty....wet floor, minuscule shower cubicle looked dirty, so preferred not to use it.Toilet roll holder hanging off. Owners evidently not interested in meeting their paying guests- property had a transit camp feeling.
Review 35:The initial overall impression of the property when first driving in.
Review 36:The whole experience was excellent. We travelled late at night from Madrid, not knowing the area. We were given clear instructions on booking in late, breakfast was good and the owner friendly. We were very pleased and would recommend it to anyone.
Review 37:Booked a family room for 4 but was given 2 rooms and the four year old and seven year old were put in a room in the attic away from their parents. Dog poo was on the lawns where children were expected to play!! There was not enough tables and chairs for everyone for breakfast so had people standing by us waiting for us finish, no staff around at breakfast, had to hunt in cupboards to find things. Kettle in bedroom had a broken handle with the cables showing, no PAT test since 2011. Owners not available but received a text saying "other people are happy with here". Will not be returning.
Review 38:Double room was tiny and had an unpleasant smell. Found the version of help yourself breakfast strange, and choices were not interesting. I did not enjoy for raging around the kitchen and dining room to find what I needed, neither did I expect to have to clean the table before use.
Review 39:Looked lovely from the outside
Review 40:There is definitely an issue with the bathroom and ventilation in the double room. Felt uncomfortable not seeing anyone but guests expected to wander around the owners kitchen helping themselves to breakfast and then tidying away ?
Review 41:Beautiful area, close to the airport. Lovely buildings and grounds.
Review 42:Room under eaves A little claustrophobic and no hot chocolate for non tea or coffee drinkers. Unable to wait for breakfast due to my schedule but it looked well presented
Review 43:Helpful text message instructions for late arrivals
Review 44:They have two dogs on site let them out 9am to 9pm,My wife & son do not like dogs, because of that we couldn't enjoy relax on the garden or out side the room.
Review 45:poor local transport, no local taxi availible on Mondays, poor mobile signal so cant call around. WIFI signal, was weak , no house phone. poor self service breakfast, all gone by 0900, nobody around to advise during breakfast, had clear own table to use and when finished my toast and coffee, very dirty behind bed and units,
Review 46:the building looks very nice from the outside, only a couple of miles from airport. so much potential if the owners would actually want to be around and take some interest at breakfast.
Review 47:Meadow Cottage is in my top 5 places I've ever stayed. The room we have was so clean and comfortable. The rest of the property was spotless and very homely. I will stay there again but for longer. Thank you Annette!!!
Review 48:Greeting from owner, not warm and friendly, broken put up bed that my son sat on, dog poo all over the lawn, blocked shower tray, nowhere to put toiletry bags, awful, do it yourself breakfast that was basically sugary cereals rubbish croissants, bread and low fat yoghurts. Wifi didn't work. Not a nice smell in some parts of the house, no extra niceties like biscuits, or different beverages, no little shampoos etc..
Review 49:The girl that worked there was lovely and apologetic, my bed was very comfy.
Review 50:Poor wi fi, I could not get a signal on my smart phone. I believe this can be considered normal in this part of the country, but should be taken into account. Continental breakfast only.
Review 51:This was our third stay and accommodation of choice. Relaxed, it's almost like being at home. Rooms are traditional and comfortable, the garden is a delight, two very friendly dogs who enjoy playing.
Review 52:Couldn't find green tea or herbal teas. The room was a bit compact.
Review 53:Very quiet, rural location. Charming building, helpful check-in staff. Lovely dogs in the garden!
Review 54:And that's where it ended - no welcome, no room, and it was up ricketty stairs despite agreeing to a disabled room. lots of things falling off the walls such as bathroom fittings and electric sockets - opps - and breakfast was an absolute disgrace.
Review 55:Lovely location and from the outside it looked really nice.
Review 56:Breakfast was a bit lazy, food placed out the night before and help yourself in the kitchen. No option for a cooked breakfast.
Review 57:The gardens and land were lovely and great for the dogs and children.
Review 58:The rooms were not spacious. Bathrooms were very small. Access to the property was not marked clearly from the main road. Difficult access for disabled people.
Review 59:One night as a stop over in Bristol on our way to Cornwall. We were a big family group with 80 yr old parents, four adults and three children including an infant. Very spacious gardens, very quiet surroundings, beautiful landscape. Friendly host. Ample parking space. Close to Bristol airport.
Review 60:stair case a bit narrow/ steep for taking cases down
Review 61:The country situation so near airport. Good breakfast. Trust given to guests free run of kitchen facilities.
Review 62:The ..twin room bathroom ground floor, has wet area for shower, but the covered drain in its floor gave rise to a "drain smell" Low doorways in places can be unforgiving.
Review 63:Comfortable beds, good breakfast, easy access and parking. On quiet local lane.
Review 64:Room far to small, as was the bathroom. Dirty rugs and cobwebs in bathroom. Noise from upstairs room as footsteps was most disturbing. No apparent insulation. Not even a chair to sit on.
Review 65:Breakfast facilities were good
Review 66:Running out of fresh coffee at breakfast. Breakfast good - but is little hit and miss as we stayed for 4 nights.
Review 67:Sitting on terrace in beautiful surrounds. Two gorgeous dogs. Great for basing self for Mendips.
Review 68:Didn't see any staff at during our 2night stay, apart from the lady who asked for our money as soon as we walked in the door. Breakfast poor and room dirty.Handy for
Review 69:Location,pretty house and gardens.
Review 70:Check in is very late (5:30) The breakfast is self service and continental, which I was not expecting.
Review 71:The rooms are pretty and well appointed Very serene atmosphere Good facilities and stunning garden
Review 72:Absolutely no room for clothes, suitcase, or standing room, but functional.
Review 73:Lovely old, rural property. Very basic, small room, but bed and linen spotless and new
Review 74:Some might be disappointed with the lack of clothes storage but the hanging rail was fine for us. Likewise the serve yourself breakfast suited us but might be a problem for others. We asked to be moved from the ground floor room nearest reception, as it was a bit noisy and were happy to have a first floor room instead. Overall, we felt that Meadow Cottage was good value and we would stay there again.
Review 75:The room was 'cosy' but tastefully decorated and in keeping with the characterful period stone & thatched roofed property. The owner's dogs and cat were welcoming too. We didn't meet the owners but their staff were on hand to check us in & out.
Review 76:Owner recommended a great place to get dinner in a nearby village. This guest house offers a happy, quiet base from which to explore the tranquil, historic countryside nearby. It is also within easy reach of both Bristol and the coast around Weston Super Mare.
Review 77:no on there in charge at breakfast which felt very strange. Would prefer to see the owner even if only to say 'good morning'
Review 78:room and the lovely greeting from the two resident dogs!
Review 79:Maybe slightly pricey.
Review 80:Location near airport and has a very tranquil setting. Arrived late and was able to check myself in, although I never met the owners they are obviously very trusting. If I am in area again I would definetly stay here again
Review 81:Getting a text saying 'what went down the loo?' In a clearly 'it's your fault' manner, despite us notifying them of the issue. We did get a further text absolving us of blame a few hours later, but as we had behaved impeccably we weren't that impressed.
Review 82:Room, everything, good in the main.
Review 83:We were asked to keep the noise down on our arrival as it would be late, which we obviously did anyway. We got to bed approx 2345 and were awoken by the arrival of another guest dragging their toe along suitcase across the courtyard. We were then woken up at approx 0800 by other guests, as our room (13) was directly above the dining area and the patio area. Other guests were shouting to their partners in bedroom windows and we could hear every single word of everyone in the dining room, chairs dragging, babies crying, general chit chat! When we went down for breakfast we found that it was a "help yourself" and wash up yourself affair that no one had told us and we're not met by any staff. All we saw was a sign saying help yourself and please be out of your room by 1000. There was actually no food left as the earlier noisy guests had cleaned the place out and nothing had been replaced ! With no staff available to complain to we actually just left to go and get breakfast elsewhere. We didn't get in until 2330, although your not allowed to check in before 1700 anyway. So essentially we paid £84.00 for 10 hours in a noisy room and no breakfast !!! That to us is NOT cost effective ! We will not be staying again OR recommending this place.
Review 84:Pre arrival the Staff were friendly and helpful. We had to telephone ahead to ask if we could self check in as we wouldn't be arriving until 2330. Very helpful and sent through instructions of how to get in etc and the room was waiting for us.
Review 85:Bathroom small but functional. Quite noisy pipes.
Review 86:Home away from home. Very friendly welcome. Loved the labs!! Very comfortable. Spacious roooms. Great location.
Review 87:Small bathroom, poor quality breakfast, croissants needs to be .better quality also marmalade and jams, otherwise ok.
Review 88:Location, beautifull, lovely house full of character, the beds, very comfortable and clean the room was a little small.Very handy if you have a dog,as there is a lovely garden, and two resident Labradors to greet you.
Review 89:Nothing bad. There is free wifi in the kitchen/dining area - due to the nature of the building it doesn't reach the rooms. I'd take the farmhouse over the wifi any day!!
Review 90:Felt very welcome on arrival and shown to lovely room. Owner was very helpful and gave us details of a local pub to eat in and organised airport transfers for us!
Review 91:Room was only suitable for a very small person. Have to kneel down to look in the only very small mirror which is above the sink. There is not a chair or a stool or a table, or even a bedside table, there is no wardrobe or drawer or even one measly coat hanger!!!
Review 92:Quiet and convenient.
Review 93:Noisy plumbing! A grinding pump and leaking, dripping faucet made it difficult to stay asleep.
Review 94:Nice location, very pretty with interesting architecture in a lovely rural setting.
Review 95:Breakfast is a free for all, if you're not up early you'll miss out on croissants etc and have to make room on an already used table.
Review 96:Comfortable bed, lovely room and wonderfully peaceful situation, but, close to lots of attractions and the airport
Review 97:during renovation, they overlooked ventilation for the shower. this will result in mildew (odor) problems which are already beginning. Low doorways which are not always necessary (ie. could have been avoided.)
Review 98:atmosphere, location, area.
Review 99:Breakfast was completely DIY, and as we were not the first to get up, some things had run out, tables were dirty and I would have loved a nice coffee with hot milk!
Review 100:Really convenient for Bristol airport and a beautiful property with stunning views. Staff, when there, very helpful.
Review 101:Missing hairdryer and hangers !
Review 102:Quaint cottage, very well decorated, room was very small but comfortable. Free unlimited access to wifi in the lobby.
Review 103:The option of a cooked breakfast would be make the stay a solid 10/10
Review 104:Our room way beautiful and we Really enjoyed staying in such a beautiful scenic place and I would return just to explore the grounds and take in the amazing sights
Review 105:Breakfast was a bit hit and miss - the owner was away and we were left very much to our own devices. Didn't like to go poking around the (absolutely gorgeous) kitchen so didn't get tea or coffee with our breakfast but it was adequate with choice of cereals, bagels, croissants and bread for toasting. At 07.45 I would have expected someone to be about.
Review 106:Easy to find, rural yet convenient for Bristol Airport. Quiet and visually appealing.
Review 107:We liked the character, it was comfortable and warm. Breakfast was amazing you could have whatever you wanted and plenty of it.
Review 108:This cottage is gorgeous and set in beautiful countryside yet so near the airport.
Review 109:Breakfast - almost nothing, white bread, cereal, a few yoghurts and a bowl of apples. no seats. About 25 people for breakfast, not enough places to sit. Staff??? Are there any. No one there at 9 PM when I arrived. No one there the next morning at breakfast wifi. Didn't work. room 12. A tiny cramped attic, slanted roof. pillow on bed only inches for a roofor beam. I hit my knuckles off the roof taking off my shirt.
Review 110:Location. Character property.
Review 111:Let yourself in to your comfy room. Owner will text you the code In the morning feel right at home and make your own breakfast , Everything is provided. Nice pub grub down the road a few miles,
Review 112:Very poor breakfast. Only cereals, bread and jarred jams that other people had used before. Our daughter was sick after nutella that was long open.
Review 113:Location, building, decor
Review 114:We had had a very traumatic day and picked Meadow Cottage for its proximity to Bristol airport. We thought the ad said there was a shuttle service to the airport but this turned out to be an expensive taxi. We were also surprised to be asked to pay extra for using another bed in our room - we thought the price was for the room and whatever facilities were in it. Shower room/loo was incredibly small especially contrasting with the large bedroom. We did not feel we were made particularly welcome.
Review 115:House was beautiful and very handy for Bristol airport. Lovely location and young student assistant was very helpful. Breakfast was serve yourself but excellent and the kitchen and dining area were superb.
Review 116:nothing was bad
Review 117:very good room with everything we needed for an overnight stay before flying out on our holiday. The breakfast was really good plenty of choice and in a great diningroom/kitchen
Review 118:Waiting on the doorstep for half an hour with no apologies. The smallest room with even smaller toilet and shower. Self serve breakfast which is fine if I had been told. Going through somebody's cupboards to find food is most odd. Toast and cereal is fine but not for that price !!
Review 119:Erm, I'm thinking !!!!
Review 120:When we arrived it was dark and raining, there were not many signs to direct you where to go and it was so dark, we could not see the steps leading to the house and it was not obvious which door to go to. The automatic light only comes on when you already stumbled your way to the door and didn't stay on long enough to go where you needed to go.
Review 121:It was a lovely quirky place, made feel very welcome, we had everything we needed
Review 122:My Daughter and i loved this B&B, we liked the quirkiness of it and found it very charming. We wished we had more time to explore the gardens and to sit and admire.
Review 123:The turn into the car park from the narrow lane is very tight. It is possible, but difficult to negotiate for larger cars.
Review 124:The cottage has been refurbished to a high standard in a period style - very attractive. Facilities are modern and worked well - very comfortable. We loved the big open, self-service kitchen & dining area for breakfast - worked very well for our young family and made us feel 'at home'. It was very useful to have WiFi available (although this is limited to one area). Our kids liked the very friendly dogs!
Review 125:The bathroom was a bit small.
Review 126:The cottage, its surrounding and location. The self service breakfast. Nice and big kitchen. Cozy dining area. Friendly owner and staff.
Review 127:Very dusty in the room and had three halves of dead butterflies on the floor!!!! Breakfast was do it yourself and I wasn't sure how long the cereal and jams had been left on the side so decided not to risk them.
Review 128:The location to Bristol airport was brilliant and the bed was very comfy.
Review 129:There was no Internet and we had chosen this place because it advertised internet. The shower had no cold water so we couldn't use it.
Review 130:It was clean and had character.
Review 131:They advertised wifi but no matter where we wandered we couldn't get it which was annoying as I wanted to tell my daughter we'd arrived in the country. The bathrooms are tiny. The floors are freezing. For one night it was an adventure but I wouldn't stay more than one night.
Review 132:We arrived after 10pm and had been given perfect instructions about how to let ourselves in. The whole place had a romantic old world feel to it. The breakfast was serve yourself with an excellent selection. A convenient place to stay for a late flight into Bristol as it is only a few minutes away.
Review 133:the room had no heating and for a foggy November night this was a problem. the bedside mats were filthy I didn't want to take my shoes off and would not shower in the very small bathroom.breakfast was a do it yourself and not much of it good job we were only there for 1 night
Review 134:the building was very quaint
Review 135:The B&B is situated just a few minutes away from the airport. It is a beautifully restored country house with a charming thatched roof. I would highly recommend the place and next time we fly from Bristol I know where I will be staying
Review 136:Hostess seemed to find customers a nuisance. Still it didn't advertise a warm welcome, so fair enough. But it DID advertise WiFi - which it does not, practically, have.
Review 137:Location, lovely old building, comprehensive self-serve continental breakfast options.
