Reviews for The Rock Inn

Review 1:Nothing.

Review 2:We stayed in the Master Robert suite in the week before Christmas. The hotel decor was superb and the room was very well finished and spacious. Even better was the quality of the Dinner!

Review 3:Be warned of the location, it isn't easy to find and is down a tiny country lane.

Review 4:Very cute B&B in lovely setting, amazing restaurant for both dinner and breakfast- whole place had great warm atmopshere and loved all the little cosy rooms and chill areas.

Review 5:Absolutely nothing to declare!

Review 6:Excelent dinner in an atmosphere full of charme and good taste. The sound of the clocks is still lingering softly in our memory. I don't know her name, but the girl who served us in the bar was one of the nicest that I have met in this trade. If, by any reason, we didn't like the place, we would go back just for her. Congratulations.

Review 7:The most comfortable bed I have slept in in years. Cozy room. Excellent food. Friendly, helpful staff. It was a wonderful stay. Would definitely return.

Review 8:nothing

Review 9:very good location the rock was perfect the staff were excellent and the little touches like having the bed turned down at night all made the stay so good.

Review 10:Wish we had a king sized bed. Not used to doubles now! Hard to tell from website if any kingsize on offer - lesson learnt when staying in hotels - need to ask!

Review 11:Beautiful hotel - wonderful food - attentive and helpful staff.

Review 12:It was like stepping back in time, such a lovely place, absolutely unique..dining room was just stunning in the evenings, with just the flicker of the candles and chimes from the clock..beautiful place to stay.

Review 13:Wifi was not v good and needs updating but that is a minor point.

Review 14:Lovely decor and set up. Helpful, cheerful staff. Lovely room Evening meal was above average. Good location for Dartmoor walks

Review 15:Bed too soft for me.

Review 16:Fabulous location with short classic Dartmoor walks and scenery right from the door and great relaxed homely atmosphere. The food was simple and well done

Review 17:Although bed was comfortable, joining two single beds together does not = super king size bed!

Review 18:Excellent location, perfect for walking in the area. Food was amazing!

Review 19:Staff were proactive in adjoining our rooms, which was helpfully as we were travelling with our children, ages 6 & 8. The garden across the road was perfect for letting them run off the wiggles after a day in the car.

Review 20:The staff looked after us very well especially on the Sunday when our guests arrived early and left late but we were left to enjoy the company and use the table for as long as we wished. Special request for strawberries and clotted cream was easily accommodated. In the evening a ploughmans was provided for us as we did not wish to eat dinner after a large lunch. the dog was welcome.

Review 21:As with many a la carte offerings the portions for the meal were a touch 'modest'

Review 22:Superb location, roof top suites offer idyllic views over Moors and are very comfortable.

Review 23:Found location a bit isolated but as we only stayed 2 nights and were attending a wedding nearby this was not a major problem. Our room overlooked the backyard (called Sgt Murphy -rooms named after Grand National winners). There are higher standard rooms at the top of the house - no lift.

Review 24:This is a guesthouse at Haytor Rock on the edge of the Moors. There is a bar and restaurant on the ground floor. The building is over 200 years old and about 3 miles from the nearest town. Beautiful scenery around. Service was good and friendly and the breakfast was excellent. We did not eat in the restaurant but it was very busy especially at lunch time

Review 25:Outside - Steep steps from car park making it difficult to bring in luggage. Inside - Hotel on different levels - Again lots of steps Car is a definite requirement

Review 26:Breakfast very good.

Review 27:The only thing I would say was the fish was INSANELY buttery. Felt a little ill after eating it. But other than that the food was great I also would recommend playing music in the bar...neednt be loud, just a little atmosphere!

Review 28:Beautiful location, lovely staff

Review 29:All of the experience was top notch,Rachel and myself got married thatday,it all went better than we could`ve wished!..... And THEN,we arrivedat "The Rock".....So impressed with the Building itself, andloved being able to see all of the memorabilia on display,(The commentsbook from 1902 onwards was fascinating!!) The staff were all sowelcoming, friendly, and helpful......an absolute treat of a place allround........I`d recommend it to everyone!!

Review 30:My husband felt the bar was a bit too dark where we ate dinner-it was candlelit. I quite liked it!

Review 31:The staff couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome -really lovely people. Fantastic meal in the evening-really innovative and delicious veggie options. Comfortable rooms and good shower. Fantastic breakfast-local produce-so everything tasted great!

Review 32:The evening meals in the restaurant are expensive with vegetables costing extra and it is not clear what the price of a glass of house wine was. But it is good as a treat and very convenient when staying.

Review 33:It is an excellent walking base for various walks between Haytor and Widdecombe. The bedroom was compact but well appointed with a nice rear view. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a good shower and plentiful hot water. We especially liked the' radiodram' miniature whisky and gin bottle dispenser for a nightcap in the room. The restaurant is atmospheric and the food well cooked but portions on the small side. All the staff are friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts involve a wide choice of good quality food, well cooked and are taken in a delightful conservatory decorated by some fantastic photographs of Dartmoor scenes.

Review 34:Wi-Fi very intermittent. Lack of parking for residents if you return during Lunch or Dinner times.

Review 35:Comfortable surroundings with excellent food. Good location for the Moors. Friendly but very busy staff.

Review 36:One senior staff member in particular was consistently inhospitable despite us staying and dining there for two nights. We felt most unwelcome by her frosty attitude and wondered if we'd done something wrong! We were as nice as pie to her! Some othet staff were great.

Review 37:The food and wine were excellent.

Review 38:From the moment we walked in we were felt to be welcome. The food was excellent - you must try the scallops with chorizo & black pudding as a starter. Fantastic. We asked for a 30 minute break between 1st and 2nd course which we had & was remembered on our 2nd night. The rooms were turned down at night and fresh milk available for cup of tea in the morning, Management & staff were fantastic, Highly recommended & we will go back.

Review 39:dont expect to get a signal on your phone on the wifi to be great due to the location, we didn't expect to and quite frankly it was rather nice

Review 40:fantastic hotel, beautiful location, lovely rooms, amazing food and the staff were great. I would Highly recommend this gem of a place.

Review 41:Nothing

Review 42:On a reccomendation we booked, I have to say the food was without a doubt exceptional wouldn't hesitate to book or reccomend this as a place to stay or just have a meal

Review 43:The wi-fi can be unreliable.

Review 44:The Rock Inn excels in providing great food and comfortable rooms. The bedroom was decorated to a very high standard and we slept extremely well. Good choice of food beautifully cooked.

Review 45:Room was maybe a little on the small side (with a cot) and we were right by the stairs so quite noisy in the morning. Think that was just the luck of the draw.

Review 46:Lovely location, great staff, sadly didn't get to eat at the restaurant in the evening. Great breakfast though!

Review 47:everything was great with a price to match

Review 48:The distinctive traditional Dartmoor building tastefully extended with hired across moorland fringe. The food was exceptional and although pricey was reasonable value. All the Hotel staff were polite, helpful and professional. The room and bed was comfortable and had a gin and whisky dispenser for a night cap. Parking in small car park at rear and on Street was competitive but in keeping with the moorland setting

Review 49:Lovely room with a little balcony onto a great countryside view. Dinner excellent with very pleasant staff. Peace and comfort with no loud music in the bar. A wonderful place to spend our 48th wedding anniversary.

Review 50:Shower cubicle was just about big enough for us and we're not huge people, so could be difficult for some. Dog friendly, but only allowed in conservatory part of hotel, not allowed in snug where the sofas were, we had to sit on the dining room chairs for the first evening by ourselves as no-one else sat there. We spent the next two nights out because of that.

Review 51:Room was nice, bed was very comfortable, bathroom small but adequate. Rooms cleaned each day, windows shut for us at night when we were out. Dining area in conservatory room was lovely. Staff loved our dog and were very helpful with anything we required. We stored our bikes in their locked housekeeping room, which they kindly unlocked for us when necessary. Lovely quiet area within walking distance of the Moors. Ate food I. On the first night. It was gorgeous! My hubby is very fussy and didn't like anything on their menu and they kindly made him a special dinner!

Review 52:Our room was quite small and there was a slight issue with noise of people walking along the corridor but in a very old property like this these issues are not unexpected.

Review 53:The food was very good (quality & presentation), the staff very extremely helpful and professional (they were happy to phone a few different taxi companies for us and allowed us to stay up with a bottle of wine even after the Inn had closed.) The snug room with the board games was lovely and cosy and the atmosphere of the whole Inn is really authentically traditional. We found our bed to be very comfortable and slept very well due to the lovely quiet location on the edge of Dartmoor and we enjoyed a lovely walk straight from the Inn up to Haytor rocks one morning.

Review 54:This was our second visit to the Rock Inn. It is a very romantic and lovely property. The pub/dining room are wonderful. We loved our room both times. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is delicious.

Review 55:This inn oozes charm. Delicious well-presented food both in the evening and at breakfast. Very comfortable and quiet room. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 56:The only downside I can think of is that we had the balcony room and the VERY low beams were a bit of an obsticle to be avoided especially in the middle of the night, but you have to expect these little eccentricities if you stay in an old building with character.

Review 57:Good food and accommodation. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location in the Dartmoor National Park was beautiful and convenient.

Review 58:Internet access in room was not working.

Review 59:Very friendly staff. Nice quiet atmosphere. Located in parc and close to nice walk and viewpoint. Good food. You feel at home immediately.

Review 60:Everything! The staff were excellent, very helpful and knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. The food was Superb and great value for money, extensive wine list, great service and wonderful ambience. Wifi in the bedrooms was excellent. Even though we had a small double room, the room was comfortable and clean. On the edge of Dartmoor National Park, it was so quiet. loved it! Would definitely go back.

Review 61:Our room was right opposite the checking in desk and the walls to there seemed very thin so didn't feel quite as private as it should have.

Review 62:This was a lovely place to stay and the staff were excellent. The location is ideal to explore all the surrounding areas right down to salcombe.

Review 63:It's a wonderful and quiet place, extremely friendly team, .... cute, clean and comfortable rooms, delicious food! We had 7 fantastic days....too short...

Review 64:Breakfast did not quite live up to expectations. It would have been nice to have a help yourself choice. Omelette was not good and toast was poor. It was a pity because service by staff was excellent.

Review 65:Lovely large bedroom with comfortable chairs. Bathroom facilities were excellent. Dining was excellent. Location and history of the Inn were interesting.

Review 66:We paid for the smallest room - ok, but I will pay more next time to get a bigger bed etc.

Review 67:The food!

Review 68:Very comfortable romantic stay . Excellent food, character, atmosphere and ambience just right.

Review 69:The beams were a bit low in our room - my fault for choosing it

Review 70:Food was excellent
