Reviews for Villa Kukuljica
Review 1:It suited us perfectly - loved the view, the food, the quiet seaside location (yet very close to dubrovnik), and the friendly and helpful hotel owners/staff. Our room was up 2 flights of stairs so it may not suit some people, but we loved it.
Review 2:Nothing
Review 3:The owners were lovely. Great food. Beautiful calm place to sit outside and have Anton's beautiful home made wine. Very good value for what you get.
Review 4:Broke a few slats on quite uncomfortable bed. Paid 20 euro for one basket of washing but received it back two days later folded nicely but soaking wet? ( it was raining outside was the explanation...??)
Review 5:Perfect position, simply 1/2 dozen steps to water. Fish and calamari dinner is fantastic!
Review 6:Nothing we did not like
Review 7:The location is amazing, so peaceful with beautiful lakeside view. Dubrovnik is easily accessible. Ivo and his Mum and Dad who run the villa did everything they could to make sure we had a wonderful holiday. Ivo arranged 2 day trips that we wanted to go on, we were picked up and dropped off right outside the villa, this included boat trip. The boat berthed at the villa to collect us. It was so good that we decided on the second day to book again for next year To sum up, we had a fantastic holiday at Villa Kukuljica and would highly recommend it.
Review 8:Location is perfect. Quiet, peaceful and the setting is like paradise. Family run hotel who made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived earlier than expected. The food was great and definitely excellent value for money. Hotel right on the water in a quaint village. Only 10 or so kms out of Dubrovnik so you could catch bus into city. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay there again sometime.
Review 9:Absolutely magnificent! The villa is literally a step away from the sea shore so you can dive into the water right after you've had your coffee in the morning! Quite a spectacular view... The rooms are really big, very tidy and newly furnished. It's a must for each foodie to try out the most exquisite dishes one can have here. Nevertheless, our host is a very kind, friendly and highly professional person, creating the perfect atmosphere, just perfect enough to make one wish to come back here whenever possible!
Review 10:Very difficult to catch the bus into Dubrovnik town from this small town.
Review 11:Family run business, excellent customer service. Always willing to pass on tips about the local area. Great food available on site if required. Lovely area but neccessary to have a car to visit places.
Review 12:There's nothing to object, we would totally recommend it to everyone, and go back there when in Dubrovnik.
Review 13:The hosts: Ivo is a very pleasant, educated man; and his parents are totally adorable and charming.
Review 14:We had a fantastic stay!! Such a friendly family, nothing was too much trouble! The swimming was wonderful, the room fantastic and the meals excellent . All for such a small price!! Would definitely recommend this as a place to stay outside the bustle of Dubrovnik.
Review 15:The owners are very kind persons, They are full with many helpful advice. The accomodation is close to the Adriatic Magistrale, easy to find it, but it isn't noisy. The rooms are OK.
Review 16:Nothing.
Review 17:Everything was perfect. Balcony room was large, sunny and comfortable. The owners were really kind and friendly.Amazing view. Just a little paradise!
Review 18:Nothing - we would stay longer as intended if we are not on schedule
Review 19:Very nice and helpful staff. They made the whole stay super pleasant. Recommended the places to see, gave maps and make us feel home-like. Excellent position of the place few steps from the see. Delicious food especially the dinner - worth ordering in house. The ship can take you on board to the islands directly from in front of the Vila The price is very pleasant for the level of comfort.
Review 20:This place is a real find and we would go back again. It is in Zaton Maili, the first turning to the right as you come from Dubrovnik. Ivo was the perfect host and although his parents didn’t speak English the language barrier didn’t matter , they were just so lovely in looking after us. We had a super view across the bay from our room which was sufficient for a short stay. We ate every night on the terrace. The food selection was generally, either meat, fish or vegetables but delicious, especially accompanied by Ivo’s local aperitif and local plonk. Superb value . Swimming in the sea was fantastic and only feet from the front door
Review 21:Property is a bit hard to find (on the small service road below the main road) but a great location once you find it.
Review 22:Ivo is a great host and was very friendly and accommodating to our stay.
Review 23:Ivo picked us up at the airport free of charge. He is very charismatic and wants you to have a good holiday. He showed is to our suite which had a balcony and a small fridge. The furniture in the room was old fashioned and beautifully made of wood. The whole place was very clean. The sea is less than a minute from the apartment; there are steps down to the sea which is clear enough to see small fish swimming. By the sea there is a small private seating area and shower which belongs to Villa Kukuljica. You can walk around the bay (which is not a long walk but due to the heat is not a quick walk) and go swimming at many points. There is also a small beach a few minutes walk from the apartment. Zaton Mali is very small and quiet. There is a shop approx 15 minute walk from the apartment which sold the basics and had a bakery. We ate at the villa each evening as the food was so good. Ivo's parents own the Villa and his mum does the cooking. The food is basic: each evening there is a meat, fish or vegetable dish; the quality is first class. Breakfast is really good: bread; jams; yogurt; fruit juice; tea; coffee; eggs (fried/scrambled/omelette etc).Ivo gave us advice on how to get into Dubrovnik, we chose to leave early and get the bus at approx 7.15 which cost 13 kuna. After getting the first bus, we walked into the Old Town the first day but used the Dubrovnik bus on the other days. Getting back to the apartment requires a Dubrovnik bus back to the main port and then the number 35 back (13 kuna). We were also told about the Dubrovnik card which gets you into 8 attractions in the Old Town and includes 10 bus trips. We had a really relaxing break andIvo drove us back to the airport. We were really pleased that we chose to stay in Zaton Mali rather than Dubrovnik; which while beautiful was expensive and very crowded. The owners are lovely and caring but there is a language barrier as we only speak English and they don't.
Review 24:The room was quite hot, without the airconditioning, but it was ok. It was possible the park on the street, but it was not in front of the house and when we got back from the town during the day, it was kinda crowded there.
Review 25:The host was very friendly and helpful. We got a great wine as a welcome drink (his own wine) and a coffe (not so good) before we checked out. It is also possible to order a breakfast (for 8 euro, I think, we didn't have it) or dinner (16 euro – we had a great fish and there were two more options). We also find some kind of electric mosquitoes repelent in the room (not sure it worked, but it was definitely nice :). The own beach
Review 26:Room was nothing special as it didn't have a balcony nor terrace. We spent only one night so it wasn't a problem for us and you can spend the evening on the restaurants tables outside. Only one of the staff members speaks good English (I think?) and the rest not so good. It's a bit problematic to discuss with the other owners. Overall, all of the staff are super welcoming and friendly. If you are planning on going to Dubrovnik, be prepared to have a car. The parking also means just side of the street which can be pretty far away during high season.
Review 27:Location literally on the beach was perfect. You can get to swimming just 3 meters from the front door.
Review 28:Breakfast was lovely served at a reasonable price by the lovely owners who didn't speak English fluently but made you feel very very welcome which added even more to the charm. We were served on the patio on the Bay where you can sit, drink, eat and swim all night! The locals and the area are stunning and very friendly
Review 29:n/a
Review 30:Wonderful family business - extremely helpful, very hospitable - great location (proximity to Dubrovnik ideal for a day visit) and surprisingly good access to the swimming - right in front of the apartment with chairs and shower. We recommend it highly!
Review 31:The only disappointment was that the buses into Dubrovnik weren't more frequent, although there was a late bus back which was handy. Oh - and the double bed was made up of a double frame containing two single mattresses so a bit uncomfortable if you tend to roll towards the middle as I do. The shower was a little cramped because the water heater took up a lot of space above the bath but we managed OK.
Review 32:The room was lovely and big and the view from the window absolutely fabulous. Staff were really nice and friendly and the food was amazing - we had the fish platter for dinner on the day we arrived and breakfast on the day we left - omelettes recommended!! Overall, incredibly cheap for the quality of accommodation!!
Review 33:No overnight reception.
Review 34:We got lost on the way to the hotel and came in after they had closed. After finding a phone card we called the owner and he quickly came tothe property and let us in and found us a room. The room was brand newreally clean and with all the amenities that you'd need. I cantremember the bame of the woner but he made is feel very at home and wereally didnt eant to leave.
Review 35:Noisy in evening and morning, little bit hard to find. Because of boiler it's hard to stand in bathtub, which you can only use as shower
Review 36:Outgoing owner, nice view
Review 37:* None, really
Review 38:* Close to Dubrovnik * Hosts are cooking breakfast and dinner and it will be some of the best food you will ever eat * The view from the villa is breathtaking * Internet speed was amazing considering the location is outside the main city of Dubrovnik * Hosts are the friendliest, most welcoming I've ever met * They took me to the airport at 5 in the morning for a much cheaper price than I would have paid for a taxi
Review 39:A short bus ride (15 mins from Dubrovnik or 10 by cab) but right on the front of Zaton Mali. We arrived very late and could not find it so the owner came and met us to show us the way. Friendly, helpful and an all round excellent host. His father who spoke broken English was an absolute gent and ordered us a Taxi to town. Great facilities (the suite 3 is phenomenal) my real score is 20/10!!!
Review 40:Nothing the only downside was the distances from dubrovnik without a car
Review 41:You were made to feel part of the family. They even gave us lifts into dubrovnik instead of having to catch a bus.
Review 42:It is a little far from Dubrovnik Old City and having a 2 round taxi to go and return is not that cheap.
Review 43:Excellent staff, excellent food, excellent view to the sea!
Review 44:15 Mins to the old town by car but easy enough.
Review 45:Maria was a fantastic host and runs a very good apartment service. The really enjoyed the stay and even came back again. The recommended
Review 46:We spent Easter weekend in these wonderful apartments. The place was absolutely beautiful and very clean and well maintained. The WIFI worked wonderfully, the breakfast was delicious, the family was incredibly kind and happy. The town is very small but very nice, with a great restaurant and a wonderful beach. Loved our stay!
Review 47:The welcome, the focus on service, the quality of the place, the quiet, private spot on the water. We ordered their fresh fish served with their garden vegetables and cooked in their homemade olive oil: priceless.
Review 48:Breakfast a little bit too expensive for what is offered
Review 49:The view from the balcony Really really clean place Interesting value for Dubrovnick The quality of the service (welcome, kind but professional, etc.)
Review 50:Just an amazing slice of heaven in a tranquil part of the world. We stayed two days but would have loved more. Best and freshest home grown food on Croatia. Chef is awesome. A swim in the sea is just metres away and was very enjoyable. Ivor was so helpful to put us on track to see all the sites in Dubrovnik which is just a 10 min drive away. Highly recommend this stay as a must!!!
Review 51:The fact that I speak no Croatian and Nena and Anton speak limited English, so I could not express my praise and appreciation as well as I would have liked. Their son, Ivo, who manages the bookings, is on hand daily and speaks excellent English.
Review 52:The location on the little bay in Zaton Mali is sublime. Easy drive (car, taxi or bus) to Dubrovnik Old Town. The owners/hosts, Nena and Anton, are gracious, warm and supremely competent. I felt like family. The food. Nena is an outstanding cook. Anton grows the fruits and vegetables in his garden. If you say you will have fish that evening, he calls the fisherman on his boat to catch the fish. He also makes excellent wines.
Review 53:These were not big issues for us but bear mentioning I think for other travellers: The parking is available and free as described in listing but it is a short distance away and in high season I would think it could present problems for those with mobility issues. The price listed is very reasonable when location is considered but other than a fridge there is no kitchen or coffee/food prep area.
Review 54:Our hosts were always available but never intrusive. Our first Croatian meal and the best thus far. Everything prepared with such flavour using vegtables grown from their garden and fish locally caught. The apple strudel is to die for! The meals were reasonably priced as well. The attic room we had was perfect with view to the sea from our private balconey. The sea is right across the lane with a large patio and swimming access.
Review 55:Breakfast was a little expensive for what is was. Lacked cheese and ham
Review 56:The owners were very friendly. It is a family run business. Lovely meals, delicious fresh fish. being on the bay was lovely and being able to swim 50 meters from the Villa. The location is a bit tricky to find since the GPS doesn't recognize the address but the owner came and showed us the way!
Review 57:ATM was 3km. Could not use euros only kunas (state currency) was a hassle. But remember, you are in another country :)
Review 58:Our hosts were delightful. Ivo spoke fluent english, and was very honest and helpful. We ate breakfast and dinner there. Very simple, but garden grown and reasonably priced. A welcome retreat away from the busy city.
Review 59:The hotel was great, beautiful room! Pictures dont do it justice! Staff really helpful! Quiet area perfect for a night or two! Loved our night there!!
Review 60:The owners were very nice and helpful and the room was spotless. The hotel is located 5 meters from the water, which makes it perfect for a morning swim
Review 61:A little bit expensive. If you don't have a car it's hard to get there!
Review 62:We liked the location, in front of the sea. The owner was nice and talkative and his wife cooked a special lunch for us.
Review 63:Not much to mention / Maybe the Mosquitos - but it is not the only place where we met with them in Croatia. The dinner was nice, but for me it was a bit overpriced /compairing with the Dubrovnik offerings/.
Review 64:The staff was really nice and friendly, helpful with everything. We even got nice welcome drink, and good tips for our holiday. We enjoyed to stay there, especially the nice view from our terrace. We could also have a nice, relaxed time at the beach nearby / not huge, but not crowded so it was perfect for us. We would recommend to stay there.
Review 65:The first use building is not like the one in the fotos. This one doesn't have the private beach and the balcony over the sea.
Review 66:Excellent and first use commodations. Good location. Good price for Dubrovnik. Nice people.
Review 67:Not applicable-liked everything.
Review 68:Great peaceful location but within easy access to the bustle of Dubrovnik.Took the option of taking the bus into the city which was within 100mtrs of the hotel. The host could not have been more welcoming or helpful. Beautiful house with great room overlooking the bay.Could not be faulted.Lovely breakfast.10/10.
Review 69:- small diferences between despription and reality, e.g. * private parking is in practice just a place on the street if you find one * no TV in the room * nearest shop is more like 400m away
Review 70:- good location - very close to the bay and easy access to Dubrovnik - very nice older owner (doesn't speak English)
Review 71:Great place to relax. Nice quiet town with a great lagoon. The room was comfortable, the staff very polite and helpful. When staying there you must definetly try the cuisine!!! Mother of the owner is a great chef!!!
Review 72:We stayed in Villa Kukuljica for two nights in a beautiful and spacey room with a large balcony towards the sea. Totally recommend the area if you want to visit Dubrovnik as is only 7 km away by car. Best thing for us were the owners amazing people who provided us everything we needed and best inside tips about Dubrovnik and the trips around. Do not miss the Elaphiti Island Trip and Dolce Vita pancake restaurant both recommended by the host. We would totally recommend this place as is a very good value for your money!
Review 73:Ivo is an absolutely wonderful host. On previous holidays we had eaten there. The food is great. No menu ... but what you get is outstanding home croatinn cooking. We stayed a night there this you ear and were not disappointed. Clean, comfortable and a breakfast to die for. We can not say enough sbout this place.
Review 74:Internet signal doesn't work very good in the room but it works perfectly in the lobby area
Review 75:Nice and comfortable room. Perfect location to visit Dubrovnik if you have a car. Nicest couple in the world. Great breakfast and dinner. I strongly recommend this hotel.
Review 76:The staff was very friendly and accomodating, they make you feel right at home!
Review 77:Very friendly staff, great food and short drive to Dubrovnik
Review 78:The boiler inside the bath
Review 79:The place and hotel was lovely, great and helpful staf
Review 80:MR.Kukuljica is an excellent host supper is wonderful best fish I have ever had
Review 81:Location, food, staff, beach...everything is great. Next time we'll stay again at this unique accommodation.
Review 82:Location is perfect, sea is just few step from the room.
Review 83:So kind, so hospitality...
Review 84:A bit far from Dubrovnik.
Review 85:Comfortable for one night escape
Review 86:Great location and customer service. Dinner was delicious with complimentary home made Whiskey, cheese and wine. Very kind people.
Review 87:Verey friendly and helpful staff, breakfast and dinner were superb
Review 88:Weak wi-fi signal on the top floor, but still functional
Review 89:Very friendly hosts, amazing cooking, beautiful and peaceful location
Review 90:See above!
Review 91:The great location
Review 92:Tv was useless. No refrigerator in the room.
Review 93:Welcoming and helpful owners.Good location by the the sea.the room was clean and spacious.
Review 94:The wifi in the room was a little weak.
Review 95:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They greeted us with complimentary beers on our arrival and treated us to coffee on our departure. I would gladly stay here again.
Review 96:The location and facilities were amazing. The owners were friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The meals exceeded expectations. We would love to go back. Thank you.
Review 97:Ivo the owner was very helpful and great turist guide. The location wasa little bit hard to find even using gps and despite that its very nearfrom the main road. The room was fine and clean. Breakfast was good
Review 98:Beds were so noisy and uncomfortable because they have hard mattresses and stiff sheets. My parents had no complaints about their beds. Also they keys to the doors are ancient looking and can open the other rooms because they're all the same, so I didn't feel that secure.
Review 99:Host and family was very friendly and accommodating especially with meals. He told us what to do in the area, gave us a map, and told us the best times to go to the cities to avoid tourists from the ships. Stayed 2 nights. The spot was amazing and right outside the city, on the sea. We swam even though it was cool, and enjoyed the place (May)
Review 100:- very hard to reach (even with GPS device... please sign: Maly Zaton 5) - oldschool design
Review 101:- location at the bay (wonderfull view) - nice hosts - spacious room & bathroom - comfortable bed
Review 102:The hosts were fantastic and helpful. Ivo was very kind and fixed us delicious sandwiches even though we arrived after 10 PM. Great people and an excellent view and location.
Review 103:We just took a coffee in the morning, and the ownwer charged us 2 eureach coffee... The place is very difficult to find, the name of thestreet is not the one that the owner advertises, this confuses thenavigator...
Review 104:The view from the room is outstanding, the apartments are very spacious. The owner is very friendly.
Review 105:the place is quite old and feels like getting into a ghost hunted house. Some may like it, for me it was a bit creepy. The furnishing and design were all very dated and a little tattered (the glass window fell on me when i tried to close it). The bed was old and not so comfortable. Anyway, i felt uncomfortable being there, but my partner liked it better.
Review 106:Right next to the sea, and not too far from dubrovnik (although arriving to dubrovnik with a car is not the most convenient thing). We were a couple and ordered a room for 4 which was way too big but very cheap given the capacity. It was clean.
Review 107:Hospitality / close contact with Croatian owners Atmospheric terraceclose to the bay Possibility to take complete breakfast and/or dinerat affordable prices. Close approximity of Dubvrovnik (although car isneeded), and relative distance to Mostar and Kotor
Review 108:i am booking two near room with a outside toilet but not a apartment. Wishingmachine each time 10 EUR, the room have not frig.Only the private beach is good, i thing this price i can rent better apartment. the floor is too old, everytime you walk you hear some sound.
Review 109:have a private beach.
Review 110:The experience was perfect in Villa Kukuljica. Very friendly and very good attention to guests. Very good location near of Natural Park. The house is so beatiful and clean. Perfect!
Review 111:Parking is tight, but not too bad
Review 112:Ivo the propreitor was very helpful and when there was a booking issue that caused us to not have a roomwith a balcony, hemade up for it with breakfast on the house and had a great tip for where to park during our visit to Dubrovnik. The location and direct water front acess was great
Review 113:It is not located in Dubrovnik, but in a location to the north so don't expect to be able to walk into the old town. Parking was very good however.
Review 114:A great place to stay out of Dubrovnik right on the water. Very friendly hosts who ensured we were looked after well. The water outside the front door was glorious to swim in and we were lucky enough to have a direct view of the water. We had a very clean and spacious room. Breakfast was most appropriate. Very quiet at night.
Review 115:First the owners, Ivo, his Mom and Dad are so friendly, the location and the villa are exceptional, The fish dinner cooked for us was the best we have tasted, all of the above at extremely reasonable prices
Review 116:Dinner was expensive; we were charged extra for salad that we didn't order. We had a car, but it might be difficult to get to Dubrovnik as buses are infrequent.
Review 117:Large, elegant apartment with balcony. Extremely close to the water with private area with chairs, tables, umbrellas (cement stair entrance, not a beach). Ivo was very helpful and gave us excellent tips for visiting Dubrovnik.
Review 118:The service was good, the owner's father always said do not worryabout tomorrow my son makes the account. Offered them a lunch andaccept. We had a surprise because we were served two pieces of chickenand two pieces of pork, a salad of cucumber, tomato and lettuce and wascharged 36 euros for it, that is more car than the host, as would notcomplain so let but felt ripped off, the meal was over I had carra andpoor in Europe ... Can stay in the apartments, but before eating, askthe price .... not to be surprised as we ......
Review 119:The service was good and the room is clean
