Reviews for Dales Country House Hotel
Review 1:Ambiance of both lounge where we waited for dinner and the main dining room were both a little lacking and could have done with better lighting and interior design
Review 2:Excellent food
Review 3:Sadly the weather was cold and windy and our bathroom had ill fitting window frames and was freezing. Also the very large lounge and the dining room were both quite chilly.
Review 4:The quiet and spacious bedroom with nice view across fields to the sea. The staff were all delightful, attentive and helpful. The evening meal was delicious and very reasonably priced.
Review 5:Annoyed by the lack of Wi-Fi [room 1] despite being informed that it usually worked there. Extractor fan in bathroom had an outside flap which banged and slapped open and shut all night every time the wind blew; not good for a nights sleep. Similarly, exterior lighting lit up our room which again, isn't conducive to a good nights sleep.
Review 6:Pleasant staff, secluded and reasonably quiet location, very good restaurant menu, very comfortable both in our room and the communal areas
Review 7:They were having problems with wifi and hence had no access for the stay. It is away from town so no phone reception either.
Review 8:The staff were very friendly and the hotel itself had a good feel.
Review 9:we thought the breakfast was overpriced and the service slow, this wasn't a problem at night but when you wanted to get going in the morning it was frustrating.
Review 10:we loved the luxury and good service. We struggled with the shower but otherwise the room was excellent
Review 11:The bed creaked, there was a loose tile on the bathroom floor, and two of the room lamps didn't work.
Review 12:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic, though it's a shame that they had run out of yoghurt at breakfast.
Review 13:Breakfast should be included
Review 14:Beautiful location, but nowhere within walking distance for evening meals. Therefore had meal at hotel which was reasonable price and good quality
Review 15:We loved our stay at The Dales ! Clean and well appointed room. Inviting areas inside and out encouraging you to sit, relax and enjoy the surroundings. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Our thanks to Anthony and the Chef for making Eamonns 50th birthday all the more special. Lovely, friendly, approachable and well mannered staff made our stay all the more pleasurable, ...... so much so that we have already booked a return stay !
Review 16:£12.95 for less than average breakfast, after paying a significant price already. The noise in the bedroom, we were over the kitchen. Toiletries never changed
Review 17:Location is beautiful, it is connected to Sheringham park. The gardens are nice.
Review 18:The upkeep of the room was poor. Rotted bath panel caused by a poorly maintained shower screen which has obviously not been maintained for some time causing the nice flooring to be spoilt because of the tile grout being rotted away by the constant soaking the floorboards were getting. We waited nearly an hour because they ran out of croissants for the continental breakfast. Not really good enough for an establishment charging premium prices.
Review 19:Location was lovely. Staff friendly.
Review 20:Being "forced" to wait in the bar/drinks area to await the meal, rather than at the table.
Review 21:general atmosphere was good friendly and welcoming.
Review 22:The room we were in was above the kitchen. Lots of noise when cooking being done. Wallpaper was coming off on one wall.
Review 23:Very helpful staff. Locality of the hotel easy parking.
Review 24:Our ground floor room whilst pleasant and clean required a short walk to the hotel itself with wet weather this is a bit of a nuisance - how about an umbrella? Some noise from the nearby kitchen and deliveries- not a particular issue but something to consider perhaps?
Review 25:Good location, pleasant staff and restaurant food all of a high standard, an excellent dinner was enjoyed.
Review 26:Limited choice of red wine by the glass.
Review 27:We liked the quietness and friendly atmosphere of the hotel. The choice and quality of the evening meal was very good with the menu being changed each day.
Review 28:Hotel was excellent as was the food but reception could have done with air fresheners as at times the smell of food was a bit overpowering.
Review 29:Excellent Hotel just outside Sheringham in its own setting but only a short taxi ride away from Sheringham Town.
Review 30:Cooked breakfast was not very hot. Hamper of food/drink goodies in room very good idea but very overpriced.
Review 31:The hotel had an intimate feel It was small enough to give the personal touch. The location was fantastic next to a beautiful country park. Dinner was very good. Very attentive staff.
Review 32:Beautiful setting, stunning views, calm and peaceful. Could sit and listen to the wind in the trees, the birds singing. Could look up at the night sky in wonder at the stars. Close to popular places to visit. Within easy reach of the coast.
Review 33:No complaints only praise.
Review 34:Loved the Edwardian house set in large park. Friendly staff in reception and dining room. Very elegant dining room;flowers on the tables. Pleasant bedroom with views over park. Food in evening was excellent. Continental breakfast was offered instead of cooked, comprising fruit , cereals and a prettily presented platter of cheese and ham at a very reasonable price.
Review 35:Not a bad experience but an improvement would be greater selection for buffet breakfast. Garden in need of attention
Review 36:Tea on the lawn. Canapes served in the bar before dinner Easy access to Sheringham Park
Review 37:Breakfast time seems stressful for the limited staff they had serving compared to the amount of guests they had. We waited 30 minutes to be asked if we wanted tea or coffee. To then be asked if we've been served and 20 minutes later be offered a menu. The bathroom had a drain smell and the power in room went out as we were getting ready for a wedding!
Review 38:Hotel was nice, beautiful location. Friendly reception staff.
Review 39:The room was Bittern. Paper hanging off the wall. The carpet had hills in it. Not enough sugar provided. The room was cold to the extent that we had to ask for a heater. A double bed with a king size head board. Power points hidden behind bedside tables. Wardrobe door kept falling off the runner. The verandah hadn't been swept since autumn last year, full of leaves. The grounds in some places look like a jungle. In the dining room there are cobwebs on the windowsills. Generally the Hotel and grounds are somewhat tatty. On a positive note the staff were very good and the service was excellent however the duck I had was overcooked and it's the first time in my experience breakfast wasn't included into the price. I won't be staying there again.
Review 40:the staff were very good and the service was excellent
Review 41:Wifi was very hit and miss in the bedroom, but strong in public areas
Review 42:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Table d'Hote menu changed every day and was very good value, well cooked and tasty. A special mention for our waiter (Jamie) who did everything he could to ensure our meals were perfect - a credit to the hotel.
Review 43:The weather! Can't do much about that though!!
Review 44:Everything! We needed to get away for our own sanity. The hotel is comfortable, the staff are excellent and the food is great. Nothing was a problem to the staff, they were all very pleasant and professional.
Review 45:The decor is tired and it's not that clean. Service seems poorly trained rather than unwilling. Food is ok. It's 3 star trying to be 4 star
Review 46:It's a lovely setting with great access to the Coast. The bed is comfortable and the food is ok.
Review 47:We were put in a downstairs annex room off the main carpark when i complained we was then moved to another annex room just inside the hotel right next to the cleaning cupboard which was used at 8am the next morning
Review 48:the grounds and restaurant
Review 49:Got a discounted price deal 24 hours before on booking.com as wouldn't normally pay £175 for a hotel. Wish we could had more time on site to explore the grounds and Sheringham Park. Decided to breakfast out in nearby Holt as the breakfast was not included which for the £175 price ought to be included.
Review 50:The shower... was difficult to adjust, as it would have been too hard for my wife to use without my help and also very awkward to access temperature knob.
Review 51:Tea on the lawn in the sunshine with bird-song......bliss Beautiful lounge which made evenings such a joy. Welcoming and delightful staff
Review 52:shower water did not drain away - outlet disconnected! No bath mat. On second day had to ask for soap. All problems speedily fixed but disappointed we had to report them
Review 53:pleasant staff - well looked after
Review 54:The hotel was very cosy with very friendly staff, great breakfast and dinner, a comfortable room in a lovely setting adjacent to a National Trust park - perfect.
Review 55:The Staff were both helpful & friendly, aside from this, the charm and historic aspects of the building make the Hotel appealing and very special.
Review 56:Nothing really. The food portions are large and may not suit all. The quality of the food however is superb and the chefs seem to cook everything to order.
Review 57:Very comfortable stay made better by friendly and attentive staff and excellent food. The hotel is away from the town but close enough to avail yourself of the facilities. It is well placed to tour the Norfolk coast and return to several fires and a large dinner. Very attractive Arts and Crafts house with Art Deco influence and an eclectic mix of features and furnishings. Watch out for William de Morgan tiles in the bar fireplace.
Review 58:The extraction fan in the bathroom did not work. There was not toilet roll holder. It was difficult to adjust the temperature of the shower
Review 59:The Kingfisher room with a balcony was excellent. Lovely location. Staff were friendly, Food was good
Review 60:View from the room was very poor but in reality, one only sleeps in the room.
Review 61:Comfortable,clean, old world charm. Set in delightful grounds which in summer would be heavenly. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Food was very good and cooked to order.
Review 62:lovely rooms, bedroom and lounges nice restaurant high quality food and wine at reasonable prices nice grounds adjacent to park very quiet, good nights sleep
Review 63:smelly downstairs toilet, would have expected breakfast as inclusive
Review 64:caring , friendly, always polite and smiling staff, good food, the staff must have had excellent training you will need to leave a tip as they make your stay very comfortable
Review 65:Only one pack of biscuits per 2 people- bit mean! Shower didn't get above lukewarm
Review 66:Really liked location, building itself, bedroom was nicely decorated and very comfy. Very accommodating for my dogs and our baby.
Review 67:The Rooms could do with updating. Bathrooms need to have separate showers (not in-bath shower) We had 1 evening meal and it wasn't very nice, so we did not book into the restaurant again, we went out to eat.
Review 68:The location very relaxing. Most of the staff were very attentive and professional, there was just one who didn't wear a uniform or name badge, so we do not know her name, but she just strutted around like she was more important than everybody else, and she did not in our opinion give a good service, was just full of her own self importance, and not really interested in customers. When she was "in charge" of the restaurant/reception - she did not greet anybody with the politeness of all the other staff. Special Thanks go to Adam - who was fantastic.
Review 69:Nothing
Review 70:The food was very good and we were able to have a continental breakfast at a very reasonable price. Layout of room good, with sea view. Staff very helpful and polite at all times.
Review 71:Reception from TV wasn't great, but if you're coming to a hotel like this to watch the TV then you're probably in the wrong place!
Review 72:Ample parking, beautifully sized room, warm greeting by staff and some stunning views.
Review 73:We have been before and never had anything to complain about
Review 74:We have akwsys found the staff to be above average and very helpful. They make you feel very much "at home"
Review 75:Nothing really
Review 76:Location good, nice size room but a little dated bed very comfortable. TV screen a little small! Restaraunt excellent staff very willing to please but a little disorganised. We would however recommend this hotel to friends and stay again ourselves.
