Reviews for Antonine Hotel

Review 1:Distance to room from front door Stairs (no lift) to 1st floor. Decor a bit dated

Review 2:Rooms were very clean. Shower very powerful loads of hot water. Staff very friendly and informative of places to eat (breakfast)Wetherspoons Dinner - Italian straight across from hotel 2nd floor appears newly decorated and bright

Review 3:No hot water at 07.00 am did not start heating up until nearer 08.00

Review 4:Decent sized room, comfortable bed, bit outdated but clean, tidy and in a good location. somewhere to stay the night for a good price, would not hesitate to use again if needed. Private car parking on site.

Review 5:Where do I start? Dirty, hot, smelly banging doors, and that is just the corridors. The unmade beds and bloody tissues in the bathroom made me leave without staying! It seams to be some sort of hostel for homeless, as there was a big pile of post for guests at reception.

Review 6:I loved the fact we were greeted by a police officer escorting a young lady from the hotel!

Review 7:The room was exceptionally hot - even with no heater on and the window open. Bed exceptionally uncomfortable

Review 8:Car park - very convenient. Central location

Review 9:No internet, the toilette seat didn't fit or flush properly, nowhere to hang towels, only one available plug socket and the room wasn't cleaned for the three days I was there.

Review 10:slightly broken top window so little bit noisier than would have been if could be closed..

Review 11:Well located near Grahamston railway station, lots of places to eat on doorstep, very nice receptionist! for £40 a good budget option.

Review 12:No lift to 1st floor. had to wait at reception for 10 mins before we found a member of staff. (No staff in bar either!) Room was badly in need of decoration- wallpaper, bedspreads, curtains not matching and exposed pipes in room could do with covering up.

Review 13:The price of the room. the room was clean. location of hotel- walking distance to city centre.

Review 14:It was very dirty, bin in bathroom still full from previous visitor, carpets not hoovered since I don't know when! No one seemed to know how to run the place, any queries were met with, "I don't normally work here so not sure if I can help with that". Girl on reception was friendly but i imagine she is putting a brave face on.

Review 15:Nothing

Review 16:The staff were the lovely, the hotel although not modern was clean and had everything we needed. There was onsite parking and the location was perfect! For the price was good value!

Review 17:No bad experience but be aware that there is bit of stair climbing and a short stroll to get to the one lift so need to be mobile. No breakfast was not a problem as loads of places around offering that service and free internet in area if not in hotel.

Review 18:It was in a good location within easy walking distance of bars restaurants but also had a bar on site that was competitively priced. Grahamston station a 5 minute walk. Falkirk High a £3.50p taxi ride. Large comfortable room quiet during he week as mostly used by contractors working in the area. I would definitely use again I expect a different clientele at weekends but would still be a good base for visitors to this area

Review 19:The beds are sub-standard and felt like sleeping on the floor. The bedding is appaling to say the least and were not changed (Not that we expected so much curtesy). My wife seriously considered booking another hotel for the 2nd night.

Review 20:Perhaps the location

Review 21:First visit for 1 night was good just not enough plugs for 3 people's things that needed charging whilst watching TV and making drinks. Second visit for 1 night was horrendous:- 1. The room door didn't lock, had to close the window on a warm evening to stop the door rattling; Reported, but told there was no other room available, would try and get hold of nightshift, but not to worry as no-one will try and get in our room. 2. Dirty, used tea cups & spoon and no teabags;Reported, but after waiting for half an hour and being thirsty, decided go back down to reception to see what was taking so long, and was given 1 clean & 1 thickly stained tea cup and 3 teabags. 3. Room carpet was full of crumbs especially inbetween the beds;Reported,by asking if she had a vac or a dustpan & brush to clean the floor - this was reported at the same time as the tea cup issue, but after waiting a while, decided to ask again,as I wanted to settle down for the night after having a long drive and facing another long drive in the morning. I asked for just a dustpan & brush so I could clean up the crumbs between all the beds myself. By 10:30/11:00pm I had given up waiting for this as I just wanted to sleep!! 4. No hot water - the shower was luke warm water for about 2 minutes and then went cold and would not warm back up. This was not reported as I couldn't find a member of staff at the time (10:30/11:00pm),and we were already still waiting for the dustpan & brush, which failed to be brought to us. Upon leaving in the morning,as I had already paid for the room the night before, so I could just drop the key off and avoid any delay in setting off; I again forgot to mention about the shower being cold and being kept up waiting for the room to be cleaned, which never happened!!

Review 22:Big room (triple)

Review 23:The hotel rooms being at the back and going up 4flights of stairs ,along a corridor before you even get to the lift. This is not good if you are elderly or have trouble with stairs. Also some guests letting their room door just bang instead of closing it properly.

Review 24:The staff was all really friendly and helpful. The hotel was in a great location close to shops,Witherspoon and bus station all just around the corner.

Review 25:there was no elevator the bedding hasn't been changed. I like fresh ones. We couldn't take a shower because there was either extrem hot oder ice cold water, but we couldn't manage to got warm water. The water in the bathroom was dropping during the night. Even though we booked with free WIFI - there was only WIFI available in the Bar belonging to the Hotel "Coyote".

Review 26:good value for money - cheap good TV - flat screen. great view out of the window over the city

Review 27:For mature couples a walk in shower. Is preferable and. uses less water.Stairs up to lift are difficult although staff helped us to take luggage up and down

Review 28:Helpful staff. Convenient for shops etc value for money

Review 29:The staff in reception was asked me about details of my credit card. Ok, in Hilton, but not in Antonine!!! This is disqualifying this place for booking.com!!!

Review 30:wi fi wasn't working during our stay, wudnt really suit a disabled person

Review 31:staff friendly and very helpful, tidy hotel, good location, comfortable stay

Review 32:The door would not lock and they told us it would be alright but when we insisted they moved us to another room. The lift only started on the first floor which was the original reception. This particular floor was rather creepy - out of date brochures on the stand.

Review 33:Staff were friendly

Review 34:A reception counter covered with several pint beer glasses, no staff to be seen, reception door wide open for access by the umpteen drunks who ventured in from the bar alongside, one of whom attempted drunkedly to ask my personal details (he was told to return to the bar from whence he came). Idiot.

Review 35:Location

Review 36:The most dirty and worst hotel I've ever stay! Rooms, towels and beds smelled soooooo bad!!! Also nobody informed us that downstairs hotel is club with loud music the whole night. Drunk people are walking around the whole hotel so can't fee safe!

Review 37:None!!!!!!

Review 38:Cheapest matress possible, l slept on duvet cover to make it softer. Luckily it was warm night. Dirty bathroom full of mold and no where to hang your clothes or towels. Curtain poles are aluminium poles used for shower curtain. One curtain per window. 80'S furniture with modern wall paper. Bedroom door has no handle to open from inside. Drunks from nightclub can wonder up into hotel screaming and shouting past midnight. Had to push through drunk lads on the stairs who then smashed glasses, very scary. Could be nice with refurb with a womens touch and seperate safe entrance for hotel guests ONLY.

Review 39:Managed to get the last parking space which is free. But worried at night because drunks from nightclub hanging around the carpark, smoking. Weatherspoons 2 mins away for breakfast.

Review 40:Bathroom was tired and grubby. Bedding was very old and tired. Above a noisy bar/nightclub although the noise could not be heard in the rooms. All doors banged very loudly as the soft closers were broken. In summary this is more like a hostel than a hotel.

Review 41:Cheap... centrally located for a short walk to a direct train to Edinburgh. Short drive to the Falkirk Wheel and The Kelpies.

Review 42:We had a long delay because of problems with the car rental in Edinburgh. The very friendly lady was waiting for us until we arrived at 1:30 in night.

Review 43:It was so run down and very noisy the door would not lock on our room, it has to be one of the worst places I have ever stayed in!

Review 44:There is really not a lot too like about this hotel, the location was the reason I booked as it was close to the stadium but I would have rather stayed further away and got somewhere decent!

Review 45:Very tired and dated looking hotel. Room door sticking, required slamming. Coffee tray grubby, milk was off.

Review 46:Friendly receptionist (but was the only member of staff for the entire building). Comfortable beds.

Review 47:Wi-Fi not available in the room. Quite a lot of workmen staying in it, and they were making some amount of racket on the Sunday night, well after midnight. Decor is a bit like the hotel from the shining.

Review 48:The staff member Roberta was very friendly, and happy to help with any queries. Was good chatting away with someone, as the bar was empty. The shower was like doing the ice bucket challenge in the morning, freezing!

Review 49:I felt that the rooms were not safe, due to being unable to get out of the room it took us a good 10 minutes to open the door, when we raised the concern we were told all rooms were the same and to get to on with it,

Review 50:the night time worker was very present and helpful.

Review 51:mattress needs replacing - can feel the springs. door difficult to open, it needs a handle any one with no strength in hands would struggle.

Review 52:Staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 53:Got keys to a room at 1630 that was dirty had not been cleaned from Use be previous guest, urine in the toilet, running tap, dirty towels and a full bin of rubbish. However seems the previous guest stayed in the wrong room. Girl on desk was ver apologetic

Review 54:Girl on the desk was very friendly and helpful

Review 55:DECOR. COAT OF BRIGHT PAINT WOULDN;T GO AMISS AS CORRIDORS ARE DIM.. WOULD BE DIFFICULT FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLED AS LIFTS START ON FIRST FLOOR/ also difficult to get to by car due to one-way traffic

Review 56:STAFF FRIENDLINESS/price

Review 57:no hot water around 5pm, so a cold shower confusing finding the room, the lift doesnt go all the way so you have to climb quite a few stairs the wander the corridor to find the lift no slip mat in the shower and only about 4 tv channels. no breakfast which when you have a 6 hour journey ahead is not ideal never any staff on reception you had to go in the bar to find them

Review 58:location is good, staff were friendly

Review 59:Bit of a hike to our bedroom. Probably would not suit anyone incapacitated. Hardly a salubrious area but right in city centre.

Review 60:Position, free parking and value for money. Basic, budget 70's hotel but just what we needed. Helpful staff.

Review 61:They had lost my reservation (though that was solved quickly). The room had not been thoroughly cleaned before my arrival as there was a dirty mug and towel. And the housekeeper left my room unlocked each day that she cleaned (which, mind you, wasn't every day). Also couldn't find wifi, even in public spaces.

Review 62:I liked the price, Location, tv, and relatively recent decorating.

Review 63:The door didn't shut properly and when we came back we found it ajar, I think the breeze from the open window may have pushed it open, but it took a lot of effort to close properly which isn't ideal.

Review 64:Nice and comfortable.

Review 65:Parking was 3/10 Rooms had no wifi . In this day and age ? Beds were uncomfortable and a mission to get to the room also .. The website said food . There was none . I can only give this hotel 3/10 sorry

Review 66:Friendly bar . Full of contractors and a few holiday makers

Review 67:The sheets and duvets were rather horrible.

Review 68:If you like quirky decor rather than same-old same-old this might be the place for you. It was clean, if tired, and everything worked. The staff were friendly.

Review 69:Very uncomfortable beds in both rooms. Limited tea and coffee in room and no biscuits. No breakfast available and no meals offered. They also host a very, very noisy disco on-site. No facilities of any kind available in the "Hotel". I do not find the title "B&B" or "Hotel" fitting in any way. it was more like a Hostel.

Review 70:Excellent central location with secure on-site parking. Very pleasant receptionist on arrival.

Review 71:WiFi only in entrance area (I knew that), but long walk from room to entrance area Shower did not work in my room, but bath tub did

Review 72:Low price, very close to bus and railway station

Review 73:If you are unlucky and have noisy neighbours, you won't get much sleep.

Review 74:Nice staff, central location, good price for an overnight stay. Very good Italian restaurant directly opposite. Don't be put off by exterior/entrance of this hotel. Inside is better.

Review 75:The desk was unattended most of the time. The hotel was large and it was a long walk to the rooms, through gloomy unused conference rooms.

Review 76:Near Falkirk Wheel

Review 77:What a weird hotel- tacked onto a BHS store in the centre of Falkirk, housed in the old flat roofed drab concrete buildings from the 70's & 80's. Inside the laminate flooring- acres of it on the airport style length of travel from reception to bedrooms, through acres of unused space and dimly lit corridors. Took a while to learn the route & fortunately didn't bump into the Minotaur. The view was great- if you're into 1080's air conditioning units that resemble a Mars based space station. The TV sort of worked if you managed to find a signal using the tiny indoor aerial. Plugging the kettle in was interesting- either rummage under the tv table, or hold it over the bed & the bath towel had obviously shrunk in the wash. One day, the cleaners might even spot the accumulated dirt behind the bathroom door....shades of an 80's luxury hotel now in the twilight of it's years, waiting to be part of a city centre re-development, but worth staying there if you're looking for a cost effective bed for the night- just enjoy it! The lack of wi-fi was the biggest let down.

Review 78:The car park was reasonably secure in that it had a barrier to prevent unauthorised access. The Bistro across the road was entertaining- food was great and the bouncers dressed in black sporting earpieces were brilliant- who'd have thought it? Bouncers on a restaurant door! The bedroom & bathroom were basic but fine- bed sheets clean, towels clean toilet & shower serviceable and working,

Review 79:We stayed in the hotel on a saturday, and right next to the hotel, there was a disco, which played music really loudly, and when it ended people came to the hotel to continue party. I dont have to say I didnt sleep anything that night. There was no wifi in the rooms, even though it said in the advert, when I went down to ask the staff, they were in the disco, and didnt want to help. The bed was uncomfortable, and the sheets were smelly, and by the way there is nothing to see in Falkirk.

Review 80:Free parking

Review 81:T.v didn't work. Wasn't that bothered but some may be.

Review 82:Just needed a cheap place to stay for two nights in central Falkirk. Job done, very satisfied.

Review 83:rude staff , no wifi , window in bathroom dosen`t shut so all the wind was coming in room , tv dosen`t work , loud music playing at the party , no space to park

Review 84:It was cheap ..... But after checking in I regretted it !! Rooms are at the top ....miles of corridors .... And the bed was hellish !! Uncomfortable - a double with only two pillows - I didn't,t think it was too clean? No breakfast ? Nothing offered ? ... Sorry won,t be back

Review 85:It was cheap ..... Good TV .... Hot bath .... Friendly check in .... Parking ...

Review 86:the hotel was in bad need of up dating, after a long walk upstairs, down dark corridor, we could smell smoke and it was musty and dirty, the lift was frightening it bang a lot. The room was horrible , the bed sheets and quilts where very old and well worn and the pillow where horrible old and full of marks, the mattress was disgusting hard very dirty and the cover was all rip and had yellow mark all over, we made a drink first night and it tasted horrible the kettle was so old and mouldy it made the water smell horrible, we ask if we could have a new kettle and was told they bring us one but it never arrived, the towel where so small. They never empty the bins and we was there 3 nights, it was a disgusting hotel and we would not advise anyone to stay here,

Review 87:the location

Review 88:Was a little worried by the extreior of the hotel but once inside was all clean enough. The matress was very firm but that is just personal taste. Great budget hotel ideal for after a wedding or night out. Staff were very friendly.

Review 89:The 3 mile hike to the room in the dark corridors, the room was like asauna very run down and dirty looking, Went to go for a shower and therewas no hot water, phoned reception from my mobile and the guy told meyou have to run the water for 30/40 minutes before it goes warm :-ohad to have a freezing cold shower as I was in a hurry! There was nohairdryer, Iron or Iron board basics even in a hostel, Morning shower -let the water run for 30/40 minutes and the shower was stillfreezing! No staff on reception when checking out!All in all I paid more to stay here than I could have paid for the Travel lodge which is only 3 miles away however not having stayed here before I thought its in town surely it cant be that bad especially as its more expensive than the Travellodge - How wrong was I :-(

Review 90:The location because its in town centre.

Review 91:The place was rebuilt a few years ago when a new shopping centre was erected in front of what had been the main entrance...so that is were the lift goes from ....unfortunately one has to climb two flights of stairs to get to that level now! WiFi does not work in bedrooms, only on ground floor. It was a Friday night...VERY LOUD disco in ground floor bar...and two big rooms on next floor up had 2 more discos for 18th b'day parties! BUT once I got up to my room on what HAD been the 1st floor, I could not hear them...so no problem really...just the stairs!! They no longer do breakfasts, Cleanliness not wonderful either..Would not stay again, or recommend! (Retired Senior Lecturer in Hotel management and professional cookery)

Review 92:Staff very friendly and helpful,,,I am disabled and not good on stairs so they carried my small case up for me. In the evening when the b'day parties were on and I was slowly making my way up the 2 flights of stairs, at least six of the young people around asked if i needed any help .I was mightily impressed !.There's hope for us yet!!!..

Review 93:The toiletries looked really used ... Like re used too many times. The place was dirty, tv was not working no wifi although they said there was... Just below average...

Review 94:None

Review 95:TV old and did not work. shower / bath gel. Towels rough and small Locks on doors easy to break - room could easily have been broken into

Review 96:Helpful staff

Review 97:They had a party on both nights without any pre warning and we got there before 10 and there was no reception staff had to go to the night club next door to get the room key and the bed was solid could be comfy to some people

Review 98:Good location

Review 99:The room facility is quite old. The kettle hasn't been used for a while and there is smell of strange plastics when boiling the water. The heater in my friend's room is not on anyway. The shampoo/body soap in in the same bottle. While I tried to use the shampoo, the pipe runs the liquid in blue although it's creamy white in the bottle. I doubt the cleanness of hotel.

Review 100:The price is really good and we booked at the last minute. Although the hotel is in a bar area and very noisy outside, the room is quite after shutting the window.

Review 101:EVERYTHING THE Cleaning

Review 102:.we found dirty nickers in the room and socks and it wasn't ours . The cleaning was awful .there was no one at reception everyday !

Review 103:Very poor decor. Lots of lg damp patches on walls & ceiling. Dirty cups in room. Electrical wires sticking out of wall. Lights not working.

Review 104:Happy to leave & never return.

Review 105:Although wasn't important for this trip, not having wi-fi in the room would've been disappointing at any other time.

Review 106:Ticked pretty much all the boxes required for my "flying visit" (check-in at 9.30pm - check-out 7.30am!). Clean, tidy, warm and staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 107:While clean and comfortable the bed linen was quite faded and tired looking. Only a minor complaint though as it didn't affect my stay. Also while fine for me, there was a lot of stairs which may be an issue for less mobile guests.

Review 108:Great location, just a few minutes from the train station, pubs and shops. Bathroom looked like it had recently been refitted. Surprised to see the TV had built in usb playback and dvd player.

Review 109:My bed was so hard, and it was like a maze to get to the room.also i was that high up we were looking down at there airplanes flying by but for the price i wasn't bothered at all :)

Review 110:Location was brilliant the bar was good, all round very friendly and very helpful. And the price u can not knock

Review 111:Despite assurances room was quiet, there was a very noisy function on Saturday night which kept me awake

Review 112:Friendly lady, Elisabeth, at reception. Good location

Review 113:When checking in I found the lady who dealt with me friendly and helpful, after checking in and going to my room I had to come back to reception to request an iron and Ironing board which was provided by the housekeeping staff again very friendly and helpful. I would certainly recommend and use the hotel again.

Review 114:Not a criticism just an observation. Tea bags not prewrapped. Thats all

Review 115:The location is excellent the staff lovely and our room was great. Would like to have taken it home.

Review 116:It did not bother my wife or myself as we are able to climb stairs, but my sisterinlaw is unable to climb stairs and we was hopeing to bring her to this hotel next year for a holiday,so some sort of a lift from reception level to ground level would be nice.

Review 117:The hotel was very nice and the staff very helpfull, the room was well looked after.

Review 118:The entrance, hallways and reception areas have the entretrenched odour of eons of party nights. Typical of old hotels. A restoration would make this a classy hotel.

Review 119:The room was tastefully decorated in an Italian style. Vibrant colours. It was a delight to be in. What a contrast to today's typical hotel room designed by committee research to be the most forgettable experience of your life. The bathroom was fully tiled the bath was the cleanest shining white enamel I have ever seen in a hotel, and I have been in plenty. The water was hot and plentiful. From the street this hotel appears to be very low budget ,but once inside the decor surprises. It has seen better days. But as long as the hotel keeps it prices low, I would choose it over any other hotel in Falkirk.

Review 120:Noisy lift. No heating.

Review 121:Old fashioned hotel with most facilities now closed. No food service but cafe's close by.

Review 122:Very clean and staff very friendly.

Review 123:Plug in the basin was unusable

Review 124:All OK just what we needed for a one night stop over

Review 125:Centre of town

Review 126:The hotel is cheap and chearful, and it is clean and central. Perfect for what I wanted. I arrived late, and just needed a bed for the night.

Review 127:very welcomming atmasphere and spot on located

Review 128:long walk to room

Review 129:quiet,warm,clean

Review 130:Lift was bit noisy and far from the entrance.

Review 131:Central Location and value for money.

Review 132:All ok

Review 133:Verry nice

Review 134:Stairs up to1st floor then long walk to lift.

Review 135:Located in centre of town, easy walking distance. There was a function on the night we stayed, but we were sufficiently far away as not to disturb us

Review 136:the friendliness

The Fine Print

Please note that there are a number of stairs to climb before reaching the lift. Please note that this hotel does not have a full time reception.
