Reviews for The Old School Hotel

Review 1:service was very slow. Didn't feel we got value for money for such an iconic location

Review 2:great location to visit although the room was very small, service was a bit slow as not enough staff were available for a busy time of year.

Review 3:Pleasant if compact room - but we were woken up by the rattling doors / draughts. nb we did stay on the night of "storm frank"

Review 4:Great location and excellent staff

Review 5:Initial interaction with reception staff. Was treated very rudely until they realised I was a guest then they completely changed their attitude.

Review 6:Location and history of local area.

Review 7:We felt for what we paid It was more expense than the rest of the great places where we have stayed we where very disapointed, the value was not there. mattress was not good it needed replacing not comfortable, room was to small also the bathroom was tiny, we expected better. Really I felt the town could offer more for the tourist I my opinion.

Review 8:The hotel is well situated with fabulous views. The scenery fabulous. The food was great.

Review 9:Tiny room and bathroom. No available horizontal surfaces for your things. Completely weird plumbing -- boiling hot water came out of the cold water tap before it got cold. The shower worked for one shower but then no water came out of the faucet for my husband's shower. The tub surround was very hot to the touch. Just odd...

Review 10:Easy walk to sights. Parking. Very pretty grounds.

Review 11:Wall very thin as the person next door might just as well stayed in the same room snored like a warthog all night except that everything was fine

Review 12:Service and the food cannot be faulted

Review 13:My advice is to try the restaurant. High quality of the food and low price. Pic the sticky toffee pudding. It could be change your day ... Staff polite, happy and helpful. Great location and room.

Review 14:Perhaps typical of this type of aged hotel in traditional and small Cornish villages the Old School House is exactly as described but has little rustic or scholastic charm! Generally, it needs a major refurbishment/upgrade to justify expensive room rates, otherwise visitors like ourselves will never consider extending the stay or a making a revisit. We were in the Biology Suite, on the top floor, with a claimed sea view, which could only be viewed lying on the floor looking through large square type 'port holes'! The cost of £165 per night including breakfast represented very poor value in comparison to other hotels we stayed in during our Cornish holiday. The food on offer was fresh, but salads with the starter were identical to those accompanying main courses and not particularly imaginative.

Review 15:Location and ease of parking the car

Review 16:Having to leave so soon

Review 17:The rooms and their views. The staff were very helpful and offered great suggestions of what to do where to go. Sam was exceptional in her help especially with our luggage

Review 18:A beautiful location and a lovely hotel with simple, elegant finishes. It was a little expensive compared to other towns in the area but that was to be expected in Port Isaac!

Review 19:Nothing to complain about.

Review 20:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful after bailing me out of a tricky situation with a neighbouring b & b involving a leak in the ceiling. The room they put me in was superb. I was sad to leave.

Review 21:The staff were lovely and the food at the hotel was excellent. Even though it was very busy in the village and hotel, there was no fault to the service we received. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit

Review 22:Although it wasn't a problem some might find parking here a little difficult. However a hotel with parking in Port Isaac is a bonus.

Review 23:Good hotel in a excellent location with friendly helpful staff. Restaurant had a inexpensive varied menu and we enjoy the breakfast and evening meal we had there. Ideal for a taste of a good old British holiday.

Review 24:Size of room and bathroom - both on small side for the price. TV on small side, more hooks, shelves needed.

Review 25:Location, character, parking available. Lovely breakfast, very prompt service. Staff very pleasant.

Review 26:Very tight entrance into car park, which is difficult if your car is longer than average, plenty of space to park once you're in.

Review 27:Location excellent, view from bedroom was across the bay, beautiful.

Review 28:Not a negative, just a note. If you do not turn in your room key in the morning, your room will not be serviced that day.

Review 29:Port Isaac is a small fishing village with narrow streets. What a pleasant surprise to be able to drive through the village and right into a parking space at the hotel entrance. We stayed in the Geography room. My wife loved sitting up on the window bench looking out over the harbor and reading her book. The room was spacious and the bath a bit dated. Breakfasts were varied and filling. We had one evening meal in the restaurant - fish and chips. Fresh and excellently prepared.

Review 30:Parking tight but not a problem on my stay and this was clear beforehand.

Review 31:Good views, clean comfortable rooms, great shower, TV fresh coffee and wifi in room. good value.

Review 32:The car park is a bit of a squeeze - but not terrible for Cornwall; basically anyone wanting to drive around Cornwall should use the smallest vehicle to which they have access!

Review 33:The whole place is lovely - really cute, rooms are well done and clean. It feels very quaint and Cornish and is right in the middle of town. Really nice helpful staff. Good breakfast.

Review 34:We had no complaints . We will definitely be back.

Review 35:The location of the hotel is great. We could walk everywhere. We ate all of our meals at the hotel - they were all superior in taste, presentation and service.

Review 36:Excellent experience, we stayed in the French room and enjoyed the ambience. We enjoyed a lovely dinner and breakfast in their sunny restaurant. Great to be able to park our car on site. A wonderful experience for two Doc Martin fans.

Review 37:Nothing to dislike

Review 38:Yes the parking was tight but managed to get my Mazda 6 in comfortably. . Staff were very friendly and obliging. The room (Art room) had an incredible view and was very well laid out. Dinner very good as was Breakfast. In the morning we had to leave the carpark by 11 but the hotel arranged for use to stay free of charge at the top of the hill. Added bonus that Doc Martin was being filmed in the hotel carpark and we had a ringside seat to watch,.

Review 39:The check in staff were not friendly. I arrived after 5 hrs of walking, sopping wet and was told the cleaning staff came late , so I had to wait 2 hrs to check in. My bag was not put in a secure spot. The bed had a metal frame like a kids bed. Not worthy of the price.

Review 40:It is located in the centre of town.

Review 41:We stayed for 1 night here in Port Isaac with our 1yr old daughter. Staff were lovely and helpful, very friendly, and spent time playing with our daughter when they saw us. Room a good size and very clean. Food was lovely with a good selection. Would highly recommend.

Review 42:No such a BAD experience but the walls of the bedrooms and general insulation are of such poor quality that you can hear people, talking, going to the bathroom and even snoring! So would not stay here again which is a pity as all other matters are perfect.

Review 43:Staff.

Review 44:Car parking, not for faint hearted drivers.

Review 45:Amazingly helpful & friendly staff & service from arrival to departure. Thanks you! Planned one night, ending up staying for three. Very good food. Great value. Historic building, sensitively adapted. Amazing cliff top views.

Review 46:There is not much not to like, it is a quite, small little hotel and has everything you need.

Review 47:the staff are really friendly and the hotel has fantastic views.

Review 48:The staff. They were all very friendly. We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant and we were not disappointed. Then in the morning we had an excellent breakfast

Review 49:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was brilliant as it is only a few minutes' walk to the village centre, and has wonderful views over the bay from the car park (our room also had a nice view from the window). Breakfasts good with lots of choice. It's also the only hotel in Port Isaac to have parking with it, so that was a big bonus.

Review 50:The original room was very small and did not have views, even though the sign out the front stated EVERY room has views, but on the next day, after I voiced my disappointment, the staff were only to obliging to move us to a room with views.

Review 51:The staff were very friendly.

Review 52:Nothing

Review 53:The views from our bedroom were fantastic they had fridge which was a bonus as we take wine with us food was excellent we will definitely return

Review 54:The biggest problem is the paper thin walls...you can hear every noise..the family upstairs kept us awake till 2am..wouldn't recommend a ground floor room...you can even here the toilet lid being closed....and every movement on the creepy floor boards we could plainly here the people above us talking.
