Reviews for The Edgemoor Country House Hotel And Restaurant
Review 1:Lovely Hotel set in its own grounds, relaxed friendly atmosphere in beautiful location. Staff were attentive and more than helpful. Clean and comfortable.
Review 2:The evening mean I had booked in the restaurant to entertain two clients was very poor quality steaks and liver which had to be returned, however the staff handles this well and were very apologetic and arranged a refund.
Review 3:Staff were very friendly.
Review 4:There was absolutely NOTHING to dislike - they thought of everything !!!
Review 5:The whole experience - the staff couldn't do enough - the dinner was superb - as was breakfast - and now we've discovered 'hogs pudding' would pass on the sausages and go for this in future !!! The thoughtfulness of tea - coffee etc in the room with biscuits - bottle of still water - and even pot of 'travel sweets' - all much appreciated and welcome !!
Review 6:Everything was great , I've given five *, for everything , if there was something I didn't like I would not have given five ,* Quit while you're ahead.
Review 7:Thin walls between rooms in dog friendly part.
Review 8:The staff were lovely & very helpful, welcoming for dogs & the rooms had access to dog friendly bit of lawn garden. Lovely old building lots of character. Great open fire in bar area.
Review 9:We chose this hotel for its closeness to Dartmoor and individual style. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We liked the choice of the formal restaurant or The School room pub, and the dinner and breakfast were superb.
Review 10:Inexplicably, the wifi did not work in my room (it did elsewhere) which was somewhat noisy as it was next to where the bins were.
Review 11:The courtesy and helpfulness of the staff and the quality of the food in the restaurant at dinner and breakfast.
Review 12:There was no one at reception when we arrived. We had to go looking for someone to book us in.
Review 13:The beds were very comfortable and the duvets were soft and cosy. It was a quiet location with a lovely garden in front. The food was excellent.Great attention to detail in the accessories provided and very good choice of teas and coffees.
Review 14:No bath in the room, too much whole grain mustard in the ham sandwiches. A little English mustard on the ham sandwiches should be on offer.
Review 15:The breakfast and friendliness if staff.
Review 16:We had one room with a pet and one without and both were equally as luxurious! We had a garden for the Dog which was handy. The surroundings were beautiful and we are planning to return.
Review 17:I believe they could improve their food menu. However when in Devon you have many wonderful pubs to visit
Review 18:The location is absolutely beautiful, wonderful staff, Very friendly.
Review 19:Owners and staff extremely friendly and very helpful. We took our 4 month old bloodhound, who although is very well behaved,is probably not everyone's cup of tea! They made a huge fuss of him and treated him like royalty. Thanks to everyone there. We will be back!
Review 20:Nothing
Review 21:Really lovely place. We were in one of the pet friendly rooms with our dog which was clean and spacious with a patio and grass area for the dog. They provided a towel, bowl and blanket for the dog. Food was excellent and staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Review 22:On arrival we had an slight issue with the room booked for us, so was given a free upgrade, staff so helpful and friendly, the grounds were amazingly kept and clean.
Review 23:Nothing about the hotel. It was great. The only downside (not the hotel's problem) was a very loud business conversation that dominated the breakfast room - inappropriate as well as annoying!
Review 24:Lovely building, spacious room and really relaxing place to be. All the staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly and the owner made a point of introducing himself as I sat enjoying the late afternoon sunshine with a glass of wine.
Review 25:My chainging rooms 3times in a week and my clothes being moved from one room to another without telling me what if their was any Money in my pockets.
Review 26:Food very good
Review 27:The design of the rooms, the care for detail, the friendly staff, the amazing pet friendly attitude, the thoughtful planning of the pet friendly rooms. Everything was amazing, I cannot wait to be back.
Review 28:Overcharged /incorrectly charged on bill for previous evening food-on query was refunded, but should not have happened. Bathroom spacious but no door separating it from bedroom, extractor fan not working and shower water pressure feeble. Constant hum noise can be heard in room from nearby kitchens in evening and morning.
Review 29:Nice garden/grounds , and with pottery workshop within. Hotel is interesting converted old school.
Review 30:I should have asked for a room with a bath, although the shower was double sized and supplied with plenty of hot water.
Review 31:Courtesy and efficiency of staff, cleanliness and comfort of the accommodation, quality and quantity of the food. All for a reasonable price.
Review 32:Two small points. The pillows were a little hard. The shower didn't have enough water pressure for a decent shower.
Review 33:Staff were very helpful and friendly - very relaxing
Review 34:The food experience was lacking. Quality of product and execution could have been better. Tough meat, soggy vegetables, served luke warm with little thought on presentation and lack of seasoning. Sorry but its the small details that will make you or break you... and this is an easy fix.
Review 35:Great location on the edge of the Dartmoor, you feel away from away from all the hubble and bubble. Friendly "family feel" run hotel. Accommodating and helpful colleagues. Experience was as expected. Service not particularly anticipatory but met the needs. Overall and enjoyable weekend..
Review 36:There is nothing about the Edgemoor that we didn't like.
Review 37:This hotel is by far the most welcoming for people travelling with a pet. Sadie (our Golden Retriever) was made to feel really welcome, with a rug, towel and bowl to use in our room.
Review 38:a mix up on my bill, but hopefully sorted now after a phone call to them
Review 39:first impressions on arrival were fantastic, that did not change during our stay. staff so friendly and helpful, especially tanita, (sorry if I got your name wrong)
Review 40:Absolutely brilliant stay, the staff couldn't have done more for us. Made my dog feel so welcome! The rooms were lovely, the food was gorgeous, the location was perfect for dog walking.
Review 41:The service was very poor. Only one person serving the whole hotel on the day we arrived despite having a conference there at the same time. He worked really hard and did his best but it was unfair on him. The bar area lacked warm furnishings and felt unwelcoming while there was no comfortable lounge area to relax in.
Review 42:Lovely location and the hotel looked great from outside. The food was excellent.
Review 43:A little basic for the money and maybe could have been a bit cleaner...bathroom not cleaned daily but think maybe this was a blip on the Sunday.
Review 44:Location is good and the breakfast was pretty good.
Review 45:One of our waitresses at breakfast looked like she'd no time to get ready for service with her hair flowing all over the place while serving .Bit odd in a hotel like that.
Review 46:The ambience and atmosphere of the old school turned hotel... beautifully done.
Review 47:Lovely meal at reasonable prices. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. We will definitely be returning as we enjoy our walks on Dartmoor.
Review 48:dogs in the hotel. people with dogs think that everyone loves them. I for one don't. they should not be allowed in anywhere , with food and drink.
Review 49:bedroom, breakfast. staff.
Review 50:Liked our room, clean, warm and good facilities, the shower was modern. The breakfast was tasty, we had the porridge and full breakfast. Service was polite, check out swift, pleasant stay
Review 51:Very friendly and accommodating team who did everything within their power to make our stay wonderful. We're vegetarian and we were invited to choose and adapt anything from the menu and consequently had just the dinner we were wanting. Lovely hotel, really nice room and great breakfast too.
Review 52:nothing
Review 53:We arrived early for check in and the owner was so gracious to check us in early and to upgrade our room. We had a wonderful stay and would certainly stay there again.
Review 54:The first room we were put in was at the back and without any blinds there was little privacy plus it was a noisy room. The corridors near to the room had a distinct doggy smell as the hotel does accept residents with their dogs.
Review 55:When we asked to move rooms we were immediately moved to the honeymoon suite which was a terrific gesture by the management. The whole atmosphere of the hotel was a good one.
Review 56:Having to leave.
Review 57:Edgemoor Country House Hotel was exactly what one would expect a Country House Hotel to be :- welcoming, comfortable, unpretentious, with a friendly staff who provided exceptional service and seemed to enjoy doing so. Breakfast and dinner of high standard. Ideally located in well maintained grounds. Would be keen to use again.

Review 59:Friendly greetings on arrival, excellent provision for guests with dogs. Restaurant staff welcoming and helpful with choosing meals. Lovely surroundings - good beer!
