Reviews for Port Gaverne Hotel

Review 1:Fantastic stay - lovely room with private balcony which was great for the dogs. The facilities were absolutely lovely - there was even a coffee machine in our room. Delicious food. Amazing brekkies - Cornish full fry for meaties and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon for me. The weather was wild which made it more special - more wonderful family memories gathered last weekend.

Review 2:friendly people, room was nice & clean with a nice view of the cove. good breakfast. we had room 4 nice bed but a bit short if you are over 6ft. but we still had a very enjoyable stay.

Review 3:Room 4 Pilchard in which we stayed, is immediately at the top of the stairs leading down to the bar. You can therefore hear all the noise and music from the bar very loudly. The staff are meticulous at closing the bar at 11pm, but if you prefer not to have to wait till then to go to sleep, do not stay in this room. Also, all the other rooms have to go past your door to get to theirs, so this adds to the noise. And the hotel allows pets, and we had someone going past the door with his dog in the middle of the night every night which also woke us up. All in all, not very conducive to a restful stay.

Review 4:Port Gaverne is a lovely hotel and the staff are amazing. Great atmosphere Excellent breakfast Lovely balcony for warmer months

Review 5:if i could just make one observation the menu could have done with a bit more variety... what we did have was very nice

Review 6:Friendly staff.. food lovely ... very clean

Review 7:Very steep stairs to bedrooms, which maybe a problem to some people. Although the food was excellent, a little more variety on the menu would have been nice as after 3 nights it got a bit boring.

Review 8:Stunning location. Lovely friendly place to stay. Beautiful room, with a balcony. Breakfast was one of the best we have ever had. Really enjoyed our stay.

Review 9:There was a real problem with damp in our bathroom and the drain smell was bad ever time we ran a tap or flushed the loo!

Review 10:Fantastic location and friendly helpful staff Excellent breakfast

Review 11:WE ASKED FOR 2 CREAM TEAS AND WERE TOLD THE SCONES WERE DUE OUT OF THE OVEN ANY MINUTE. HOWEVER THEY WERE NOT FRESH AND REHEATS FROM THE PREVIOUS DAY. I COMMENTED AND WAS ADVISED THE COST OF THE SCONES WOULD BE TAKEN OFF OUR BILL......HOWEVER WE WERE CHARGED £5 FOR A POT OF TEA FOR TWO. TOO EXPENSIVE. IN FACT ALL THE DRINKS WE FOUND EXPENSIVE ONLY REALISING WHEN WE PAID OUR BILL

Review 12:THE OVERALL AMBIENCE WAS EXCELLENT AND VERY RELAXING. GOOD WEATHER WOULD HAVE HELPED

Review 13:We had a lovely stay, the room was a superior double and was a great size with everything we needed. The hotel was spotlessly clean. We would definitely stay there again

Review 14:We found the food portions a little on the small side for the price .

Review 15:the location was as expected and very pleasing , the room was comfortable and very clean. Staff friendly and accommodating. Food was very nice.

Review 16:Staff where very helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough to help us. The area is very quiet and although we had bad weather it didn't really matter too much.

Review 17:Staff where polite and friendly, location was amazing and food was outstanding, we could have eaten in the hotel every day if it wasn't for all the other great restaurants in the area

Review 18:just car parking was too limited

Review 19:really comfortable and welcoming hotel. the staff could not do enough for you. The food was excellent, we had dinner and a fantastic breakfast.

Review 20:We did suffer from plumbing problems i.e. No hot water!

Review 21:The location of the hotel was perfect. Access to Port Isaac was just a short stroll away. The atmosphere and quality of food and drink was excellent.

Review 22:I thought the price of their food in restaurant & bar was very overpriced. The quality was good but pricey for what it was.

Review 23:All ofThe staff were extremely helpful & polite, Nothing was too much trouble for them.every where was very clean. The breakfast was superb.

Review 24:Thin staircase + suitcase was somewhat annoying. Suspect if it was busy you'd have issues with parking

Review 25:Fairly nice location, friendly staff, small friendly feel. Nice restaurant.

Review 26:Parking (even motorcycle) away from hotel, Wifi connection not very stable at times

Review 27:Very friendly staff & management very keen to please guests, food, room, location

Review 28:In room 5 the plumbing was very noisy, the shower alternated between freezing cold and burning hot and the hot bath tap was loose making it difficult to turn it on.

Review 29:The location suited us. The staff were friendly and the food was good.

Review 30:We had a lovely stay in a well decorated and clean room. All the saff were very helpful. We had an exceptional meal and breakfast in the dinning room. Thank you went away feeling relaxed and well rested.

Review 31:We were lead to believe that the hotel was situated in Port Isaac. Our friends are not able to walk up hills !!

Review 32:The food was good and the bed very comfortable

Review 33:We were welcomed to this beautiful old inn by friendly staff. The location was perfect and the room were spacious, newly refurbished and very clean. The robes and slippers were an extra touch. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent!!!! We will definitely return.

Review 34:The room was amazing, clean, cosy, and there was a bathrobe & coffee machine which we liked. The bar was warm & cosy and the staff friendly & helpful. The location is perfect & close to Port Isaac

Review 35:Charming old hotel, great pub area and beautiful dining rooms with fire places. Loved the area - Port Isaac was within walking distance. Very comfortable and clean accommodations. Wonderful food - breakfast was great but dinner was incredible.

Review 36:The shower was the most unrelaxing experience as it kept going scorching hot then cold. The toilet when flushed made a horrendous noise!

Review 37:Lovely place with a fantastic location a 5 minute walk to port Isaac along the cliff top! Staff are friendly and welcoming. Food was amazing especially the included options for breakfast!

Review 38:Pretty little village with very attractive sea inlet and excellent walks along the coastal paths. Room ok, well priced. Good menu with good cooking. Attractive"pubby" rooms.

Review 39:The very steep stairs would be a problem for some - particularly if staying on the second floor.....

Review 40:Newly refurbished room - extremely attractive and spotlessly clean

Review 41:Delightful historic character hotel in quiet bay right next to busy Port Isaac Bay. Restaurant served delicious food and all staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely walking tracks around the cliffs and stunning scenery. Really enjoyed our stay here, very restful and a great location to use as a base to explore Cornwall.

Review 42:Terribly small room with worn out bed and no shower. Management were bullish toward staff and rather unfriendly towards customers. Food was very bland and over priced as was the hotel in general. 4 star price, 2.5 star quality.

Review 43:Location right by the sea

Review 44:Staff were very nice. Lovely short walk over to Port Isaac. Pleaseantly surprised by the full sky in the room. Also the upstairs, outdoor area is very nice. Ideal for a short break. We would definitely go again.

Review 45:Insufficient car spaces provided the Shuttle taxi advertised did not arrive. Breakfast took over an hour to be served which held us up.

Review 46:The quirky pub atmosphere & locale to Port Isaac was what we were looking for.

Review 47:I am a travel agent and I think the hotel is very overpriced and the facilities etc are certainly not up to the price

Review 48:The staff and management very helpful and friendly. Couldn't fault them but as it was our anniversary I had built up my expectations from the photos and the rooms were not as shown

Review 49:Just felt the building could use a bit of maintenance..light bulbs not bright, tap not right, dresser drawer broken.

Review 50:Very good staff and general atmosphere of the place. Totally suitable for its wonderful location.

Review 51:Lovely atmosphere throughout hotel. Great helpful & cheerful staff. Had wonderful evening meal with 4 friends in restaurant - inventive menu that worked & was perfect for all of us! Great beer garden too.

Review 52:Wove been nice to have a shower in the bathroom, only for quickness but the room was lovely with great views

Review 53:The staff were amazing! So helpful and friendly, lovely hotel. Lovely location!! Great food, would recommend

Review 54:Greater allergy advice on the menu is required.

Review 55:Friendly staff, good quality food with decent portions and a very lovely room with en suite. Decoration in the bar and dining area was traditional but the room and en suite was modern clean and crisp. Enjoyed our stay very much. The local beer was excellent!

Review 56:A little pricey

Review 57:Wonderful location and a popular inn for both locals and travellers. The atmosphere was charming and the food was great - but make sure you book early as it is popular. .Nice country pub feel and a fantastic position close to beach cove and a 10 minute walk to Port Isaac.

Review 58:The bed was horrible! Breakfast on the 2nd morning was not good. I plate had hair swirled in the egg bread and the other was one was an omelette that was so burnt it had to be sent back. Otherwise all the other food was great.

Review 59:Excellent customer service from every member of staff. Atmosphere was lovely. Great decor. Bathroom very clean.

Review 60:Friendly cozy inn on a picturesque fishing cove near Port Isaac. Wonderful pub/restaurant, great atmosphere, lovely staff. Charming rooms. Ours had a sea view, and every comfort, including bathrobes and a Nespresso machine!

Review 61:Having to leave

Review 62:Our room with balcony the superb staff especially Chris and the chefs. Our first class lobster Thermidor. Our lovely waitresses for all meals

Review 63:Noise, plumbing very old made terrible noise, stairs are dangerous, not a proper shower head, carpet very dirty upstairs

Review 64:Location and friendly staff expect Manageress who was very sour

Review 65:We could hear the water tap running and toilet flushing from next door or upstairs. I was a little bit disturded by the noise during late night.

Review 66:The location was good. The hotel is just by the port and the area was very nice. The manager and the staffs of the hotel were very friendly and they gave us information of the area. We had oyster, lobster and chips for dinner which was very delicious. Fantastic!

Review 67:Bed was a little too firm, but that is just our personal preference.

Review 68:Staff were fantastic, friendly and accomodating, especially as we were travelling with our toddler!

Review 69:Nothing except the rain on one day but that is Cornwall for you!

Review 70:Perfectly situated, beautiful setting. Delicious food in relaxed and comfortable surroundings. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.

Review 71:Brilliant location, food was lovely, although we had to wait an hour for the food to arrive. Most of the staff were very friendly but a couple were a little less approachable.

Review 72:Poor facilities - no lounge area, inadequate parking, poor wifi and we had a small uncomfortable double bed.

Review 73:Great location in a pleasant part of Cornwall. The hotel serves good food and has a nice bar area that is well frequented by locals and guests.

Review 74:Very steep stairs. Staff very friendly but apart from manager you never saw the same person twice!

Review 75:Location - very handy for St Endellion. Car parking available Food in restaurant wonderful

Review 76:Limited parking close to the hotel. Water coming though the ceiling during breakfast, we stayed another night, but they did not do anything about it.

Review 77:The room was large and it had a sitting area. The bed was comfortable. Even though the restaurant and pub was downstairs, we did not hear it. The pub has a lot of small dining areas. Many tv-channels.

Review 78:There isn't much to do at Port Gaverne but walk. We had to park in the overflow carpark which was very isolated and up a very steep hill. Luckily we were able to move the car after spaces became available. Room was small but had access to a nice terrace which unfortunately was next to extraction fan from kitchen. Next room had 2 dogs that barked but management dealt with it after we complained.

Review 79:The access to Port Isaac was wonderful and lots of lovely walks. Beautiful scenery.

Review 80:We enjoyed our stay and the location was good the staff were verypleasant Im sorry to say this but the truth is the accommodation was notValue for money. We booked 4 B&Bs over 3 weeks this was the mostexpensive of all and the others beat it hands up in every area. Thebreakfast wasn't poor but very average. We were on holiday and neverquibble over money but the drinks were expensive. You need to read lotsof the reviews to see this is said often we are not skinflints. Its notin my nature to be negative and enjoyed my holiday but the reason forthese reviews is for honest opinions and mine is very honest

Review 81:Do not have room 5 it was tiny, right above outside seating area and next door to private dining room, very very noisy. Shower pressure kept coming and going so couldn't have a decent shower and toilet made a loud noise when flushed. Was not worth the £150 we paid.

Review 82:Location and food were excellent, friendly staff

Review 83:Nothing really; my emails couldn't be sent (they were received) but maybe there are difficulties in that relatively remote location sometimes? I liked the place as a genuine English country pub

Review 84:Quirky, enjoyable English pub. It is only about 400m from Port Isaac, the "Port Wenn" of the Doc Martin series..and is on a typical cliffs and coves part of the Cornish coast. I also enjoyed an Australian-style pub crawl with three locals!

Review 85:Although the room included extras such as coffee maker, dressing gowns etc it was quite a small room and a bit overcrowded with furniture.

Review 86:The hotel is full of character and in a superb location and the breakfast and dinner were both excellent.

Review 87:Cost of rooms getting just a little to high and food although good at the top end of price line for pub food not just at this pub but all over north Cornwall

Review 88:What a great place to wake up go for a stroll around the bay or over to Port Issac a wonderful time we had

Review 89:I am an older lady and the car park was about 2 blocks from hotel and I had carry my own bags to the hotel. In the afternoon the hotel was short staffed. My room was on the 3rd floor (nice view) but stairs were difficult to navigate with my bags. Locations of rooms should be noted when booking.

Review 90:Shower unit too temperamental changing from very hot to cold. Hard to get it just right. Seating in the bar areas little uncomfortable could do with a bit more for your bottom to sit on. Evening meal was a little overpriced on the starters and sweets. No need for 3x cooked chips. Just do them once but use could quality potatoes.

Review 91:Our room was spacious and comfortable bed. Staff were very freindly and the Guinness was in good order. Breakfast was very good quality.

Review 92:Be prepared for narrow, winding roads if driving

Review 93:Great location, super friendly staff, great atmosphere. Food was excellent. Short walk to Port Isaac . Decor was charming

Review 94:Charged us twice for our stay. When refunded, lost on the exchange rate. Management declined to give us the difference. Left a sour taste in my mouth.

Review 95:Location superb - both picturesque and close to water and town.

Review 96:Our room was on top floor and had sloping walls over our twin beds. Rafter was in the middle and hence difficult to maneuver into one bed. Bath tub had a hand shower but no shower curtain

Review 97:Breakfast was great. Evening meal also good though my side veggie was replaced without asking me. Nice seating outside hotel, very pubby inside - but cozy.

Review 98:Port Isaac places may have a bit of Doc Martin add on prices.

Review 99:Very nice location just walking distance from Port Isaac. Nice room with a balcony and sea view. Frendly staff.

Review 100:1st.night ,dreadful room in Attic. Hot & no headroom. Moved next day to much better room at the back with no view. Car park some distance away.

Review 101:Friendly Australian staff on arrival. Quiet at night.

Review 102:Parking is a problem which was not made clear before arrival. Noise from patrons sitting out side talking and drinking after closing time, with no regards to those staying in the Hotel.

Review 103:Staff are excellent, particularly the staff who waited breakfast. If breakfast was anything to go by the food is of a very high standard.

Review 104:Seems expensive for a basic pub/Hotel most rooms have no views. The hotel is a bit tired.

Review 105:Location is good, very close to bay and only short walk to Port Isaac. Food in bar and restaurant was good and good value.

Review 106:Charming restaurant staff and good quality food, fabulous peaceful location on south west coast path. Parking and wifi both easy. Light, clean and well ventilated bedroom.

Review 107:Parking difficult. Considering ours was a superior room we didn't think it was so marvellous. Expensive for what it was although we know it;s an expensive area..

Review 108:Wonderful location. Charm and atmosphere of the old building. Good food. Lovely view of sea. Great area for a holiday.

Review 109:Small room on third floor. Narrow stairs very hard to climb up and down.

Review 110:Location. You can't drive in Port Issac and the hotel is on the fringe. Easy in and out and easy to walk through the village. For Doc Martin fans this is a super place. Staff was super friendly

Review 111:Loved the decor of my room, my comfy bed, the friendly staff, the location right next to the beach, the food. The pub and restaurant had a lovely old feel to it with quirky rooms tucked away round corners; obviously a good local reputation because it was busy at night. The staff were really lovely-so friendly and helpful.

Review 112:Manageress ignored us at bar and at no time did she make eye contact or say good morning etc. No customer service although Australian girl very helpful and pleasant.

Review 113:Location was very pretty.

Review 114:Terrible parking and no helpful suggestions from staff. In general, the staff was not informative or accessible.

Review 115:Large room, great breakfast, good location.

Review 116:Our room was very small and didn't even have a chair in it, nothing like the photos advertised. Car parking was always a concern. However we always managed to find a place. I was surprised that there is no lift or stairlift for those who need one. As all the rooms appear to be upstairs I would have thought it a necessity.

Review 117:Location.

Review 118:Delightful room and bath. Manager, Chris, was very helpful with a scheduling difficulty. The Pub was delightful. Everything we would have envisioned.

Review 119:We didn't dislike anything... just wished I had legs of an athlete to cope with the hills. Although the slope from Port Gaverne to Port Isaac is not as bad as it looks!

Review 120:We only discovered this idyllic area due to the Doc Martin TV series... so we decided to holiday here and take in the walks, scenery and wonderful pubs.

Review 121:Nothing we didn't like.

Review 122:Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Dinner was good, although the portions were perhaps on the small side. Room and bathroom were spotless and beds comfortable. Wifi was super fast and reliable. Very quiet in the room even though the hotel was quite full in the bar and dining room.

Review 123:unfortunately the Hotel had a problem with their boiler, and we had no hot water or heating, and as they were full we had to leave after one night. They could not apologize enough, but we would like return another time.

Review 124:Very cosy hotel, over-looking the bay, the staff made us very welcome, lovely restaurant. Nice bedroom with a big bed, which was very comfortable.

Review 125:Great location, within 10 mins walk of Port Isaac. It's actually a friendly pub with good food. Breakfast was great and there's full Sky package on the TV

Review 126:Nothing at all, but if I was to gripe I would mention the. Hafge

Review 127:Amazing service, fantastic menu, great features like being able to order single oysters and very impressive wine list.

Review 128:Should have realised that there would be steep stairs to drag up the luggage. In hindsight, would have packed a smaller overnight bag for the stay. Our twin room was quite small, but the fact that the bed was the best I'd slept in for weeks I would drag them up again.

Review 129:Beautiful hotel with atmosphere and good food.
