Reviews for Midgley Lodge Motel & Golf Course
Review 1:The set up is odd. It is like a series of semi-houses with bedrooms on each of two floors. I was on the ground floor. The occupiers of the upper floor bedroom seemed to walk and pace all night. The floor boards are creaky and the walls are thin so it was not great really. My sleep was disturbed and they were up and off long before dawn having creaked and showered and run the bath and used the toilet. I hope reader you get the picture. The weather was very poor that night and the wind howled and the room was cold as the heating goes off. The food at the adjacent restaurant/pub/ It closed at 9,30 was very poor and the customer service was even worse. I struggled to be paid a refund for an inedible steak pie and the waiting on staff were untrained. Not a great experience overall and not one sadly I would repeat.
Review 2:the breakfast arrangements exceeded all the rest of the experience. This was served in the small golf clubhouse and was well served and fresh and hot.
Review 3:If the weather had been better we may have taken the opportunity to use the golf course, however, we believe this would have been an added extra which we felt could have been discounted with the accommodation.
Review 4:The hotel location, the scenery and friendly professional staff.
Review 5:Bed mattress too firm. I woke up aching in the morning. The quilt was thick and extremely heavy. Far too hot.
Review 6:Friendly staff. Lovely cooked breakfast. Spacious room Large TV well positioned to view from bed.
Review 7:Shower door kept falling off, even though tried to be fixed by the maintenance man. Because of remote location, evening meals had to be relied on from neighbouring pub, the Black Bull, which was abysmal
Review 8:Location, view of countryside, layout of the accommodation ......and the breakfast
Review 9:i didn't arrive until very late but i was assured someone would wait up to check me into my room. the breakfast next morning was the hottest and freshest you could ask for
Review 10:Good location, convenient for the places I wanted to visit eg Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The room I occupied had pleasant views across the local countryside.
Review 11:Nothing bad to say.
Review 12:Easy, comfortable accommodation in lovely countryside. Very quiet at night. Awesome mattress - best we have ever encountered. We liked the generous layout of the flat-like room we were in, and that we could park about 20 feet from our room. Lots of privacy, and the concept of the little 'blocks' of rooms is quirky and really nice. Perfect for the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Review 13:The Hotel did not have a record of our booking and did not have a room until they moved other guests around.
Review 14:It was close to where the function we were attending was.
Review 15:A teeny bit faded. Pink bathroom suite but clean.
Review 16:Big room and bathroom. Parking right outside. Lovely view over the golf course. Handy for lots of pubs with good food and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Review 17:Only one low point was the people in the room above us who talked half the night.
Review 18:Our room was spacious and spotless. Sarah made us feel welcomed and couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 19:The decor is a little old fashioned but we would still thoroughly recommend the hotel.
Review 20:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were really comfortable with everything in the right place. For once, I could look in the mirror while drying my hair!.The accommodation offers great value for money.
Review 21:No major negatives only minor niggles because nowhere is perfect. The room was a bit chilly on check-in. OK when heating came on. Think the property is a little over-priced for what it is. Don't think it is 4* by any stretch of the imagination.
Review 22:Staff friendly and helpful. Lovely individually cooked breakfast but is at extra cost. Quiet location overlooking golf course. Right next door to a lovely pub.
Review 23:We stayed at the lodge for a long weekend in March. Whilst we appreciate that this was low season it was surprising to see that the bar closed very early (9pm), and the adjoining pub, the Black Bull closed at 10pm.
Review 24:The location was perfect and provided us with the perfect base to explore the Yorkshire countryside and especially the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Review 25:Someone decided to whack their car door into my hire car and ran away leaving me with a hefty repair bill. Not the lodges fault but cctv on the car park might have helped.
Review 26:Nice and quiet, comfortable rooms and beds. Staff very friendly
Review 27:Room needed a bit of TLC. Noisy plumbing and taps difficult to turn right off.
Review 28:Location was excellent and the golf course was was a bonus scenery-wise. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast. The pub next door served good food and a decent range of beers. Didn't play golf but tempted by a weekend deal they do. Not bad at the price
Review 29:heating and hot water failed the night we arrived and didn't get fixed during the weekend we were there. No hot water by Sunday.
Review 30:nice quiet location good views
Review 31:Too cold on the first night and they couldn't do anything about it. Put two quilts on to keep warm.
Review 32:Lovely and warm on the second night. They left the heating on all day to make sure
Review 33:( Won't apply to all ) I had to travel via the M1 roadworks to Leeds. Painful. Ok if going elsewhere. No evening food. Pub served food, but chips with everything type of food.
Review 34:Room size, comfort, good breakfast. Pub within 20 metres. Great if you are a golfer.
Review 35:bit old fashioned decor, all looking a bit tired.
Review 36:staff were friendly and helpful, room was quiet and spacious, beautiful views out over the golf-course
Review 37:Breakfast was disgusting and shocking how they can stick on an additional charge for something that looked like it had been cooked and reheated about 4 times
Review 38:Location was good and easy access to motorway.
Review 39:It is a little bit out of the way of the centre - if you have a car this wouldn't be a problem however local taxis seem to be unreliable and although we had booked ours 3 hours in advance for a set time they were 25 minutes late and unapologetic for it.
Review 40:The staff were really lovely, the bed was so comfortable and the location (apart from the taxi issues) was scenic and lovely to wake up in the morning to. All in all a comfortable, good-value for money stay. Would stay again!
Review 41:The shower cubicle was very small. The jet of water from the shower was not very strong. Bath Towels were small.
Review 42:Breakfast was good Situation was very pleasant Easy access from motorway
Review 43:Bit neglected. Window lock hanging off, noisy plumbing, leaking radiator, dripping tap. Otherwise a good night's sleep and lovely view.
Review 44:Location, nice decor and furnishings..
Review 45:Beds old. Springs noisy and smaller bed mattress so old tipped to one side, nearly fell out of bed. Bathroom exhaust too noisy. Door stopper on floor in front of shower and we stepped on it and hurt our feet
Review 46:Nice setting and friendly staff. Room decorated nicely.
Review 47:Nothing to do with our stay. We returned at 18.30 to freshen up andleave car. We then went to reception to ring for taxi to bagdon hall.Taxi was there quite quick. However he charged us £15 for a 5 minjourney it is 3-5 miles. We got a return one from reception st Bagdonhall at midnight which cost us £5. So beware and check 1st. I rang taxifirm next day and complained. They confirmed I had been overcharged
Review 48:We couldn't get in at Bagdon Hall we were there all day. I lookedfor alternative and I am glad I did. Our stay at Midgley lodge waslovely we checked in on our way to our wedding very quick room ready anvery clean. Breakfast was superb and plentyfull. Staff very good.

Review 51:Dusty in places Generally tired and dated décor Water didn't work! Pricey for the reality of the place
Review 52:Linen was clean Staff friendly and helpful Beautiful views Moved our room no hassle
Review 53:Very quiet although on a main road. Room excellent, with a bath (quite rare these days). Main attraction was the location, set on a ridge with a view over half of England. Just sit on the stoop, supping your beer, watching golfers make a mess of their tee shots. Perfect.
