Reviews for The Longcross Hotel And Gardens
Review 1:Shame about the facilities in the room as the main hotel was closed, a fridge & microwave were supplied but no plates or bowls for cereal or any food & only enough milk to make 2 coffees! Also a lot of cobwebs.
Review 2:Pretty location.
Review 3:Not a bad experience, but, because we were staying out of season, the restaurant and bar in the main hotel were not open.
Review 4:We were upgraded to a larger unit on the property. Very clean, quiet and comfortable. Peek a boo ocean views. We were well located for day trips to Port Isaac and Tintagel, and evening meals at a lovely pub in St. Kew.
Review 5:Cannot find anything I didn't like
Review 6:I liked the lodge we stayed in it was comfortable, clean, warm, plenty of hot water, had washing machine (we didn't use) and dishwasher.
Review 7:Great atmosphere in the main building. The outer building where we stayed lacked character and shower very weak. Good location and lovely breakfast. Peaceful, warm and welcoming
Review 8:The room was tired and there were cobwebs and mold in the bathroom. The heating only came on a certain times which meant the room was often quite cold.
Review 9:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was delicious.
Review 10:The only reason I have marked them down was because the shower wasn't great. Not overly powerful but was no deal breaker.
Review 11:Friendly staff. Beautiful view from our room. Lovely breakfast. Very comfy bed.
Review 12:It was a long walk into central Port Isaac so we needed to drive.
Review 13:My room was beautiful. I upgraded it a few days before we visited and am glad I did. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 14:It is a tad expensive compared to other places we have stayed but overall a lovely hotel.
Review 15:It is a 10 minute drive from Port Issac and we spent all our time there. The hotel is lovely and the food is amazing. Not cheap but value for money and breakfast is the best we've had.
Review 16:Bedroom not very clean when we moved settee to watch TV we found floor covered with dead flies and there were cobwebs.
Review 17:The position was good and staff friendly.
Review 18:The hotel is very tired & dated. Poor decoration in places. Our room was also very cold and we had to ask for the heating to be turned on. I paid extra for a sea view & whilst I did see the sea, I had to look past an ugly corrugated roof and extractor fan first which detracted form the views i had expected to see considering I'd paid extra for it.
Review 19:The staff were helpful in organising a taxi for us in the evening and breakfast was lovely.
Review 20:We stayed in the lodge, and it was amazing. Modern, clean, and warm, with all required amenities. I would recommend this as a great spot for many north coast sites to see.
Review 21:No really BAD experiences, more a word of caution. Room 14 is on the ground floor and other guests walk past the room and the bathroom - need to keep the blinds down if you like privacy. Although only a couple of miles from Port Isaac (Wenn) this hotel is fairly remote. You wont be strolling along to the local pubs and restaurants unless you are very strong walkers.
Review 22:The twin beds were comfortable, the breakfast was good, the evening meal was ok given the very limited choice. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The bathroom door handle was coming off but was fixed within an hour of reporting it.
Review 23:I was disappointed that there was no lift for heavy suitcases. The hotel was a little run down, with carpet stains and some areas needing attention and there were a lot of environmental etc notices aimed at guests, which proved a little irritating. One evening meal was very overcooked, the other was undercooked.
Review 24:Proximity to Port Isaac.
Review 25:Really enjoyed the breakfast. Lovely food and a great atmosphere in the dining room. Slightly obscure place to get to but worth it for beautiful coast views. Very helpful staff.
Review 26:TV too small and wires hanging all over the place. Windows needed cleaning, floor dirty. The entire facility has a decrepit look about it. The garden is a write off it may have been good once but not now. Not good value for money
Review 27:The Shower,
Review 28:first night booked room in dungeon. Stunk badly. Moldy. Didnt want to even use shower. Owner is the check in person he didnt care and was barely tolerable. Maybe thats why its for sale. waiters were wonderful. second night stayed upstairs in premium room which was much better. Beautiful location.
Review 29:Excellent food in restaurant, nice lounge. great service.
Review 30:Mold on walls in bathroom. Wall to wall carpeting in bathroom. Still using skeletal keys,at night you have to luck yourself in.Two of 4 outlets didn't work.
Review 31:Breathtaking views if you are lucky enough to have a room with a view. Great free breakfast. Short, beautiful walk to Port Isaac. Large rooms.
Review 32:the bar closing at 11 pm on there booking .com page they state check in by 9 pm when we got there you go to bar and check in which would have saved us rushing about to get there by that time
Review 33:the location etc the staff friendly also the guest seamed friendly might be due to staffs attitude friendly
Review 34:Restaurant needed a good clean, some staff were not very accommodating.
Review 35:Receptionist was very unfriendly and not customer friendly. Breakfast were tasty but tea and coffee poor quality not enough choice on cereal . Not enough bread put out for breakfast
Review 36:the breakfast was a surprise. Self serve of all but the main course was home style but not in a good way. The fruit was tasteless and everything else was from a packet. We had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon as our main course and it was very basic. Refills of coffee were help yourself from the counter so service was minimal. In general service was matter of fact in delivery with little effort by what appeared to be a male only staff. An offer was made to help with the bags when we checked in but there was nobody there when we brought the bags in from the car. A little effort would turn this around.
Review 37:Nice bed
Review 38:Unfortunately due to a wedding party the night before, there was no cream tea items or bar foods that could be served when we arrived. A packet of crisps had to suffice.
Review 39:Restaurant Food very good. Staff friendly.
Review 40:Thought that the lodge was not up to standard regarding cleanliness as the patio and patio furniture was dirty and the lodge and patio windows were also in need of a clean. Cobwebs were plentiful in the hotel dining room!
Review 41:Nice location and friendly staff. Stayed in the Luxury Lodge which was very nicely appointed and in a nice location within the hotel grounds. Dog was made welcome and few pet restrictions.
Review 42:The room size was very small and the bed was terrible, couldnt sleep . Were moved the next night to a much better room .
Review 43:The kitchen staff especially the spanish guy was really good. Friendly and helpfull.
Review 44:Breakfast: average (exceptionally poor quality tea & coffee) in awkwardly laid-out room. Seriously over-stretched staff airing grievances re both customers & management in public bar. Coach-house:v poor noise insulation between floors; ill-fitting bedroom doors; grubby carpet,. Six people, as advertised, wd struggle to share (one bathroom & small sitting room).
Review 45:Location. Terrace with good views. Comfortable beds. Ample parking.Pet-/child-friendly.
Review 46:room was disappointing. Bed was very uncomfortable.I do not think the room I was allocated was anything like the photos on Booking.com.
Review 47:Food was excellent
Review 48:Nothing.
Review 49:Wonderful views, room, food & service. An excellent pampering, Would recommend highly for a touch of class. Would be a lovely romantic getaway.
Review 50:The restaurant and food service people took great care to make sure our every needs were met. They squeezed us in when we didn't have reservations, and were charming and engaging.
Review 51:No wifi available away from main hotel but this is a very minor issue.
Review 52:Had the garden suite which was quiet and comfortable. Staff were all friendly and attentive.
Review 53:The distance from port isaac itself.
Review 54:The range of drinks at the bar, the helpfulness of the staff, the shower in the suite, plenty of parking, pool table.
Review 55:No WiFi in room, it was only available in the reception area and even than not strong. The room was hot and stuffy, windows very small and no air conditioning. Hot water not very hot only just warm for night time shower. Room description said sea view, only through one 35cm window that did not open. Generally the whole hotel is in need of maintenance and up grading.
Review 56:The room was generally clean.
Review 57:Travelling from Australia some laundry facilities closer than Wadebridge would have been appreciated - approx. 10 miles. Also a computer to be able to check my emails - we had to travel to Wadebridge.
Review 58:The locality and atmosphere which was friendly and relaxed.
Review 59:As a solo traveller I found it expensive as I had to pay the double room rate for two people. The wifi didn't work well but that is not the fault of the hotel, it's the area.
Review 60:I loved the fact that dogs were allowed although £10 per day per dog is quite expensive. Good location and lovely friendly staff.
Review 61:one dinner was ruined by a large birthday party at dinner with young children continually running about the restaurant, inside and outside
Review 62:the situation
Review 63:on arrival the receptionist was borderline rude, was not welcoming at all the room was dirty, the Carpet had dirty marks on and in need of an update the room did not reflect the price
Review 64:the Bar and staff, the breakfast was very good and the service excellent
Review 65:If we booked earlier maybe a larger room.
Review 66:Lovely location, very friendly staff, room was quite small but perfect seeing as we booked so last minute.the food was really nice and they were very dog friendly. Would definitely recommend
Review 67:No lock on door to bedroom despite requesting this be sorted. For some strange reason there was a mat at at top of stairs creeping to edge v dangerous pointed this out but no action - really too bad! Sheet too small on bed. Menu choice limited and v expensive for what it was. Dining area lack lustre not even a flower on the table later in week. V soft bed not good if back a problem .
Review 68:Good size room great views from deck.
Review 69:Very poor dining experience in the evening. The building is run down and although the service was friendly and helpful we could not relate the average score compared to other places we have used through Booking.com
Review 70:Parking in residents' area should have been blocked off from guests at a private function.
Review 71:Hotel with fabulous views of the coast from the restaurant & decking areas. Terrific breakfasts with lots of choice.
Review 72:we were on the ground floor of the Coach House which in itself was not a problem at all however, the main doors into the building are incredibly noisy and pedestrian walking was loud. Also, not too sound proof from upstairs guests. Would request main bldg next time.
Review 73:ease of finding the property -well sign posted. location very attractive vista from balcony impressive
Review 74:Although we had booked a standard double room, the room was very basic .a motorway type hotel we had stayed in the previous two nights was moreluxurious. We had arrived late at night after getting lost and wereinformed that there was no one available to make us a simple sandwich.nosoap in ladies toilet.
Review 75:Staff pleasant. Tasty breakfasts.
Review 76:Leaving
Review 77:We stayed in Woodland Lodge. Loved space. View across field with sun setting, gardens, We chose it for location.and self catering at a great price. Walked to Port Issac and Quin. Easy drive Wadebridge and Padstow for Camel Trail, Tintagel for historyand Polzeath and Rock for beach
Review 78:Garden in need of some TLC
Review 79:Hotel, a converted old English home was a little run down, and in need of some refurbishment. Staff and Food were excellent
Review 80:Can't think of a thing I didn't like!
Review 81:Gorgeous view, charming room, very good food (dinner & breakfast), and a delightful garden - great stay!
Review 82:This is an old character building, but very badly maintained and room was small and have basic and cheap furnishings. Bed was small and uncomfortable. Was told it was an antique bed, but the mattress seemed to be as well! Shame that the other furniture was not 'antique', as it was cheap tacky stuff and a mis-match of different types and makes. Not worth the money they charge. You can get far better for much cheaper. Breakfast was ok, but average and again not fitting of the price charged.
Review 83:Nice grounds and position on hill outside Port Isaac.
Review 84:Where do we start, everything was top draw! We stayed in the Woodland Lodge was ideal accommodation offering great facilities as well as a peaceful place for us to relax and unwind. The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating if you needed anything all you had to do was ask and every effort was made to go that extra mile. A huge thank you goes to James, Michael and all the staff for a superb holliday.
Review 85:My bedroom was tiny. The mattress was larger than the box springs and resulted in me on the floor. The gardens looked rather untended.
Review 86:The view from the dining room and patio was worth the whole visit. The staff are delightful and efficient. The dinners were excellent.
Review 87:Arrived and the staff at long cross weren't at the front desk. Queued at the bar for 10-15 minutes to be told no one else was being checked in today, oh wait, yeah someone is. Shown to our room which was in the eaves. Shower wasn't full height and bathroom was very clumsily put together. The light fitting was covered in cob webs and dead flies. The room itself was shabby, wall paper was coming off, huge cracks in the paint work. Divan base was stained and looked extremely wel used, bed was squishy and gave us both back ache. Another guest had burnt out the kettle so e couldn't have a hot drink, cables running around the bed, and no mention of how much breakfast was or whether it was included or what was on offer so we took off in the morning as soon as we can. For £90 a night we could've stayed somewhere really lovely and I was so disappointed that we chose longcross. When I emailed longcross saying that I was concerned and hadn't had a great time they didn't acknowledge any fault. Instead they suggested I should go again, pay another £90 but get upgraded to a nicer room.. Not exactly what I was looking for and really disappointed after seeing good reviews.
Review 88:Location is locely
Review 89:There was no wifi in the lodge but you had it in the hotel.
Review 90:We stayed for a 6 night break in the woodland lodge both me and my patner had a excellent stay we had our own parking and was right in the countryside which we both love the lodge was clean n you had everything you could need with your own private patio too and for our first time in cornwall we can truly say we are going back.the staff were very helpful and very friendly too.
Review 91:Our room and bathroom were very small and had no view. If we stayed again we would make sure we had a better room.
Review 92:Location, gardens and views wonderful. Staff really helpful.
Review 93:No bad experience at all
Review 94:Ideal location, within easy reach of Port Isaac and surrounding areas.Staff very friendly and helpful and our evening meal was exellent. Before we left, we booked a 3 night stay in September for myself, wifeand her parents. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotelto anyone.
Review 95:Wife is slow but then if you can't cope without wi Fi for a short while you should not be holidaying in Cornwall.
Review 96:Location is beautiful. Staff very friendly and helpful without being overbearing. The hotels secret gardens are outstanding.
Review 97:When we booked online it wasn't clear that we would be staying in the Coach House rather than the actual Hotel. Therefore, it was a disappointed to us on arrival when we were directed to our room. It was very clean & tidy but the wooden floorboards throughout created a fair amount of noise.
Review 98:Gardens were lovely and the views quite special
Review 99:We booked a three bedroom room, the only downside of this room is that the bed size in the twin room is a bit too small. But we thought maybe these beds are for kids not for any adult!!!
Review 100:Staffs are quite friendly, helpful and efficient. And the guest house is located in a beautiful place with everything you need. I hope I can stayed here longer!!!
Review 101:Seems so minor...the wifi connection was weak in the room
Review 102:Loved the look of place, the ambience, the staff, the adorable room under the eaves, the food.
Review 103:The staff were helpful and welcoming. JQ was always happy and friendly and was over the moon with his picture of him and doc martin. James was also very friendly and helped make our stay a very happy one.The food was excellent and we ate every night at the hotel. The menu changes every day so a meal is not to be missed
Review 104:As an awkward gluten-free vegetarian, the staff bent over backwards to accommodate me. The cooking was delicious and I was very grateful for their kind and caring thoughtfulness.
Review 105:Unfortunately the hotel was close for refurbing and we didn't a;ways have access to the wifi and restaurant, but that was just ne of those things and it certainly didn't spoil our stay there. These things happen!!!
Review 106:We were given the lodge in the garden which was superb! Nice and secluded and very cosy with lots of light which gave it a very airy feel. Would definitely stay there again. Handy for the beauty spots of Cornwall in a quiet setting.
Review 107:Dead fly on the windowsill for the entire length of stay. Rather expensive.
Review 108:We loved that it was walking distance to Port Isaac, the staff were friendly and outgoing. Good breakfast.
Review 109:I was warned ahead-of-time that the hotel was in slow-mode, being in the off-season where the proprietors were taking some down-time, which I was happy with, and I had a discounted rate. Even though they were on minimal service, I was well looked-after, warmly welcomed and I wanted for nothing. This is why I've just re-booked to have a second stay.
Review 110:Being out of season with no restaurant, could do with a microwave or small amount of kitchen equipment for breakfast and lunch. May encourage people out of season more with a little self catering.
Review 111:location
Review 112:This was our second visit to the Longcross and wel oved every minute of our stay, we stayed in the coach house which was so spacious and great value for money! Amazing sized bathroom and the staff were great and catered for every eventuality! Will Definitely stay here again!!
Review 113:Everything was lovely. The staff were accomodating even though it was the off season. The room was not only tidy and clean but very well finished and the bed was extremely comfy. Couldn't fault anything.
Review 114:Unfortunately, bathroom was not clean.
Review 115:Secluded, quiet position but still close enough to Port Isaac & surrounding districts. Roomy lodgings, with good Wi Fi reception. Manager quite helpful even though we were out of season.
Review 116:Lovely views. Friendly owner. In walking distance of Port Isaac. We stayed in the stable suite. Was lovely and quiet and cosy. Lovely view of the sea and surrounding countryside. Easy access to coastal walks. Within easy driving distance of Polzeath and Padstow.
Review 117:Only that we had to come home
Review 118:We went on November, it was quiet, which was the whole purpose of our trip, we wanted a peaceful break, it was a lovely location, our room was lovely with tea facilities tv and a faboulous wet room! The owner was there to greet us, and recommened a couple of local places to eat, the pub especially was wonderful! A lovely break away and would be looking to make another trip there summer or winter.
Review 119:filthy old carpets even in the bathroom. No double glazing therefore Windows wet inside, draughty. Dining room sadly equipped now with plastic chairs, green colour on the wall not appropriate. no proper light in bathroom. Breakfast not nicely presented (liquids in plastic jugs), very limited choice, the cooked breakfast not tastly %very watery mushrooms etc). More of a 2star offer.
Review 120:the building has lots of wonderful old features, great views. The waiter was charming and made up for the rest.
Review 121:Decor downstairs is a little dated but the character of the hotel makes up for it.
Review 122:Staff helpful and welcoming. Beds and room was spotless. Breakfast is not to be missed fresh and substantial local produce. Meals are also good value and really lovely. We will definitely be back.
Review 123:There was nothing that we didn't like.
Review 124:We loved the peace and quiet ; the unhurried pace of life. We loved the ample, delicious breakfasts, and the warm welcome at the end of a day out and the good hot meal waiting for us.
Review 125:Friendly and helpful staff. Very generous evening meals, a bit too large for us.Interesting late 19th century house with a lot of character, tastefully extended.very enjoyable short stay.happy to recommend and would return.
Review 126:Although we were 'upgraded' and the bed was comfy, bathroom roomy, the windows were filthy with no easy views of the sea etc and the TV was awful - dreadful reception and not simple to work for us oldies!! Soup was not very nice at lunch when we arrived so we chose to eat out and cannot comment on the food. A place that could do with someone upgrading it and running it as a good hotel as the position and building itself is lovely.
Review 127:The situation was good, lovely views and the gardens were lovely but could do with a bit more tlc.
Review 128:WiFi extremely slow. I couldn't use my notepad at all.
Review 129:Good location to Port Isaac. Excellent food and surroundings were nice view on deck of water.
Review 130:Initial finding of the hotel took a bit of searching. It could have done with one more direction sign to the right.
Review 131:the location and friendly staff. The views from the dining room and deck were fantastic - and thanks for the lovely weather.
Review 132:The "Honeymoon Suite" was fine if you had very few belongings, liked spiders of all sorts, and did not mind large cobwebs around thecorners, under the beds, chest of drawers and settee. The wardrobe was really a broom cupboard. After one short shower in the wet room, the standing water was close to the wash-basin, so, to keep dry feet one had to stand beside the basin. I see the "Honeymoon Suite" is not now featured in the room listings.
Review 133:Food and staff were excellent, as was the location. The "HoneymoonSuite" was fine if you had very few belongings, liked spiders ofall sorts, and did not mind large cobwebs around the place.
Review 134:Although most of the food at dinner was good, one of us had the seafood bake and it was virtually inedible. However, staff were very polite and the bill was adjusted accordingly.
Review 135:Location was peaceful with fantastic views. Lovely gardens. Very spacious comfortable room. Good breakfast.
Review 136:The room lacked charm, reminded me of an outdated motel in the States. Perhaps the rooms in the main house are different. .
Review 137:The staff is outstanding , liked the bar and restaurant, excellent water pressure, parking good, breakfast delicious and plentiful .
The Fine Print
