Reviews for Cavendish Hotel

Review 1:My husband is disabled and the only enterence to the Hotel is up a number of quite steep steps at the front of the building or a rather long walk around the back of the hotel along the side street.

Review 2:The location of the hotel was excellent, right on the sea front, only a five mins walk from the shops. We had room 3 on the first floor, a sea view room, the bedding and towels were very clean as was the room, we had a cooked brekie which was freshly cooked and there was plenty of it. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, we would definitely stay there again.Well worth a stay.

Review 3:was not impressed with very outdated decor especially in the room. objected to having a stranger seated at my allocated breakfast table. when i told a member of staff that i did not want that to happen the next morning i was told "we are very full" and not very politely. i didn't take breakfast in the hotel after that.

Review 4:good location

Review 5:Food was terrible. A breakfast menu would be helpful as we had no idea what was available. The orange juice was disgusting, tasted like powder mixed with warm water.

Review 6:Location was perfect. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 7:no sleep because of continuous noise though out the night. ,cold toast, breakfast luke warm and not able to get in room till 4pm after 250 mile driving , that's, half of your day you have paid for gone. and room not worth £42 single. not good

Review 8:location.

Review 9:Noisy air con unit outside room, poor quality cheap products used for breakfast. Horrid blankets on bed, no douvet, thin pillows no wifi in room didn't working reception

Review 10:Location

Review 11:Arrived at 7.30pm no meals.cook gone home,, No room service .. Smoking outside front door had to walk through smoke to go in.. This is really an O A P coach holiday Hotel.

Review 12:Clean room Good breakfast

Review 13:Seemed to be a very negative culture among some of the staff who were not at all responsive to any change outside of the set timescales for the hotel. in fact on some occasions one or 2 of the staff were quite rude in their approach. It seems that the hotel is geared towards coach parties so it may work for that but for the casual guest its does not work as it is too regimented.

Review 14:The location is excellent.

Review 15:I was served ham that was clearly off told waiter who was polite but had little English he went and spoke to chef who sent message via waiter saying in one word temperature which led me to believe that either fridge set wrong or meat left out he clearly didn't care my main concern was with my brother who has downs syndrone and had it been served to him he would have eaten it

Review 16:this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. There anticeptic deispensers all over the hotel and a leaflet about vomiting and diarrhoea in the bedroom wishing their guests a speedy recovery. At breakfast we were joined by a complete stranger at our table because the staff couldn't be bothered to give us another and we were not warned of this. We can forgive the watered down orange juice but not the above.

Review 17:All other guests were elderly. Felt like i was staying in a residential home. Floorboards from room above very creaky and noisey. Decor dated to the 1980's. Not suitable for families or young people.

Review 18:Room was comfortable

Review 19:slow service at breakfast, probably due to inadequate staffing when the hotel was very busy

Review 20:Comfortable beds, good clean & fully functional bathroom , good parking, sea front room was worth the extra

Review 21:Early breakfast 8 - 9 only. Cooked breakfasts pre cooked due to large number so some items over cooked whilst kept warm. Did not see any families - seemed to be full up with coach parties hence average age of visitor approx 60. Evening entertainment then directed at this age group - listened to singers who sang songs approx 40 years old - would have liked to hear more up to date entertainment.

Review 22:Friendly staff. Location great. Tidy and presentable.

Review 23:Blankets on the beds, in this day and age----- really!! Breakfast staff had poor grasp of English language, therefore what food arrived was pot luck. However staff were very friendly and tried hard under pressure.

Review 24:Position, sea front

Review 25:Apart from the seagulls waking us up and a clogged shower head, this hotel was all that was required for a pleasant week-end in Exmouth.

Review 26:Free Parking. In walking distance of the centre of Exmouth and its eating places. Being on the front with pleasant walks to the marina and start of estuary.

Review 27:sharing your breakfast table with people you don't know , and the table still having the last persons food and milk still on it was off putting

Review 28:the location was excellent short walk to town and harbour

Review 29:Only did a late breakfast and didn't offer a packed lunch as an alternative. As do most of the other hotels in the area do. Parking is a little sparse too. Expensive.

Review 30:Poor experience from check in to check out. Old fashioned and uncomfortable, I felt sorry for the majority of customers who were on coach holidays but looked like they were trapped in an old people's home with unsympathetic nurses. Breakfast (only available for 1 hour, clearly for the convenience of the hotel but not for the customers) was a joke but not a funny one. I had to keep closing the fire doors they propped open. Fairly grim. Ridiculous 4pm check in but 11am check out (clearly for the convenience of the hotel also) and no luggage room - and tough luck if you don't like it. There is a Premier Inn 200m along the sea front, do whatever you need to and go there instead.

Review 31:Good location.

Review 32:Noisy early in the morning due to the sound of something behind the hotel building. Very dirty windows!!! Staff, polish women very unfriendly, unprofessional on the phone, the night of my arrival - 17th July when I called to say I would arrive late - possibly after midnight. The women was unfriendly and could ask questions who I was and or what was the procedure. I was very disappointed.

Review 33:Comfortable bed. The porter who greeted me when I arrived post if night was very friendly and professional. Thank you.

Review 34:Woken up at 2am by staff talking and laughing outside window. Room very dated. Wi fi only downstairs.

Review 35:Very good location. Receptionist very helpful and friendly

Review 36:It would havebeen nice to have a comfy chair in my room, but that is all.

Review 37:The standard of maintenance, no switches that didnt work, all appliances working, clean as a new pin. Tasty food.

Review 38:Hotel was lovely room well presented and clean but the breakfast was inedible ... Complained to waiting staff who barely spoke English complained to reception same again ..... Shame as liked the hotel but would never return

Review 39:My room was at the back of the hotel, not a problem apart from the transformer or generator outside the window, which produced a constant buss at night. The signal for my TV kept breaking up. The water supply to the shower was very poor.

Review 40:The hotel was well situated for the amenities of the town. Good views over the coast.

Review 41:I didn't like paying £15 each for a poor quality dinner and then finding we could have paid only £11 if we had known about it earlier. Although I can't prove this one way or the other my husband was very ill hours after leaving the hotel and I soon followed. I was alarmed at the notice about Novo in the hotel folder and noted that the dispensers didn't get used hardly at all. In fact we usually seemed to be the only ones using them. We have stayed at a couple of Shearings as self drive and this is far below their standards. Had I known it was a coach hotel I would never have booked. The room seemed clean but if you regularly get this sickness I presume its not!!

Review 42:Views from room were beautiful and staff very friendly although we did have issues understanding the receptionist

Review 43:Well located ,good service and first class breakfast Very friendly staff and commendably flexible management Will certainly return in future Frank Lewis

Review 44:Would have preferred buffet style breakfast ,but I can understand it was not suitable for all of their clients. They seemed new to booking.com, I need to check I have not been charged twice by them.

Review 45:Location was very good, on the seafront.

Review 46:Room was very stuffy. Couldn't open window far enough to allow sufficient fresh air into the room. Rooms are a bit dated.

Review 47:Location. Staff excellent.

Review 48:the room was at the rear of the building and very cold at night, inadequate lighting, toilet flush low in water to obviously to save money,

Review 49:TV+food & the staff were all very hospitable

Review 50:Waited 15 minutes to be asked what we would like for our breakfast. We had a boat trip booked and started to think we may miss it or miss our breakfast.

Review 51:The Location right on the front. Plenty of car parking at no charge a real bonus. The staff on the desk were excellent really helpful

Review 52:I didnt like having to give in my key everytime I left the building. The time of the breakfast was between 8 - 9pm which I felt not long enough if not on coach. I was ignored to begin with in dining room because I was alone and waiter asked me when I eventually got his attention was I not waiting for someone!!! Most of them were on the coach and I understood later they had set times for breakfast!!!!!! Waiters were run off their feet because of this. Breakfast better between 7 - 10am I think.

Review 53:I liked the location along with the cleanliness of the hotel plus tea etc in the room replaced every day. It was quiet at night. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good with a good choice.

Review 54:Bathroom grubby especially the old floor covering. What we saw of the hotel decor was very tired. Advertised as having wifi but annoyed it didn't reach our rear room. Noise from someone walking backwards and forwards from the room above kept us awake - poor noise insulation - who's wandering around in the middle of the night anyway?

Review 55:Location on seafront excellent. Staff very friendly. Good breakfast.

Review 56:The basement restaurant was poorly ventilated and was therefore very humid during meals. The milk was 'on the turn' one morning which was not appreciated in the tea nor on corn flakes

Review 57:Spanish staff excellent attitude and very helpful. The Manager was cheery with a good sense of humour. The staff added to the enjoyment of our stay

Review 58:Ther wasn't anything to dislike during our stay there.

Review 59:Hotel was in a great location on the seafront, the breakfast food and service were good and the evening entertainment (Ian Boyd) was excellent.
