Reviews for The Britannia Nottingham Hotel
Review 1:Poor to no-existent Wi-Fi but same with any place like this. Something they have to offer in 21st Century but nowhere seems to offer it very well.
Review 2:Just a stopover (no food). Perfect for such. Everything was there one would expect. Can't fault it. Travel was mid-January.
Review 3:The parking facilities. The hotel doesnt offer a discount on parking as it does not have parking facilities. It cost me and my friend 16.50 extra each just to stay at the hotel This will probably make me choose a different hotel to stay in next time.
Review 4:The room
Review 5:Staff very ignorant. No "Hello, I'll just be a minute before I check you in". Bar staff and manager on shift both complaining that they wanted to go home. Girl checking us in was incredibly rude, no pleasantries, just name, smoking room and do you need two keys as questions
Review 6:Love the location and the fact you can still get smoking rooms at this hotel, far more convinent for me and my partner. Relitively clean, though there was a few hairs on the bathroom floor. Bed was very comfy and shower nice and hot
Review 7:Room was very dusty which set off my allergies and the air conditioning was incredibly loud which resulted in only a couple of hours sleep.
Review 8:Brilliantly located in Nottingham centre so we only had a short walk to and from the shops.
Review 9:If you have a dog then personally I think it's a great place to stay. Very friendly and helpful staff and great location to see the city ...would recommend this hotel definitely
Review 10:Being told that photo id was required as I wanted to pay by cash when I wasn't aware this was required as it was not mentioned when I booked my room on here.
Review 11:Very good breakfast. Bedroom nicely laid out.
Review 12:heating its not working. ,i asked for new hairdryer wait for 30min they wont gave me new one ..In bathroom mould everywhere .I won't stay here anymore .This hotel needs a renovation seriously.
Review 13:nice view through window , free tea coffee services, comfortable bed
Review 14:I didn't like my freezing cold room and in spite of reporting it twice and promised a heater after being told that the heating would come on soon. I did get a heater on the second day after yet again reporting it to reception. I couldn't sleep due to being so cold and there were no additional blankets to use. The room was not so clean and the bed sheets had several black iron marks on. The carpet had not been hoovered. There was no bathmat to stand on the slippery tiles. On the last morning I could not wash or shower due to very hot water coming from both the hot and cold taps as well as the toilet flush was very hot steamy water. I reported this and previous issues to reception on checking out but the member of staff was on the phone and dealt with me whilst still on the phone. No apology was offered but just said that someone else had also reported the water issue. Even though I waited in reception for some time for my taxi, no one came over regarding the issues that I'd mentioned and no apology or compensation was offered. I'd gone there for a break leaving my centrally heated, comfy home for 3x days of hell. I await a reply from the hotel chain.
Review 15:The restaurant/bar area was best, warm and comfortable. The room had a great view, nothing more.
Review 16:Staff are very surly, hotel decor very dated,TV's are very out of date, room shabby. But for a budget stay fine.wouldn't recommend a long stay.clean and basic.Beds are comfortable.
Review 17:Good price.good location.
Review 18:The bed wasn't the comfiest to be honest, quite a firm mattress, and a heavy duvet.
Review 19:Very cheap hotel, and excellent location. Clean room and friendly staff
Review 20:It is definitely not the Four Seasons, but that is why the price is so attractive. To get the Internet, you have to leave your room, which is hilarious but there is always a trade off, when it comes to sticking to a budget.
Review 21:The location is excellent, so close to the city centre. The staff were terrific. Very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was of a very good standard and fine value for money.
Review 22:Rude receptionist. Dated decor. Broken tv. Door didn't lock. Photos on this website do not match actual hotel! Dirty bathroom.
Review 23:Comfy bed. New carpet.
Review 24:It was shabby, dirty, carpets held together with duct tape. Old TV with fuzzy 4 channels and a dirty sticky button. No room service at all for 2 days. A drunken sounding receptionist when I called to complain. Bath with a dirt ring in it. Dont go here ever is my best advice.
Review 25:Nothing, although the sheets seemed clean.
Review 26:the room was tired with stains on the carpet and tiles broke in the bathroom with a sink that wobbles and finally the shower would not adjust temp
Review 27:large spacious room
Review 28:In future I will spend more and say somewhere different. I appreciate it's cheap but you could tell by the bedding, towels. You could hear every noise in the corridor and there were some rowdy people staying on the same floor.
Review 29:Location and it was cheap.
Review 30:Room booked as non smoking yet on arrival on8th floor and smell of smoke in corridors and room. Requested change and apparently no rooms available. Should have booked ales where !
Review 31:Staff helpful but for room as per below
Review 32:Is a little tired, and having to stand in the corridor to get wifi is annoying, especially as my neighbours we're going at it hammer and tongue!
Review 33:Convenient and reasonably priced
Review 34:Room smelt of cigarette smoke and bath had black mould around bath. Stayed twice in two weeks and no wifi. Wasn't working but no discount. Not good when on working visit
Review 35:Local to work for training etc
Review 36:The bedroom was dirty and the units were all broken, the staff who were working in the bar area were talking as if they were on a night out language was terrible, the buffet dinner was not a buffet the food was not great and the whole place needs some major TLC, will not be stating again and Booking.com should look at this hotel. I know its only 3 star but this was 1 star in my opinion
Review 37:I stayed in this hotel for one night for a work function and was my first time staying in this brand. The first sign that things were not ok was the outside signage at the corner of St James St and Maid Marian Way said "otel" rather than "Hotel". My experience in the "otel" was: 1) Old and dated decor: - Torn carpets by the 7th floor by the elevator with exposed metal - Room decor was uninspiring, boring brown and creme - The room I got was absolutely filthy. The desk area was sticky and muggy, the TV remote was the same with suspicious white residue, the carpet was dirty and had spots all over. The walls are thirsty for a coat of paint. - Loose electrical plug sockets 2) The bathroom was absolutely appalling. Try to take a shower and the tub just fills up with water. Like filling up the tub and showering at the same time. The sink tap had the obligatory green limescale to compliment the old style tap mixer. 3) Maybe I was the only unfortunate guest because the person in the next room was rested and happily snoring away. Yes I could hear him/her snoring away in the middle of the night. At checkout, the Receptionist did not ask if I enjoyed my stay, which I wasn't expecting either from a place where the "H" (heart) has fallen off the signage.
Review 38:- Great location to Nottingham central - Helpful housekeeping staff. One chap searched high and low for an iron. - Close proximity parking.
Review 39:Bar closed and cashed up 10pm..Very noisy night, Couldnt have air con on it made a clanking noise , doors slamming all night, workmen mixing cement below 8am til 11am check out, so much for the lay in !
Review 40:Cheap , no nonsense, comfy beds, good location
Review 41:receptionist was cold and not welcoming property is dated cupboard door fell off when attempted to be opened, Breakfast was overcooked and bacon or should I say leather!!! thick and hard.
Review 42:location and price were good excellent views. Barman was friendly and sociable
Review 43:The room of the hotel was shabby with old scratchy desks and tv from early 00', I stayed at Britannia hotel in Birmingham too, which was way better! The disparity between two is shocking. The room was freezing with no opportunity of increasing the heating. Tv only had 5 channels & Internet only at the reception & bar area. Breakfasts were poor. Staff was also far from being friendly
Review 44:Location was probably the only thing good about the hotel
Review 45:The hotel looks very tired and could do with decorating and bringing up to date. The breakfast was a little dried up.
Review 46:Good location and car park very usefull.
Review 47:Hotel dirty, shabby door as if it was a dive, not a hotel. Staff is not polite, not helpful. Lack of internet in the rooms, only at the reception you catch it. Cold and not pleasant rooms
Review 48:Location was perfect, room nice and clean, specious. I was introduced to offers, breakfast etc. by staff. Since did not opt to go to restaurant for a meal, a proximity of Tesco shop was ideal to purchase some fruits and sweets.
Review 49:Checking in - got to room it was full of someone else's clothes in he cupboard The bed was full of fidget stains Requested non smoking room - got a smoking room Someone was stabbed in the hallway of the hotel Food was totally poor - had to eat out every day Waited at bar 20 minutes before I saw someone
Review 50:Nothing
Review 51:Rude neighborours! People banging on our door at 4am! No lock on our bedroom to which made us uncomfortable and unsafe when people were banging on our door at stupid oclock in the morning!!
Review 52:Staff were pleasant and helpful
Review 53:One visit was quite noisy, grating sound on and off all night , maybe it was the lift? But way too disturbing .never enough tea coffee milk .
Review 54:Option of a smoking room , good room sizes ,comfy beds , big windows, hot water.
Review 55:Receptionist who was sieving me decided to answer the phone while checking me in, I would say that's great customer service. I had no toilet paper in my bathroom and had a dirty old pair of panties on the floor
Review 56:It was close to town
Review 57:3 nights of no heating (end of November - very cold!). Dad was given extra duvet but staff were not helpful when he tried to discuss the issue with them. He was offered a different room but told that they 'didn't know which rooms had working heating or not'.
Review 58:The room was small but comfortable with tea & coffee making facilities. Great location - very central to Nottingham.
Review 59:The hairdryer was in the dressing table and the mirror was too far away to see. When asking for a little mirror the receptionist was very unhelpful.
Review 60:Location.
Review 61:The carpet in the room had nail cuttings on it and was very dirty.the window never shut so had to put up with the noise all night from the road outside ,the bathroom bin was full of rubbish from the previous guests and the buffet food was appauling and bland.
Review 62:The staff on the other hand were polite and welcoming.
Review 63:the hotel was old and outdated. The carpet had bald patches, the quilts didn't fit the beds (too small) and the room was absolutely freezing.
Review 64:The location was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 65:I was not at all keen on the mad scientist splicing animals and objects in the lobby. Although I must say that the half cigarette/half ant splice was suprisingly magical.
Review 66:I very much enjoyed the fact that golden Centaurs guarded my door during the course of my stay for no extra charge. The baby sloth petting zoo in the bath was a welcome addition to an otherwise standard bathroom.I loved that Narnia was in such close proximity to the wardrobe. 5 out 5!
Review 67:Carpets were really badly stained in bedrooms. Carpet cleaner would work wonders!
Review 68:Friendly staff. Reasonably comfortable bed. Excellent power from the shower
Review 69:I don't like that some rooms don't have fridges, and sometimes the walls can be quite dirty. I think they could do better food in the restaurant.
Review 70:The staff are excellent, especially Ashleigh. She is very polite and always egar to help. I like the fact they are upgrading the t.vs
Review 71:The hotel is scruffy, depressing and in need of complete refurbishment. The shower was tepid. It was extremely expensive for the quality of the hotel. The worst, but most expensive hotel I have ever stayed in. Unfortunately, due to various things going on in Notts that weekend it was our only choice.
Review 72:Nothing, other than convenience of location.
Review 73:Only one staff member on a busy reception desk. Cold shower . No vending facilities for late snacks . Expensive room with no breakfast included . Busy reception at check out only one staff member on . Lots of other unhappy customers
Review 74:The location
Review 75:The first room had doritoes on the floor and in the 2nd the carpet was dusty and there were pubic hairs in the bath. But I sprayed them down the drain and all was okay
Review 76:The staff were very nice and it was great value for money. The location was very good to be close to town. There was no hot water when I came in first however that was quickly resolved by putting me in a different room, hence me not seeing this as a negative, he assisted bringing my luggage too.however was slightly disappointed in having a smaller room but for the price I can't complain.
Review 77:Grim, needs a refurbish. Dirty, bath had pubic hairs from a previous customer. Overpriced. £169 for a twin room for one night in a run down hotel.
Review 78:Location
Review 79:Room was very hot (despite the cold, .... still toooo hot) and the air con was noisy and we couldn't turn it off Small bed - was it really a double?
Review 80:Great location. Room was clean Decent shower
Review 81:Appalling levels of cleanliness including chewing gum in the sink and a rancid stench of smoking in the room. Bar was not open for duration of stay. No parking facilities and all of this for £199 per night! Absolutely outrageous. Will be taking further action via a small claims court.
Review 82:bedroom doors require a hard pull to close and make a noisy thud. The noise of closing doors was continuous.
Review 83:convenient for city centre. connected to multi - storey car park.
Review 84:The heating in my room wasn't working. I had a window that wouldn't lock shut. Although my partner complained at reception and was assured the heating would be fixed and maintenance would visit my room in order to resolve the problem... I remained in a freezing cold room for a further 12 hours. Very disappointed in the lack of customer care.
Review 85:Value for money!
Review 86:freezing cold room ,dirty smelly sock hanging from smoke alarm ,drunken noise all night ,staff not interested ,no soap or shower gel ,I wont be staying there again
Review 87:nothing
Review 88:No heating in room, very loud during the night (more like a hostel than a hotel) decor very out of date, box TV what kids had never seen before! Two pool tables with one cue and no tip on it. The whole of the hotel and cafe needs a total reverb.
Review 89:Location to shoos
Review 90:We was upgraded as we checked in but to my surprise the room was very cold (as I'm electrician) I saw the temperature stat on the wall but couldn't turn it up as it was broken + the cover was loose. It was warmer in the corridor. For my opinion the hotel looks very run down and a lack of money spent on it giving it a rating of 4out of 10 for decor.
Review 91:Staff were lovely
Review 92:Had to ask to move rooms as the room we were given was very cold and there was no way of turning up the heating. We then had problem with the room key card but the second room was nicer and warmer but the bathroom had a mouldy smell.
Review 93:my husband and I stayed checked into Nottingham hotel, Maid Marion Way about 8pm on the 18th November 2015. We were allocated room 114. On entering the room it smelt strongly of tobacco smoke, my husband went down to the reception and asked if we could change rooms, he was told there where no rooms available ! On returning to the hotel after an evening out, the room was very cold and no facilities for altering the heat, it was after midnight so obviously we needed our bed, during the night I went to use bathroom and the light bathroom switch did not turn on any lights. In the morning there was still no heat in the room or light in the bathroom, we tried the shower but could not regulate the temperature of the water, this not helped by not being able to see as the bathroom was in darkness. A call to reception and a man came to inspect saying it needed an electrician. We also mentioned the smell and heating but just shrugged his shoulders. We checked out early 8.30, having not been able to shower, being cold and the smell of tobacco continued. Very disappointed with this hotel in Nottingham and think things need to improve significantly.
Review 94:location
Review 95:I didn't like the dirty blocked bath. The rooms look a little tired and not getting in internet access in the room.
Review 96:I liked the location. I liked the generous sized room.
Review 97:was disappointed with the room, it was described as twin, yes there were 2 beds. one was double bed other was certainly not a proper bed with a mattress, it was basically a futon and not very comfortable. The windows had horrible wooden shutters on them, which were hard to pull over.
Review 98:the price was ok.
Review 99:Staff was OK, facilities are not that good. There was no heating in Room #506, even upon request received no help from the staff. Had to spend 5 nights without heating
Review 100:Close to the city junction
Review 101:i didnt like anythink about my stay the room was un clean the feslites were not very good the bed was uncomfortable and the bathroom was not very uptodate the bath was damaged there was to cleaning products ie soaps hand wash body was shampoo no showercaps
Review 102:Arrived and checked in, all ok. Got into room and went shopping. Went back to room and found no remote control to television. Went to reception and was advised that I needed to see a manager as they would be able to get one from another room. Was then advised that due to a wedding all managers were too busy and there was a long wait. I pressed that they should cater for all people who had booked too which the reception lady agreed. Still advised I had to wait. Unhappy with this I requested that if they gave me a key card to an empty room I could get one and drop the key back. After a while lady on reception finally agreed. Went down an hour later and advised the heating did not work, she advised she didn't think we could control it in the room. She said she would ask someone to send a portable heater up, this never arrived, so a cold night with not much sleep
Review 103:Nothing really.
Review 104:unfortunately after we had booked.i received a email for a room at the same hotel for £29.we had paid half hour earlier £85.
Review 105:the location, politeness and helpfulness of staff.this is the 2nd time we have stayed and would recommend the hotel.
Review 106:Not too much, its a budget hotel, albeit a bit of tired one but served for purpose.
Review 107:Cheap hotel just for the night, conveniently located for city centre
Review 108:Very noisy, could hear the heating/water pipes churning away. Walls a bit thin so could hear all outside. Needed redecorating, very dated.
Review 109:Shower was powerful enough.
Review 110:I would just say that the only problem for me was the hard mattress on the bed. It was not all that comfortable.
Review 111:I found the staff helpful and polite. The receptionist changed my room quickly and I was able to get settled in after the swipe card failed for the first room
Review 112:the majority of the staff were terribly miserable and unhelpful, we were rushed to eat our dreadful food in the restaurant as staff wanted to go home, no soap in bathroom and carpets dirty.
Review 113:one staff member was excellent and very helpful, the location was good.
Review 114:The heating in the room didn't work room 501 and has to use a small mobile heater
Review 115:The hotel was in a good location and close to shops and local tram stop
Review 116:The manager in the morning was almost rude, totally unsympathetic, couldn't have a conversation/dialogue - she just rebutted all my comments. The room was so noisy - external from the street & internal with people banging doors that I couldn't sleep till 04.30 am. In the room, the lighting was so poor that I couldn't read / study. Very frustrating & made worse as the TV channels were so limited. I checked with other people in the city, nobody had a good word to say about the hotel.
Review 117:Staff were helpful, in the evening, at reception. The restaurant staff were very helpful.
Review 118:The room was filthy. There was a coffee stain on the wall in more than one place, there was big stains on the carpet. Thick dust on the skirting boards. Hairs in the bath. Marks on the wall. Bathroom door did not close properly, therefore not lock. The lock on the main door did not work and there was also no chain on the main door. Very dated, information they give you is from 2011!.
Review 119:The location of the hotel is fabulous being right in the centre
Review 120:Some cold items at breakfast - I don't accept "you should have told us " as an excuse. Loud slamming fire doors. Being ignored at the check-in . It costs nothing to smile even if you don't like the look of the customer.
Review 121:I didn't stay long enough to form a firm opinion. In a good position for the Beer Festival.
Review 122:Shower was scalding hot and no way I or my husband could vary the temperature. We told receptionist when we checked out and he seemed to be very concerned. I hope it has been seen to as it could be dangerous.
Review 123:Location near the castle and the Park where we needed to be.
Review 124:Very dated and in need of a complete refurbishment. The room wasn't overly clean and the tiles in the bathroom were all cracked. Definitely not worth the £72 I had to pay for it.
Review 125:Great location for nottingham City Centre with an NCP carpark opposite with a reduced price when staying at the hotel.
Review 126:SLOW SERVICE!!When we arrived there was only one receptionist dealing with so many customers which meant there was a extra long wait for us, the receptionist was not welcoming at all! Two of the towels were used and not clean
Review 127:Really out-dated furnishings and grubby carpet. Some of the seats in the dining area were actually dirty and off-putting when we were eating. Old-fashioned TV set in room with poor quality image. Bare necessities in bathroom. Whole hotel really needs a good refurbishment asap. Photos on site very misleading. Reception staff not particularly friendly or welcoming.
Review 128:We got a deal on the price - we would have been gutted to have paid the full asking price but would have preferred to have paid more for a cleaner hotel even so. Esherif was a very polite and respectful employee in the restaurant at breakfast time.
Review 129:Carpets were very dusty and the bathroom smelt of cigarette smoke maybe from the ventilation systems as some rooms were smoking. Could do with better lighting in the room.
Review 130:Nice sized rooms and good facilities
Review 131:Smell of smoke in first room offered (second room much better) and smell of smoke in corridors. Phone and fridge in room didn't work.
Review 132:Location to city centre and parking
Review 133:There was a mini fridge in the room which had mould in it which was quite alarming, the bath was quite minging and there was thick dust behind all the furniture. we had to pay £10 for an early check in even though the room was already ready, and we had no towels in the room. had to ask several times each time to be told we will have some brought up soon but nobody came, so I had to just find a cleaner with a trolly and just take some myself
Review 134:The room was quite big, plenty of storage space and had a decent mirror in the bathroom and a working hot shower, the resturant and bar was good to have just anelevator ride away. worth it for the location and cheap prices
Review 135:Breakfast. Congealed from being under heating lamps for so long and so greasy i was reminded of it all day. Dining staff speaking about other staff in a derogatory fashion Laminate floors in room slippery as hell. No bathmat. Lounge and bar filled with individuals sitting on the floor with rucksacks huddled to the nearest plug socket charging their phones. Looks like a cross between a students union and a refugee camp
Review 136:The location and proximity to the town centre. Ease of parking.
Review 137:Dirty towels in room. Very warm in room even with heating turned off, therefore had to have windows open... very noisy from traffic (even on the 7th floor!). Not very dog friendly, room on 7th floor.
Review 138:Central location to town. Refund of some parking costs.
Review 139:I was told there would be wifi but my room was on 9th floor and I just couldn't pick up any connection. The reception staff were very blaze about this and told me to simply work from the restaurant level where there would be a stronger connection. This was very inconvenient as I had to prepare for a big meeting and needed the silence of my room. Very unimpressed.
Review 140:The hotel was at a good location
Review 141:The hotel room was dirty. Mould on the bathroom tiles, thick dirt in the corners of the floor. Thick dust under the bed. Electric light fitting loose off the wall. Spill marks down the walls. No safety chain on the door. Reception staff very frosty. Bar staff unhelpful. Bar upholstery very tired.
Review 142:Hotel in very good position for trips to places of interest. Nottingham is a fabulous city.
