Reviews for Le Chene Hotel

Review 1:So lovely to have pool, hot tub and sauna in such a small, friendly hotel, made up for slightly tired decor. Excellent breakfast! And just 10mins walk from airport.

Review 2:We in original part hotel. Room was tired. Sink in room didn't help. Breakfast was buffet that wasn't topped up very often if ever . limited in choice.

Review 3:Location and facilities I.e pool.hot tub .lounge were good.

Review 4:Fridge in room was not working properly and end stop on curtain rail had come off and had not been repaired. Neither desperate, just needed a little more TLC.

Review 5:Friendly and helpful staff. Easy location, 10 minute leisurely walk from airport. Proximity to bus stop all going into town at regular intervals.

Review 6:Wi-fi reception was terrible in the room... it's as though the walls were made of lead! I had to go outside in the garden or to the conservatory to get anything done on the internet.

Review 7:Friendly, helpful staff. Good, clean facilities. Breakfast was top-class.

Review 8:- I only stayed one night but the room seems a bit outdated - perhaps a renovation is due soon - The front door lock - had to go to my car at night to get something and found the door was next to impossible to open (this is after following the instruction on the door to "pull the handle up and lock/unlock") - A bit too far for St Peter Port if you don't have a car

Review 9:- Great location for the airport (also close to one of the coastal trails) - Owners are friendly and one of them stayed up late to wait for me as I had a late check-in - Wifi worked well - Breakfast was ok and room was decently clean and free of any smells given how old the building seemed to be

Review 10:Breakfast buffet was available only until 9.15 a.m., which was too early for me after a late night. Until 10 a.m. or 10.30 a.m. is more usual.

Review 11:The hotel is comfortable and quiet with good facilities. It is also conveniently situated. Better value for money than most others available on booking.

Review 12:Chef quit so no food on site, hotel arranged for us to go to another hotel down the road which would have been fine if it wasn't raining so much Other than that, staff were great Just a shame about the paper thin walls and being able to hear people walking Around in the room above

Review 13:Great staff& super helpful reception. Nice spot and garden/pool area

Review 14:The room lets this place down and lets it down badly & if this is the standard of "average priced" Guernsey hotels then there is no hope for Guernsey tourism. Too small, insufficient storage, not cleaned properly, not decorated since the 70s,overlooking a scruffy alleyway and you need to keep the curtains closed to stop the restaurant guests looking in. Sorry guys but you need to pull your socks up.

Review 15:Good location, friendly staff, good breakfast

Review 16:it is very tired looking but even worse it really wasn't clean. A bit of bleach and elbow grease would have removed the stains in the toilet bowl. There is no excuse for this.

Review 17:The location, close to the airport

Review 18:We were met with a very friendly receptionist who was most helpful. We enjoyed a total family atmosphere also the cleanliness of the hotel, lovely pool and outdoor area. Lovely meals and very friendly staff. On our next visit we will be staying at the Le Chene Hotel.

Review 19:At breakfast, although bacon and sausage were lovely and hot the other elements were actually cold which was disappointing.

Review 20:The location proved very convenient-we dropped bags off on the way into town and walked to the airport for our flight home. The buses were convenient for getting to and from town and to the orchid fields. Friendly staff

Review 21:Our room was divided from the next room with a plasterboard partition. We heard practically every word our neighbours said, the whole time. I hated that, and will not be staying there again.

Review 22:Staff were great.

Review 23:Easy to find even when travelling by bus. Very convenient for the airport (no night flights, so not disturbed) Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 24:Single room occupant travelling alone means I am concerned about security. There was no way of securing room from inside. Anyone with master key could access room. Made me nervous.

Review 25:Staff friendly and obliging. When I asked to sit outside for breakfast they couldn't do enough to help.

Review 26:Slightly tired decor inside and out Bar closes 10.30pm

Review 27:Very helpful friendly staff - excellent bike-hire for exploring island, electric-bikes in particular good for steep hills back from town. Walkable from Guernsey Aero Club Pool

Review 28:Wifi only seemed available in public areas, although I was right at the top of building. Room felt a little tired.

Review 29:10 minute walk for airport on the main road, so really easy to find. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Free wifi.

Review 30:Room was not quite as advertised. No hairdryer no stock in mini bar.room smelt foisty when we first entered. Had to open windows to air out. No extracter fan in bathroom. Shower had no water pressure.

Review 31:Staff new made a few mistakes but were quite friendly.

Review 32:nothing it was the best hotel we have stayed in with our dogs.

Review 33:The staff where very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. They where lovely to our two dogs which made our stay amazing.

Review 34:-staff were miserable -accidently smashed a glass and got shouted at -milk and sugar left on tables over night were full off flies and dust -sauna and jacuzzi were overpriced -very overpriced drinks in the mini bar -close to the airport so very noisy planes

Review 35:-free use of pool -breakfast in the morning -beds were comfortable and clean -rooms were clean -receptionist was friendly -rooms were a good price and good size -smoker and pet friendly -food was excellent

Review 36:Location not so good as it was too far away from shops bars cafes etc so I stayed in my room. I was only there 1 night so no problem

Review 37:Hotel was good and staff and food etc

Review 38:Room was totally worn out and in need of a major overhaul. Being so close to airport flights start at 7am so forget a lay in.

Review 39:Food here was delicious and worth every penny we paid

Review 40:Nothing at all; we shall stay again and will be recommending Le Chene to anyone and everyone we know who is planning to visit Guernsey.

Review 41:The atmosphere/ambiance . . . Overall friendliness and helpfulness of all staff . . . The accessibility . . . The gourmet meal on my wife's birthday evening and meals in general - superb . . . The lack of pretentiousness but a subtle 'class' exuded by the establishment, along with the level of comfort in all regards . . . and finally, their 'adorably tatty' little Smart cabriolet car that they happily rent out to allow you swiftly-arranged freedom to explore the island . . . (the list is endless!)

Review 42:Not able to properly accommodate the single traveller and hugely overpriced. I was given a noisy small room next to the road traffic with no view, having specifically requested a quiet room with a view. I would never stay at this hotel again. You decide.

Review 43:Only one good thing: location is within walking distance of the airport.

Review 44:It was the most expensive hotel we have stayed in on our travels around Southampton, Exmoor and Cornwall, but perhaps just the location of Guernsey was reason for this.

Review 45:We thought that though the hotel was comfortable and had great facilities for families and travellers, it was pretty tired and in need of redecoration and refurbishment (grass growing out of the chimney not a good first impression). We flew in to see family who live close to the airport so was convenient for us. Very impressed with friendly, efficient staff and great food:).

Review 46:This is a must-stay hotel! Exceeded our Guernsey expectations. Homey atmosphere, friendly, extremely helpful and welcoming, beautiful Guernsey setting, it was exactly what we were hoping for without the pretentiousness of a London hotel. It is conveniently located on the bus route which is easy to access when walking from the ferry; this was a big bonus for us. The ten-minute bus ride back into town was an enjoyable tour of the area, and for only one pound it was a bargain. Plus, it was only a five-minute walk to the incredible German Occupation Museum. Don't miss it!! We will definitely be back. Thank you, Ank and Niek, for your wonderful hospitality! Be sure to give Pebbles a special treat for us.

Review 47:Being told where to sit for breakfast The layout of the 'singles' tables!! Dirty pool Unsafe towel rail in shower room (after it came off - not for the first time - it was repaired again (and was still wobbly)) The television in my room (14) was poorly positioned - would be OK for someone shorter than 4'10"

Review 48:Comfortable clean bed

Review 49:The room was not well ventilated so that at night the window had to be left open which made the room very light. Generally though no major complaints.

Review 50:The location was good in relation to the beach, public transport and the local restaurants.

Review 51:We arrived early but they let us get into our room to change for funeral and brought us a tray of tea. Room was very clean when we returned.

Review 52:Location staff and facilities 1st class,Uitstekend

Review 53:Dinner was a bit uninspiring

Review 54:Staff very welcoming, great location

Review 55:Would be good to have wifi in all bedrooms.

Review 56:Value for money and pleasant and friendly staff.

Review 57:Lovely location within easy reach of airport - we walked! Staff suggested a great walk down the the nearby cove.

Review 65:Half hour wait between starter and diner. Then arrived under cooked. Went to bed hungry. £45 spent on a sub standard meal.

Review 66:The big bed

Review 67:Everything was great!

Review 68:Was blocked in on car park and it was 30 minutes before a member of staff came to help move cars.

Review 69:Location of hotel. Clean friendly staff.

Review 70:Bed was uncomfortable. Room needs updating and no view. Also they were a bit dirty

Review 71:Breakfast and meals and staff where polite.

Review 72:Handy location for airport and also only 20mins into town by bus.

Review 76:Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 77:Pool sauna jacuzzi friendly staff

Review 79:Nothing at all.

Review 80:The staff are all good and the food is great.

Review 81:The bar area

Review 82:Freindliness of staff nothing to much trouble

Review 83:Outdoor jacuzzi times could have been more flexible. A usable sauna would be great.

Review 84:Staff, location and service.

Review 85:Everything and is close to the airport

Review 86:Dirty light switch in room 23. Bed mattress needs to be firmer.

Review 87:The cuisine - evening meals were excellent.

Review 100:Excellent staff very helpful and friendly. High quality food.

Review 101:This hotel is very easy to find .staff are friendly rooms are very clean and comfortable. Hope to stay again soon

Review 102:The prices of the food I thought was a little steep but everything else was very good

Review 103:A good location close to the airport

Review 104:The staff was excellent durint our stay. Very friendly and helpful

Review 105:It rained in the evening

Review 106:Pretty family-run hotel with good facilities and an excellent restaurant. The nice owner enjoys to comfort his guests.

Review 107:We didn't really dislike anything but the rooms and specifically the bathroom were quite dated. However, the shower was powerful and the room was clean which are both important.

Review 108:The breakfast was really lovely with very polite service.

Review 109:The need to walk up and down stairs to the dining room, difficult for people with mobility issues. First impressions were that the decor was a little jaded however after a day or so it didn't seem to matter so much

Review 110:Very friendly patron and helpful staff Excellent breakfasts and dinners Lovely dinning room/ guest lounge Other guests very friendly and from many different countries Although hired a car, the local buses stop just outside the hotel Ideally sited for those wanting to hike along the islands coastal paths and close to St Peter's Port

Review 111:Radiator in the bathroom didn't work and there could have been more hooks. Minor issues, really.

Review 112:The staff were delightful and the food good. It was lovely ti spend a quiet evening playing Scrabble in the bar!

Review 113:Like some other hotels/guest houses..the premises are beginning to look a little tired..I didn't eat there as I felt that there was a lack of sufficent choice...apart from breakfast which was excellent..I also would have preferred to have a bath in the room..just my preference...

Review 114:Certainly handy from the airport..I don't like to have to try to locate the hotel at the end of travelling..it is very easy to find...reasonably clean and comfortable....

Review 115:Just a tiny bit jaded - wallpapered rooms with plain veneered flush doors and old Yale type locks.

Review 116:Friendly staff. Torches available for late evening strolls in the moonlight!

Review 117:The room being at the front of the hotel, it was a little noisy

Review 118:Every member of staff I met went the extra mile and made you feel a really valued customer: from the waiter to the cook to the owner! Impressive. A nice warm place to stay (as opposed to sterile chain hotel) Good location very close to the airport, bus service and really a nice 1 hour walk from Peter Port

Review 119:Smokers using the door by the pool and sitting on the door step and the smoke drifting into our room which was unpleasant.

Review 120:The friendliness of the staff, food and pool.

Review 121:Couldn't sleep due to a guy chatting out loud all night in the next room!!! Idiot!!! Pool could do with a clean and not heated.

Review 122:Room was very clean and food was excellent. Enjoyed the little swimming pool but was ice cold. Very friendly staff.

Review 123:I'm sorry but I felt the hotel was in desperate need of modernisation. All the furniture is old and tatty, the carpets were mucky. The fittings are outdated and the rooms small and cramped. The children's room (no 2) smelt very badly of damp. The bathrooms were old and shabby.

Review 124:Breakfast. Friendly staff. Location to airport.

Review 125:Clean, comfortable, small but facilities (like a small library and assortment of games) Table Tennis, and a swimming pool. Attetentiveness of staff, and food quality was very good.
