Reviews for Best Western Hotel St Pierre

Review 1:Adjoing door

Review 2:Reception man was lovely, room ok, adjoining door was awful, from a noise factor, restaurant ok, but they didn't want you hanging about!!!!!!

Review 3:No bad experience, only that I had a room on front, which is the main A road between Barnsley & Wakefield so road noise is very noticeable.

Review 4:Easy to access. Good free parking

Review 5:Toilet in bathroom difficult to flush. For breakfast I would have liked less quantity and more quality. Some of the bar staff seemed to lack training.

Review 6:Location convenient for the places we wanted to visit. An attractive village with places to eat.

Review 7:Asked reception to book a taxi as we were at a wedding, waited for the taxi which did not come as the receptionist had forgotten to book it as its Christmas had to wait an hour for one to come making us late

Review 8:Good value for money

Review 9:I think I may have been charged twice. I paid through Amex at the desk but appear to have a prepayment already on my card ? Can you check please ? Tjinglis

Review 10:Pleasant staff. We have stayed previously as we have family nearby. We could be regulars ! ie 3/4 times per year.

Review 11:Excessive noise as there was a wedding and a Christmas party night taking place which led to lots of doors banging late into the evening.

Review 12:Very friendly staff & great breakfast. Good value for money.

Review 13:The floor lamp wasn't working, presume the bulb had gone but didn't really need to use it. Kettle switched itself off before reaching boiling point, again I didn't bother to report this.

Review 14:Well equipped room, nice furniture, lamps etc. Quality brand of tea & coffee including decaffeinated which I prefer.Lovely, spotlessly clean bathroom.

Review 15:Me and my husband stayed here on the 28th November for our 10th wedding anniversary as this is where we got married, and we were put in the bridal suit which was really special as we only booked for a double room we were extatic it was brilliant they also left us a box of chocolates and an anniversary card which I thought very thoughtful of them. Our overall visit was wonderful the food was delicious and the staff lovely cannot find any fault at all. We will definitely go back Thankyou to all at st Pierre hotel.

Review 16:Guests having a party until 2.00 in another room on a weekday evening. Lots of noise, bad singing and banging about which the management appeared to do nothing about! First time I've had this sort of issue in a hotel.

Review 17:Friendly staff, good value for money.

Review 18:No view from my window except a roof :-(

Review 19:The staff where very welcoming and the location was lovely..a few welcoming pubs and a gorgous lake 2 mins walk away 2 enjoy a lovely stroll around..would defiantly stay again.

Review 20:Hotel located in a very nice area with lovely walks along the dam. Situated between Wakefield and Barnsley town centres which were both accessible by public transport with bus stops outside the hotel.

Review 21:Friendliness of all staff. Professional and genuinely warm. Comfortable breakfast area and extensive range of choice on offer. Good value room service for evening meal.

Review 22:Sloping roof in bedroom. Banged my head several times. Pillows were hard. Lightweight quilt not warm enough during the night for time of year. Poor flush on toilet and water continued to run, so had the sound of a steady trickle all night. These are all things that are easily remedied and didn't overshadow our stay. It was great.

Review 23:An enjoyable stay. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Lovely breakfast. Pleasant room. Great parking.

Review 24:Only one slight problem was that the bed was too soft and I suffered a sore back. Though that was probably peculiar to myself so not a complaint.

Review 25:Great location. Our second time and excellent again. Good clean room, nice bar, very good breakfast. All of the staff were friendly and professional. Will be back again without a doubt.

Review 26:Managerial staff having a staff meeting outside our room at 7am. We notified re emotion staff as we were leaving

Review 27:Liked the location and value for money.

Review 28:Shower water pressure on second floor absolutely dire! Breakfast service disorganised.

Review 29:Quiet room. Clean. Friendly staff. Easy to find. Plenty of parking.

Review 30:There is no separate shower tray in any of the rooms. The bath side is high and there are no handles on the wall to aid injured/handicapped people. I have a replacement knee and so took a 'sitting-down' shower. It took me 10 minutes to get out of the bath!

Review 31:The location next to the Dam is perfect . (It's opposite where my mother was born and raised).

Review 32:The room had poor lighting, it had extension leads cable tied to the unit and skirting board and I got stung by stinging nettles in the carpark

Review 33:Location, breakfast was nice and staff serving were friendly

Review 34:The desk staff were extremely obliging and helpful. They bent over backwards to make sure everything fell into place. The breakfast staff were also very good.

Review 35:There was nothing we did not like and have no complaints !

Review 36:we both liked the comfort and the welcome received from all the staff that we encounted. we thought our stay was excellent value.

Review 37:Nothing, all top shelf. Staff very helpful and accommodating.

Review 38:Great facilities, very good menu. Cable TV was a bonus, especially to watch sport ie Motogp!!

Review 39:The rooms and corridors etc. were very dated. There were multiple weddings going on in the hotel and so it was very noisy. They should definitely upgrade to soft close doors as there was an awful lot of banging going on around 4am when drunken guests were returning to their rooms. Also the lighting in the room could be improved as I struggled to do my makeup in the dim light.

Review 40:This was the cheapest place we found in the area.

Review 41:Shower - without a doubt the poorest shower I have ever experienced. Checkout, we said when we checked in we were paying seperately but when we came to pay it had been charged to one card

Review 42:The choice of fresh fruit at breakfast was very limited

Review 43:space in the room was more generous than in many hotels. There was a bath a well as a shower. We were able to choose a light evening meal

Review 44:I thought the breakfast was included in the price. If I had realised it wasn't I would have eaten somewhere else as quite pricey.

Review 45:lovely staff and good sized room

Review 46:Arrived 8.15 on Sunday evening , resturant closed , told to walk in to village where there are lots of places to eat , also fully booked or closed , walked the half mile back to get car and drive to Wakefield , if going on a Sunday evening take a packed lunch !

Review 47:Clean room and good location

Review 48:Quite loud music from weddings both nights, unfortunately we were over the top of it, lots of doors banging. Extractor fan in the bathroom never went off and was quite annoying

Review 49:Ordered some food but it got taken down wrong so teenage son went hungry Breakfast OK but not great

Review 50:Friendly and helpful receptionist Beds comfortable

Review 51:Breakfast was overcooked and dry. No one asked if the food or the stay were OK. Lack of attention to customer service and satisfaction.

Review 52:Convenient semi-rural location

Review 53:A few days after we arrived home we were contacted to say we hadn't payed for all our drinks at the bar,we settled up our bill as we left

Review 54:Very friendly bar staff, nice greeting at reception

Review 55:Dull and dingy room- more like a corridor- small window onto ivy covered wall. Poor lighting in the room. No one asking about my stay at check out and perfunctory interest at check in.

Review 56:Staff on check out were more concerned with talking to each other than guests.

Review 57:Good value for money, room was clean, early check in was arranged for no extra cost.

Review 58:not really anything not to like, just a couple of little things that were possibly overlooked. I booked and executive suite(very nice) with this were a couple of additional extras. we were left 2 bottles of water but only 1 chocolate bar and we only had one towel. very small things that were easily rectified if required, just attention to detail that was overlooked. had a lovely stay.

Review 59:very friendly staff, lovely location

Review 60:Good location Quiet And clean. Very friendly staff. Normally we stay in other hotels but this will be the one we stay in for all our future visits to Wakefield. Thanks see you September.

Review 61:Not really a bad experience as such, but found our room quite small and rather warm. We were provided with an electric fan on request.Would opt for a larger room,if we stayed again.

Review 62:We stayed for 2 nights. Despite there being weddings on both days, we weren't in the least 'neglected'the staff were very friendly and attentive. We were very satisfied with our stay.Would stay again if in the area.

Review 63:Expensive breakfast, although the choice is very good.

Review 64:Good location, nice tidy rooms and all a good size, room service was very good and reasonable price for the food we ordered and lots of it.

Review 65:Clean room nice staff hot water good room room service the staff were very helpful good price i read the reviews on this hotel and i were expecting the worse but no everything was fine .

Review 66:Rooms could do with an update and air conditioning.

Review 67:Wifi was excellent. Staff very good. Breakfast is buffet style is very good. I would stay here again.

Review 68:The only thing that let the place down was the cooked breakfast. It wasn't fresh, had been under a warmer for too long

Review 69:The location was perfect for a surprise visit to my son

Review 70:TV in the room did not work. Hotel appears to be very tired and in need of modernisation. Bar Shut at 9.45pm - poor show.

Review 71:thank God I stayed for only 1 night.

Review 72:Toast not done enough but please this is my opinion would have preferred it cooked a while longer

Review 73:Friendliness of staff Breakfast which was varied and cooked to order

Review 74:Mattress on bed needs replacing, difficult to allow sufficient fresh air into room due to fixed window stays, especially as it was very hot during our stay.Over efficient air-con in reception/bar but none in the rooms?

Review 75:Convenient to Yorkshire Sculture Park which was the main reason for our visit. Good bar food. Reasonable prices. Plenty of parking.

Review 76:The fact there was three brides staying, with two weddings happening on same day made huge difference to the wedding. Families crossing over. Only one bar for two weddings. The food at wedding reception wasn't good. Very small piece of chicken, 3 roast potatoes and 3 carrots. That was main meal. Not filling at all. The reception wasn't ready and we were left in bar for 3 hours.

Review 77:We were at a wedding, that was why we were staying. Free Cark park. Free wifi. Great room. Very clean. Lovely breakfast.

Review 78:We had to wait an eternity for a cappucioo which we ordered from the bar - when I went to enquire it seemed the barman had forgotten. He then fiddled with the machine for ages and the resulting drink was very poor, just warm, weak coffee, no head on it to speak of. Then there was some delay at putting it through the till - so after a while he came over for our signature - we said how poor the coffee was but he wasn't particularly interested and didn't offer to put anything right.

Review 79:Reception staff frindly enough. The room was a good size as was the bathroom. Bed very comfy although low down, like a futon. Breakfast was well prepared and tasty.

Review 80:Not sure how much we have paid as the Computorvwas not working and I have tried to find out by phoning the Hotel and yourselves but with you I was cut off twice while someone was trying to find out

Review 81:Rooms could do with updating on decor

Review 82:Surroundings were beautiful, staff very attentive, even though there were weddings taking place we were looked after quite well

Review 83:No phone/wifi reception in room

Review 84:Good location for Waterton Golf Club. Clean and spacious. Basic and abit dated but what expected for the price we paid. Nice breakfast included.

Review 85:Had a twin room and did not sleep well, as the duvet's were only a tiny bit wider than the mattress so was hardly covered once underneath. Spent most of the night pulling the duvet back over.

Review 86:Quiet situation and room could be made dark for sleeping. Plenty of parking, nice rooms and very clean, pleasant staff. Very comfortable beds apart from the too narrow duvet.

Review 87:The room was filthy. There were mouldy sweets in the draws and dust everywhere. The bedding had a large tea stain on it (highly noticeable so cleaner should have seen it) and the room we were put in was tiny! The window barely opened and the corridor had been painted so couldn't get rid of the paint smell! When we arrived there was no toilet paper so we had to ask for some at 1am! Finding the staff at that time was difficult! Luckily I won't be needing to stay here again, but for the money I paid I expected a bit more. The hotel is in desperate need of updating. Still got old fashioned carpets and curtains etc.

Review 88:The car parking was good as there were a lot of spaces. The area was lovely as there is a lake you can walk round. Breakfast was ok, nothing special.

Review 89:Perhaps some areas i.e. bathroom starting to look a little tired. But adequate.

Review 90:Location Breakfast Pleasant comfortable room Friendly Convenient Discounted price

Review 91:Ordered room service, which they forgot to put through to the kitchen, therefore waited a total of 1hr 40 for food, and when it arrived the chips were undercooked. The room was red hot, no air-con available and fans are a little noisy. Sorted late check-out upon arrival but still received a call to ask if we were aware of the time, the late check-out hadn't been noted.

Review 92:The location is good, breakfast was OK and the rooms were clean.

Review 93:Noise, constant door slamming as guests went to bed gradually. Music was loud in rooms from downstairs until 130am. That said there was a wedding on.

Review 94:Location, rooms and price - great value at £40 a Dbl.

Review 95:Small and quiet hotel especially quiet on a Sunday evening, nice place to go for walks or visit Wakefield, handy for some nice pubs and restaurants. Friendly staff and freshly cooked breakfast, free wifi and parking.

Review 96:Room was very warm a fan was provided but not much use needs updating with air con !

Review 97:Well positioned for Newmiller Damn and the pubs within walking distance Nice rooms didnt dine there so cannot comment menu looked nice though and reasonably priced quiet room high floor.

Review 98:Broken coffee machine in bar area.

Review 99:Friendly and efficient staff. Good choice of bar food as well as restaurant. Bath as well as a shower. Free and replenshised toiletries. Good quality bedding and towels. Good hospitality tray including water and chocolate.

Review 100:The decor is very outdated and tired. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and rickety - it creaked every time I moved.

Review 101:The staff were very nice and helpful. The room was fairly cheap, but you got what you paid for.

Review 102:Tissues ran out and not replaced Asked for extra coffee and milk and tray with ready made coffe brought. Lovely but we wanted it for next morning! Not really a didn't like but mis-communication. Room a liitle dark during the day.

Review 103:The staff were welcoming and looked after us

Review 104:The bed had a leg missing and a few slats. I'd had a few having been to Headingly for the cricket so it didn't spoil the day!

Review 105:Quick check out, efficient staff

Review 106:Uncomfortable bed Tv noise from next room .... TVs mounted on wall???? Shower was terrible more of a trickle ... No water pressure Very small bathroom for a suite

Review 107:Location is fantastic

Review 108:Hotel is fine but to say you are on a main road we found the bus service to Wakefield and back in the evening is disappointing they have finished running at 6pm.

Review 109:Here you are on the fringe of Wakefield, out in the countryside with some nice walks around the lake or Dam as it's called in Yorkshire. The old village of Newmillerdam is a 400 metre walk away nestled in a hilly ravine, stone built houses which look quite pretty extend back from the main Barnsley to Wakefield road. A road that gives easy access to both places by car and there is an hourly bus service through the day. There is the Fox and Goose pub and the Dam Inn a short walk so there are alternatives to eating in the Hotel. We found the staff at the hotel very nice and welcoming there is a relaxed atmosphere in the main lounge bar. Nice in the evening as well must be good if you get some locals in which we did. Just a note the weekend we chose we did not have to share the venue with newly weds and their entourage as it seems to be a popular choice for celebrations so do not know what difference that may have had. Plenty of parking available including a security gated area around to the rear if you feel it is necessary. Very nice Hotel and well managed. It's a yes from me/us.

Review 110:Nothing

Review 111:Hotel staff very helpful and friendly as travelling with elderly family who needed extra help. Tour De Yorkshire passed right outside hotel. Breakfast very nice and plentiful. Newmillerdam is a beautiful location for walks. bars and restaurants a few minutes walk away.

Review 112:On the Saturday a wedding was held at the hotel and in full swing on our afternoon return. From here on the stay went downhill. The Car park was full and dangerous because of children playing, the bar was inaccessible as it was taken over by the wedding guests, the restaurant was taken over by the same group and the hotel guests were directed to the breakfast room - this was adjoining the function room with all the noise from the disco to spoil a meal; this forced us to go out on a cold and windy night for a meal. Breakfast on Sunday was a buffet and not the expected freshly cooked breakfast we were expecting. Over Saturday night the wedding guests and there children kept up noise until the early hours helped by the staff clearing up with many trolleys of bottles rattling down the bedroom corridor. All in all not a pleasant finish to our weekend. This Best Western needs to decide ''is it a Hotel or a Function Venue';. once decided, if that decision is to be a hotel then I would return but not before.

Review 113:The immediate reception was good and helpful as was the first night (Friday) with a meal at the hotel which was fine.

Review 114:The breakfast bar was not topped up fully and there wasn't any fresh fruit available.

Review 115:The receptionist Tammy was very very helpful and happy to help.

Review 116:On arrival we were only booked for one day instead of two, we were then given a room with two single beds, then moved to a double bed, then after unpacking and making a coffee we were then moved again to a third room which was so disgusting it had a coating of dust on the wall above the bed which was dropping on us all night. 7:30 am cleaners banging at the doors even with do not disturb sign on door. Wish I had asked for the money back now......

Review 117:Nice staff, free wi- fi nice breakfast

Review 118:service was fantastic , special mention for adrian on reception who was brilliant , room was fantastic , great location just 5 minutes down road to walk round newmillardam ( lovely walk ) and dam in ( pub ) on corner , great carvery . 2 for £10 . well worth a visit .

Review 119:Only the bar open for food on the first night, though the food there was ok.Second night the function room next to the bar had a dinner dance so that was intrusive.

Review 120:Staff helpful. Good breakfast choice.

Review 121:Mattress on bed not comfortable, we kept rolling in to the middle. The cooked breakfast was good but the buffet table was a bit sparse - no muesli and very little choice of jams - and the toast was soggy

Review 122:The Hotel St Pierre is in a very nice location near Newmillerdam. The room was quiet and had a nice aspect at the back of the hotel

Review 123:Our initial room had an interlink door to the adjoining room. We could hear the couple next door chatting etc. when we complained we were given an upgraded room which was far superior to the first. The hotel needs a refurbish. The car park was like an ice rink when we left.

Review 124:The room was supposed to be a junior suite, but looked like the bed had been moved over and a small sofa put into the room. Had I have known this I would have just gone for a standard room which would have been a lot cheaper.

Review 125:The bar area was a nice area.

Review 126:Poor parking..lukewarm breakfast to which the lids of the warm trays were left on the floor...bed slats constantly breaking on a very low down bed....bathroom was small had a bend double to get my head under shower

Review 127:Great location

Review 128:Exorbitant breakfast costs Blood on duvet cover Lumpy mattress - could feel springs Difficulty parking 2 nights out of 3 Housekeeping didn't prepare room for 2 people (1 tumbler, 1 set of towels in bathroom - other set still in plastic laundry bag)

Review 129:Staff helpful and cheerful Good location for our needs,

Review 130:We thought the dining room was very basic not a comfortable environment - chairs and tables very basic, a room you don't want to relax in, just eat and get out.

Review 131:Ok for the price.

Review 132:Bathroom. Cramped and shower head set too low. Had to stoop to wash hair. Water stains on suspended ceiling panels. Restaurant: Breakfast excellent but evening meal bland and tasteless. WiFi very slow.

Review 133:Location Staff

Review 134:The cleanliness of the room was very poor, hairs all over on the bath, bits on the floors like not been hoovered, shower slow needs updating! With a revamp could be a lovely place however I wouldn't say anything has changed in 10 years or so decor wise!

Review 135:The location of the hotel in a lovely little village was lovely didn't see much of the village as we were at the venue for a party though

Review 136:Apart from the reception area the hotel is a bit dark and depressing. Breakfast was buffet style and did not include all of the items stated on the menu. It was also lukewarm. My parner had a pot of tea which was like dishwater. If we ever stay here again I will book room only and eat breakfast elsewhere.

Review 137:Location good. A few pubs within easy walking distance some serving food. Would have like to have walked around the lake but the great British weather put paid to that idea. Rooms comfortable enough but the hotel seems a bit dingy. Reception staff helpful
